How to make plastic roof gutters from fittings and pvc sewer pipes with your own hands. How to make gutters with your own hands: technical nuances and installation specifics Ready-made brackets for drainage systems

Any building needs high-quality removal of precipitation. The roof itself is airtight, and storm water and snow go away thanks to the slopes. But if the flowing moisture gets on the facade or foundation of the building, then they will become damp and wear out faster. Therefore, every building needs a drain. This is a protective structure, consisting of a system of gutters located along the perimeter of the roof, and outlet pipes.

Why do you need a drain

An external drain is a complex of open gutters that collects moisture from the roof and directs it into vertical outlet pipes. The places where the structure ends are equipped with water collection tanks or storm sewers.

The gutter protects the house from the damaging effects of moisture

Gutter functions

The drain performs the following functions:

  1. Protective. It consists in withdrawal Wastewater from the walls and basement of the house.
  2. Decorative. A beautiful homemade gutter will decorate your home or gazebo.
  3. Cumulative. With the help of such a system, storm water can be filled with a special reservoir for irrigation.

Industrial drains are made of special plastic or galvanized steel and their cost is quite high. And if you add plugs, funnels, corners and knees, then the price will double. Ready-made parts have their own advantage - they are easy to assemble, like a designer. To save money, the craftsmen found an alternative and began to independently manufacture drainage systems from improvised means, for example, from plastic sewer pipes. Therefore, if there is already a house or cottage, but there is no drain, then you can risk making it yourself.

Homemade gutter can last for many years

If you approach the matter wisely and choose the right material, then a home-made drain can be used as the main one.

Types of drains

Drainage is of the following types:

  1. External or external. This type is suitable for self-assembly.
  2. Internal, which is also provided for in the project. Most often, this type is installed on flat roofs; pipes made of any material are suitable for it.

Materials for homemade gutters

Previously, only metal was used to assemble ebb systems. More often - galvanized or polymer-coated steel, less often - copper or aluminum. Now range suitable materials increased significantly:

  1. Gutters made of galvanized steel. They are durable, reliable, resistant to loads and temperature fluctuations. Their disadvantage is noise and susceptibility to corrosion.

    Galvanized steel is one of the most popular gutter materials.

  2. PVC drainage systems. They are lightweight and low noise, easy to assemble and well resist temperature changes.

    PVC gutter - reliable and silent

  3. Drainage systems from sewer pipes. Thanks to convenient installation and a wide variety of adapters, such pipes have become an excellent replacement for PVC industrial drains.

    Sewer pipes - great material for gutter

  4. Ceramic pipes and gutters. They will need special clay and pottery skill.

    Ceramic pipes are very durable

  5. ebbs from plastic bottles. They are quick to install, but are suitable as a temporary alternative.

    Bottle plastic is the most available material to create a drainage

  6. Wooden gutters. Made by hand, they last a long time only in case of special processing.

    The wooden gutter is very decorative.

  7. Copper drains. Suitable for long-term use, but become covered with patina over time.

    Copper gutters look noble and prestigious

For the hand-made manufacture of a standard drainage system, they often use plastic pipes for sewerage. They have a number of undoubted advantages:

  • affordable price;
  • a wide range of pipes and adapters, as well as various mechanisms for fastening;
  • light weight, which facilitates transportation and installation;
  • the possibility of self-cutting;
  • durability.

Since such pipes come in different colors, you need to figure out which of them are recommended to be used to equip the drainage system:

How to make a gutter with your own hands

Before buying pipes, a diagram of the entire system is drawn up, including all parts of the structure and their number:

The cross section of the pipes is selected based on the area of the roof slope. You can use the following scale:

  • slope area up to 50 sq. m - pipe diameter 8 cm;
  • up to 125 sq. m - 9 cm;
  • over 125 sq. m - 10 cm.

The remaining elements are purchased based on the diameter of the pipes from which the gutters are made.

As already noted, before buying materials and installing a drain, you need to draw detailed diagram, which should include:

  • roof perimeter;
  • length and number of gutters;
  • attachment points for brackets, joints and funnels;
  • location of drains.

Based on the perimeter of the roof, the footage of the pipe for future gutters is determined. Since it is sawn in half and two are obtained from one workpiece, the required length of the pipes will be equal to half the perimeter of the roof. Next, the number of drainage risers is calculated. To do this, a plan is drawn on which all elements are marked. The distance between them cannot exceed 5 m. After determining the number of gutters, their length is calculated, for which the distance from the cornice overhang to the ground is measured. This will be the estimated height of the drainage riser. This figure is multiplied by the number of parts and the desired pipe length is obtained. Next on the project, the tees connecting the gutters and risers are calculated. If the risers deviate at an angle, ready-made adapters are purchased. A special universal sealant for joints is also required.

