Tooth loss is more common in old age. This is usually associated with various characteristic age-related changes in the body. However, dentists note that more and more people of young and mature age are also forced to look for an alternative to their teeth lost for various reasons. , as the most ideal type of artificial teeth, are not available to everyone, as they are significantly expensive. This is where the solution to the problem of toothlessness in the form of wearing comes to the rescue. But there are many types of such devices in dentistry. Soft dentures are one of the modern types of such structures, below we want to provide maximum information about their convenience and useful properties.

A few decades ago, there was no talk of any soft prostheses. All such structures were made only from rigid materials (plastic or metal). Today, removable prostheses made of soft materials (nylon or silicone) are popular among many patients.

Such designs are compact, elastic, and have a lot of shades and allow the dentist to perfectly match the dentures to the color of the patient's gums. Even if it replaces the teeth of the upper or lower dentition even from a soft material, then outwardly it will not be noticeable to others at all.

More often, soft removable structures are recommended for patients with partial loss of teeth. Occasionally, such a prosthesis can replace one or two missing "native" teeth.

What are soft dentures made of?

Many ordinary people do not distinguish any difference in what kind of soft material they are made of - nylon, acrylic or polyurethane. However, these are completely different materials with different chemical composition.

In addition, silicone is much softer than other materials used in prosthetics. Often, on the pages of Internet publications, all soft prostheses are called "silicone" due to the fact that most of the articles are written by people who are not related to professional dentistry and do not capture the nuances in the quality of raw materials for prosthetics. However, the difference even in the appearance of structures made of nylon or silicone is noticeable to any practicing orthodontist.

Soft acrylic dentures

Acrylic allows the prosthesis to achieve maximum similarity with the patient's gums.

Manufactured according to injection molding technique. The disadvantages of this material are:

  • frequent phenomena of allergic reactions due to its constituent chemical elements;
  • the porosity of this material contributes to the appearance of an unpleasant odor and various inflammations in the oral cavity.

Polyurethane prostheses

It is also considered suitable material and is known to:

  • contributes to a good fixation of the prosthesis in the mouth;
  • due to plasticity does not lead to traumatism of the soft tissues of the oral cavity;
  • due to its non-hygroscopicity, it does not accumulate a bad smell in the mouth.

Nylon prostheses

  • elastic;
  • withstands heavy loads;
  • rarely contributes to allergies;
  • does not injure mucous membranes.

Indications for soft prostheses

Most often, soft dentures are used in the following cases:

  • absence of posterior teeth (supporting for attaching prostheses);
  • partial loss of teeth;
  • if the turning of teeth is contraindicated for other types of prosthetics;
  • with contraindications for other types of prosthetics.

Benefits of soft dentures

Soft designs have many rave reviews online. Indeed, it is not uncommon for people who have worn bulky dentures made of hard materials for years and suffer from constant chafing or loss of taste, are incredibly happy about the emergence of alternative prosthetic materials. And not in vain, because soft structures have a lot of such advantages for the patient:

  • are also used for completely missing teeth (edentulous);
  • do not cause discomfort while wearing;
  • ideally repeat the relief and color of the gums (“invisible prostheses”);
  • impact resistance and safety when falling (due to good flexibility) in contrast to plastic structures;
  • it is permissible to use for allergies to metal types of prostheses;
  • ease of care;
  • excellent fixation in the mouth (similar to "wet glass"), often without the additional use of aids (gel, glue, cream);
  • fast addiction (about 2 weeks);
  • softness and protection from;
  • the possibility of using after injuries and diseases of the jaw;
  • do not lose their shape and color with proper care;
  • the only option for prosthetics with contraindications to turning teeth;
  • effective for preventing the process of deformation during temporary loss of teeth in childhood and adolescents;
  • there is no need to cover the abutment teeth with crowns.

About the shortcomings of soft removable dentures

Before choosing the optimal type of prostheses, you need to know about all the shortcomings of these designs. What kind of "pitfalls" can be encountered when wearing soft dental structures?

