Making homemade furniture. DIY furniture - drawings and diagrams DIY home furniture

This article will be useful not only for beginners who do not know where to start making furniture at home, but also for amateur craftsmen who want to try their hand at furniture production.

What will you need at the initial stage?

Introduction

Today, more and more construction and finishing stores have such material as chipboard in their assortment. It is sold in sheets of size 2750*1830 mm, 2440*1830 mm and thickness 16 mm, 18 mm, 25 mm.

The presence of a wide selection of hand-held power tools (jigsaws, grinders, hand-held circular saws, planes, etc.) encourages home craftsmen to make some kind of furniture with my own hands. Below we will discuss this topic.

Material selection

To make home furniture, you need to clearly determine the type and size of chipboard. Basically, the manufacture of cabinet furniture is made using chipboard thickness 16 mm. For various countertops and kitchen dies there are sheets of thickness 25 mm.

The surface finish of a chipboard sheet is of great importance. There is two options for choosing the type of chipboard:

  1. laminated sheet, called chipboard;
  2. without a laminated surface, the so-called “naked”.

The second type of chipboard is also quite usable for making furniture, since it has smooth, polished surfaces on both sides. Such a surface can be easily improved by covering it with self-adhesive film.

It is best to choose German-made film. It is thicker than its Chinese and domestic counterparts, which means it will be more difficult to damage mechanically.

The ideal coating option, of course, is veneer, but the cost of laminated chipboard will be about forty percent more expensive than “bare” chipboard.

Necessary tool

When making any furniture yourself, you need special tools, both electric and manual. A power tool will allow you to complete this work faster, and the process itself will be comfortable.

It is better to use chipboard for sawing electric jigsaw or hand-held circular saw. It is simply impossible to do such a job of cutting a large sheet of chipboard using a hand saw, since the cut will be too uneven.

Choosing for this operation jigsaw, you need to be prepared for the fact that you can’t do without chips.

If you want the end of the sawn material to be perfectly even not only along the longitudinal section, but perpendicularly even relative to the plane of the sheet, it is preferable to use electric circular.

Power tools are also required in cases where it is necessary to make rounded corners on furniture elements.

To others necessary tool For self-made furniture is screwdriver. Having such a device in your arsenal, you can easily connect together all the elements of the furniture being manufactured.

Remembering catchphrase All the masters “measure twice, cut once”, you can’t do without a ruler. To ensure that all parts of the furniture are perfectly even when sawing a sheet of chipboard, you need to use metal meter and angle.

Necessary accessories

Furniture can be assembled by connecting all the elements using wood screws or furniture screws. When using self-tapping screws or furniture screws during assembly, it is advisable to make holes in the chipboard before screwing them in so that the fasteners fit into the array easily, completely screwing into it.

It is easier to screw in self-tapping screws using screwdriver with a special cross-shaped bit. You can do this work using an ordinary screwdriver, but then it will take much more time, and the head of the screw may not fit completely into the chipboard. Screwing in furniture screws is done with a special hex key.

Furniture will be neater if the fastener caps are covered. plastic plugs. They can be matched to the color of the chipboard surface.

The ends of sawn pieces of furniture at home are most often closed furniture edge tape. It is made of plastic, and therefore can be used to cover any curved ends.

Furniture end tape comes in two types:

  1. T-shaped;
  2. U-shaped.

U-shaped end tape more popular among “homemade” ones, because For T-shaped tape it is necessary to make a groove with a special frieze to effectively secure it to the end of the chipboard, and the U-shaped one is simply put on the ends of the chipboard, while hiding chips and unevenness of hand sawing, giving the product a fairly presentable look.

There are other materials for finishing the end part of chipboard. For example, melamine edge, which is a laminated surface with a thin layer of polyethylene applied to the back side.

This end tape is glued to the end of the furniture piece using an iron (at home). When ironing the front surface of the laminated tape, the polyethylene on its back side melts and sticks to the end.

Also quite popular PVC edge, which is more wear-resistant and durable.

There are only a couple of cases when making furniture with your own hands at home is justified:

  1. or you are truly a jack of all trades, about whom they usually say “he has hands of gold,” and you have no desire to overpay for something that you can do quite well yourself;
  2. or you are a beginner who is very interested in this and who has set himself the goal of going through all the stages of making furniture yourself - in this case, of course, additional experience will not be superfluous.

