Where to hide during earthquakes. How to find a good place to hide Where to hide outside

Not so long ago we played an exciting game "Find a cat". Did not hear? Recently joined our project? Be sure to try, for which just follow the link. But seriously, an ordinary domestic cat can be found almost everywhere, in the most exotic places. The cat so skillfully merges with the surrounding landscape that it is almost impossible to find it like this, easily, almost unrealistic. How often does your pet hide? We bring to your attention a small "guide" - where to look for it in the first place.

Kitchen appliances. A little mischievous kitten has recently settled in your house? And he already quite often "disappears", causing a serious commotion? Head straight to the kitchen! Check out the washing machine or dishwasher, microwave, dryer, etc. The fact is that kids are actively exploring a new home, often climbing where they should not have climbed at all. Why the kitchen, why household appliances? It's very simple: it's warm, it smells good, plus additional heat from all your miracle gadgets. Of course, make it a rule to carefully inspect them before starting work if there is a pet in the house!

Wood stoves. They are still preserved in many houses. A wood-burning stove is an indispensable character of old fairy tales, it is always warm there. Cats snuggle up to the heat! It would be nice to go up - it's understandable. But many villagers say that before you have time to clean out the ashes, a cat immediately rushes to take a nap in the damper. How many animals met their death in this way - only God knows. Always look into the oven before lighting!

armchairs and cushioned furniture. Of course, this scenario is more preferable. This is not a stove for you! Soft, comfortable and comfortable. Surely you are competing with your pet for the right to take a comfortable chair first. Having got a cat, give up the habit of sitting in a chair “with a run”, without thinking that it may be occupied!

Cardboard boxes in the pantry. Boxes and all sorts of "rattles" are favorite cat toys. In addition, cats are curious, and they are also driven by a craving for peace and solitude. So you should go into the pantry, closet, look into the attic! Find an ajar cardboard box - and yes! What you are looking for may be right there.

Suitcases and sports bags. Option cardboard boxes- a great place to retire and take a good nap. When heading to the gym, make sure you don't take your furry "fitness partner" there!

Drawers in furniture, chests of drawers. Of course, you should look there too. Cats like boxes for shoes, linen chests of drawers. In general, furry pets are very attracted to a place where there are a lot of clean, washed and ironed things!

Garage and car. Do you live in a private house connected to a garage? Then you have to look there. Cats are brought to the "temple of family men" by elementary curiosity. If the car interior, trunk or hood is open, the cat is quite able to get there. The reasons may be different, and you can guess about them. For a friend of mine, such a case once ended in tragedy: his cat fell asleep in the engine compartment and found her death there. So let's not joke.

Living with a cat is, my friends, a great art. They are such animals by nature, our cats: they will not give reasons to get bored or calmly relax. That's for sure.

“But why, in fact, hide them?” - you ask. Indeed, at first glance, it would seem that only a paranoid person would do such a thing. But no. This question is quite relevant in real life.

As we know, money must be in a safe place, and a commercial bank is ideal. There they are not only supervised, but also bring profit to their owner.

However, due to certain reasons, some citizens refuse to place their hard-earned funds in any institution. It is enough just to see on TV how the liquidation of one bank is going on, as the trust in all the others immediately disappears.

Not everyone can afford to put bars on the windows, through which current will periodically pass, and install an armored door. And not everyone will be able to dare to install video cameras around the perimeter of their home, purchase the “RGR” button located in the pocket of a grandmother who lives next door, and also put a banner in the room where money is stored.

In view of this, it is necessary to have one secluded place, where to hide money at home so that if your home is broken into, thieves will not find them. And even more so, you need to know where to store your funds is not worth it.

See also Where to keep money at home according to Feng Shui - one of the branches of the financial component in Asian philosophy. You can learn about storing cash in the house, as well as about ways to save and increase money, according to ancient Chinese methods, in our article.

This will be a precautionary measure against thieves who will come to your house when you are not at home, or the usual stash of 15% of your wife’s salary, but these storage places will be known only to you alone (unless, of course, bear thieves and your wife are not reading now this article).

1. Safe

A classic way to protect your valuables at the time of hacking. Only this vault must be of enormous size so that it cannot be carried away. It must also have a complex lock that does not emit clicks when a certain combination of numbers is dialed.

The safe should consist of high-strength metal, which excludes the possibility of cutting, sawing, shooting and even blowing it up. Only those who have their own house and guards placed around the perimeter (and a safe in case they want to rob) can afford such a model.