These include:

  • easily scratched and change color;
  • absorb foreign odors;
  • rapid subsidence of the prosthesis (more than 2-3 mm) forces it to be corrected or replaced;
  • frequent visits to the dentist for periodic correction of prostheses;
  • excessive elasticity and flexibility interfere with normal chewing of food;
  • lack of polishing of the prosthesis contributes to the accumulation of plaque and the deposition of food particles on it;
  • faster onset of gum atrophy than with rigid structures;
  • short service life (5-6 years);
  • high price.

When to choose solid dentures

  • deep atrophic changes in the bones of the jaw;
  • tooth mobility;
  • inflammatory diseases of the jaw;
  • small height of adjacent teeth;
  • with missing front teeth;
  • in the absence of more than 3 back teeth.

Dentists vs.

It would seem that soft prostheses should fill the dental market, because they have so many different advantages. In reality, things are somewhat different.

Many patients cannot use such removable structures for a long time and after 1-2 months of torment they order new rigid prostheses. Why is this happening?

Chewing problems

It is great, of course, that soft dentures are ideal for natural teeth in terms of their aesthetics. However, we must not forget that the most important thing is the functionality of dental appliances and their ability to chew food normally. But with this, just for soft plates, the situation is not so great.

Alas, prostheses made of silicone or nylon cannot provide the necessary rigidity for fixing crowns for comfortable chewing.

Many patients complain of pain and excruciating discomfort while eating, when chewing food becomes flour.

And in the products of their polyurethane, the seemingly comfortable soft frame is not able to cope with normal food loads.

tissue atrophy

Any removable structures to some extent lead to atrophy of the jaw bones over time. Dentistry has not yet learned to deal with this phenomenon.

Uneven nutritional load when wearing removable dentures unnecessarily overloads some teeth and excessively spares others. Stopping to participate in chewing, the jaw is supplied with blood worse and unpleasant atrophic processes develop in it. Excessively loaded areas of the bone also suffer due to the gradual processes of destruction in it.

The process of atrophy when using soft devices is faster than when using hard-type devices.

Usually the rate of atrophy in this case reaches 1 mm per year. And when the jaw sags by 2-3 mm, the prosthesis already needs to be redone. In this case, the patient suffers from unbearable pain when chewing and can no longer use a denture.

Removable soft construction options

Soft dental appliances are of two types - partial and complete.

Partial are used in the absence of 1-2 or several teeth in a row.

It is this type of construction that most often has good reviews from patients, since the function of chewing food is perfectly compensated by neighboring teeth.

Full dentures are used in the absolute absence of teeth in one of the jaws.

Sometimes such devices are fixed on the supporting molars. Implants, clasps or are usually used as fixators for soft prostheses. The price of products largely depends on the type of clamps.

Installation and care of soft prostheses

It is very easy to use soft structures. To do this, the oral cavity is cleaned with a special solution. Then the removable structure is put on to connect with the existing mount. Many patients use special glue when dressing for better adhesion to the gums.

Caring for such soft removable devices is not at all laborious.

They are easy to put on and take off. Here are the basic rules for caring for soft dental prostheses. For long-term service of such devices, it is necessary:

  • Daily cleansing with a brush (preferably 2-3 times a day, after meals).
  • The use of abrasive pastes is prohibited, as it can damage the surface and lead to a quick failure of the prosthesis.
  • Rinsing with water after a meal is a must.
  • Daily treatment with special disinfectant solutions and pastes (type) for disinfection and combating unpleasant odors.
    • Removal of structures at night is not necessary.
    • The food load after the installation of structures should be increased gradually, starting with liquid food and then moving on to more solid types of food.
    • It is forbidden to eat solid foods (crackers, nuts, large pieces of vegetables), as well as viscous foods (toffee, chewing gum).
    • There may be a temporary deterioration in diction after installation.
    • It is important to have your dentures at least once a month for professional cleaning in a technical laboratory.

If a breakdown has occurred

Occasionally, flexible fixtures can also break. This can happen when:

  • violation of the rules of use;
  • defects during the manufacturing process.

