— Before starting my story, I would like to thank the editors for the idea of ​​a wonderful competition. My husband and I followed the previous season closely, paying attention to both various ideas, and the feedback of those who have already had experience using these ideas in life. And so we also decided to repair.

Our kitchen is 3.1 × 2.4 meters - a little more than 7 sq.m. Very little. It is clear that with such initial conditions there is not the slightest sense in organizing Versailles.

Among the main requirements that we made for the future kitchen were the following: functionality (proper placement of household appliances, organization of the working area), the preservation of a large (130 × 90 cm) dining table and chairs, as well as a refrigerator, which we purchased much earlier, and Finally, the use of materials that can be easily kept clean.

It should be noted that we began to make repairs almost spontaneously and were somewhat limited in time. To purchase finishing materials we could set aside only one day, or more precisely, 3-4 hours after work until the store closed.

FROM colors decided quickly. As I already wrote, there was a great desire to leave the dining group, which, in addition to the large table, includes orange chairs with backs. So it was immediately possible to assert with certainty that the facades of the kitchen set would also be orange. And so it happened.

Considering that the kitchen window faces east, which is why the kitchen sees the sun only in the early morning, this arrangement suited us perfectly. The floor and walls in this case should be light (light gray, for example) and without any "flashy" patterns.

The hardest part was choosing the tiles for the floor and backsplash. I wish it was a set. Some of the options we liked turned out to be in a single copy at the stand. Another part, upon closer examination, evoked bleak pictures of the future, in which I, armed with brushes, cleaning products and, probably, in a hazmat suit, try to remove traces of grease from them.

Our friend, whose hands made the repair, as if jokingly drew my attention to the stand with porcelain stoneware. Yes, I know: it is usually placed on the floor. But I ran my hand over it and realized: this is what we need. And its dimensions are ideal - 60 × 60 cm - just the height of the apron, and the surface is smooth, and the color suits. The choice of other materials went much faster.

An important task was to correctly make electrical wiring. When I say “smartly”, I mean the need to provide for the correct number and location of sockets, since extension cords dangling underfoot are already tired. Our friend who was doing the renovation suggested that we power the outlet for the refrigerator to a separate toggle switch in the electrical panel. So now, when we leave the city, we can turn off the power to everything in the apartment, except for the refrigerator.

We contacted the company. Together with the designer, we spent more than one hour to take into account all the nuances to the maximum. The only question was the location of the refrigerator. Considering that the dining group actually occupies the entire wall, he could only sit near the window. We did not consider the option near the entrance at all, since along with a narrow corridor and a ventilation niche, as well as the black color of the refrigerator itself, we would have received a long tunnel.

It was also clear that the microwave, due to its size, should be located in one of the lower cabinets. Detailed description I, perhaps, will omit our creative searches.

I will confine myself to the following remarks on the merits:

1) We left 20 cm between the stove and the refrigerator, equipping a cargo cabinet in this space.

2) The width of the lower section along the short wall was made 50 cm instead of the standard 60 cm in order to save space. It seems to be a trifle, but it is felt. And the access to the sink is much more convenient.

3) Facades are glossy: firstly, they visually expand the space, and secondly, they are easy to clean.

4) The color of the facades along the long side, as planned, is orange, but along the short side they decided to make it silver. Still, the orange could delineate the boundaries of the kitchen too clearly and visually reduce the space, so we decided not to focus on the short side.

In the storage cabinet there are gas lifts, in the corner cabinet the door opens according to the "accordion" principle. There are ball guides in the lower section in the cabinet with drawers, and under the microwave there is a meta box. The rest of the cabinets have regular hinges.

This turned out to be very convenient, since the idea to turn on the backlight often arises when the hands are already wet or busy with something.

FROM ceiling lamp it was a bit more difficult, had to do some shopping. As a result, a lamp was chosen that, in my opinion, fits perfectly in shape and color into our interior. The undoubted advantage of this lamp are four horns, the direction of which can be changed.

I am not a supporter of curtains in the kitchen, at least not in my own, where every square centimeter and every ray is worth its weight in gold. Therefore, the option with roller blinds turned out to be the most optimal. On rare days, when the sun blinds your eyes mercilessly, it is enough to lower them, it will not get darker in the kitchen, just the light will scatter without causing discomfort.

The final touch is textiles for decorating the dining area. I know and understand that natural fabrics are impractical in everyday life, but rightly judging that all other surfaces are easy to clean, I decided to allow myself this little weakness. Thus, the table is covered with a gray linen tablecloth and orange linen napkins.

We have been using our kitchen for about a year now. And I understand that we got exactly what we wanted. It is comfortable, even despite its modest size. Everything is in its place. And I also noticed some positive metamorphoses. For example, my husband, who previously showed no interest in cooking, now cooks with pleasure, and I even learned how to bake cakes!

When discussing the design of the future kitchen with my husband, we followed two rules. First: the kitchen is a women's territory, so I, as a hostess, invent, and my husband implements. And secondly: it’s not the gods who burn the pots, so all the repairs in the kitchen (from the floor screed to the installation of appliances and furniture assembly) are done on their own (mainly, of course, by the husband’s forces).

Thus, the program "Your own director" to create the kitchen of my dreams with my script and the acting incarnation of my husband began.