2. Prominent thing

“Who would think of keeping money in a conspicuous place?” - just such an idea will slip through an amateur bear cub when he sees a beautiful box or box standing in the middle of the room.

The psychology of a thief excludes the possibility of a quick search for the values of his victim. He is convinced that she is safely hiding her savings, which can only be reached by carefully probing hidden places.

3. Lining in clothes

A hiding place in a wardrobe element is the best place to hide money in your home. . Get yourself one thing (preferably a jacket or jacket) and make a special pocket in the inside of your back. This thing will hang in your wardrobe to divert eyes. Not one thief will guess that it is also a hiding place.

4. Deception

Another psychological trick that will throw the thief off the right track. Make a standard cache (we will consider its types below) and put a small amount of money there. Keep the fixed capital in the place that were cited as an example above.

Having found the hiding place, the thief will think that his "jackpot" is limited to this, because it is unlikely that it will occur to him that this is a kind of "a distraction" from the real place of savings.

5. Fake - 2

Where to hide the money so that no one finds it? No bugbear thief knows the exact number of outlets you should have in your home. Make a recess in the wall in which you can store a bundle of money, and close the hole with an outlet cover.

In the same way, hiding places can be made in the form of other interior elements. Or just punch a hole in the wall, hide the money in it, and cover it with wallpaper.

6. Fireplace

Often in city apartments you can find a homemade fireplace (naturally, not involving a fire). Its component can be both bricks and stones. In one of them, it is quite possible to punch a hole into which you can then put money. Original?

places, where to hide money not worth it

If everything is clear with excellent options for hiding places, then the following should be listed those places where you should not store funds

1. Ventilation

Many people think that unscrewing a couple of bolts and removing the ventilation grille in order to hide their savings behind it is brilliant. To tell you a secret, this method of stash lost its originality back in pre-revolutionary times.

2. Banks of cereals

“What thief will dig into buckwheat / flour / millet?” - the inhabitant thinks, hiding a wad of money in an iron jar and filling it with cereals. “How naive,” the thief thinks, pulling out this wad of money when the layman is not at home.

3. Painting

Whether it's the back of a painting, or a safe built into the wall behind it, this stash is a great way for a thief to cash in.

4. Cabinets

We have already announced the only place within the wardrobe (or chest of drawers) where you can store money. All other caches are doomed to an early exposure. A favorite place for a thief will be not only the pockets of things, but also the space under them.

And there is no doubt about the bottom in the linen closet. Even if there are things emitting a disgusting smell that have not been removed for six months, the bear cub will definitely look under them.

5. Bookcase

There is not a single place in this component of the home interior in which you can store money. There were cases when a person, hoping to confuse a thief, hid banknotes in each book, one at a time. The bugbear, of course, got tired, but collected them in one big pack.

Every book, be it Anderson's collected works or the Bible, will be leafed through by a thief. And not to improve their intellectual level.

6. Refrigerator

Do you think this is a safe place to store your savings? Then put a bottle of champagne nearby for the thief. Since such an easy prey will be his occasion for a real holiday.

You've just gone through the best and worst stash options. Happiness is not money, but losing it is grief. Don't put your property at risk.

In everyone's life, from time to time there is a need to lie low for a while, to hide from different people, ranging from amateurs who obsessively want to find out the relationship, and ending with professionals who have very serious capabilities and intentions. In this article, we will look at how to temporarily hide from those who know how to search well, have access to an administrative resource and do not disdain the most dirty tricks. First, we will discuss the mandatory measures that should be taken in any case, and then we will move on to the techniques and methods used depending on the situation.

Preliminary clarifications

When developing a plan, be sure to answer the following questions:

1. How long are you going to hide?

2. Are you planning to live on savings or will you have to work?

3. How ready are you to change your lifestyle?

When presenting the material, we will assume that it will be necessary to hide from several weeks to several months. If we are talking about years, then this is a little different. In this case, you will have to reincarnate into a new personality and actually start a new life. To lay low and still make money is an extremely difficult task, so for the purposes of this material, we assume that there are savings to live on. As for changing the way of life, to some extent it will need to be changed. However, if you plan to return to your old life, global changes are unlikely to be required.

Lifestyle

If someone thinks that in case of danger he will be able to quickly grab everything he needs and hide without a trace, then he will be severely disappointed. You can only sneak away from amateurs in this way, and even then not for long, since most likely you will have to periodically appear in well-known places and get in touch to resolve current issues and make life easier. At least 90% of success falls precisely on the preparatory stage and maintaining an appropriate lifestyle. So, what kind of lifestyle should one lead in order to allow oneself the luxury of hiding at any moment from anyone?