However, most often this trouble is fixable and the plate can be repaired. And any repair is still cheaper than the manufacture of new structures.

Price

Prices for soft dental appliances in various clinics and cities in Russia range from 25,000 rubles (full denture) to 15,000 rubles (microprosthesis). For a partial construction to replace 10 teeth, you will have to pay about 20,000 rubles.

Patient reviews

Olesya

I ordered nylon prostheses for my mother. At first everything was nice, but now she is in pain while eating. The doctor promised that everything would be fine soon. We have been waiting for the third month, and the soreness still remains.

Yuri

My brother has been wearing a soft prosthesis for 4 years now. He is missing one tooth and cannot afford implants. The main thing is not to forget to clean it immediately. In general everything is good.

Hope

I got used to such a device in my mouth for a very long time. But still annoying food, which now and then gets under it. Yes, cleaning takes a lot of time.

Lera

I'm still young, and 3 teeth are missing. The doctor recommended a soft partial denture. I was so afraid that he would be seen. But no, the color matched perfectly to my gums. They have great aesthetics.

Vladimir

I have been wearing a nylon prosthesis for a year now. I don't like the fact that it absorbs all odors. And yes, they cost me dearly. But outwardly, the teeth look like native ones.

In any case, before installing any dental appliances, it will not be superfluous to read the reviews of other patients who have already installed similar structures. After all, the modern industry of beauty and health, thanks to the most powerful advertising, does not always meet our expectations. Therefore, do not lightly make decisions that cost a tidy sum of money, but quickly lead to disappointment. Health to you and the right choice in everything!

Removable prosthetics has not lost its relevance even with the advent of fixed structures and implants. Soft models allow you to achieve a flawless smile at a budget price with minimal tissue trauma. Removable dentures are produced single (replace 1 tooth in a row), partial (restore several teeth in a row), complete (made for the entire jaw). The models also differ in material, and the most modern of them are acrylic, silicone and nylon. Let us consider in more detail what soft dentures are and what is better to choose from the existing options.

These prostheses are the most common due to their budgetary cost and lightness, but are used mainly as a temporary measure. Acrylic, in fact, is a type of plastic, so choosing a color for natural enamel is not difficult.

Complete acrylic denture

Basically, acrylic options are chosen by elderly patients as a permanent and budgetary system. But as a temporary measure, for example, to replace the entire dentition or several teeth in a row, acrylic crowns are also installed for young people. Acrylic is also used for children's prosthetics during the period of changing milk teeth to molars. This helps to prevent pathologies of the formation of the dentition or bite.

All such models can be either partially removable or completely, depending on the design chosen by the client.

Let's look at the advantages of plastic products.

Let's look at the cons of such products.

  1. Injury. Plastic prostheses are quite rigid and rough, which often leads to damage to the oral cavity (rubbing, microcracks). Mucosal wounds, in turn, are a breeding ground for bacteria, as a result of which stomatitis, herpes, fungal infections and other inflammatory processes can occur.
  2. Damage to healthy teeth. Despite the lightness, the design is still attached to healthy teeth with metal elements that can seriously damage the enamel and lead to the slow destruction of a healthy tooth.
  3. component toxicity.

    Acrylic contains methyl ether, which over time begins to be released from the product and enters the patient's bloodstream, causing poisoning or severe allergies.

  4. Porous surface. The pores inside the plastic contribute to the settling of food residues, waste products of bacteria, food dyes and pigments. This point makes plastic systems undesirable for long-term prosthetics.

Silicone prostheses

Silicone soft dentures (photos and reviews of specialists can be viewed below) imitate the oral cavity as much as possible. The translucent flexible component allows you to match the natural color of the gums and crowns.

Silicone denture

The system is a silicone base where plastic crowns are installed.

Micro gaps remain between artificial materials, where food debris, tartar and bacteria fall. Therefore, dentists do not recommend the use of silicone material for long-term prosthetics. As a rule, they are installed for 1-2 years.

There are other disadvantages besides the short lifespan.

There are also many advantages to a removable soft silicone denture.