For a long time, chipboard (chipboard) has been used as the basis for furniture. For those who have minimal skills in working with wood and carpentry tools, homemade furniture will provide an opportunity to significantly save the family budget. Do-it-yourself furniture made from chipboard will be exclusive and will take its rightful place in your apartment. Everything you need for work can be found in specialized stores.

To repair or assemble chipboard furniture yourself, you need a small set of materials and tools. Everything you need can be found at home, or bought for a small price.

For work you will need the following tools:

  • Small drill or screwdriver. Of course, it is better to use a small and not heavy drill to assemble furniture;
  • Circular saw, router, jigsaw. If you don’t have these tools, you can rent them;
  • Level, square, tape measure;
  • Set of hex keys, countersinks, drills;
  • Conductor.

The materials you will need are:

  • Chipboards;
  • Wax of the desired color;
  • A felt-tip pen for retouching or a marker of the desired shades;
  • Wax melter;
  • Felt fabric;
  • Staple.

With such a small set, you can both update furniture and make new ones.

Manufacturing process

Chipboard cutting is carried out independently or by turning to professionals who have necessary equipment. In addition to chipboard, when making furniture you will need fiberboard (fibreboard), natural wood lumber, fittings, and fasteners.

It is quite possible for anyone to carry out a simple update, a master class of which is offered by experienced specialists. The result will be a beautiful, completely new product, and the family budget will not suffer. The most important design details that need to be given the most attention and time are:

  • Facades - the front part of the furniture and its doors - are made of a more attractive material. DIY furniture made from chipboard should look attractive. The facade is a separate part of the furniture; it is usually made to order. There are many different types furniture facades, they differ in the material used and design;
  • The bottom and side walls of the drawers - these furniture elements, like some other parts, are easiest to make from fiberboard. Some craftsmen prefer to fasten fiberboard with a furniture stapler, but this is wrong. After some time, the staples will become loose, and then the entire structure may become warped. It is best to fasten fiberboard with self-tapping screws or nails; it is good to install self-tapping screws with special washers;
  • A tabletop is a horizontal surface where you can write and read. Most tables made at home (photos below) are made from the same chipboard. The weakest area of the countertops is the cutting of the surface. They are most often protected with a melamine edge, for this reason they begin to break in the first year. To prevent this nuisance, the edges are covered with aluminum profiles. The tabletops are fastened from below using small self-tapping screws so as not to damage the front surface.

Choosing the right fasteners and fittings is no less important than quality materials. Furniture fasteners - products necessary for connection individual parts. Basically, all elements are connected at right angles.

  1. Dowels - their installation schemes imply the use of pre-prepared holes. They are used for preliminary fastening and increasing the strength of the connection;
  2. Furniture corners are a common, but already outdated type of fastening. They don’t look very nice, they become loose after a while;
  3. Euroscrew – screws for connecting parts of furniture.

Holes are made directly on site, using a special drill capable of drilling a groove required diameter. The question of how to make furniture with your own hands requires control of the perpendicularity of the drilling direction, so as not to spoil the furniture element.

  • When connecting elements, you need to take into account the subtleties:
  • Furniture screws are screwed in using a hex key. Heads designed for a Phillips screwdriver cannot be completely screwed in;
  • The main disadvantage of this mount is that fully screwed heads remain visible. To hide them, the holes are covered with plastic plugs of a suitable color; Eccentric ties – convenient, modern method

fastenings It allows you to make a hole on the inside of a piece of furniture. To make holes the right size

, use a Forstner drill. It is not rational to buy it only for assembling hidden elements, but they are convenient for installing doors. Even a novice craftsman should have no problems with how to repaint furniture at home, and step-by-step recommendations will help you assemble new products.

Tabletop

Bookshelf Every person who loves books is faced with the need to store a library. The easiest way is to purchase a ready-made cabinet, but you can save a lot of money and make or restore furniture from chipboard yourself. The easiest way is to make a classic version of the cabinet with, able to easily fit in any room. The ideal depth for this furniture is 400 mm, general dimensions– 2000x800x400. (height width depth). Most books will easily fit on such shelves.