1. Dependencies. If any living beings depend on you, ranging from cats and dogs to small children, then you will not be able to hide. This either should not be, or at any moment you should be able to delegate all this for an indefinite period to people who then can not be controlled. On the other hand, you should pay attention to your own dependencies. It is much more difficult for an insulin-dependent patient or a drug addict to hide, and even such a trifle as a habit of smoking, under certain circumstances, can significantly complicate life.

2. Deeds. If you are an entrepreneur, or occupy a serious position, then your business most likely will not survive your absence for a month or more. It either shouldn't be there, or you should be prepared to lose it. In some cases, the case will undergo conservation or remote management, but it is not recommended to rely on this. Especially on the second option, which serves as one of the loopholes, using which you can be found.

3. Property. In order to lay low with peace of mind, you need to be sure that your apartment will not be burned, flooded, or plundered. Or to have an apartment that all this will not spoil much. People who assume the need to hide are advised to live in an apartment (or house), which, in principle, is not a pity to leave. In any case, no collections, no antiques and valuables, no costly repairs. And keep in mind: everything that meters are installed at the place of residence, attackers can wind up in such a way that it will be problematic to pay off later. This, by the way, can be used to exert psychological pressure. So, ideally, you don’t need to have your own home at all.

The same applies to other property. It is highly discouraged to have a registered weapon. If you disappear with him, it can turn out quite ugly. Everything that cannot be hidden in a small suitcase must be either rented or disposable. Part of the money can be kept in the bank, but in such a way that it is possible to transfer them to the card remotely, and then cash out at any ATM. But it is better to keep fixed assets in cash and, as it is not banal, in hiding places. Consider bitcoin as well.

4. Health. Many things we begin to notice only when we lose them. This includes, for example, the ability to call an ambulance or visit a doctor. Despite the fact that now you can get medical care in a paid clinic without too much publicity, it is quite problematic to do this while hiding. So before you seriously get ready to lay low, you will have to thoroughly take care of your health and acquire self-healing skills. You should not train to sew up your wounds like Rambo, but you need to be able to complete the first-aid kit and confidently use its contents. Read more about this.

Bottom line: one who wants to be able to instantly hide must lead a very specific lifestyle, denying himself some important details for most. And it is precisely in this way of life that one can calculate a potential "runner". When the stakes are high, they surround themselves with supposedly native creatures to disguise themselves, which then ruthlessly rush to the mercy of fate. Because the first thing serious people will do to find you is put their fingers in the door of the people closest to you. Inserted in a figurative sense of the word. Or straight.

Preparatory stage

The implementation of the preparatory stage is divided into two parts, which must be implemented simultaneously. The first part is about what you are moving away from. Actually, this is the adoption of the lifestyle that was mentioned above. Get rid of everything that you can't take with you. And with you, by and large, it will turn out to take only documents, money and a laptop. Take special care to protect people who are really close to you from troubles. You will not have to communicate with them on the phone registered to you, they should not be friends on the pages social networks and in your skype contacts. And you will have to see them with truly espionage precautions. In some cases, such contacts are disguised as workers. If possible, do so.

The second part is about where you are going. This is, in fact, the organization of the living space in which you will have to exist for the entire period of lying on the bottom. You can take the difficult path of acquiring an apartment through nominees or even try to break through abroad. Some craftsmen methodically "work out" a new life for themselves in a new place, appearing there regularly, presenting themselves with a different name and acquiring connections. This gives some advantages, especially if you have to not only lie at the bottom, but also work. But we do not recommend. The more complex the system, the more vulnerable it is, not to mention the cost. Every person who is privy to your plans for X-day is a potential source of information leakage.

For exceptionally healthy thrill-seekers, there is a diametrically opposite way to hide. Skillful use of it can give amazing results, allowing a person to literally dissolve in the air, and beat even hardened detectives. Especially for a rich person. Namely - to transform into a bum. It would never occur to anyone that one can voluntarily move from the boss's chair to the trash, especially since such a trick requires outstanding strong-willed and acting skills. However, there is nothing to think of doing this without preparation. If the stakes are high and you are considering this path as a work option, you should prepare in advance. You will have to periodically try on a masquerade, and become, if not your own, then at least familiar to local homeless people. This is useful not only as a workout, but also for safety purposes. An operative experienced in spy games can ask the local homeless if a new tramp has suddenly appeared. If you get caught during one of these workouts, then everything can be explained by a dispute or an extreme tour. And keep in mind - transforming into a homeless person requires knowledge of the psychology of the marginal strata of society and a virtuoso ability to work with hiding places. This technique is mainly used to implement the first part of the out-of-reach plan. You should not count on the possibility of a long existence in this state.