  1. Aesthetics. Silicone models are chosen mainly because of the maximum reproduction of the natural jaw with all the elements.
  2. Safety for your teeth. Installation of the structure does not require grinding of abutment teeth.
  3. Ease. Silicone prostheses are even lighter than plastic ones, while being less massive and thinner.
  4. Hypoallergenic. Silicone is classified as an inert component suitable for a maximum of consumers.
  5. Reliable fixation. The prosthesis is qualitatively placed in the oral cavity, adjacent to the palate and fixed with the help of clasps.
  6. Softness. One of the softest designs, due to which the pressure on the gums and healthy teeth is minimal.

Nylon removable dentures

Nylon is a material that is different from silicone, but retains many of its positive properties. In addition to the advantages mentioned above, nylon prostheses have 2 more positive qualities:

Nylon prosthesis

  • the most aesthetic- when fixing in the oral cavity, no metal elements are used, but only pink clasps, absolutely invisible to others;
  • softest and most flexible which makes wearing almost invisible.

The disadvantages of nylon products, unfortunately, are much greater.

We examined how to choose soft dentures among removable dentures, what advantages and disadvantages they have.

When choosing an individual prosthesis, it is important to pay attention not to the price of the product, but to the quality, durability and, most importantly, wearing comfort. There are people who are ideally suited for short-lived plastic constructions, but at the same time uncomfortable in nylon prostheses. Consult with your doctor and choose the right material together, because the health and life of your own teeth depends on it!

Based on the name, people often think when they get their "flexible design" that they were deceived and slipped a cheaper option - a regular plastic (acrylic) one.

In fact, the nylon construction does not have much flexibility. It is only slightly more flexible than a conventional plastic denture. Greater softness is not needed, since the product must hold the chewing load.

Even a slight flexibility of the prosthesis is both its plus and its minus at the same time ... But first things first.

What does the structure look like

  • Reminder to patients before receiving the design

    Remember that any removable prosthesis almost never sits perfectly on the gum. He will rub the first time and change diction, as well as cause profuse salivation.

    Every design needs time to adapt. Be sure to visit the dentist for correction. The specialist will file where the prosthesis presses or rubs.

    At first, the new detachable design sits tight. Sometimes it seems even too much. After a few months, it will already fall off if it does not initially sit tight enough. The relief of the mucosa under the prosthesis changes.

    This does not mean that the design should rub to the point of blood or press hard on the adjacent teeth, on the gums so that you feel discomfort or pain. It should be removed and put on with little effort.

    The history of the appearance of nylon structures

    Flexible prostheses appeared in America in the 60s of the last century. Initially, they were intended for young employees who lost their teeth in military operations. They needed to restore chewing function quickly and AT TIME.

    The nylon structure was installed for 1–2 years. When it became possible to engage in prosthetics in calm conditions, it was changed.

    The product is designed to restore several lost teeth in the front or side of the jaw. An important condition is the presence on the sides of the missing dental support, where special gingival "processes" - clasps are installed. Then the prosthesis holds better, “walks” less and looks quite aesthetically pleasing.

    When can it be delivered, and in what cases it is not worth it?

    Flexible removable dentures made of nylon are not intended for restoration of molars or for total dental loss. A complete removable product made of such material will hold worse than acrylic. This is due to its design features: slight flexibility.

    A complete removable denture does not fall out due to the fact that it “sticks” to the gum and is held by soft tissues on the sides. Nylon has little flexibility and sticks worse, especially when chewing food. Somewhere it slightly moves away from the gum, and the “valve zone” is violated. As a result, the prosthesis begins to hang out.

    Plus, that same flexibility results in the design transferring more pressure to the gum and bone underneath than a more rigid acrylic prosthesis. Thereby causing their great atrophy. This means worsening conditions for fixing a removable product or for installing implants, if you decide to put it in the period of financial preparation for implantation.

    Modern nylon is more rigid (for example, Deflex), but nevertheless, even from such a material, flexible dental prostheses have a short service life - 3 years. After this time, you need to do something: install a new one or adjust the old one based on the degree of tissue change under the structure.

