How to make a hanging hammock chair with your own hands for your home and garden from different materials. A DIY hanging chair will become the center of attention of your guests. How to make a hanging chair with your own hands

Making a hanging chair with your own hands is a feasible task, the main thing is to choose a convenient manufacturing technique. As a child, everyone loved swings. The gentle rocking is so calming. And it is not surprising that as adults everyone wants to return to these moments of calm and tranquility. A hammock stretched between two old trees at the dacha and a wicker hanging chair gently swinging on the veranda of the dacha - such a swing will win the love of any adult and, of course, children.

Making a hanging chair with your own hands is a feasible task

To make a hanging chair, completely different materials are used. It all depends on what the frame will be like. Today the following designs are relevant:

  1. Rigid frame. Traditionally, structures are made from rattan or wicker rods. In a modern interpretation, you can find metal, plastic and acrylic frames. The rigid frame is covered with dense fabrics or braided with vines. Acrylic chairs are spherical in shape.
  2. Soft frame. Fabrics are traditionally used for such chairs, and their closest relative is the hammock.
  3. Cocoon shape. A cocoon, or egg chair, made on a rigid frame with wickerwork, will appeal to those who like to be alone with themselves. The walls are wide and will cover the seated person, and the interior space is hidden deep down. A separate world is created for those sitting in such a cocoon. In such a hanging cocoon you can hide from the outside world and enjoy your vacation.
  4. Drop shape. This shape is good when you need a children's hanging chair. Usually this is a chair in the form small house or cradles. You can sleep soundly in it or play hide and seek.
To make a hanging chair, completely different materials are used.

When choosing a frame, you should pay attention special attention to the place where the structure will hang, the type of fastening and for whom exactly it is intended depends on this. If there are small children in the house, then the hanging element of the interior should be as durable and reliable as possible. For options used in open spaces, for example, in a country house, mobility is important so that, if necessary, the structure can be quickly removed and it does not get wet in the rain.

Hammock chair made of metal hoop (video)

A simple hoop device

One of the easiest options for making a chair with your own hands is a chair with a hoop base. The frame here was an ordinary hula hoop. If such sports equipment is sitting idle in the house, you can give it a second life. Of course, a plastic hoop is not suitable here due to its fragility, but a metal hula hoop will do. There are two ways to make a chair: with one hoop and two, different in diameter.

Hanging chair It’s easy to do on one hoop, materials needed:

  • metal hoop, diameter from 0.8 to 1.2 m (the size of the chair depends on the diameter);
  • pieces of fabric (2 pieces) measuring 1.2x1.2 or 1.6x1.6 m (the fabric must be durable, you can use lining materials with padding polyester, they usually have factory stitching);
  • a piece of the same fabric, width 0.2 m, length 3.5-4 m (you can take several pieces);
  • padding polyester, width 2 m, length 3.5-4 m;
  • zipper, length 0.8-1.2 m;
  • linen rope or strong cord, length 10-11 m.

How to make a hanging chair - you must follow the instructions:

  1. Step 1. The fabric is spread out on a flat surface. A hoop is placed in the center of the fabric. A circle is drawn on the fabric with 25 cm indentations from the hoop. A circle is cut out according to the markings. There will be 2 parts. If the chair has synthetic padding, then a circle is cut out of it using the same markings.
  2. Step 2. One of the fabric pieces is folded in half. Using scissors, cut the circle in the center - this is the place for the zipper. A zipper is attached along the cut line. Now fold 2 circles with the right side inward and sew them together. The cover must be turned right side out.
  3. Step 3. To secure the cables, 4 holes are cut. To prevent the holes from looking sloppy, they can be covered with braid.
  4. Step 4. To make your stay in the chair comfortable, the hoop should be covered with padding polyester. This must be done with a hand seam, a stitch across the edges, and to prevent the fabric from slipping, in some places you can glue it with polymer glue. The hoop, lined with padding polyester, is threaded through a sewn-in zipper into the finished case.
  5. Step 5. All that remains is to secure the cables. Sections are cut from linen ropes or cord (2 sections of 2.2 m each and 2 sections of 2.8 meters each). Each piece is folded in half, and strong knots are tied at the ends. Each rope is threaded through a hole and secured with a loop.
  6. Step 6. All that remains is to hang the chair.