We usually recommend our cadets not to go to extremes, but to follow a simple but true path, which is the golden mean. To do this, you need to rent the cheapest possible apartment in a residential area in the nearest million-plus city, saying that you came to work. If the landlord is not a veteran of the special services, and you do not make a mysterious face and answer simple questions, then at most, your passport data will be rewritten on a piece of paper that will be lost in three days. And you, forgotten by everyone, will be able to live in a rented wreck until the bulldozers come to demolish it. Of course, when moving and subsequently living in a rented apartment, you will have to strictly follow certain rules, which will be discussed below. And most importantly - do not debut in "combat" conditions. Do not be lazy, and practice in a relaxed environment. Spend one of your holidays not in Spain or Turkey, but on an exciting tour of Moscow or St. Petersburg slums. You will get invaluable experience and a lot of impressions!

disappearance

The moment when you are no longer reachable is short, but extremely important. To avoid mistakes, you must adhere to the following rules.

1. Surprise. You have to leave suddenly. No one should know about your plans, except for those who are directly involved in them. But it is better that they do not know what exactly they are helping you with. Or better yet, they don't exist at all. And in any case, no one can be warned in advance. Create the appearance of planned vigorous activity - fill out a diary, make appointments, buy tickets to the theater ... By no means should it be visible that you are wrapping up business.

2. Ordinary. Your behavior should be so ordinary that even the most sensitive do not suspect the unusualness of the moment. The most common mistakes are distracted thoughtfulness, stiffness, impatient haste, and looking around. Now in order. A person who is going to and is afraid to forget something is immersed in himself a little more than usual, he can react slowly and out of place. Stiffness is most visible in gait. If someone is trying to portray a walking step, but at the same time holding on as if he swallowed a crowbar, be sure that something is wrong with him. Haste and objects falling out of the hands speak for themselves. Looking back is more interesting. Anxious, a person unconsciously begins to look around more often. Analyzing the video surveillance recording, the psychologist will definitely calculate how many times you looked back and draw conclusions. Of course, friends and colleagues will not count, but your sense of anxiety may be transmitted to them, and they will unconsciously suspect something is amiss.

3. Speed. Need to get out quickly. The less time the procedure takes, and the more distance you can move in a unit of time, the better. The point is that all structures are inert. And the larger and more powerful the structure, the more clumsy it is. Ideally, you should start looking for no earlier than you reach the end point of your journey. Then there are good chances even against very serious opponents. You also need to take care not to alert anyone ahead of time. Telling your wife you'll be there in five minutes, or asking to go to the toilet in a meeting, after which no one else will see you - a good idea for a mystical thriller, but not for real life.

4. Suitable conditions. Any saboteur knows - good weather is bad weather. In rain and storms, helicopters with search groups do not fly, radars and communications in general work worse, weather-dependent people have a headache, twist their joints and their attention worsens ... And since people who personally have nothing against you will most likely look for you, once again that something to check in a downpour or severe frost, they are too lazy. So if you have a choice, then choose suitable conditions to hide. And it doesn't have to be the weather. For urban conditions, a holiday is best suited. If you go missing on December 31st, it will be easier for you to blend in with the idle crowd, and there will be fewer and more relaxed performers looking for you. And it is possible that you will be missed altogether only after the New Year holidays.

Technique

The central link of the entire operation is the preparation and placement of an alarm kit, or, as it is also called, an alarm case. Read more about how to properly equip it here. And now we'll talk about how to use it.

Let's start with the fact that there can be several alarm suitcases with the same contents. The most important thing - documents, money and a flash drive - you can always carry with you, and the rest is laid out in different places in the same configuration. Thus, it will be possible to successfully disappear from work, from home, and from any other suitable place. You need to place the alarm kit where you can easily reach it, while others will not have such an opportunity. It's easy enough to do at home, harder at work. Even if you are the boss, or have your own room at the place of work, it is difficult to secure the suitcase from outside access. Therefore, in such places it is necessary to additionally install an alarm, the operation of which will inform you of the movement or violation of the integrity of the kit. If you have sufficient knowledge of the technique of working with caches, alarm kits can be placed in several caches along the likely routes. Caches, of course, should not be made in a forest or an open field, but on the contrary - close to crowded places. If it is necessary to leave precisely in deserted places, it will be useful to build hiding places with food and other useful little things along the entire route.

