How to make a high chair with your own hands. DIY children's high chair (dwg drawings) DIY children's folding chair

As the child develops, the need arises to purchase additional furniture, for example, a children's desk. Here, a preschool child can do modeling and drawing, and a schoolchild can do homework. Considering that a child needs to develop correct posture from an early age, desk, intended “for adults” is no longer suitable for children’s needs. Today, many models of children's tables can be found in a furniture store. But if you want to receive completely suitable option for your child, taking into account the specifics of his children's room, it is better to make it yourself. Moreover, making and assembling children's furniture with your own hands is not difficult task, which can be done even by those who do not have carpentry skills.

Let's look further at how to make children's furniture with your own hands. As an example, a variant of manufacturing a children's table of a simple design is proposed. It is suitable for both preschool children and schoolchildren. Such tables are often included in children's furniture for kindergarten made with your own hands.

For work we will need the following tools and materials:

  • Solid wood sheet (for mounting a table top).
  • Wooden blocks 60 by 60 mm for the construction of a supporting frame.
  • Wooden boards 40 by 40 mm.
  • Electric drill.
  • Hacksaw.
  • Tripod (for fixing wooden structures during their processing).
  • Grinding machine.
  • Sandpaper.
  • Construction knife.
  • Roulette.
  • Furniture pins.

Order installation work for making a simple table design:

  1. At the first stage, you should draw up drawings and diagrams for children's furniture made by yourself. Here the dimensions of the future structure are determined, the most basic of which is the height of the product. It should be such that the child’s back remains straight when sitting. In addition, the child’s height should be taken into account, since the table is not made for one year.
  2. Based on the schematic drawings of the product, the legs of the structure are cut out. It is better to cut them out of a wooden block in such a way that they do not taper downwards, but remain even. Otherwise, the table structure may become unstable.
  3. The legs are sanded with sandpaper. Using end mills they are attached to the table frame.
  4. When assembling the frame of children's furniture with your own hands from plywood, you should mark the points at which the structural elements will be fastened together. In this case, the tongue and groove fastening method will be used. To do this, holes of the required diameter “for the groove” are drilled at the marked points. The dimensions of the hole must correspond to the size of the future groove.
  5. We fix the legs in the tripod and cut grooves in them. There should be 2 grooves on each leg.
  6. We mark the places on the frame where the “spikes” should be placed. When taking measurements, be extremely careful that the “grooves” on the legs and the “tenks” on the frame are located at the same distance, otherwise the structure will turn out to be unstable and crooked. Using a carpenter's knife, we cut out pieces of wood on the frame, thereby forming a “groove” in the middle.
  7. We carry out preliminary measurements the entire structure so that it has the correct shape during assembly. If necessary, we adjust the dimensions of the wooden elements.
  8. Next, we perform a test assembly of the structure. At the same time, make sure that the made legs are firmly attached using the tongue-and-groove technology to the frame. After the correctness and stability of the assembled furniture has been checked, we again disassemble it into individual parts. Then we carry out the final assembly of the product, while coating the places where the wooden elements are attached with construction glue. For stability, the structure is additionally fastened with self-tapping screws.
  9. Wooden table in finished form carefully sanded with sandpaper, then treated with protective mixtures and varnished. Do-it-yourself children's garden furniture is made using a similar technology.

Folding children's table attached to the wall

Let us now consider the method of manufacturing another design, namely, a folding children's table attached to the wall. This option can be used when creating a set of children's furniture for the kitchen with your own hands.

To work you will need some tools and materials:

  • Wooden blocks 60x20 mm (length 75 cm) – 4 pcs.
  • Wooden blocks 60x20 mm (length 35 cm) – 4 pcs.
  • A sheet of durable plywood for making a table top.
  • Electric drill.
  • Grinding machine.
  • Sandpaper.
  • Construction knife.
  • Roulette.
  • Wood glue.
  • Varnish for processing wooden products.
  • Furniture pins.
  • Dowels.