You need to start work by drawing up a drawing, separately depicting all the details. Then transfer the parts to chipboard. Next come cutting and other stages:

  1. Assembly must be done on a flat surface so as not to distort the structure;
  2. We connect the top of the cabinet and the side walls. You need to use a special square to ensure that the corners are even;
  3. All elements are connected using fasteners;
  4. Having installed the top of the cabinet, fasten the bottom, checking the correct connection with a square;
  5. Don’t rush to attach the back wall; it’s more convenient to install the shelves first. It is better to secure them with confirmation in several places. This will add reliability and increase the service life of the shelves;
  6. At the end, the back wall is attached;
  7. Finally, the supports are installed.

TV table

Although TV devices that can easily be mounted on the wall are now common, there are many devices that require special stands. After all, you need to find a place not only for the TV, you may want to install a home theater, a remote control, or find a shelf for a collection of discs. By making a comfortable TV stand yourself, you will not only save money, but will also be able to take into account all your desires - style, how to paint chipboard furniture with your own hands.

The most convenient dimensions for the product are 600x400x1850 mm (height - depth - width). The bedside table is placed directly on the floor, it can withstand serious loads. Making furniture of this size will allow you to easily place even a large TV, and next to it - the rest of the necessary equipment.

  1. First, the frame of the TV stand is assembled;
  2. Place marks for attaching the middle shelf, make holes and install it in place;
  3. From elements 0.12x0.45 mm, assemble frames for drawers. Then attach the plywood bottom to them, with glue or nails;
  4. Install hardware for moving drawers;
  5. Attach handles to the drawers;
  6. Prepare a place for installing the doors by milling and secure them;
  7. At the end of assembly, secure the top panel.

Computer desk

The computer, after the refrigerator and TV, is the most popular item in the house. For this reason, the table at which we work must be suitable. A computer desk is a piece of furniture with different accessories and parts that can be adjusted if necessary. In addition, a self-made version will cost much less than in a store.

When making a table, you can simplify the work and limit its design to straight lines. Additional shelves, holes for wiring, and space for the system unit can be made as you wish.

There are a huge number of designs of such tables; there are special tables used for a netbook or laptop. In small apartments, transforming tables are convenient. A narrow object will not require much space, and if necessary, it turns into a normal one computer desk, with all the necessary elements.

For independent execution it is better to choose simple model, rectangular in shape. After completing the drawing and cutting out all the parts using a circular saw or jigsaw, you can begin assembly:

  1. Holes are prepared in the central and side walls for attaching the lower shelf. After this, secure it with confirmations;
  2. The top shelf is also attached;
  3. After this, the back wall is installed. It is on the same level as upper parts central and side walls;
  4. Now you need to screw the guide elements for the retractable console under the keyboard;
  5. The table top is attached to the side walls with dowels. You cannot make through holes in the tabletop;
  6. If you plan to make shelves on top of the tabletop, they are also attached to dowels.