Design on two hoops

More often, chairs are made using the macrame weaving technique, like a regular hammock, but not everyone has this skill, and therefore you can make a chair in another way, more common and simpler.

List for making such a chair necessary materials will change:

  • 2 metal hoops of different diameters - 0.7 and 1.1 m;
  • nylon cord 1 m long, thickness not less than 4 mm (can be replaced with linen or jute rope);
  • nylon cord for cables: length – 12 m, thickness – 7 mm;
  • metal pipes: diameter -25 mm, 2 pieces (can be replaced with a rope with a diameter of 12 mm).

Instructions:

  1. Step 1. First, 2 hoops are wrapped with nylon cord. To prevent the loops from creeping, the weaving should be tightened every 20 turns. To secure the cord more securely, you can use polymer glue, but so that it is not visible on the hoop. The cord is laid in a very tight knit. Otherwise, the product will look sloppy.
  2. Step 2. The lower hoop is braided with a cord or rope. You can use any macrame technique as a basis, for example, checkerboard weaving. But if macrame is not possible, then circular weaving, as for rugs, will be the way out. This weaving is simple to make and durable when used.
  3. Step 3. Next you need to weave 2 hoops together. This is done from below, in front of the chair. Then the back needs to be stiffened. 2 metal pipes, braided with cord or rope, are fixed in the back of the chair. The tubes are braided or sewn to the lower and upper hoops, parallel to each other.
  4. Step 4. Now you can braid the back of the chair. The cables are fixed to the upper hoop. They can also be braided with cord or rope for strength.

Wicker cocoon made of willow

In the middle of the last century, a hanging wicker chair or wicker chair was considered chic and fashionable. Today furniture from natural materials does not give up its positions. For production they use willow twigs, willow trees, rattan and bast are perfect. Russian producers most often use willow and willow.

You can make a wicker children's hanging cocoon chair (hanging because it is in a suspended state) with your own hands. The art of weaving requires considerable effort and patience. The weaving pattern depends on the skills of the craftsman. Rattan is perfect for beginners, as it is more flexible and manageable.

Materials required for work:

  • willow twigs - 500 pieces with a diameter of 1-2 mm;
  • the front part should be framed from a metal hoop or pipe (braided rods can be used);
  • strong twine for wrapping;
  • glue;
  • nylon cord with a diameter of 4 mm, natural color;
  • cables for fastening the finished product.

You should start by preparing the vines. To make it pliable for weaving, it should be steamed and cleared of bark. The peeled vine is beaten back.

If the frame of the chair is made of hoop, then to give it the shape of a cocoon it needs to be bent so that it becomes an oval or egg shape.

Advice! The cocoon or egg chair shape comes out better from a metal-plastic tube. It can be easily given any shape.

Instructions:

  1. Step 1. First prepare the cross. 3 or 4 rods are tied together with twine in the shape of a cross. The twine is coated with glue. The length of the rods is selected based on the diameter of the future seat.
  2. Step 2. The crosspiece is wrapped around a thin rod. It should alternately be on top or below the crossbar rods.
  3. Step 3. Rod by rod, a circle for sitting with a diameter of 70-90 cm is wrapped in the same way. The last rod in the weaving is tied with twine and coated with glue.
  4. Step 4. Now you can weave the basket. Weaving a cocoon chair is the same as weaving a basket, with the only difference being the weaving of the seat. The first step is to install the frame rods. They are attached to the main frame and woven seat using twine coated with glue. The frame rods are fixed at intervals of 2-2.5 cm. They form the back and depth of the future chair.
  5. Step 5. The main rods are threaded perpendicular to the frame rods. Weaving starts from the bottom. Rising upward, the body of the chair is created. Weaving is carried out horizontally in relation to the main frame and begins from the middle of the back of the chair. The ends of the rods are braided around the front part of the frame made of a hoop or tube. The rods are pressed tightly one to one. The ends of the last rod are pushed with an awl into the main weave of the chair.
  6. Step 6. Cables for hanging are installed in the finished cocoon.