The procedure for installation work for the manufacture of a folding table structure:

  1. First of all, you should draw up drawings for children's furniture made by yourself. At this stage, the dimensions of the future table are determined. It is worth saying that this design will be very convenient for rooms with a small area.
  2. From wooden blocks we cut out 2 folding legs in the form of frames for a children's table. We make holes in the end parts for fastening the structure. We pour glue into them and fasten the frame elements together, additionally tightening it with loops.
  3. Using an electric drill, we make holes in the wall. Dowels will then be inserted into them.
  4. Since the folding structure is being made, the tabletop should be made of two parts. The first part should be no more than 27 cm, and the second, depending on the required size of the table (usually its length is up to 50 cm). The tabletop elements are fastened together using hinges.
  5. The first (smallest) part of the tabletop is attached to the wall using previously installed dowels.
  6. After the two parts of the table top have been fastened with hinges, it is attached to the wooden support legs. As a result, we received a folding structure, which, if necessary, can be carefully removed and free up useful space in the room.

DIY children's table-desk

Design of a children's desk (dimensions and materials from which the structural elements of a table for schoolchildren are made):

  • Desk top. Made from MDF sheet. Its dimensions are 50 by 70 cm.
  • Shelf (located under the table top). It is made, like the tabletop itself, from MDF sheet. Its dimensions are 20 by 70 cm.
  • Desk box. Its side walls should be positioned at a slight angle. Their dimensions are 40 by 90 cm. The front and back parts of the box are made in dimensions of 15 by 65 cm.
  • Wooden desk legs. They should expand slightly downward (they are made in the shape of a trapezoid). The dimensions of the upper part of the legs are 40 cm, and the lower part is 60 cm.
  • A wooden plank on which the child will place his feet while working at the table. The structural elements are connected to each other by body ties.

Work order:

  1. At the first stage, you should draw drawings of a children's desk. Here the dimensions and shape of the finished product are noted. In addition, at the planning stage, an approximate cost estimate for carpentry work and the purchase of materials is determined.
  2. We make wooden legs of the structure. We make holes in them using an 8 mm drill.
  3. We insert confirmations into the finished holes. The lower leg bar will be attached to them. We thoroughly sand the legs and bottom crossbar of the desk so that their surface is smooth.
  4. Next we make the desk box. We make holes for confirmations on the surface of the front and back parts of the box. The holes are made with an indentation of 8 mm from the edge of the planks.
  5. We collect all the parts of the box and fasten them together. To line the bottom of the structure we use a sheet of plywood.
  6. The legs are secured with an overlap of 10 cm. All structural elements are tightened using ties.
  7. We connect the side parts, the box and the base of the structure with screws. To attach the table top, you must first make 10 holes for confirmations. To ensure reliability, treat the joints of the product with construction glue, and secure the bottom of the box with metal corners. Then carefully check the stability of the assembled structure.
  8. All wooden structural elements are sanded, treated with protective compounds and varnished.

It is necessary to make a chair under the desk, since not every one of them will fit the design. The work order is as follows:

  1. We make the legs of the structure. To do this, we use wooden blocks 20 by 25 cm. We make holes in each of them for connection with ties.
  2. The seat and back of the chair are made of durable MDF sheet. Approximate Data Sizes structural elements the following are seat depth - 27 cm, backrest width 15 cm and seat width - 35 cm.
  3. Attach the chair legs to the seat. For reliability, we attach metal corners from below.
  4. The side parts of the backrest can be made from wooden blocks or from pieces profile pipe. We attach them to the seat using bolts.
  5. At the bottom, the wooden legs are connected to each other by a small wooden plank.
  6. All wooden parts of the product are sanded with sandpaper, treated with protective compounds and varnished.

To make the children's table attractive appearance, it can be decorated using the decoupage technique. For this purpose any bright pictures, which are glued to the tabletop or side parts of the structure, then covered with primer and varnish.

DIY children's furniture: photo

A small wooden stool will find a use in every home. Children run around with great joy in these chairs. Sitting on such a stool is convenient for peeling potatoes and performing other “sedentary” work. However, not many people decide to buy a small stool due to the fact that there is always a more important expense financial resources. But almost everyone can make a small wooden chair with their own hands. To make it you will need a jigsaw and a little imagination.

Preparation.
Manufacturing of parts, grinding.

Painting.

Preparation.
Preparation of material and necessary tools plays an important role and saves time in the future. To make a stool we will need:
- hewn board measuring 800x200x25 mm (dimensions are approximate, you can proceed from what is available),
- 8 shiny screws (50-60 mm),
- sandpaper,
- jigsaw,
- screwdriver or screwdriver,
- paint and varnish on wood,
- tape measure, pencil and corner.