    If you do not repair and do not put another product, this will lead to bone atrophy. A flexible prosthesis will completely stop holding and will begin to fall out with any awkward movement of the tongue.

    It happens that an acrylic prosthesis (after wearing a nylon one for a long time) has nothing to hold on to. Then implantation may be required to somehow fix the removable prosthesis on the edentulous jaw.

    A flexible product cannot be repaired (when it is broken) if you have 1 or more teeth removed during wearing. A nylon prosthesis can only be exchanged for another. This is due to the fact that new plastic teeth cannot be welded here.

    By itself, a nylon prosthesis is designed for certain conditions. There must be teeth on the sides of the missing ones so that you can lean on them with special gum "processes" - clasps. Then it holds better, does not “walk” and looks quite aesthetically pleasing.

    A flexible denture is thinner than a conventional plastic denture. In the mouth, every micron and fraction of a millimeter is very felt. The thinner it is, the easier it is to get used to it.

    However, with a change in the thickness of the base of such a prosthesis, greater flexibility appears. This means that the product will be worse to hold and take on the load. It bends when chewing food. The load is not on the prosthesis, but on the gum, the bone under it and on the adjacent teeth.

    This leads to serious violations. There is a decrease in bone tissue, gums and exposure of the roots of the teeth adjacent to the prosthesis.

    Design advantages

    • translucent: through it shines through its own gum. Due to this, the product is less noticeable to others;
    • well fixed with small defects. When 1-4 teeth are missing and there are still others on the sides of them, other options for a temporary removable prosthesis in such a situation hold worse and are more noticeable to others;
    • nylon is hypoallergenic;
    • has "gingival clasps" (pink translucent paws). They rest on the gum near adjacent teeth. They are almost invisible to the eye from the side, unlike metal paws (clasps);
    • it is difficult to break it (provided that it is not dropped on a tiled floor);
    • the material is lighter in weight when compared with removable dentures, which are based on a metal base;
    • nylon is thinner than classic plastic constructions;
    • does not require turning adjacent teeth, covering them with crowns, since the fixing paws rest on the gum and dental base;
    • allergic patients, especially those who have old metal crowns in their mouths, do not need to be afraid of galvanism (the appearance of electric currents when saliva comes into contact with dissimilar metals).

    Disadvantages of flexible dentures

    • if the product is broken, it cannot be repaired. You can only make a new one;
    • lost 1 or more teeth (while wearing a flexible prosthesis) - it is impossible to weld artificial ones and add another pink base to close the missing ones. You just have to redo the design;
    • atrophy under such a prosthesis is faster than under more rigid ones;
    • should not be used in the complete absence of teeth. It will be worse fixed, and under the structure, the process of bone loss is faster;
    • require special care: you need to clean with a soft toothbrush and non-abrasive paste! Because the material is more porous. It wears off faster with a stiff brush. The outer polished layer of the prosthesis is damaged, and the latter begins to absorb odors and plaque (from coffee and cigarettes). As a result, an unpleasant odor appears from the prosthesis. It is impossible to clean it in a laboratory or at a dentist (as can be done with a conventional plastic prosthesis), since the relief of the inner part of the structure will change. It will be worse fixed;
    • if the product begins to “hang out”, the usual plastic one can adjust (rebase, that is, correct the inner surface of the prosthesis with adaptation to the changed relief of the gums and the bone on which it rests) the dentist right in the chair. The flexible design can only be relocated by a dental technician in the laboratory. You will need to take casts (impressions) in a new way, send the prosthesis to a specialist for several days. In terms of cost, it will be 2–3 times more expensive than relining an acrylic (plastic product).

    Difference in materials

    A flexible prosthesis is made of nylon (but not the one from which tights are made). There are different manufacturers with different trade names. For example: deflex and valplast.

    Valplast

    Valplast as a nylon construction option

    The material from which they began to make flexible nylon prostheses in America in the 60s. Its main difference from more modern material is that it is "more flexible".

    Accordingly, the porosity is higher: it absorbs odors and pigment from tea / coffee / cigarettes faster. The material is easier to scratch with a toothbrush and abrasive paste. Under it, the process of atrophy of the bone and gums is faster.