Important! The wicker cocoon chair and egg chair do not have reliable back support, so it is good to use high, dense pillows.

How to make a hammock at home (video)

Lightweight hammock for the cottage

Everyone probably knows what a hammock is - a rectangular piece of fabric with wooden blocks on the sides and cables for installation.

Materials:

  • a piece of thick fabric, the width and length are determined at will (a long length, more than 2 meters, will make the structure uncomfortable, the back will always fall through);
  • synthetic winterizer or any other filler;
  • wooden or metal strips for side fastenings (strong nylon ropes can be used);
  • ropes or cables for a hanging chair.

Manufacturing process:

  1. Step 1. A piece of fabric is folded in half. One edge should remain uneven so that there is a curl. A padding polyester or other filler is laid. The cut is stitched along the edges. You need to leave 2 on both sides large cavities by the diameter of the fastenings (straps or ropes).
  2. Step 2. Fasteners are threaded into the resulting cavities. To keep the ropes stationary, they can be sewn on a machine or sewn by hand.
  3. Step 3. Holes are made in the side strips for attaching ropes or cables, they are threaded and secured with a strong knot or loop. You can coat them with glue. Side fastenings are attached to one hinged bar
  4. Step 4. The structure is attached to the ceiling.

In my own way appearance such a structure with parallel fastening resembles a small hanging hammock. In order to strengthen the back, you can use a thick pillow.

In conclusion, it is worth noting that safety precautions must always be observed.

Attention, TODAY only!

Hanging chairs are an alternative to a rocking chair on runners at home and a hammock in nature. Comfort and gentle rocking will help you relax and unwind after a hard day. The variety of models and materials for manufacturing allows you to harmoniously integrate such a chair into any interior. And you don’t have to spend money on a purchase. Some models are easy to make with your own hands.

Types of hanging chairs

They produce a wide variety of models and designs. They can be made of wood, metal, rattan, wicker, transparent plastic. There are models that you can make yourself without any problems.

  1. Swing chair. Fastening is carried out at two points. Due to this, the structure swings in one plane. There are soft models (chair-hammock) or on a rigid frame:
    • the basis of the first option is a soft fabric or wicker fabric, which is easy to sew, weave using the macrame technique or crochet - the ends of the panel are attached to the transverse rod with 4 slings, and it is already suspended from the ceiling or a leg stand;
    • the second option has a rigid frame made of acrylic, plastic, wood, rattan or metal in the form of a hoop covered with a soft base.
  2. Nest chair. The basis of the design consists of 2 durable hoops. The model has a flat bottom and low sides, which are braided with cord, rope or tied with strong threads.
  3. The cocoon chair (egg) differs from its counterparts in its greater closedness, often up to 70%. Back and side surfaces tall and connected above the head. The rigid frame is braided suitable material or covered with fabric. Varieties of this model - basket chair and drop chair - are ideal for a child's room.

Finishing techniques and materials

Such chairs usually have a rigid frame and a seat made of various materials.

  1. Textile. An affordable and easy-to-work material, the density and strength of which is selected based on the expected load. A raincoat or tarpaulin will do. A chair for children made from old jeans with pockets and rivets looks original.
  2. Knitted fabric. Craftsmen who master knitting or crocheting techniques can use their skills to create an original chair from plain or multi-colored threads.
  3. Macrame. Weaving from a durable cord will not only last a long time, but will also add a special flavor to any interior.
  4. Vine, rattan. Armchairs made from environmentally friendly materials will decorate any interior, but working with them requires special skills. In addition, rattan does not grow in our country.

This is interesting! An unusual and very durable material for braiding a chair - a thread made from plastic bottles. This chair will not get wet, will not become deformed, and can be hung outside.