You need to start by marking the board. First of all, using a corner, a pencil and a tape measure, mark a rectangular segment without knots 32-33 cm long. This will be upper part our high chair. Next, we mark two segments of 23 cm each - these will be the sides. Now it is advisable to give them some kind of curly pattern. You can use any objects that have a circle for this, simply outlining them with a pencil. But, this method involves an irrational waste of time. After all, you will have to mark the center and other dimensions in each side. Therefore, for the sides it is better to use a pattern pre-cut from thick cardboard or other material. It will allow you to easily and quickly mark large number sides. Just attach the pattern and trace it with a pencil.

By the way, the use of a figured pattern on the side not only gives them beautiful view, but also allows you to trim off all unwanted knots.
And immediately mark the jumper. It should be trapezoidal in shape and have sides of 230 and 220 mm. The width of the jumper is not important - from 80 to 120 mm.

So, has a marked board.

Important! You should not draw too thick lines - this affects the evenness of the trim. And the pencil is not so easy to erase.

Using a jigsaw we cut out all our parts. Evenness is important here. To trim the cut evenly, it is better to guide the tool blade not along the line, but to the side of it.

You can learn to cut evenly using unnecessary waste. So, let's cut out all the details.

This will give the product not only a beautiful look, but will also hide all possible irregularities in the cutting.
Next, we carefully sand all these parts with fine sandpaper. It is most rational to carry out this procedure at this stage, since a number of inconveniences may arise when grinding the finished structure. It is convenient to sand smooth surfaces by putting sandpaper on wooden block, or on a manual machine for grouting putty. The main thing is quality, since after painting all imperfections will appear and be visible.
This is what sanded and unpolished sides look like.

So, it has the same parts, but ready for assembly.

It is advisable to carry out the assembly in this order:
- connect the sides with the jumper (1 screw on each side);
- place this structure on a flat surface and screw on the top cover (2 screws on each side);
- We strengthen the connection of the sides with the jumper (1 more screw each).

The chair is assembled! We check it again on a flat plane. If the stool is a little wobbly, then we tighten the legs until the product is completely stable.

Painting.
Before painting, we check the product again for defects, and if necessary, erase them and pencil residues. Using a brush, we clean the stool from wood dust and begin painting.
Here “there is no comrade to taste and color”! You can leave the natural color of the wood by painting it with clear varnish. You can give the product specific color using a variety of wood paints, which are abundant in all hardware stores. In principle, one coat is sufficient for painting. But, if, after the first layer has completely dried, the surfaces are lightly sanded again with fine sandpaper and a new layer of varnish is applied, the shine of the product will noticeably increase.
Important! Poorly sanded ends absorb more paint and become darker.

This is what the finished chair looks like, varnished.

A man can realize his creative potential on such utilitarian things as furniture. When the household is in order, when all urgent matters have been done, you can start creating seating furniture. In particular, make a wooden children's highchair. In this version it is without a back, but it can be made with a back. I will provide a drawing separately.

The design is made taking into account adult loads, so, in fact, this is a universal chair. That is, both a child and an adult can sit on it. Here I sketched a drawing of this chair.

Video instructions

This video shows how to make a classic wooden high chair.

What you need for work

Wooden beam 4x4 cm - for the legs of the chair, 4x2 cm - for the upper crossbars, 3x2 cm - for the lower crossbars

Seat weave straps

Nails for attaching straps to the highchair frame

Furniture screw confirmat - for fastening legs and crossbars

Furniture varnish

Tools: drill, square, jig for drilling at an angle, brush for applying varnish

Work progress

1 - 2 - We measure and cut wooden blanks for the chair legs and crossbars to size. Sand the wooden surfaces with sandpaper.

3 - Using a jig, we drill holes at an angle of 45 degrees in the crossbars and legs for confirmation screws.

4 - We connect the frame of the chair with screws. Please note that holes of a smaller diameter should be drilled in the legs of the chair than in the crossbars, otherwise the confirmation screws will not engage. The angle is also 45 degrees.

5 - 6 - Cover the resulting frame of the chair with furniture varnish. Give the chair time to dry. Then we start weaving the seat.

7 - Attach the straps to the frame with nails. First, one row lengthwise, then weave a row across. See photo 7 to understand the principle of weaving. The main thing is combining the rows. That is, we begin to thread each subsequent belt either into the first or into the second transverse belt.

