A country building called a "canopy" is a structure external to the house, made in the form of a roof of one form or another, equipped with a number of vertical supports. The purpose of this building object (related, by the way, to the class of small architectural forms) is to protect a limited recreation area from the effects of a number of climatic factors (sunlight, rain and snow, wind and dust). All known designs of canopies are usually divided into the following main types:

Free-standing or attached canopies adjacent to the outer wall of the building and erected over a balcony, porch or entrance.
Functional canopies that act as a protective or enclosing structure and are distinguished by their ergonomics and simplicity.
Decorative canopies, designed in the form of an original artistic composition and used to decorate the general ensemble of summer cottages and the landscape surrounding them.

According to the shape of the slope, canopies of known structures are divided into straight, inclined (gable or single-sided) and hinged structures of relief shape (arched, arc-shaped, pyramidal, domed, and the like).

In addition, sheds can differ in the class of materials used for their manufacture (metal, stone, wood, mixed), in their functional purpose, as well as in size and location.

Before starting installation work, it is necessary to prepare a sketch of the future canopy and decide on its style, taking into account the design of the main buildings of the summer cottage. When choosing a material for construction, we advise you to pay attention to polycarbonate, the flexibility and plasticity of which allow you to build canopies in the form of original three-dimensional structures.

At the same time, one should not forget that your canopy must be strong enough and could successfully withstand both wind and possible snow loads. This circumstance should be taken into account when choosing the angle of inclination of the canopy roof structure and when calculating the cross section of its supporting supports.

With an increase in the steepness and size of the slope, the wind loads on it will also increase, which must be taken into account even at the initial stage of designing the structure. When calculating wind loads and elements of the entire structure as a whole, we recommend that you be guided by the provisions of SNiP 2.01.07-85.

In this article, we will consider a currently widespread design, which is a frame made of a selected material with a polycarbonate hinged coating. To make it, you will need the following materials and tools:

Circular saw with abrasive wheel (fine teeth).
Electric drill with a set of standard drills.
Aluminum and perforated tape, as well as a finished profile for a polycarbonate slope.
Screwdriver, self-tapping screws, thermal washers and other consumables.
Detachable or one-piece polycarbonate profile.

After preparing the sketch, you need to decide on the material of the bearing supports, which can be selected from the following list:

reinforced pipe;
wooden beam;
metal corner;
brick posts.

When deciding how to properly make a canopy, you should start with marking the territory for the future structure and preparing the electrical wiring laid in a protective sleeve in the area where the canopy is located.

As a base for load-bearing elements (racks), you can use any of the known building support structures from the following list:

brick columns;
metal pipes with concrete pouring;
concrete monolithic supports, etc.

It is necessary to provide protective measures to extend the life of all elements of your structure. Metal frames must necessarily have a layer of anti-corrosion coating, and wooden elements must be treated with a special antiseptic.

When arranging load-bearing support structures for polycarbonate profiles, you can use the old frames that you have left, for example, from a dismantled greenhouse.

Next, a roofing crate is mounted, the power of which depends on the workload on it, determined by the total area of the hinged covering. The roofing itself is mounted in compliance with known technological standards, corresponding to the type of roof you have chosen.

The last step in the construction of the visor will be the installation of polycarbonate on the fabricated frame. This work is also quite simple.

When installing polycarbonate between sheets, gaps of up to 5 mm should be left. This is necessary for the free movement of the expansion of the material when the temperature changes. As a result, you will prevent possible deformation of the finish.

For fasteners, ordinary self-tapping screws with thermal washers are used. You can also use special profiles that securely fix the material. The choice of self-tapping screws depends entirely on what the frame is made of - wood or metal. Consider the fact that polycarbonate should not be fixed tightly.

The ends of the material must be closed. For this, a special plastic profile is used. It will prevent dust from getting inside the sheet and the formation of condensate, which would make the polycarbonate lose its attractiveness.

During the installation process, do not rush to remove the protective film. It is better to remove it after the work is completed.

One of the simplest designs, which is mainly chosen by lovers of making homemade products, is a shed canopy. The installation process is as follows:

If the canopy is large, then you will need to install several support pillars. To do this, you can use a profile pipe 40 × 60 mm. The step between the supports should be 1000 mm.

The supports are concreted in pits 0.5 m deep. After that, you can start making a canopy.

You mount the crossbars to the racks, for this it is better to use welding.

In order for the canopy to have a slight slope, the extreme pillars of the support must have a lower height.

After the construction of the frame, it must be primed and painted, and all welds must first be cleaned with a grinder.

At the end, the corrugated board is installed.

Fastening of corrugated board

Washers and rubber gaskets should be used for fastening. To ensure that the screws are evenly distributed over the surface of the canopy, first fasten the sheet in the corners. After that, the screws are twisted along the entire length of the canopy.

If the length of the visor-canopy is relatively large and you need to install several sheets of corrugated board, then you need to do this with an overlap.