    The service life of the prosthesis is 1-2 years. Soft plaque and tartar are more firmly fixed to such a product (this is an unpleasant smell and unaesthetic appearance).

    Before putting the prosthesis into the patient's mouth, the doctor heats it in hot water up to 40 degrees. So it becomes softer and causes less discomfort to the client at the stage of adaptation. But the material will be stiffer if the patient eats or drinks something cold. It turns out that it is temperature dependent.

    Deflex

    Deflex as a design option

    More modern material and expensive. Deflex is denser than Valplast, Less absorbs odors, pigment. Harder to scratch with a brush (but possible). The service life of the structure is increased to 3 years.

    Before putting the prosthesis into the mouth, it does not need to be heated: when taking cold food and drinks, it does not harden. Due to the increased rigidity, the prosthesis can be thinner (2 times thinner than acrylic). It is also translucent, allowing it to blend into the surrounding soft tissue.

    Due to the greater density (rigidity) of the material, the fixation of the structure has improved. It became possible to manufacture a complete removable prosthesis from Deflex.

    However, everything is the same with the repair: relining is required every year, the dentist needs to control the process of bone atrophy under the prosthesis. If it breaks, it cannot be repaired, only another one can be made. It is impossible to weld new teeth to replace those removed during the wearing of the product.

    Flexible (nylon) structures in Russia are famous as a revolutionary method of prosthetics. In fact, they began to be made in America in the 60s, that is, about 55 years ago.

    During this time, the range of their application was limited. These prostheses have rather “narrow” conditions of use. They do not last long and can accelerate the loss of bone tissue under them, which is their main disadvantage, despite some advantages.

    Designs are not used for combined prosthetics, when microimplants are installed in case of complete loss of teeth, so that the removable product is better fixed and becomes “conditionally removable”. Only rigid plastic prostheses are suitable for this method. Since bending when removing the structure will inevitably lead to an early breakage when removed for cleaning.

    Care and supplements you may need

    1. Special soft brush for hygienic procedures. It is sold in pharmacies and online stores by Corega, Protefix, Fittident.
    2. These same manufacturers have special cleaning tablets and paste for cleaning dentures. The latter differs in that it is softer and does not scratch the surface of the product. In cleansing pills, the structure must be soaked for a couple of hours (possibly overnight) several times a week.

    If you smoke or drink coffee, take bleach tablets and try to soak your dentures in them every other day. The pill dissolves in water at room temperature in such a volume as to completely cover the structure. No more liquid needed.

    They took out the prosthesis after 2 hours (minimum). Then it was thoroughly washed under running water with a brush.

    1. Fixing gels for prostheses. They are applied to the inner surface of the product to improve its fixation. The agent must be applied in a thin layer and at the end of the day it must be removed (cleaned off).

    It is impossible to leave it on the prosthesis for more than a day. So the microflora begins to multiply in it.

Nylon dentures are removable orthopedic structures that are made from a soft and elastic polymer. They are comfortable and inconspicuous, have a minimum of contraindications. They replaced acrylic dentures, which often cause allergies.

Why nylon dentures?

The fact is that nylon is a synthetic polymer that is highly resistant to mechanical stress, it does not cause allergies and does not change color when in contact with food.

Nylon dentures are called invisible because they consist of a row of artificial teeth on a frame made of a translucent pink material. This base mimics natural gums and looks natural.

Flexible dentures fit snugly to the gums, so patients quickly get used to them. As a rule, full adaptation takes only a week.

Types of flexible prostheses:

  • full - used in the absence of all teeth;
  • partial - with the loss of part of the dentition;
  • for 1-2 teeth - this is a "butterfly" microprosthesis, used as a temporary structure before implantation.

Scope of soft prostheses for teeth

Nylon dentures are indicated in such cases:

  • congenital and acquired adentia;
  • allergy to acrylic, metals or other orthopedic materials;
  • if prosthetics are required for gingivitis and periodontitis;
  • for patients with traumatic professions and athletes (a flexible basis cannot be broken);
  • temporary prosthetics in children.