Cutting out the details

Safe finishing rules

  1. Chipboard needs to be sawed into pieces slowly; a saw with a fine tooth is better for this - this way you will get an even cutting line. You need to drill smoothly, using only sharp drill and turning on high speed drill. It is necessary to control the perpendicularity of the drill's entry into the material, otherwise you can chip in a noticeable place. To remove irregularities, a rasp and a plane are needed; the tool is moved from the outside of the workpiece to the inside. It is important to prevent fibers from being pulled out - this will ensure a neat cut of the part;
  2. Laminated chipboard does not need additional processing, you just need to smooth the edge. The rest of the surface is painted, varnished or a special film is glued. Adhesive tape is used to protect the surface from splitting when sawing. If you are cutting by hand, the saw must be positioned at an angle. The edge of a part covered with teeth is an unpleasant sight, especially noticeable on fiberboard boards white. Saw the material slowly; excess haste will cause an unsightly joint between furniture elements;
  3. Dull or slowly rotating drills, in most cases, break out the edges of the hole. Only with the help of a sharp and high-quality drill can you make a smooth hole. If the cut is good, no additional processing will be required. When working, a circular saw leaves irregularities on the edge, which are removed with a plane. It is carefully guided along the edge, towards the inside, so that the edge becomes neat. For laminated boards, do not use a rasp;
  4. You can finish the surface of furniture made of fiberboard in 2 ways - either paint furniture made of chipboard or veneer it decorative material or varnish;
  5. Often the cladding is carried out with a special film, which has an adhesive coating on one side, which simplifies the finishing of furniture. It is unusually thin, for this reason the surface must be well sanded before gluing. You can stick laminated plastic, it is stronger and noticeably thicker. It is glued with a special glue; this coating makes chipboard furniture beautiful and at the same time protects the surface from external influences;
  6. Wood products are usually varnished; particle boards are varnished very rarely, only if it is necessary to “ennoble” the unattractive appearance of an ordinary board. Before varnishing, the surface must be leveled with putty. Even after factory processing (without lamination) it needs leveling. The smallest defects will be visible under the varnish film, and this greatly worsens appearance furniture. After filling the chipboard, you should get a very smooth surface, and one coat of varnish should be enough for it. If after varnishing defects are noticeable, you will need to sand the surface again with sandpaper and varnish again;
  7. The layer of protective varnish should be thick, it prevents harmful fumes. You need to pay attention to the joints - you need to make them as tight as possible. Wallpaper and fabric are not suitable for finishing chipboard; these are porous materials that are not capable of serving as protection. Carpet can also allow harmful substances to pass through;
  8. The edges of the fiberboard slab can be trimmed with thin wooden strips. The wood is selected in a suitable color; the material must be in harmony with the coating of the piece of furniture. When you have glued the required number of wood planks, you need to varnish them, like the entire surface, or completely repaint the furniture. Even planks 5 mm thick will protect the edges of the slab well. If you glue a wide strip, it will prevent the tabletop from sagging.

Drawings and diagrams

A furniture business is a business that:

— does not require cash investments;
— has profitability from 80 to 300%;
- the product of which is used by all civilized people of the earth;
— can exist and develop regardless of the technical equipment of your future enterprise;
- will never end;
— every year it develops more and more.

A business that people are already doing and quite successfully... A business that even a full-time student can start.

The furniture business can be dusty, heavy, and problematic, or it can be simple, profitable and interesting. It all depends on which approach to choose and how to do it.

If you are greedy, you will get a lot of work, if you are not greedy, you will earn good and quick money.

I'll tell you about both approaches, but I'll explain more about the latter approach.

It's simple. Let's look at a specific example of making the most complex type of furniture - a kitchen. Why is the kitchen the most difficult type? Because the kitchen package includes the most different fittings and materials, this is the first thing, and the second is that all the details are small, and even the smallest defects immediately catch the eye.

Let us take this expensive kitchen as a basis:

What can you say about her? Large expensive kitchen... Made from the most modern materials. It is relatively expensive, 48,000 rubles excluding household appliances, stove, oven and microwave oven. Honestly, its price in the store will be higher by 15 thousand for sure.

I made this kitchen myself, with my own hands. No worse than in the showrooms of “Italian” furniture. The facade is made of framed MDF and has a built-in household appliances, backlight, deep drawers, roof rails, long handles. The boxes are made of high-quality German laminated chipboard and covered with a 2mm PVC edge. All fittings installed in the kitchen are German, from Hettish. The kitchen is no worse than its Western counterparts, either in quality or price.

Can you make such a kitchen yourself? No? What's the difficulty? Don't know how to do this? Well, okay, I'll try to convince you otherwise.

Take another close look at this kitchen. Would you be able to assemble it yourself, with your own hands, if you were given everything disassembled, with a clear sketch of each individual cabinet or bedside table and all the necessary bolts and nuts attached to this “designer”?

Have you thought about it? What if they gave you, say, 24,000 rubles for collecting it?

And on top of that for installation is 8% percent of the total cost, which equals 4,000 rubles?

Would it be worth it to work with your hands for 5-7 days? Do you think no one will give that much for assembling a kitchen? They will! You just need to think about it a little. Of course, if you buy such a kitchen in a store, you will receive no more than 3% of the cost for assembly, and if you “make it” yourself, you will receive no less than 50% of its cost...

Your task is to find everything and order it in certain sizes or buy it.

That is, at the first stage, you need to make clear documentation for the product, in which you will have to write down for yourself all the materials and accessories necessary for the manufacture of the kitchen and calculate all the possible costs of making the order.

What does the kitchen consist of?

And now a little more about what a kitchen consists of and what your job is to make it.

