To provide rural residents with wireless Internet access, Rostelecom uses special switches and high-power access points (with an antenna for circular coverage), which are connected to the World Wide Web using a fiber optic cable.

After installing the necessary equipment, anyone who wishes to use the services of Rostelecom in rural areas will simply need to submit a standard application for Internet connection with the selected payment rate.

Unfortunately, the UCN program does not include settlements that slightly do not correspond to the established framework in terms of population. As a result, even larger rural facilities are still left without high-speed Internet from Rostelecom, without any prospects in this regard.

Registering a Rostelecom Wi-Fi network in the village

To use Rostelecom, 3 access points have been created in the village:

RT Free

Provides the opportunity to visit more than 2,000 government sites for free (their full list is presented on the official website of the provider).

RT Open

It is used by new customers to complete the registration procedure in their Rostelecom personal account.

RTWi-Fi

Access to the third point is opened only after the subscriber has registered on the operator's website, and also connected and paid for the desired service in accordance with the selected tariff. Using RTWi-Fi, the user can use all public Internet resources at speeds up to 10 Mbps.

To register in a village Wi-Fi network from Rostelecom, you will need to complete the following steps:

  1. Connect to the RTOpen point (no password required).

  3. Go to the "Personal Account" section.
  4. Click "Registration".
  5. Fill in the fields of the opened form:

    • Date of Birth;

    • contact details (phone, e-mail).

The phone number specified in the form should receive an SMS message with a verification code, which will need to be specified to complete the registration.

Next, you will need to re-open Rostelecom's personal account through the same access point (RTOpen) and log in to it using the login and password that were specified during the registration procedure. After logging in, you will need to:

  1. Open the "Universal Communication Service (Wi-Fi)" section.
  2. Please enter your phone number again.
  3. Read the terms of the contract.
  4. Confirm acceptance of the proposed connection conditions by ticking the appropriate box.
  5. Click "Connect Service".

On the page that opens after that, the password and login required to connect to RTWi-Fi will be indicated. The same information will be sent to the cellular user in the form of an SMS message.

Connecting to Wi-Fi Rostelecom in rural areas

It must be taken into account that in areas where the service is still being tested, communication errors occur with a certain frequency. This may take several weeks until all technical work is completed to connect Rostelecom Wi-Fi internet in rural areas.

  2. Select the option to add a new network and indicate that manual network creation is the preferred method.
  3. Correctly fill in all required fields:
    • network name: RTWiFi;
    • security type: WPA2-Enterprise;
    • encryption type: AES;
    • other items: leave unchanged.
  4. Click "Next" and on the new page select the item regarding changing the connection settings.
  5. Open the "Security" tab.
  6. In the column about the network authentication method, specify "Microsoft: Secure EAP (PEAP)".
  7. Click the "Settings" section, and in the window that opens after that, click "Configure".
  8. Uncheck the box "Automatically use a Windows login and password".
  9. Click OK.
  10. Go to advanced settings.
  11. In the item for specifying the authentication mode, select "User authentication" from the list.
  12. Click the "Save credentials" button and enter the password and login required to connect to the RTWiFi network.
  13. Click "OK" and close all unnecessary windows.

At the same time, I would not say that we have some kind of “cool” village, 30 km to the nearest town, Talitsa. And to the large city of Tyumen all 100, but it is in another area.

And of course, such options will not be in any village. The best you can count on is mobile internet. Well, if there is EDGE, it's just great if 3G! Therefore, when choosing a house, stock up on a smartphone and SIM cards from different operators to check the availability and strength of the mobile Internet signal. Find out where the base station is. You can find out on the website of the mobile operator. There is a coverage map. Find your village, look at the circle of coverage that covers your village, somewhere in the center of this circle there is a base station.

If there is no cellular communication or wired Internet in the village in question, then satellite Internet will be the only option. But this is a very, very expensive option. For a more or less comfortable opportunity to use the Internet via satellite, you will have to pay tens of thousands of rubles every month. That is why we did not consider options for distant villages without the possibility of connecting the available Internet.

How to strengthen 3G Internet? How to upgrade EDGE to 3G?