Frame material

The base of the chair can be made from different materials.

  1. Gymnastic hoop. Suitable only for a child's chair; for an adult, its strength is not enough, since the cross-sectional diameter is 16 mm, and for the frame of the chair you need 2 times more.
  2. Metal pipe. The product made from it will be durable, but heavy - at least 7 kg. To make it you will need pipe bending equipment.
  3. Tree. The design will be durable, lightweight, and environmentally friendly. Since the material absorbs moisture and dries out in the sun, wood for outdoor chairs must be treated with impregnations. This will protect the material from rotting.
  4. Metal-plastic pipes. Durable, lightweight and non-corrosive material. When using coiled pipes, there is no need to bend them. The ends of the segment are connected with a wooden or plastic insert and secured with self-tapping screws.

You should not use old material when making a chair: such furniture will not last long.

Making a hanging chair with your own hands

A DIY hanging chair will look good in a country house or on the veranda of a private house. The easiest to make is a hammock chair. It can be done in several ways from different materials, but the most convenient and uncomplicated of them are macrame or textiles.

Hammock without frame

To work you will need:

  • dense fabric - 1.5x1.5 m;
  • durable cord;
  • wooden rod for fastening;
  • sewing supplies.

After preparing everything you need, proceed to the assembly process.

Swing on a rigid frame

To make it you will need:

  • hoop with a diameter of 90–95 cm;
  • durable fabric 3 m long and 1.5 m wide;
  • zipper - 90–95 cm;
  • strong cord or rope - 10 m;
  • metal rings for attaching the structure to the ceiling;
  • interlining;
  • scissors;
  • measuring tape;
  • sewing supplies.

When all the materials are prepared, proceed to making the chair.

  1. Fold the fabric in half and lay it on a flat surface.
  2. Place the hoop in the center, at a distance of 20–25 cm from it, apply markings along the circumference and connect the marks with a line. Cut out 2 circles.
  3. On one of the blanks, make a cut through the center with a length equal to the diameter of the hoop, sew a zipper in this place.
  4. Connect both pieces with a seam around the circumference.
  5. Make cutouts on the finished case for attaching ropes to a hoop 10 cm long. To do this, fold the case in half and measure 45 ° C from the fold line in one direction, 30 ° C in the other, put marks.
  6. Duplicate the marks on the second part of the circle. The distance between the cutouts in the front of the chair should be greater than in the back.
  7. Seal the slits with tape.
  8. Wrap the hoop with a strip of padding polyester and connect it with a seam to secure it.
  9. Insert the hoop into the case and fasten the zipper.
  10. Cut the cord into 4 pieces, 2.2 and 2.8 m long. Fold each piece in half and secure it to the hoop. To do this, thread a loop through the hole in the cover, and insert the ends of the cord through it and tighten them. Long cords should be in the front of the chair, and short cords should be in the back.
  11. Tie a short and a long cord on the right side to one ring, and on the left to the other. Make strong knots.
  12. Hang the rings from the ceiling, beam, or thick tree branch outside.
  13. Place pillows inside or sew a round mattress. This will make the chair even more comfortable.

How to make a wicker nest chair: step by step photos

By making the seat flat and providing the structure with sides, you can get a nest chair. For this rocking chair you will need:

  • two hoops from metal-plastic pipe cross section 35 mm: for a seat with a diameter of 70 cm, for a backrest - 110 cm;
  • polyamide cord 4 mm thick - 900 m;
  • sling or strong rope - 12 m;
  • a thicker cord to connect the seat and backrest.

To make this chair you need to know how to weave.