As a result, we get such a wonderful children's highchair. By the way, you can use any belts; if you have a lot of old belts with plaques in your collection from your husband, then you can cut off the plaques and put them to use. You can do the same with the handles of bags, briefcases, and so on...

An interesting version of a children's high chair with bunny ears. Men, think about how to implement the idea. I think it's a very nice option!

In fact, there is nothing complicated in the design. You will need two circles, and legs with ears, plus make a couple of cutouts.

Chairs can be made as a set if you have several children the same age, or twins.

But here is a simpler version of the bunny chair. There is generally one base, legs and ears, cut into grooves and glued there.

High chair with a back made of thick plywood for a child

Well, here’s another option, cut out of thick plywood with a jigsaw. The diagram can be enlarged to scale, transferred to plywood, blanks cut out and the structure assembled.

And here's another interesting idea an oversized high chair for feeding a child at an adult table. Of course, here you should think about how you can implement the idea. It is noteworthy that as the child grows, you can move the lower bar for the baby’s feet.

A beautiful children's chair from the artisan brothers

For people who know how to hold a hammer and a hacksaw in their hands, and even more so, those who know how to use electric carpentry tools, making a children's high chair with their own hands is not a problem. And to get new ideas, here is a selection of the most interesting and comfortable homemade children's high chairs.

2-piece baby high chair

This chair consists of a stool with a small table, which can be used in a low position, or can be installed on a separate stand. This stand can also serve as a more spacious table to an existing chair.

To make a chair, you will need timber with a cross-section of 400x200 mm, a board 20 mm thick and a fiberboard sheet with a minimum size of 2000x2100 mm. The parts necessary to create the chair will be cut from the beams, rounded elements for the arms of the chair will be cut from the board, and the seat and back of the future high chair will be cut from the fiberboard sheet. For tables, plywood, wood or laminated chipboard is used - only 750x450mm. If there is no new material, then it is quite possible to make do with the old one, having previously processed it using the decoupage technique.

For the high chair you will need:

  • 4 legs 390 mm long;
  • 4 rounded elements;
  • 2 top bars 220 mm each;
  • 2 lower crossbars 340 mm each;
  • 3 crossbars 300 mm each;
  • 1 small tabletop (approximately 200x340 mm).

To create a table from wood you need to cut out:

  • 4 legs 500 mm each;
  • 4 strips of 410 mm each;
  • 4 crossbars 340 mm each;
  • 1 tabletop - 380x450 mm.

Technology for creating a baby high chair (with drawing)

Preparing the details

1. The bars need to be sawed in half, then the parts need to be cut out to the required length.

2. Ready elements processed with sandpaper.

3. The rounded parts are cut out of the board according to the diagram, after first transferring the markings to the wooden surface. The diagram is redrawn so that the wood fibers are perpendicular to the bend angle. Then the part will be durable.

4. The parts are connected using rectangular dowels and glue.

5. Wooden connecting elements (dowels) are cut to size 8X20X50 mm. For dowels, holes with a depth of 30-40 mm are made in the parts, corresponding to the size of the joints.

Assembling the sidewalls

The side of the chair consists of 2 curves, upper and lower crossbars and 2 legs. Pre-prepared dowels and holes are lubricated with glue. First, assemble the legs and the bottom crossbar. Make sure the angles are 90 degrees. The next stage is assembling the top crossbar and 2 roundings. When the glue is ready, connect all the elements together, tightening them with a clamp and leaving them to dry for one day. The second side panel is assembled in the same way. But it wouldn’t hurt to compare both elements during assembly to make sure they are identical. The finished sidewalls are treated with sandpaper.

Assembling the seat and back

For the seat and backrest, we cut out 6 pieces from fiberboard measuring 300x250 mm.

We round two corners so that the radius of curvature is 50 mm. The ends of the parts are thoroughly sanded. Then we glue 3 identical parts together and place them under the press.

The back and seat can be connected to each other either with a corner and screws, or with a strip of tin 80-100 mm thick, bent in the center, and screws.

Assembling the entire chair

The sidewalls are connected to each other using cross-bars 300 m long. First, try to “bait” the structure and mark the places where there will be holes for the dowels.

4 holes are pre-made in the slats for the seat. There are also 4 in the bar supporting the backrest (2 at the ends for attaching to the sidewall and 2 cylindrical ones in the bar itself for attaching the backrest). On the sidewalls there are 2 holes made for the bar that holds the back, and 2 for the bar to which the table top is attached.