If you are not a super spy, who is hunted by all the special services of the world, then the maximum you can count on is tracking movements on a cell phone, a beacon in clothes and / or a car, wiretapping in some places, and sluggish conduct by one outdoor brigade. But this is generally a ceiling, which, by the way, will cost the customer a round sum. In practice, in the vast majority of cases, the case is limited to a beacon, and dubious professionalism "guardianship" on the part of someone from your environment who managed to agent. The latter will rummage through your things from time to time, read the diary, and strive to copy information from your laptop. What, of course, should be used to feed interested parties with delicious disinformation.

The very moment when you pass from your ordinary state to the invisible state is very simple. It is necessary to take off absolutely all clothes, shoes, and in general everything that is somehow attached or put on the body, change clothes and change shoes into the contents of the alarm kit. Without turning off completely, but turning off the sound, leave your phone, donated jewelry and everything else where an electronic surprise can nest. From the kit, without including, and without even inserting the battery, get completely new phone with an anonymous or purchased in the name of the drop card. Further, with the help of funds taken from the same set, you need to change your appearance and take public transport. This option is best for leaving home or work, where you can equip a hiding place. After that, according to the classics of the genre, they go out through the attic from another entrance or from the back door at work. This method has the advantage - the outdoor will record your stay at home, and with electronic devices normal signals will work properly. But after finding the left things where they should not be, it will become clear that you carried out a well-planned action. Ideally, this option works in places where you can store a change of clothes and shoes without arousing suspicion.

When leaving in the countryside, things and gadgets can be weighed down and thrown into a deep body of water. Only it is necessary to make it heavier with a margin - a pile of things is not so easy to drown quickly. If you have beacons installed on you, or your phone is constantly monitored for a signal, this action will cause great excitement among interested citizens. Therefore, it is necessary to pack things at the very last moment, and immediately move very quickly. In special cases, containers that are impermeable to radio waves are used, and even things are fried in the microwave, but this, in general, is an unnecessary exotic.

Hiding right

Once you've entered the "invisible" state, care must be taken to keep it that way. After removing the alarm kit from the cache and getting rid of old things, you need not to be recognized, and especially not recorded on cameras. To do this, it is quite enough to slightly change the appearance and gait, as well as dress in things that are atypical for you. However, it is important not to overdo it - black half-face glasses, hoods and pulled-down visors attract the attention of the police. Try to use public transport, dodging cameras if they are installed there. For long-distance travel, use a taxi. Attract private traders with caution, they may turn out to be bandits. It is better to start using a taxi away from the place from which you started the journey, as taxi drivers can be interviewed.

2. Don't show up in places where you might be recognized. Avoid visiting places equipped with video surveillance.

3. Do not use bank cards and do not register anything. It is also strictly forbidden to go online in such a way that you can be identified. In most cases, it is enough not to go to any services with your old login.

A bit of spy psychology

If you have never lived illegally, it will be very difficult psychologically for you at first on the run. Most likely, there will be a feeling of loneliness, abandonment by everyone, as well as a feeling that the surrounding space is teeming with predators ready to swallow you. Of course, this is an illusion. The world, by and large, is indifferent to you, with the exception of those units who dream of settling scores with you. And of course it hasn't changed since you went to the bottom. Having dissolved in it, you will eventually cease to be interesting even to those who are very angry with you - time erases and dulls everything.

However, internal experiences should not spoil life objectively and lead to disclosure. You should not be led by your desire to hide in a shell in all manifestations of life, since a person hiding something, on the contrary, attracts additional attention to himself. Don't look around, don't slouch, don't keep your hands in your pockets, don't hide your face behind black glasses, a turned up collar, and a hat pulled down over your eyes. Speak in a normal tone and at a normal volume for your surroundings. Never change the pace or trajectory of your movement, and do not look away when you see a patrol. The gaze should move at normal speed from one object on the street to another, and, as it were, pass people through.

And the last. When developing an operation, consider not only how to hide, but also how to appear again. To do this, you will need tools to monitor the situation at the place of your absence. It is very important to appear at the right moment when circumstances begin to play on your side. It is not advisable to miss this moment, since the situation may subsequently change.