Contraindications to the installation of nylon prostheses

Flexible structures do not apply in such cases:

  • growth and overhanging of the gingival margin;
  • significant atrophy of the jaw bone tissue;
  • recession (lowering) of the gums;
  • exacerbation of inflammatory processes in the oral cavity;
  • too low crowns of adjacent (supporting) teeth.

Advantages and disadvantages of nylon prostheses

Which dentures to choose: acrylic or nylon? Soft orthopedic products are considered more advanced.

Obvious pluses:

  • do not deform, withstand chewing loads;
  • lighter and more comfortable than products made of polyurethane (flexible plastic);
  • there are no metal fasteners that cause an unpleasant aftertaste in the mouth;
  • soft hypoallergenic material does not injure or irritate the mucous membrane;
  • hygroscopicity (nylon does not accumulate odors).

Minuses:

  • short service life - a maximum of 5 years;
  • high price - 4-5 times higher than the cost of acrylic prostheses;
  • the complexity of hygienic care for nylon prostheses - hard toothbrushes can scratch a smooth surface;
  • "subsidence" of the frame, atrophy of the gums or bone due to increased pressure (the gum drops by about 1 mm per year).

Fabrication and installation of nylon prostheses

Making nylon orthotics is a labor-intensive process that can take 2-3 weeks.

Manufacturing steps:

  1. At the first visit, the doctor takes a cast of the jaw using a plastic mass.
  2. The impression is sent to the dental laboratory.
  3. A dental technician makes a plaster cast of the jaw.
  4. Based on the dummy, an individual model is produced.
  5. At the second appointment, the dentist fixes the finished product, and, if necessary, makes a correction.

Fixation occurs due to clasps (devices in the form of semicircular hooks), which are also made of nylon. The clasp covers the adjacent tooth in the gum zone, securely fixing the entire structure. Enamel grinding is not required.

Nylon prostheses do not create additional load on adjacent crowns, so they can be installed even in patients with increased tooth mobility.

Photos before and after the installation of a partial nylon prosthesis

Caring for nylon dentures

Nylon orthotics can be worn all the time, even at night. They should be removed from the oral cavity only for hygienic care.

Discomfort and problems with pronunciation may occur immediately after installation, which is normal. It is recommended to rinse the prosthesis with water after each meal.

In the morning and in the evening, you should clean with special soft brushes, removing food particles and plaque. Do not use any bleaching agents.

Also, once every 2-3 days, you need to immerse your prosthesis in a disinfectant liquid, for example, chlorhexidine rasters, which is sold at any pharmacy. Soluble antiseptic tablets Corega, Protefix, etc. are also suitable.

Prices for soft dentures made of nylon

Most dentists offer flexible prostheses of the well-known brands Quadrotti and Valplast. The average cost of such devices:

  • complete removable prosthesis - from 25,000 rubles;
  • partial - about 20,000 rubles;
  • micro-prosthesis for 1-3 teeth - from 15,000 rubles.

Dentistry took another step forward when they were created, but few people know what it is.

This device, which replaces lost bone formations in the mouth, is made from elastic raw materials - nylon or polyurethane.

It does not harm the mucous membrane on the inside of the cheeks and lips and is securely fixed in place according to the “wet glass” principle.

Flexible Design Features

The prosthesis, for the creation of which nylon is used, is a lamellar structure.

It is in close contact with the jaw and palate and is fixed in that part of the oral cavity where at least two bone formations were removed.

Often, a flexible prosthesis is installed on jaws that are completely devoid of teeth.

The nylon structure, which replaces the torn out bone formations, consists of several elements:

  • the base part, that is, a plate that copies the contours of the gums and does not differ in color from the shade of the soft tissues in the oral cavity;
  • clamps, also made of elastic material.

Full, installed on the entire jaw, looks like a curved plate to which artificial teeth are attached.

It is put on the gums and is fixed due to the suction effect. Such a prosthesis is well attached to the upper jaw. At the bottom, the fixation of the structure can be much weaker.