1. Box made of laminated chipboard

Every piece of furniture has a box made from laminated chipboard. Whatever you are making - a kitchen, a hallway, a children's room or whatever, you need to buy laminated chipboard, saw it and glue the edges.

Where they sell laminated chipboard, they always provide services for sawing the material and it costs no more than 50 rubles per 1 square meter.

There you can also ask to glue the edge - this service costs from 6 rubles per meter (price does not include the cost of the edge). You can glue the edge yourself - then it will cost 1.5-20 rubles per linear meter.

This kitchen required 18 sq.m. of material. (3 sheets measuring 3500*1750 mm and edges no more than 100 meters).

— sawing the material will cost you 18 sq.m.* 55 rubles = 990 rubles;
— pasting of edges 100 m. * 6 rubles = 600 rubles.

We bought the material at a regular warehouse. If you go for the material yourself, it will cost you the same as for other specialized furniture workshops, maybe 5% more than for them. They may have a discount like regular customers...

That is, you are on an equal footing with furniture companies. The only difference is that furniture companies cut materials in their production, and you take ready-made parts by paying for sawing and pasting. Everything is ordered, no manual work!!!

Facades are also made in factories or specialized workshops. All furniture makers order them. There are few people who buy a machine worth 2 thousand euros and fill a warehouse with multi-colored raw materials in order to make facades for their production.

So you are again on an equal footing with any furniture company. Both you and other furniture makers will never make them yourself - only order them.

3. Table top

Countertops are also made in huge factories, of which there are only 5 in Russia. They have representative offices in every city. So when buying countertops you are on an equal footing with everyone else.

The fact is that all tabletops are sold in sheets of three meters, and its width is standard version equal to 60 cm. But you can order any other size. You can also choose any color, there are more than 50 of them.

The only problem is sawing it straight to the required size. This problem can be solved at the same place where the chipboard will be cut for you. It costs 20 rubles per cut to cut the tabletop to the required size.

4. Accessories

The fittings include: handles, hinges, edges, hinges, screws, couplers, guides, chrome pipes, dryers, etc.

Accessories are sold in any quantity and in any quantity. You just need to find a point where they sell it.

You can buy anything, if it is not in stock, it will be delivered to order. You will have access to all the same fittings as furniture makers. They also buy everything from a specialized store that sells furniture fittings.

Glass is cut in glass workshops to your size. We submitted an application indicating the glass name and size, and received the finished glass. Not difficult, right? Everyone knows this. But not everyone knows about what I listed above...

6. Lamps

I think that each of you has seen departments selling different lamps. They also sell furniture lamps. All furniture makers use these departments.

I think you've come across departments selling various sinks. They probably even asked themselves the question: “Who needs them, who buys them?” In most cases, furniture makers buy.

8. Technique

Ovens, countertops, and hoods are most often purchased at Eldorado or other stores selling household appliances.

The beauty of buying at Eldorado is that the owner of the future furniture can choose the equipment that he likes best, regardless of the price, and of course take out a loan for it, which will make the furniture more affordable. And it’s cheaper for him, and you have less problems with the purchase.

As for installation, there are special standards for built-in equipment. It makes no difference who the manufacturer is - the external, installation dimensions will always be the same. And such equipment is always accompanied by detailed instructions for installation and preliminary calculation of pedestals.

What then comes out of all this?

What you need to assemble furniture

All you need is to drill holes for the Euro screed to assemble the furniture, install all the necessary fittings, handles, hinges, and guides.

Don’t think that this is a great complexity, it’s all done quickly and simply (literally - with your own hands). All modern fittings today meet the following rules - quick, easy installation, reliability, excellent regulation.

Today, many factories have appeared for the production of furniture accessories and they are all in competition for the consumer, and the consumer is none other than the furniture manufacturer. What does a furniture manufacturer need first? So that the fittings do not cause trouble during installation and are reliable, so as not to spoil his reputation... He won’t buy another... That’s why they make them now differently than in Soviet times...

The fittings are attached easily and quickly. Speed and quality are the keys to a successful business.