Received an email today English language with very useful information about earthquakes, I thought about translating, then I found a rather tolerable translation-compilation of the article. The main idea is that the author, through a practical analysis of the destroyed structures, revealed that the most safe places are spaces near hard-to-destruct objects, such as beds, cars, large piles of papers in offices. So:
What to do during an earthquake
My name is Doug Cope. I am the Rescue Chief and Disaster Manager of the American Rescue Team International (ARTI). I have penetrated 875 earthquake destroyed buildings, worked in rescue teams in 60 countries, organized and am a member of such teams in many countries.

For 2 years I was a UN expert on the study of the consequences of disasters and since 1985, not a single major disaster has been left without my attention. The first building I managed to break into was a school in Mexico City during the 1985 earthquake. All children were under their desks. They were all flattened to the thickness of their own bones. They could have been saved if they had been lying next to the desks in the aisles. Unthinkable, from my point of view, but children were ordered to hide under tables and desks during an earthquake. I was surprised, but in Mexican schools, there is still such an instruction "Duck and Cover", bend over, cover your head with your hands and hide under the table.

It's very easy to understand. When a building collapses, the heavy ceiling falls onto an object or furniture, destroying it, creating a cavity or free space nearby. I call it the "triangle of life". The larger and stronger the object, the larger the cavity where a person can avoid injury and escape. This can be seen on TV when we see the work of rescue teams.

10 rules for surviving an earthquake:
1) Everyone who ducks and takes cover in a collapsing building or car will be destroyed and die.
2) Cats, dogs and babies often adopt a natural fetal position. This is what to do in an earthquake. This is instinct. This position helps to fit in a small cavity. Move closer to a large, bulky object that, when crushed, flattened, will still leave some room for survival.
3) Wooden buildings are the safest during earthquakes. The tree works well for bending and torsion under the action of a seismic wave. If wooden building yet it collapses, it forms large cavities of salvation and does not cause much injury. Brick buildings collapse into individual bricks. Bricks cause significant injury, but still less than concrete. Concrete panel buildings are the most dangerous during earthquakes.
4) If an earthquake catches you in bed at night, just roll out of bed. The safest place will be around the bed. In hotels, many lives could be saved if instructions were posted on the door of each room instructing visitors to lie on the floor near the bottom of the beds during an earthquake.
5) If an earthquake happens and you can't run out either through the door or through the window, lie down on the floor in the pose of a womb baby next to a bed or a large chair
6) Almost everyone who stood in doorway in a falling building, died. How? If you stand under the door lintel, when the door jamb collapses, you will be destroyed along with it
7) Never stand on steps during an earthquake. The steps have a separate torsion moment, different from the building frame. The steps and other fragments of the building, constantly colliding, simply grind the person inside this massacre. Even if the building doesn't collapse, don't stay on the steps. Even if the steps are intact, they can be destroyed by the influx of many people and must first be checked.
8) If possible, it is better to be near the outer walls inside or outside the building. Better outside than inside. The farther from the outer wall you are inside the building, the less likely you are to jump out.
9) People inside vehicles die if upper level roads collapse on them. Nearly all of the victims of the San Francisco earthquake were inside vehicles. If they had sat or lay next to the vehicles they would have been saved. Each destroyed vehicle has a safety cavity 3 feet high next to it, except when a pillar has fallen directly on the vehicle.
10) In my experience of breaking into a newspaper office, piles of paper form the largest security cavities. In 1996 we made a film that proves that this methodology of survival is correct. The Turkish Federal Government, the University of Istanbul and ARTI have joined forces to conduct a scientific test. We destroyed the school Dom with 20 mannequins inside. 10 dummies were bent over with their hands on their heads and 10 dummies were placed in the "triangles of life". After the simulation of the earthquake, we entered the destroyed building, drew up documents and filmed. This film was shown on TV in Turkey and other European countries, USA, Canada and Latin America.

The main conclusion of this study is that there is no chance of survival in strong earthquake for those who hide under the table.

Original:

Where to Go During an Earthquake

School in Mexico City during the 1985 earthquake. Every child was under his desk. Every child was crushed to the thickness of their bones. They could have survived by lying down next to their desks in the aisles. It was obscene - unnecessary.

Simply stated, when buildings collapse, the weight of the ceilings falling upon the objects or furniture inside crushes these objects, leaving a space or void next to them - NOT under them. This space is what I call the "triangle of life". The larger the object, the stronger, the less it will compact. The less the object compacts, the larger the void, the greater the probability that the person who is using this void for safety will not be injured. The next time you watch collapsed buildings, on television, count the "triangles" you see formed. They are everywhere. It is the most common shape, you will see, in a collapsed building.