  1. First, braid both hoops:
    • wrap the pipe with a cord (it is worth taking a cord with a polypropylene core, as it will help make a stronger binding);
    • Stretch the thread well (each next turn should fit evenly and tightly to the previous one);
    • every 20 turns, secure the thread, stretching it as much as possible and twisting it;
    • For greater strength, coat the weaving with glue.
  2. At equal intervals, fasten pieces of double-folded cord onto the braid of the hoop with a double loop. They should take up half the length of the hoop.
  3. Using flat knots in a checkerboard pattern, weave the bottom of the chair, securing the remaining ends to the free semicircle. The tension on the cords when weaving should be quite strong. It’s okay if the hoop is slightly deformed; the shape will be restored in the future.
  4. Connect the finished seat and the back hoop by tying them to each other with a cord in the front part of the structure.
  5. At the back, connect the seat and the backrest hoop with two wooden spacer rods, making cuts in their ends for strong fastening. The length of the spacers is selected in accordance with the desired backrest height.
  6. Attach cords to the upper arch of the back and weave from top to bottom. Attach the remaining cords to the seat and form them into tassels.
  7. Connect the upper arch of the backrest and the seat with a thick cord parallel to the spacers, and then remove them.
  8. Bind to finished design slings. They also need to be made using the macrame technique from cords.
  9. Hang the chair.

How to make an egg chair at home

Chair-egg (cocoon) - the most difficult option for the home handyman. The design is closed on three sides, and the side surfaces and back close together above the head.

  1. For work, you can use metal-plastic pipes, assembling a frame from a hoop and additional arcs. To give additional rigidity, the structure is strengthened with several horizontal arcs, the elements are connected to each other with self-tapping screws.
  2. The finished frame is braided with cord using the macrame technique, covered with fabric or crocheted.
  3. For someone who knows how to work with wood, it’s easy to cut the frame out of thick plywood.

Children's cocoon chair made of fabric

For children, a cocoon chair can be made from fabric. It does not take up much space, will fit organically into the interior of a child’s room and is not dangerous.

To make it you will need:

  • 2 meters of dense fabric 1.5 m wide;
  • lightning;
  • pillow or inflatable balloon;
  • sewing supplies.

The technique for making a cocoon is not complicated, the main thing is to follow the instructions.

Instead of a pillow or an inflatable chamber, you can insert a hoop into the bottom of the chair, then you will get a drop chair.

Attaching suspended rockers to the ceiling, stand, beam

For any suspended structures, the main thing is reliable fastening. The safety of those who will use the chair depends on it. There are several installation options:

  • to the ceiling;
  • to the leg stand;
  • to a tree branch or beam (for the street).

If indoors suspended ceiling, then installing the mount will be problematic. In this case, you need to mount the structure before attaching the ceiling or you should purchase a special stand-leg.

Let's consider different options installation

  1. You can drill a hole in the concrete ceiling and install a powerful anchor with a hook into it for hanging the structure. There are special kits on sale, consisting of an anchor, a hook and a chain. The fastener must support a weight of at least 120 kg.
  2. The voids in the ceiling through the hole must be filled with a special solution made from high-strength polymers - chemical anchors. Such compositions are sold in tubes for construction syringes. Then you need to insert the anchor into the hole and wait a day until the composition dries completely.
  3. For ceilings with strong floor beams or for terraces and outdoors, bolting is suitable.
  4. For suspended ceiling It is worth purchasing a special suspension that has a bracket that is attached to the concrete ceiling and comes out through the suspension. A hook is screwed to it.

    The mounting bracket is installed on the concrete ceiling, then a hook is screwed to it

  5. The slings are tied to a tree branch with a strong knot.
  6. The stand-leg can be purchased at the store. It is convenient because the chair is not permanently fixed in one place and can be moved, and, if necessary, disassembled and transported.

Drawing of a stand for making it yourself

You can actually make the simplest leg stand for a hanging chair yourself.

  1. The wooden stand consists of only 5 parts, but it cannot be made without special equipment; all the parts are bent.
  2. The most common option is a metal stand. To make it you will need metal pipe, pipe bending equipment and welding.
  3. A simple version of a metal stand: the design does not require complex drawings or special skills.

    For stability, a simple metal stand is attached to a vertical support with a chain or cable

To fully relax, you don’t have to spend a lot of money. If you approach the matter creatively, relaxation will become not only the relaxation in the hanging chair, but also the process of making it. And the product will cause legitimate pride.