When all the holes are ready, check if the dowels fit well and assemble the structure. Only then place the parts on glue. After final drying, the entire product is sanded (especially the ends) and varnished.

Assembling the table

The legs are connected to the upper and lower strips (length - 410 mm each). The sidewalls are attached to each other by crossbars (length - 340 mm). A tabletop is attached to one of the ends of the structure.

The sequence of actions is the same. We try it on, mark the place for the joints, cut out holes and dowels, assemble the structure, check the corners and whether the joints are suitable, after which we apply glue one by one and assemble the sidewalls, fasten them with crossbars to each other, and install the tabletop. We additionally process the finished structure with sandpaper, and then open it with varnish.

To make the child sit comfortably, we cover the seat and back with fabric (imitation leather), after laying foam rubber or batting and securing it with a stapler. You can tighten the seat and back before assembly. Then you need to carefully make a hole in the casing and further process these places.

This is just one of the options (the simplest and most convenient) for a baby high chair. Photos will help you imagine all the possible variety of this type of furniture, made by yourself.

Thus, a children's high chair, the seating diagram of which is presented below, is a little more compact, but more difficult to implement.

There are also simply attachments to a regular chair for adults.

The simplest, most compact and convenient option- a children's high chair made of fabric. The price of such a device is quite high. But making it yourself, having a diagram at hand and an understanding of how such a thing is attached to an ordinary chair, is very simple.

Sewing a mobile baby high chair (instructions)

We will need:

  • fabric (linen, lining fabric, cotton) - about 2-3 m;
  • 2.5 m sling;
  • 3 carabiner buckles;
  • as an option - 3 m of thick and durable braid (you can sew it yourself);
  • threads, scissors, needles, sewing machine.

Pay attention to the diagram. This device consists of an attachment to a chair and a child seat.

Having placed the child in such a device, he is securely fixed with the help of wide straps to a regular adult chair. The width of this pocket depends on the width of the chair. Therefore, it is often made standard or a little wider, so that, if necessary, the child can be placed in both the home chair and the one that the grandparents have.

Two parts are cut out from fabric (not necessarily the same) and sewn together. It is better if the cotton or linen is on the inside of the product (smaller part), and the lining fabric is on the outside (larger part). If you look at the pattern, there is a fold in the upper (rectangular) part of the product. The fabric in this place is folded and attached. The resulting “bag” is put on a chair, then the child is seated and secured with straps that are either fastened with a carabiner or tied at the back. To ensure that the straps at the back do not fall off, but support the child higher under the arms, belt loops are provided. It is safe to feed a child in such a chair not only at home or away, but also in a restaurant. You can always carry the device with you.

Ideally, in a family where there is or is planned a small child, there should be both a stationary and a mobile chair. Therefore, both a father who is familiar with carpentry and a mother who knows how to sew should know how to make a chair for feeding a child.

The difficulties in caring for children are largely due to the fact that buying everything necessary can be quite a task for the family budget. Another question is whether parents manage to find exactly what they would like in stores, or whether there is actually nothing ideal among the assortment. Both reasons that prevent you from purchasing this or that product, one way or another suggest the idea that it would be nice to make it yourself. For example, a children's high chair - if dad has enough experience working with various tools, he can easily make it with his own hands.

Peculiarities

Contrary to its apparent simplicity, a DIY high chair is not such a simple task that you can complete it without any preparation. Do not start work until you have a clear understanding of what the end result should look like and what operations will need to be performed to achieve it.

Also, don't ignore calculations. Any chair must be strong enough to support its “passenger,” and a child, although not heavy, will not sit neatly on it, especially since the dimensions of such furniture are also small.

Strength requirements are relevant not only for basic materials, but also for fasteners, be they self-tapping screws, glue or grooves. In addition, the baby is constantly growing, and it makes sense to make a high chair with a reserve for at least a couple of years in advance. For all its strength, the product should be comfortable, that is, approximately correspond to the dimensions of the owner.

Also try to ensure the proper lightness of the furniture being manufactured - it should be convenient for the owner to independently move his chair to where he wants to sit at the moment.

