If you prefer a calm, peaceful atmosphere, choose a color for the accent wall that is close to the dominant color in the room. Look at the color wheel: close or, in other words, similar colors are colors located in the neighborhood.

For example: If the room is decorated in blue tones, a soft green accent wall will be a similar color. The atmosphere will be quite calm and restrained, but the green wall will still stand out and attract attention.

If you want something more energetic and impressive, choose an antagonist color, that is, a color located on the circle opposite the shade that predominates in the interior. For example: if the room is decorated in beige and lilac tones, the accent wall can be made light green.

In a neutral (white, black and white, gray, beige, beige-brown, etc.) room, the accent wall can be absolutely any color - for example, your favorite one.

Four options for arranging frescoes

Each of the options described below is good in its own way, but not all of them are suitable for DIY arrangement, although it all depends on your skills.

Option number 1. Timeless classics

From the school course we know that a classical fresco is a pictorial painting applied to wet plaster. This technology allows you to maintain the brightness of colors and resistance to external influences for decades.

According to official sources, the art of painting frescoes appeared in 1500 BC. According to researchers, the oldest fresco is located on the island of Santorini, although similar paintings have also been found in Egyptian pyramids. Therefore, the exact date of creation of the first such painting is unknown to man.

Such technology is not available to the common person; moreover, not every artist is able to paint such a panel according to all the rules, because special natural-based paints are used for this, plus you need to work very quickly until the plaster dries.

The price for arranging a real classical fresco is exorbitant and such work takes quite a lot of time, depending on the amount of work it can take from a couple of weeks to several months.

Option number 2. Painting on canvas

In part, this technology is reminiscent of painting, but before applying the image, such a canvas undergoes a long preparation, as a result of which a very thin layer of plaster appears on the canvas, and paint is then applied to this layer.

Such paintings are also considered original, but with the current development of technology they have already learned how to reproduce them, although even a copy costs quite a lot of money. Most often you can find artificially aged canvases. But this product is very “capricious”, it requires care and is not suitable for extreme kitchen conditions.

Option number 3. Self-adhesive

This type of painting can be safely called consumer goods. This fresco can be applied to the wall with your own hands in half a day, and for this you only need a glue brush and a roller. This technology is very similar to applying transfers, which many of us glued to the refrigerator or school desk as children.

You shouldn’t expect any sky-high, impeccable quality from such panels. In a kitchen, this transfer will last a maximum of 3–4 years, plus even the new picture shows traces of its artificial origin.

Option number 4. Frescoes on wallpaper

This option is best suited for self-development. The basis here is non-woven or fiberglass textured fabrics. Such wallpaper, of course, cannot be called cheap, but compared to natural painted frescoes, this is an excellent solution, and I will tell you how to do it correctly in the next chapter.

An affordable option for arranging a fresco in 6 steps

Non-woven or fiberglass wallpaper frescoes are perfect for an owner with average income and a constant lack of time. Before you start arranging the painting itself, you need to carefully prepare the base.

Despite the fact that fiberglass and non-woven fabric are considered quite strong and durable materials, making a fresco on an apron in work area I don’t recommend the kitchen, otherwise there are no more restrictions.

Wallpaper can be glued not only to walls, it also fits well on alternative surfaces such as:

• Drywall– please note that before gluing the drywall it needs to be puttied and sanded;
• Laminated or regular MDF– here it is enough to apply a layer of acrylic primer;
• Glass– in theory, glass only needs to be degreased, but in practice it is still advisable to cover it with acrylic primer;
• Plastic– the preparation of plastic is approximately the same as for laminated MDF;
• Tree– for gluing, the tree must be absolutely dry (humidity no more than 12%), plus it must be covered with soil 2 times;

We will analyze the classic version, that is, installing a fresco on a plastered wall. Usually, for wallpapering, just smooth cement plaster is enough, but in the case of a fresco there are nuances:

1. You need to cover smooth cement plaster with deep penetration acrylic primer;
2. A layer of putty 1.5 - 2 mm thick is applied to a dry wall;
3. After complete drying, the putty will need to be carefully sanded. For this, medium-grain sandpaper is used, but I prefer to work with a sanding mesh;
4. On last stage To prepare, you will need to brush off the dust and apply acrylic primer 2 times, both times applying the primer to a dry wall.

If the walls have already been prepared, for example, covered with wallpaper, then you just need to remove the old wallpaper and generously cover the wall with soil once.

Such paintings are sold in cardboard tubes. When the walls are completely ready you need:

• Open the tube lid;
• Remove the roll from the tube;
• Carefully remove the plastic film and roll out the roll on the floor;
• There should be no drafts in the room;
• During operation, the temperature should not be lower than +10ºС.

If the tubes have been exposed to frost, they must lie in a heated room for at least 12 hours before unpacking.