Hanging chairs that are recent years settled in interior fashion, are unique inventions. They not only add coziness, add variety and fill the home environment with romanticism, but also serve as a functional piece of furniture. It’s not difficult to make a hanging hammock chair with your own hands; it will look especially relevant in a country house or on the veranda of a private house and will become ideal place for relaxation.

Wicker hammock chair on a rigid frame

Not the easiest to make, but the most comfortable are hanging hammock chairs based on a rigid frame. Most often it is an ordinary metal hoop, like those used for gymnastics. You can make a hanging hammock chair with your own hands in several ways from different materials, but the most convenient and easiest to make are hammocks made from macrame or textiles.

Fabric hammock chair

What you need for a hammock chair using macrame technique

If you master the art of macrame, then it will not be difficult to make a hanging chair that will create a unique, peaceful atmosphere on the veranda. In this case, you will not have to sew, because the entire structure will consist only of a frame and woven fabric, the pattern of which you choose yourself. To create a macrame hammock chair with your own hands you will need:

  • two metal hoops, the diameter of which should be different. For sitting, a diameter of 80 cm will be sufficient, for the back - 110-115 cm;
  • 800-900 m of dense rope material or polyamide cord for weaving;
  • 12 meters of slings;
  • strong cords for fastening hoops;
  • a pair of wooden rods;
  • centimeter, scissors, gloves.

The art of macrame will allow you to create an elegant, graceful and comfortable chair

The most convenient and practical to use are hoops made from a metal-plastic tube with a cross-section of no more than 35 mm. It is such a hoop that can provide the entire suspended structure with the necessary strength. Make a tube hoop as follows:

  1. Determine the length of the segment using a simple formula, based on the required diameter of the hoop: S=3.14xD. Since the outlet needs a diameter of 115 cm, the required pipe length will be 361 cm.
  2. In the same way, calculate the length of the pipe for the second hoop. To connect the ends of the tubes when making hoops, plastic spacers are useful, which are fastened with ordinary screws.

To weave the back and seat of the chair, you will need ropes with a diameter of 4-5 mm with a soft surface or a durable rope with a polypropylene core - such material is sold in a building materials store. Its advantage is that when weaving, strong knots are created that do not “spread” as is the case with cotton threads. It is advisable to purchase the entire length of the cord at once, so as not to have to worry about selecting a material that is similar in texture and shade.

Hanging chair assembly instructions

Stage 1: Winding the frame. The surface of both hoops must be covered tightly, without gaps or sagging, with a cord, tightening it every couple of dozen turns.

Wear gloves when performing this work to avoid causing blisters or cuts.

Stage 2: Weaving the seat. Along the diameter of the smaller hoop, fasten the threads with the same distance between them, and then start making the pattern. The macrame pattern can be anything: you can give free rein to your imagination and skill if you are well aware of the macrame technique. Most craftsmen prefer classic chess. And the use of flat knots in this weaving will allow even a not very experienced “knitter” to make a hammock chair with his own hands using macrame.

Two-color “chess”, despite the simplicity of the pattern, looks very cute and original

Stage 3: Assembling the structure. Before you start decorating the back of the hanging chair, you need to fasten the hoops together. Do this by gathering and wrapping them at one end with a tight, strong rope. It is important to determine the length of the support rods: the longer it is, the deeper and higher the hammock chair will be. It is better to provide the ends of the rods with small cuts before fastening them: this way you will eliminate the risk of slipping and the structure will be more stable.

Step-by-step diagram of a macrame hammock chair

Stage 4: Weaving the back. You can weave it in any pattern, but it is better that it matches the way we weave the seat. They weave the back from above, going down to the lower hoop and fastening the ropes tightly.

Keep an eye on the elasticity of the weaving: the reliability and practicality of the design will depend on this

When you finish weaving and you still have free edges of the threads, if desired, form a fringe out of them. From the remaining ropes, weave strong cords for hanging the chair. The result is a practical, elegant, comfortable hammock chair that will decorate any interior.