Don't forget to stay safe. Furniture, in any case, cannot be traumatic, and children's furniture - even more so. The presence of any sharp edges is not allowed, and if the main material is wood, as happens in most cases, then it must be carefully sanded to prevent splinters from peeling off. Covering finished product varnish or paint, give preference to natural ones - children tend to put everything in their mouths and can be poisoned by the toxic coating.

Finally, remember that this chair is for a child. In addition to suitable sizes, it is desirable for a piece of furniture to also be beautiful. If complex decor is not a task for you, at least try to paint it in bright colors.

Drawings, dimensions, diagrams

Before proceeding directly to the manufacture of parts, it is necessary to draw up a drawing with dimensions - this is the only way that all components will ideally fit one another. You can use one of those ready-made options that are already posted on the World Wide Web, or draw up a diagram yourself. It is important to note here that there are drawings and instructions on the Internet that explain how to make a standard table and chair, so they are usually not suitable for those who want to create something original - for example, an elephant chair.

  • Drawing the table and chairs, which can be made in the form of a kit, do not have to strictly follow the principles of drawing: they do not have so many details that they cannot be kept in mind. The main thing for us is to make sure that all dimensions match and the parts fit perfectly together, but the methods of joining individual parts must be present in the drawing. In general, it can be presented schematically, without high precision of the drawing.
  • Think over the dimensions (or choose ready-made drawings based on them), starting from the comfort of the child. Chairs whose seat is at knee level or slightly below are considered comfortable. In the case of a highchair, it is recommended to make the seat a little higher, because the child will probably still grow. At the same time, do not overdo it: if it is difficult for the baby to climb onto the seat, then the product can be considered a failure.

  • Determining the size of the seat itself, keep in mind that the owner should fit comfortably on it, but do not make it too large - this will make the chair heavier and difficult to carry. The normal height of the backrest is approximately two-thirds or three-quarters of the owner's back; making it higher than the neck is no longer practical. When determining the thickness of future parts, rely only on the strength of the selected material and the weight of the child.

Materials

In terms of ease of processing and environmental friendliness, among materials for the manufacture of children's furniture, wood and its derivatives undoubtedly hold the palm. Therefore, you can most often find a wooden high chair. However, you cannot choose just any tree - this is also worth thinking about before starting to make it. The most popular among all types of wood is beech. It has the strength of oak, but it is easier to process and costs less. In general, it is deciduous trees that are considered priority. Among inexpensive options, birch is often chosen; linden can also be considered.

Spruce and pine are suitable for making furniture from coniferous wood, but the resin contained in any such wood is dangerous - it can stain clothes, and it can also pose a health hazard. Regardless of the specific species, choose a uniform tree, without knots or cracks, with an even texture.

The seat material may be similar to the body material, or it may be fundamentally different. In order to save money and achieve greater flexibility, the seat is also made of plywood, and even chipboard. When choosing them, give preference only to the most durable types, but remember that in any case they are inferior in durability to solid natural wood.

For increased softness, the seat can be additionally equipped with a small foam cushion covered with a fabric that is pleasant to the touch.

There is also a seating option made from plastic bottles - both whole and cut. Harmful plastic, present as garbage in any apartment and polluting environment, could get a second life, especially since its strength and durability are very high. This option is still much less common due to the difficulty of securely fastening individual parts, as well as the not very attractive appearance of the finished product.

Colors and decor

For all its practicality and convenience, the baby will definitely not like the chair if it cannot be described with the word “beautiful”. Nobody makes any special chairs for teenagers, but brightness and attractiveness are very important for younger children. Therefore, do not limit yourself to just clear varnish or discreet monochromatic solutions. A single-color color is generally acceptable only if a light or very bright shade is chosen - often red or yellow, the so-called “warm” tones.

If drawing is not alien to you, please your child with interesting design solutions. You can go the “adult” route by painting the frame one color, and the seat and back in another, or you can focus on the child’s desire for something bright and defiant. The simplest option is “rings” on the legs of the chair; any patterns and even just blots are also acceptable, provided that it looks cute and positive. Regardless of how much and what kind of paint you used, do not forget - it should not be toxic.

If you have a creative streak and a desire to complicate the task a little for the overall benefit of the matter, you can create more complex decor. Another option is to decorate the legs or back of the chair with carvings, but adults would like this solution more. But for a child, a chic solution would be decoration in the form of one or another animal. The classic version is when the back is cut out to resemble an elephant, or any other animal that is cute to a child, and then painted to look more like a “cartoon” character.