TIPS FOR EARTHQUAKE SAFETY

1) Most everyone who simply "ducks and covers" when building collapse are crushed to death. People who get under objects, like desks or cars, are crushed.

2) Cats, dogs and babies often naturally curl up in the fetal position. You should too in an earthquake. It is a natural safety/survival instinct. You can survive in a smaller void. Get next to an object, next to a sofa, next to a bed, next to a large bulky object that will compress slightly but leave a void next to it.

3) Wooden buildings are the safest type of construction to be in during an earthquake. Wood is flexible and moves with the force of the earthquake. If the wooden building does collapse, large survival voids are created. Also, the wooden building has less concentrated, crushing weight. Brick buildings will break into individual bricks. Bricks will cause many injuries but less squashed bodies than concrete slabs.

4) If you are in bed during the night and an earthquake occurs, simply roll off the bed. A safe void will exist around the bed. Hotels can achieve a much greater survival rate in earthquakes, simply by posting a sign on the back of the door of every room telling occupants to lie down on the floor, next to the bottom of the bed during an earthquake.

5) If an earthquake happens and you cannot easily escape by getting out the door or window, then lie down and curl up in the fetal position next to a sofa, or large chair.

6) Most everyone who gets under a doorway when buildings collapse is killed. how? If you stand under a doorway and the doorjamb falls forward or backward you will be crushed by the ceiling above. If the door jam falls sideways you will be cut in half by the doorway. In either case, you will be killed!

7) Never go to the stairs. The stairs have a different "moment of frequency" (they swing separately from the main part of the building). The stairs and remainder of the building continuously bump into each other until structural failure of the stairs takes place. The people who get on the stairs before they fail are chopped up by the stair treads - horribly mutilated. Even if the building doesn't collapse, stay away from the stairs. The stairs are a likely part of the building to be damaged. Even if the stairs are not collapsed by the earthquake, they may collapse later when overloaded by fleeing people. They should always be checked for safety, even when the rest of the building is not damaged.

8) Get near the outer walls of buildings or outside of them if possible - It is much better to be near the outside of the building rather than the interior. The farther inside you are from the outside perimeter of the building the greater the probability that your escape route will be blocked.

9) People inside of their vehicles are crushed when the road above falls in an earthquake and crushes their vehicles; which is exactly what happened with the slabs between the decks of the Nimitz Freeway. The victims of the San Francisco earthquake all stayed inside of their vehicles. They were all killed. They could have easily survived by getting out and sitting or lying next to their vehicles. Everyone killed would have survived if they had been able to get out of their cars and sit or lie next to them. All the crushed cars had voids 3 feet high next to them, except for the cars that had columns fall directly across them.

10) I discovered, while crawling inside of collapsed newspaper offices and other offices with a lot of paper, that paper does not compact. Large voids are found surrounding stacks of paper.

In 1996 a film was made, which proved survival methodology to be correct. The Turkish Federal Government, City of Istanbul, University of Istanbul Case Productions and ARTI cooperated to film this practical, scientific test. We collapsed a school and a home with 20 mannequins inside. Ten mannequins did "duck and cover," and ten mannequins I used in my "triangle of life" survival method. After the simulated earthquake collapse we crawled through the rubble and entered the building to film and document the results. The film, relevant to building collapse, showed there would have been zero percent survival for those doing duck and cover.

The most banal place where money is stored are various drawers and bedside tables that are “at hand”. There, the first thing that thieves look for is their prey.

All kinds of figurines, caskets, vases are also not suitable for the role of reliable hiding places.

Oddly enough, some people still hide valuables under a mattress or in furniture, on mezzanines or in ottomans, chairs, sewn into pillows.

It should be understood that there are cases when not only money and valuables are taken out, but even clothes, shoes and small household appliances. Therefore, it is unreasonable to hide money in these things. Some people think that it will be difficult for a thief to search among the mountains of clothes and linen in the closet. But it will only take him a couple of minutes to shake everything out of the cabinets and probe in search of prey.

“Original” places that thieves know about

It seems that a thief will not look in ancillary areas, like a bathroom or kitchen, but this is not at all the case. They are well aware of such places as the toilet bowl, ventilation windows, they will not disdain to look in the trash can or in the dirty laundry basket.

Some store valuables in cereals or in the refrigerator. This is also not reliable.