Removable dentures, made of elastic material, get dirty during the day. Therefore, in the evening they must be carefully removed from the mouth and cleaned with a soft brush from plaque formed from small particles of food.

The nylon structure should be disinfected, for which it must be immersed in a glass with a solution prepared from a special tablet.

When less than 10 bone formations have been removed from a person who has applied for dental prosthetics, a partial nylon denture is made for him.

Such a design can be installed in the oral cavity only if most of the gums are not empty. It is customary to use both permanently and temporarily.

Nylon prostheses are best ordered at the clinic, where there is a dental technician's office. If it is not there, then the orthodontist gives casts to a third-party laboratory for the manufacture of the structure.

As a result, the patient has to wait a long time for the next stage of prosthetics of bone formations - trying on the finished product.

When a specialist who creates artificial teeth works in an office next to a doctor, interaction between them is possible.

This is a guarantee that flexible dentures will be of high quality, and most importantly, not too expensive.

The manufacture of flexible dentures should not take a lot of time. To install a structure with artificial teeth in the oral cavity, you will need to go to the orthodontist at least 3 times.

At the first appointment, the doctor makes an impression, at the second, he tries on the finished prosthesis, and at the third, he fixes it to the sky and gums.

Nylon is not the only material that flexible dentures are made from, and prices for this product can vary.

The cost of the structure is also affected by the number of missing bone formations.

But, despite all these factors, a plate with attached artificial teeth is relatively inexpensive, unlike an implant that is installed in place of only one removed bone formation.

Advantages and disadvantages of a nylon prosthesis

The most important advantage of flexible dentures is elasticity and softness. Thanks to these properties, adaptation to the product is quick and painless.

In addition, a flexible design that replaces extracted teeth is attached to the gums without the use of fixing devices.

Moreover, even full nylon dentures hold just as well in their place, because they stick close to the soft tissues that cover the edges of the jaws.

Those who use such a product rarely have a desire to lubricate it with an adhesive agent in order to improve fixation.

The process of creating a flexible design is easy, because nylon or other elastic material adapts well to the individual size and shape of the gums.

In addition, this raw material allows you to achieve high aesthetics of the prosthesis. Unlike hard plates with ceramic teeth attached to crowns with metal staples, a flexible product for replacing fallen bone formations is fixed using inconspicuous soft hooks.

Nylon or polyurethane dentures do not cause discomfort during use. You can even fall asleep with them, which cannot be done with any other structure that replaces lost bone formations.

To prevent deterioration of the flexible prosthesis, it needs to be washed in a disinfectant solution only once a week.

There are no special requirements for cleaning this product with toothpaste and a brush. The main thing is to do this at least once a day.

Dental prosthetics made of nylon or polyurethane do not cause allergic phenomena. Only those who have installed a structure with metal elements in the oral cavity can face them.

The elastic material used in the manufacture of flexible prostheses is similar in properties to the oral mucosa, and therefore cannot provoke an inadequate reaction of the body.

In addition, soft hooks of nylon or polyurethane products can be attached to the crowns of unprepared teeth.

Despite the huge list of advantages, flexible prostheses can also have some disadvantages.

First of all, they should include the fragility of the product, which quickly shrinks and is damaged under the influence of food, although at first it seems to be strong in bending.

It will be possible to use a prosthesis made of nylon for no more than 6 years. In addition, the elasticity of the structure is at the same time not only an advantage, but also a significant disadvantage.

Because of it, pieces of food press unevenly on the product, as a result of which chronic inflammation of the gums can develop.

Since nylon and polyurethane are soft materials, they do not sand well. As a result, the surface at the junction of artificially created teeth and a flexible plate remains rough and requires thorough cleaning with a toothbrush.

After some time, food and salt residues can accumulate in this place, which threatens the formation of tartar, which will harm natural teeth.

So it will be possible to avoid negative consequences and increase the time of using a soft structure up to 10 years.

It is more expedient to choose a nylon or polyurethane denture for a person who has already lost all bone formations in the oral cavity. You will get used to such a replacement of teeth very quickly.