How to install a wicker hammock chair

Think in advance where the hammock chair will be hung: whether it will be a wide branch of a tree in the garden or the ceiling. The hanging mechanism must be reliable, because it has to withstand the weight of not only the chair, but also the person sitting in it.

Crossbar – the simplest way hammock fasteners

If you plan to place a hanging hammock chair made by yourself in the garden, then you can purchase a wide and durable carabiner and hang the product on wooden beam. If the chair is made for home use, make a hole in the ceiling slab and fill it with a special chemical made from high-strength polymers.

After filling the voids in the ceiling covering, secure a ring or hook in it. But you need to hang a hammock chair on such a structure after the solution in the ceiling has completely hardened - no less than two days after filling.

Example of a ceiling mount for a hammock chair

On a veranda with a wooden ceiling, you can attach a hammock chair with your own hands very simply: a bolt fastening made of high-strength steel is placed in the drilled hole, from which the hammock will be suspended on a carabiner, hook or ring.

How to make a hanging chair from textiles

If you are unfamiliar with the technique of weaving macrame, do not despair. There are many options for how to make a hammock chair with your own hands, and one of them is a textile chair. To make it, you can also use a hoop, in which case an ordinary gymnastic hoop with a diameter of 90-93 cm will do. You can use fabric of any color, which will make it possible to decorate and add zest to the interior of the veranda.

Option for a frame textile hammock chair for the garden and cottage

Materials for a textile chair for a veranda

In addition to the hollow metal hoop for a textile hammock chair, you need:

  • about 3 meters of fabric of any color, but its structure should be quite dense (denim or thick cotton will do);
  • padding polyester for filling the fabric cover;
  • 4 buckles, fastening ring for hanging;
  • braid or non-woven fabric - at least 3 m;
  • belt - about 9 m;
  • sewing machine and related sewing accessories: tape measure, thread, scissors.

To make a hanging chair, a hoop made of bent metal-plastic pipe is often used. Some use bent wood, but this option is only suitable for indoor use: with temperature changes, the wood dries out and changes shape.

Technology for making a fabric hammock chair

First make the fabric base. From a 3-meter piece of fabric, make two circles, each 1.5 m in diameter. It’s easy to do this step by step:

  • cut the fabric into two even parts;
  • fold each one in four;
  • Marking the edge of a circle with a radius of 65 cm from the center, cut off the excess fabric.

Having made a pattern for the hole for the sling, cover the edges with braid or glue them with non-woven fabric

  1. After reviewing the diagram, mark and make holes for the slings at angles of 45 °C and 30 °C.
  2. After marking the space for the lines, straighten out the circles. It is better to work with both cuts at once, placing one circle on top of the other: this way all the lines and cuts will be symmetrical. Pins will help you make slits for the slings on both circles at the same time.
  3. Sew a zipper into one of the circles in the middle, the length of which should match the diameter of your hoop.
  4. Leave the zipper open.
  5. After this, stitch the two circles together with the right sides at a distance of 1 cm from the edge.
  6. Turn out the resulting cover and iron it.
  7. Using pre-prepared strips of padding polyester, sheathe the hoop as tightly as possible, and then treat it with the same fabric from which you are making the hammock chair: this way its operation will be much more convenient and reliable.
  8. Place the hoop into the resulting case through the zipper and close it. Using a strong thread, make a hidden seam around the entire circumference, framing the ring on the inside.

How to hang a textile hammock chair from a hoop

Divide the prepared 8-9 m of belt tape into 4 equal parts and thread it into the cells left for the slings. It is better to melt the ends of the tape with fire so that the belts do not unravel during use. Wrap the hoop in ribbon, fasten it and sew it with strong threads.

You can replace the belt with strong ropes, fastening them at the top with a ring

To be able to adjust the height at which you are going to hang the chair, as well as its tilt, thread metal or plastic buckles into the free ends of the belt tape.