In our house, the only available option was mobile Internet. Even when we were just choosing a house, I checked the level of access in the house and on the site by two different operators (MTS and Megafon). Both showed different signal levels in different places, but mostly edge. I checked with a tablet - the pages opened, that was enough at that time. In the future, I planned to improve the signal with an external antenna.

To date, there are many options for external antennas, but antennas with a special modem placement block are suitable for use with any 3G / 4G modem. This block contains a regular usb modem. The unit is connected to the antenna with a coaxial wire and transmits the signal from the antenna to the modem using two plates located inside the case.

Such a kit can be found in online stores, or in specialized stores selling antennas (satellite, etc.). I was lucky - there was such a store in Talitsa and they had a Remo Connect Street kit, which we purchased.

The antenna is installed outdoors. The first step for the antenna is to find a point with a confident, good reception and find out the direction to the base station. How to find out in which direction the base station I already wrote above, but how to determine the reception level? I came up with a simple way. The speedtest program was installed on the phone. I approached the point, waited a minute, watched the terminal indication (3G, EDGE or no signal). If there was a signal with support, then I ran speedtest and checked the download speed.

Using this simple method, I climbed the whole house and found a point under the roof with quite confident 3G reception even without antenna amplification. Speedtest showed 2-3 Mbps, which was more than enough for my tasks! Then everything is simple. I hung the antenna at this place and directed it approximately towards the base station.

By the way, if you didn’t look at the direction of the base station in advance or didn’t recognize it, then you can connect the modem installed in the antenna unit to the computer and run the 3G modem program from the operator to watch the signal level.

After all the measures taken, we received a stable 3G Internet with a speed of up to 10 Mbps at night, and 4-5 Mbps during the day. This is enough for work, as well as video communication with relatives, watching youtube, etc. The only disadvantage of this solution is an expensive tariff and a limit on daily traffic of 30GB per month. Also, the signal level decreases when the base station is overloaded. But, apart from fiber, 3G and 4G connection is a great way to get an unlimited rate for fast internet outside the city. But this happens only when you are in close proximity to the base station, and nothing interferes with the passage of the signal. In other cases, you can’t do without “finishing” the modem.

To increase the signal strength, you will need a standard set of equipment. Internet equipment in the country is the same for both 3G and 4G: this is a modem for receiving a signal, a Wi-Fi router for its free wireless distribution inside the house, an antenna (as in the case of a modem, when buying, be sure to specify what frequency it is calculated), power supply or POE adapter and cables for connection and data transfer; adapters. A simple circuit, it would seem, but you can mount all this electronics in different ways.

For example, a modem with a router (or a router separately) can be installed in a house or in an attic, regardless of the antenna. This allows you to protect them from temperature extremes, and it is more convenient to organize power from the outlet. But in this case, both the modem and the router will be connected to the antenna with a coaxial cable. And it has length restrictions - no more than 12 meters (when using a thick 8D-FB cable), otherwise the signal will begin to fade, and the Internet speed will drop. With a thinner cable, signal loss is even more noticeable, and a thick cable is not very convenient to mount.

The best option is when there is no coaxial cable at all (only pigtails in the antenna), and the modem itself is installed in the antenna housing in a thermal housing and connected by pigtails to the vibrator printed circuit board. There are two pigtails, since the LTE antenna operates in the MIMO standard and has two carrier signals in different polarizations, which gives excellent propagation to the radio signal. This option eliminates cable losses and gives maximum gain. An ordinary USB wire of 7-10 meters or even a UTP cable of 30-100 meters comes out of the antenna (there must also be a router in the antenna), and all this is powered by the most common POE adapter.

The most powerful way to amplify is a satellite dish, and the antenna as a converter, you can assemble everything yourself. As an antenna feed, make a regular biquad, a 75 ohm cable, an adapter and a modem with a connector. It is possible without a connector, but you will need to make a special adapter (roughly speaking, wrap the modem around the end of the cable). I've been using it for 5 years now. Before the tower with the Internet, more than 25 km, I did not catch 3G without an antenna, it catches all the sticks with it.

Using various amplification schemes, you can get a decent Internet signal at a distance from the base station up to 15-25 km.