Covers can also become a unique type of decoration. In addition to their typical functions, such as simplifying the cleaning of furniture and increasing the comfort of its use, they can also decorate the back of the chair. Ideally, they should depict the child’s favorite hero, characters from popular fairy tales, or the same animals. Mom can help dad make a cover, especially if she knows how to embroider or has fabric appliqué skills. If your mother does not have such talents, you can simply alter the cover from clothes on which the necessary pictures were applied at the factory.

For the youngest children

Children of the youngest age still sit on a high chair for only one activity - eating food. Teaching a child to eat while sitting, and indeed to sit, in particular at the table, is important and necessary. However, the peculiarities of its development at this stage do not allow the use of ordinary chairs for this. The problem lies in the fact that a simple chair does not have a back with arms, and a tiny child himself will not yet be able to sit on it straightly and will simply fall.

As for children's high chairs, their sizes usually do not allow you to choose a normal table for them. In this situation, a special high chair would be an excellent solution.

Such furniture should be comfortable for both the child and his mother - for now the child cannot eat on his own, so the mother will have to feed him with a spoon. For the convenience of this operation, the chair is made at a normal height, or even a little higher - so that the mother does not bend over. The actual lifespan of such a chair is about a year, so if you have one child and the family is not planning a second one at all, you can choose not the most durable materials for manufacturing.

In terms of manufacturing, a high chair is perhaps the most complex - it has the largest number of parts. The relatively small seat is raised high above the floor, which forces the installation of additional stiffening ribs between the legs for improved stability of the structure.

Taking into account the specifics of a child of the appropriate age, both the backrest and railings are simply necessary - they must completely exclude the possibility of the baby falling. Moreover, there should be a barrier in front, although it also has another useful function - it plays the role of a countertop on which food will be placed. The space under the tabletop is left free - the baby will stick his feet there.

Cutting and assembling such a chair is quite simple. First, two identical side halves are cut out according to the drawing, which are then connected to each other by a seat, back and stiffeners using grooves, glue or self-tapping screws. Before assembly, all individual parts should be sanded to a perfectly smooth state, the finished product is varnished or painted - ready.

Models for older children

The peculiarity of high chairs for children who have finally left infancy lies in the significant variety of design options, limited only by the imagination of the creator. The backrest is still considered a mandatory attribute, but the railing is no longer there, as are the front barriers. There is no point in saving on materials in this situation - if the furniture is made with a margin in size, then the child will be able to use his high chair for many years.

The manufacturing process consists of a few simple steps:

  • Think through the design down to the smallest detail and draw up a drawing. Decide on the number of parts of the body - will it simply consist of two solid halves or of separate legs and separate supports for the seat, will the backrest base be a continuation of the rear legs or will it be attached separately, and so on. Calculate everything, including the thickness of the seat and legs, provide stiffening ribs and additional supports for the seat in advance. Provide grooves and mark places for screws.
  • If doubts about the correctness of the selected parameters still remain, try to assemble a temporary chair from cardboard according to the drawing. Unfortunately, it does not have the same strength to test the product from all sides, and it differs in thickness from wood or plywood, which also needs to be taken into account when specifying the dimensions, but you will get a visual idea of the future product.

  • Start cutting out individual parts from wood or plywood. It is recommended to start with the body. It’s good if there are a lot of identical parts in the set - then the subsequent ones can be cut out by simply tracing the finished first one. If the design allows, do not delay assembly until you have cut everything out - start as soon as you have at least two parts that need to be connected. This will help you immediately notice any design flaws, if any. Once the pieces are ready, sand them smooth.
  • When all the elements are ready, proceed to the final assembly. Do not limit yourself to one type of fastener; in particular, glue the grooves - this will significantly strengthen the product and increase its durability. Ensure that the grooves fit as deep as possible - tap the joints with a hammer to make the fastening more secure.
  • The last step is varnishing and painting.

No matter how detailed and intelligible a theoretical explanation is, it is unlikely to compare in terms of information content with a clear example, because it is better to see once than to hear a hundred times.

N and the video is one of best examples how to make a highchair with your own hands. The master talks about literally everything, including the dimensions of the parts he used, so you can even do without a drawing, simply repeating what he says. The resulting chair is quite simple in design, but easy to make. You can find many other similar videos on the Internet, but the models there are always approximately the same, but here the process is shown in great detail and clearly.