Let's say:

- to install hinges on the facade, install the facade itself and adjust it, without preliminary preparation for drilling holes, you need to spend 2-3 minutes;
— to screw the handle, you need to spend 1 minute (drill two holes and tighten the screws);
- mark and drill holes, assemble the cabinet - 10-15 minutes;
- drill a hole for the lamps and insert the lamp - 1-2 minutes;
- cut a hole in the countertop for the sink - 15 minutes (put the sink down, trace the outline with a pencil, cut a hole with a jigsaw and attach it to special snap fasteners.);
- saw off the required piece of chrome pipe with a hacksaw - 2-3 minutes;
- secure the chrome pipe using flanges - 3-5 minutes.

Well, everything like that... All this can be done in any garage, on the balcony, or even locally in the apartment.

Let's say, in order to assemble the kitchen that you saw above, you need to spend a maximum of 5-7 days on everything (or sacrifice three days off) - from the delivery of materials to the installation of the finished product.

Assembling furniture yourself at home is a labor-intensive task, but at the same time it is an excellent help for saving the family budget, as well as an opportunity to demonstrate an original design approach and aesthetic flair. Making cabinet furniture with your own hands is not very common, but it brings noticeable benefits and moral satisfaction. The created product can be very stylish and advantageously emphasize the overall interior design.

Select fasteners after you have decided on the base material.

In order to cope with this not very simple but fascinating task yourself, you must have at least initial skills in working with the tool and be attentive and accurate. To create cabinet furniture, you can choose inexpensive parts or use materials available in the house.

The created product can be very stylish and advantageously emphasize the overall interior design.

To assemble a cabinet or chest of drawers, you must first calculate the parameters of the future product. To make cabinet furniture with your own hands, the first thing you need to do is make a drawing with the dimensions of all the parts.

Before making furniture, prepare a drawing of the future product.

You also need to determine what material you will use during assembly. Depending on this, fasteners, tools and auxiliary arsenal (sandpaper, etc.) are selected.

You also need to determine what material you will use during assembly.

Wood as a material can be “capricious”; it is important to choose high-quality boards with a good, even texture, dried and processed. Birch, poplar, maple, aspen and other hardwoods are suitable. Conifers need special conditions, so pine or spruce must be selected in combination with some other variety. Try not to select layered rocks so that the base does not split during processing.

When making cabinet furniture, pay attention to the fact that laminated chipboard may crumble during insertion of fasteners.

Do-it-yourself cabinet furniture can be made of chipboard, MDF or laminated chipboard (the latter option is the most common). These materials are processed differently.

The material requires accuracy and precision in outlines and actions.

All details of the future cabinet must be carefully checked against the drawings and carefully adjusted to the intended dimensions.

Wood as a material can be “capricious”; it is important to choose high-quality boards with a good, even texture, dried and processed.

A specialized store will help you make adjustments (trimming). This can also be done using a ruler, pencil and a wood saw at home.

If desired, you can improve the appearance with original inserts.

Chipboard panels must be coated with a protective compound - this will reduce the risk of evaporation of resinous substances. Other materials do not require this approach.

How to work with laminated chipboard - the main material for cabinet furniture?

Material such as laminated chipboard is quite actively used in the manufacture of furniture. Laminated chipboard has a number of undeniable advantages over chipboard:

  • holds fasteners better;
  • inhibits the evaporation of formaldehyde;
  • looks aesthetically pleasing;
  • You can choose an interesting texture and color.

Do-it-yourself cabinet furniture requires the ability to process the material, for example, to clean and cover the cuts with an edge that matches the overall surface (this must be done to avoid evaporation of the adhesive composition of the chipboard. It must also be remembered that when cutting to size, chips and cracks of the laminated part are possible. For assembly cabinet furniture made from laminated chipboard will require care, attentiveness and accuracy.

The panels should be coated before assembly, not after, to avoid smudges.

Furniture made from laminated chipboard is not always appropriate for a child's room, especially if the room is small, poorly ventilated or located on the sunny side, and the base itself is not of very high quality. Resins and chemical compounds can evaporate quickly and create an unfavorable atmosphere. This also applies to chipboard. It is better to prefer solid wood and plywood.

What tools are needed?

The tools available in the house are suitable for assembling cabinet furniture:

  • screwdrivers;
  • screwdrivers;
  • Sander;
  • jigsaw;
  • wood hacksaw;
  • ruler;
  • simple pencil.