If inside the house the “power” of one Wi-Fi router is not enough, then you can organize several Internet access points in the cottage. The scheme is the same - an additional router, wire.

  • The higher you raise the antenna, the less “noise” there will be during signal transmission, which means better reception. It is important to direct the antenna towards the base station as accurately as possible. Rotating it, you need to "catch" the direction with the best RSSI (received signal power level).
  • It makes no sense to buy an antenna with a very high gain - an indicator of 11-18 dB is quite enough.
  • Having caught the optimal direction and frequency of the network, remember it and put it in priority in the modem settings (if allowed). Otherwise, then it will begin to "jump" in frequencies in search of a signal.
  • If you do use a coaxial cable to connect equipment, then it should be as short as possible.

By the way, if you don’t want to bother with amplifier antennas, and the Wi-Fi signal from the router is too weak in some areas of the house, some experts advise installing additional routers there in repeater mode. Reflecting the main signal, they amplify it and transmit it further to the addressee (in the manner of electrical substations). But this solution has its downsides: routers configured for different modes can conflict with each other, and back and forth signal transmission slows it down and prevents it from working quickly. Repeaters for 4G are not recommended at all because of their high power, which can even disable the base station.

We do not consider wireless Internet by the type of "Wi-Fi bridge", as well as the 4G signal of the WiMAX standard and other types of cellular connections that have not yet received sufficient distribution, in this article.

This connection option is suitable even for those who are in areas inaccessible to the frequencies of cellular operators. Satellite signals cover a large (and some and all) territory of the country. The main condition is that there are no obstacles in the path of the signal from the antenna, such as the roof of a house or the tops of trees.

There are two types of satellite Internet - one-way and two-way. The first of them is cheaper, but slower and more unreliable. His era, having lasted for a short time, ends, as well as the era of ADSL connections. The second option is more modern, but also more expensive: the cost of the kit, together with the installation, reaches 30-35 thousand rubles. If you wish, you can try to assemble the kit yourself - the main thing is not to make a mistake with the choice of devices. Tariffs in both cases are limited, when the limit value is reached, the speed either drops sharply, or you have to pay extra for additional gigabytes. In principle, there are unlimited VIP tariffs for two-way Internet providers, but their price is exorbitant - from 8 thousand rubles a month. The set of equipment for both types is similar - a transceiver, an antenna, a modem and a converter for converting a satellite signal, cables, connectors. A Wi-Fi router is also useful for “wiring” the Internet around the house.

What is the difference between the two types of satellite connection

One-way Internet was actively offered by satellite TV operators several years ago. But their idea did not receive large-scale development. In this type of connection, the signal from the satellite goes only towards the subscriber. This is logical, since the bulk of home Internet traffic is always incoming data (video, pictures, sound). The outgoing signal (what is not downloaded, but sent to the network) is many times less. Therefore, it was supposed to be launched through a simpler and cheaper channel: wired or mobile. This is the main disadvantage of one-way Internet. Due to the complexity of signal transcoding and the instability of cellular communications, the speed and quality of the signal left much to be desired. Such a network is sensitive to weather changes and electromagnetic radiation.

Two-way Internet is designed to eliminate these shortcomings - the satellite signal here goes both ways. True, this leads to its disadvantages. The so-called ping, or the time it takes for a signal to “leave and return,” lasts longer here than in conventional networks: about 8-9 milliseconds. Due to high ping, the subscriber may experience problems in situations that require signal continuity (Skype video conversation or online network game). This type of satellite Internet is less sensitive to atmospheric interference than its one-way counterpart, but thunderstorms and sticky snow will still degrade the transmission quality. The value of the tariff depends on the speed (on average, 6-8 Mb / s) and the volume of monthly traffic, but it is in the range of 1.2-5 thousand rubles. Two-way satellite Internet in the country is preferable in areas of weak satellite signal.

To summarize: if you have the opportunity, then it is worth connecting fiber optics to the house. If this type of connection is not yet available for your region, you can connect wireless 3G or 4G Internet with an amplifier. In the same areas where the cellular signal is too weak (or if you have extra money), two-way satellite Internet is great.