So, I wanted a skinal “with green grass” in the kitchen - and nothing more. Therefore, we decided, as they say, to dance from the stove: make green an accent, and beige and brown were chosen as the main ones for furniture. This, it seems, is how eco-style turns out, my husband and I thought. However, the desire to be creative made our "eco-style" only a foundation and allowed us to get what you see in the end.

But first things first.

Floor. The incredible tactile sensations from the cork coating seen on the market could not but affect our decision: there will be a cork! And although its price did not allow laying this coating throughout the apartment, we spared $ 360 for the 8-square kitchen from the Wicanders CorkComfort collection, which we never regretted. The floor is always warm even without heating.

Ceiling. My husband supported my idea of ​​dividing the ceiling into four zones in a checkerboard pattern and using false beams. Due to their high cost, polyurethane beams were immediately dismissed, the husband himself made beams from natural material- wooden boards. In the extreme beam, as in the drywall construction, the exhaust duct is hidden.

Walls. Part of the walls were covered with German AC Creation wallpaper ($30), and part (in the dining area) was subjected to my "creativity": with the help of polymer decorative plaster VGT ($30) and her husband created their own texture and color. In the dining area, a “window to the world” was built using glass with photo printing.

The heating pipes, indecently receding from the wall, and stealing the precious space of the kitchen, were hidden behind a plasterboard construction. Artificial flowers - tulips - were placed in three niches of the structure. The heating battery itself was covered with a decorative rattan grille.

Window. A very unpresentable view from the window of the neighboring house helps to hide and hide from prying eyes, day-night role-curtains and tulle curtains (about $ 80). I am a big fan indoor plants, so my "favorites" found their rightful place on a wide windowsill.

Furniture. Since the repair budget was still limited, in order to avoid unnecessary expenses, the husband, with the help of a furniture maker friend, drew the furniture project himself. The cut and all fittings were ordered from the company. In another, which makes photo printing, they ordered tempered glass skins and glass with photo printing in the dining area.

The husband himself assembled the entire kitchen set in almost a week. The base is laminated chipboard, the countertop is Eger postforming, the facades are MDF with plastic. Top - gloss with wood structure, bottom - matt structured.

- We had a task to do in a maximum of 1.5 months overhaul old Khrushchev. We heard many opinions that it was almost impossible, but we had no choice.

We knew that kitchens were made for about two months, so when the builders got to work, the first thing they did was to look for a kitchen.

The initial data were as follows: incomplete 6 "squares" and a great dislike for wall cabinets. At the same time, they wanted to squeeze in a dishwasher, in no case set up a table and make room for a slate board so that it would serve as an internal family messenger.

They abandoned the idea of ​​connecting the kitchen with the room: it dragged out the deadlines, and they didn’t want to deprive themselves of another isolated room. In general, the kitchen was seen as stylish, cozy, functional, pleasant and uncluttered.

We needed someone to help make our dreams come true. We were lucky, we found a designer who thought through all the details and helped us a lot by drawing what we wanted. Veneer was chosen as the material, something between solid wood and paint (both in terms of cost and characteristics).

Another difficulty was that at the time of the measurement, the old walls and floor had not been dismantled. The table top, which also functions as a table, was made under the windowsill, and the deviation was allowed no more than 3 cm. And the standard-width oven did not suit us. Not that we bake geese every other day, but we can’t do without it. Narrow ovens turned out to be one and a half times more expensive, plus world brands, as it turned out, do not produce them. As a result, the choice was limited, which also caused some inconvenience.

The wife said she wanted a white kitchen: it's fresh, always stylish and cozy. White is so white - in this regard, we did not argue. We already have the whole apartment in bright colors with a predominance of white. The only thing they worried about was that two-year-old son Vova and puppy Grisha could “kill” the white kitchen completely. Then we thought: the children, with a strong desire, will kill anyone, so they let go of the situation.

And then it started: the dismantling of walls, floors, the transfer of a gas meter, a completely new electrician, new pipes, ceiling, lighting, floor / wall tiles.

At the time of assembly, the kitchen should also have all the appliances, a sink, a mixer, an outlet for the hood.

We have been looking for wall tiles for a long time. White, rectangular, matte - a rarity. Once we met the right Italian, but it was expensive. Everything else you've seen is white gloss which is now in vogue. But we do not respect gloss, so we looked further. Accidentally found the desired texture, but the tile was square - I had to redraw the project. It turned out great and saved a lot of money too.

Everything was simple with the floor: the color is known, they chose porcelain stoneware and immediately bought it. Stretch ceiling throughout the apartment. Done neatly. There are three light bulbs in the kitchen and the only chandelier in the apartment - lights above the roof.

We already had a dishwasher, everything else was bought in an online store. All brought, lifted, checked. There were strict requirements for the refrigerator: no wider than 55 cm and no deeper than 60. The hood was taken wide, 90 cm, it is the only one on the wall. All equipment in black and gray color, since white was already enough. We also picked up a sink and a mixer quickly, we trust one brand. From furniture - only chairs, which have long been seen in one store.

Looking forward to the installation! They met us halfway and brought the kitchen a couple of days earlier. Luckily, she was ready. Installers came, and my wife and I froze. We planned a cosmetic kitchen renovation: re-paste the wallpaper and refresh the ceiling. But everything has changed. Hooray! There will be three of us!