Sandpaper is suitable as a material for cleaning surfaces. In order to measure the elements correctly, it is necessary to do this not on the floor, but on a table, preferably a carpenter's table or something similar. Stools can be used as supports when cutting off extra centimeters from the board.

To assemble a cabinet or chest of drawers, you must first calculate the parameters of the future product.

Preparation before assembly

The selected material - chipboard, chipboard or solid wood panels - must be properly processed. Preparing the parts of a cabinet or chest of drawers involves leveling the surfaces, if it is not a laminated base, as well as cleaning them from roughness and burrs. The cut edges of the chipboard can simply be sanded and covered with a matching laminated edge.

Spot lighting is also a practical addition.

Any material that you are going to use must be of high quality and well dried so that after production the product does not create dangerous chemical fumes in the room.

Before assembling cabinet furniture, you need to carefully measure the area where the structure will be installed. For a cabinet with doors, you need to leave a little free space so that the doors can open without the possibility of friction against the walls.

You can use a power tool in your work, which simplifies the attachment of a particular part to the body.

Repeated parts of the future product must be symmetrical to each other, otherwise misalignment is likely.

Select fasteners after you have decided on the base material. Try to purchase reliable connecting parts. They should be purchased with a reserve so that if they fail, they can be easily restored.

Main assembly steps

Before making furniture, prepare a drawing of the future product. It is necessary to once again check the dimensions of the cabinet schematically marked on paper with the proportions of the prepared parts.

  1. Mark the extra centimeters of the laminated chipboard panels using a simple pencil, saw off along the lines with a wood hacksaw, clean the edges and cover them with an edge.
  2. Attach the side, bottom and top panels to the rear panel using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws.
  3. Before hanging the doors, mark the locations for the hinges. If the sashes are heavy, increase the number of fasteners, otherwise over time the panels may warp under their own weight. The distance from the edge to the bottom and top loops should not be less than 12-13 cm.
  4. Fasten the hinges and check the operation of the doors. They should fit tightly, without gaps or displacements. Don't forget to embed the mini-lock.
  5. For cabinet with sliding doors you should select a roller mechanism that will be located at the top and bottom of the panels. Most often, aluminum elements are used for this.
  6. If legs are intended, then they need to be made before hanging the doors. After assembling cabinet furniture with your own hands is completed, check the stability of the structure, how level the cabinet is and whether it “sinks” to one side or another.
  7. Using self-tapping screws and strips, make supports for the shelves. The latter are adjusted to size after assembling the cabinet body. Special holders are sold for glass shelves that will not damage the base.
  8. It is better to equip drawers (if any) with guides, then they will slide out easily and freely, without the possibility of warping and getting stuck.

Furniture fittings

The choice of fittings for cabinet furniture is a moment no less important than the assembly itself.

Cabinet hinges Poorly selected loops can negate the results of your efforts.
Hinge mechanism with four hinges Today this detail is being used more and more often. Adjustment is carried out both at the fastening stage and after completion of the installation work.
Drawer guides You can take roller or ball ones.
Handles for drawer lids and cabinet doors They need to be matched to each other. They may differ in style - it is important to adhere to a single design for the facade or interior content. For children's cabinets or chests of drawers, it is recommended to choose streamlined handles so that the child does not get hurt while moving or playing.

Any material you are going to use must be of high quality and well dried.

Furniture finishing

If desired, you can improve the appearance with original inserts. These can be mirror panels, dividers, various patterns or stencils, or ornaments. Spot lighting is also a practical addition. In addition, it looks quite stylish, especially if there are glass or frosted inserts.

When installing furniture, make sure that it is not exposed to direct sunlight.

When using natural wood, it is recommended to coat it with varnish. Finding the right shade is not difficult. To fix, apply the coating two or three times, then the surface will look smooth and even. Drying time is required after each coat is applied. This will make the surface resistant to abrasion and fading. The panels should be coated before assembly, not after, to avoid smudges.

The popular design with craquelure varnish makes the facade of the cabinet look original and expensive.

With the help of decoration, you can not only add style to a new piece of furniture, but also elevate an old product.

Advice: When installing furniture, make sure that direct sunlight does not fall on it. This will avoid fading of surfaces and drying out of the wooden base.

To create cabinet furniture, you can choose inexpensive parts or use materials available in the house.