It seems that the surest thing is to hide valuables at the stage of repair. However, this is misleading. If the thief is sure that he has a lot of time before the owner returns, then he will check under the baseboard, and knock on the walls, and tear off the wallpaper.

Reliable protection

As for safes, this is a controversial place. If the robber is a professional, he will find a way to open it. Also, some of them can simply be taken out because of their small weight and size. A safe can be a reliable protection if it is built into hard to reach place, which will exclude the removal and will require time and effort to open it.

Based on the above examples, we can conclude that popular places are the most unsafe. That's where thieves will look first.

There are two types of thieves: random robbers who could not get past easy money, and professional burglars who act on a tip and carefully study the object before the robbery. Pros will quickly find a cache in any apartment.

You can think about where to store valuables outside the home, or provide housing with maximum security. For example, bank safes are very popular now. But the minus of safes is that this is also not a 100% guarantee of reliability, since the bank does not know what is in the cell and cannot be responsible for its contents.

It is logical to place money on a bank deposit: in addition to reliability, it is also interest.

How to limit time

The thief's main weapon is time. Given enough time, the thief will find any cache. Therefore, when creating hiding places, take care to limit the time that the thief will spend in your home.

Can install home system alarms, connect to the remote control of a security company - this will not bring high maintenance costs, but you can count on a reaction when entering a home.

Install door opening sensors that will turn on a loud siren: turning it off quickly is difficult, for beginners it creates panic, for professionals it is a signal to hurry up.

The most basic protection is high-quality locks on front door. This is something you can't skimp on. They will be able to detain the thief if they are difficult to open. Unfortunately, most of the locks and masks you find in hardware stores are very easy to pick. There is only one advice here - take a closer look at the products of famous brands, although their locks are expensive, they usually give a guarantee, each lock has a certificate.

Finally, there is another method of protection: insurance.

10 money stash ideas

A few ideas where you can hide money in the apartment.

  1. Toy. You can sew or invest your savings in it. Suitable for families with children. A thief won't pick at all the cars in a child's room. The main thing is to explain to the child that this is daddy's toy and you can’t play with it!
  2. For the closet. If it is all over the wall and there is an opportunity to climb on it, you can put money in a bag, lower it behind the cabinet in the center and fasten the rope along the length of your outstretched arm so that you can get it.
  3. Pot with plants. We pack banknotes in waterproof cellophane, lay them out around the circumference. We take care of the flowers as usual.
  4. Writing supplies. You can twist the money into a tube and arrange it on empty markers or felt-tip pens. Remove to desk.
  5. Aquarium. We also use waterproof material and place the treasure on a sunken ship or in an underwater castle.
  6. Album with pockets for photos. We lay out the banknotes under the photos. Even if the thief nervously shakes the books, nothing should fall out.
  7. Bottom/top wooden interior door we make a hole on a surface parallel to the floor / ceiling according to the size of a small bundle of banknotes. You can always slip wealth and seal it with tape.
  8. Threads. We twist the money and wrap it with woolen threads in the form of a round skein. We store with accessories for cutting and sewing.
  9. On the ceiling. We remove the chandelier, put the money through the hole at a possible distance and hang the chandelier back. Time-consuming and suitable for those who know how to handle electricity.
  10. You can also store banknotes in Christmas toys. And in winter, decorate the Christmas tree with these “rich” balls.

They robbed the apartment but did not find where the jewels were hidden

Reader's story.

We lived with my husband and did not grieve in our odnushka. But we decided to give up on the sea for a week. They saved up money for this, asked for a vacation. A neighbor's cat and flowers there too. Tickets are bought, the door is locked and we flew to distant lands.

Of course, we are not out of touch with reality. Enjoyed the rest, but sometimes did not forget to call a neighbor and find out how things were going. She assured that everything was fine, the cat was diligent, the flowers were growing, the apartment was in place.

But a week has passed, we come home and what do we see?! The apartment was turned upside down, some things were missing, and the door was not locked.

I have tears, my husband has rage, and my neighbor has sincere bewilderment. Looks like the thieves managed to break the door without anyone hearing or seeing them. Of course, they called the police, they took a statement about the theft.

But at least we had one consolation - the thieves could not find a cache of money and jewelry. We live in the city, so we knew that anything could happen.

They made a recess in the floor, in the screed, put an iron jewelry box there. A piece of plaster was placed on top and covered with parquet. A stranger will hardly find this cache.

So we have at least some savings left safe and sound.