Tools for the job

For work you need:

  • wood screws;
  • screwdriver;
  • grinder, jigsaw;
  • hacksaw for metal;
  • screwdriver;
  • building cord;
  • level and tape measure;

You will also need scaffolding.

Construction of a drainage system

After purchasing the materials, you can begin to manufacture and assemble the drainage structure.

Creating gutters

To make a gutter from a pipe, it should be cut in half. This can be done with a grinder by choosing a diamond-coated disc and segments. Then the plastic will not melt when cutting. Can also be used electric jigsaw. For convenience, you need to design something like a guide and fix it on the workpiece so that the cut is even. It can be done with a simple hacksaw. A ruler attached to the workpiece with tape, or a thread stretched over self-tapping screws screwed into the pipe from both ends can act as a guide. The sections of the pipe included in the tee are not sawn. This guarantees reliable connections.

From one plastic pipe, two drainage gutters are obtained

Manufacturing and installation of brackets

Brackets are used to secure the gutters. You can buy them or make your own from strips of sheet metal, bending the gutter to fit. The bracket is the basic component of an outdoor gutter that supports the gutter. With the help of hook-shaped holders, a configuration of the water intake circuit is formed.
Brackets can be made independently from a strip of steel with a thickness of at least 2 mm, because they must be reliable. You can buy ready-made strips for electrical work. Their cross section is initially suitable, it remains only to cut the blanks along the length.
Workpiece size:

To make all brackets the same, you can use a tool for bending steel strips or steel pipe right size as a template. It is also recommended to fill nails on a thick board in the desired sequence and bend the holder using a piece of pipe as a lever.
After shaping, holes are drilled in the brackets - two for attaching to the cornice, the next two for attaching the gutter. Finally, the holders are painted with rust paint - it is more durable. Brackets are attached in several ways:

Brackets are mounted taking into account the following principles:

Having chosen the method of fixing the brackets, you can get to work:

  1. The first two extreme brackets are attached, between which the necessary slope is maintained.

    The two end brackets are attached first.

  2. A cord is stretched between the fixed brackets, and places for attaching all other elements are marked along this straight line.
  3. The brackets are screwed to the base in increments of 550–600 mm.

    A distance of 5-6 cm is maintained between the brackets

  4. Next, plastic adapters or funnels of the future drain are mounted. One funnel is able to collect water from 120 m of roof.

    The hole for installing the funnel is cut with a hacksaw.

  5. Gutters are installed. They gather both on the ground and under the roof. The main thing is to correctly connect the joints. They are attached with glue or docked using special aluminum clips. In case of docking, the use of sealant is mandatory. Bracket mounting height varies by region. If there is little snow in winter, then you can fix it where it is convenient. Otherwise, the gutter is lowered so that the snow coming from the roof does not take the drain with it.

    Gutters are docked with clips or put on glue

  6. When the gutters are assembled and lie on the brackets, the adapter pipes from whole pieces pipes are wound into tees or drain funnels. Before that, they are treated with a sealant. A plug must be installed at the upper end of the drain system.

    The plug is mounted on a rubber seal

Installation of external drainage risers

Assembling downspouts looks the same as joining gutters. If the pipe is lengthened, then an adapter is placed on the sealant between the segments. The process requires compliance with a number of rules:

  • the drainpipe should move away from the wall by 10 cm;
  • for fastening to the walls you need to use clamps;
  • the pipe should be mounted from top to bottom;
  • insert the upper section into the funnel and fix with sealant.

If necessary, the riser pipe can be connected to a storm sewer adapter. It is recommended to replace it with a knee, under which a container for flowing water is placed.

The installation of the downpipe must be carried out in accordance with the regulations

It is recommended to additionally protect the finished drain from littering by installing a construction mesh twisted into a roll into the gutters. The diameter of the rolled roll should be slightly smaller than the diameter of the pipe from which the gutters are made. The protection is fixed with plastic clamps.

The gutter can be protected with a mesh of different materials

Homemade galvanized steel gutter

Creating a drainage system from galvanized steel requires certain knowledge and skill. Roofing sheet steel 0.5–0.7 mm is usually used. It should not be less than 270 g per sq. m.

Tools

It is necessary to prepare:

  • metal scissors;
  • marker for marking;
  • hammer and mallet;
  • pliers.

Making a pipe from tin

Pipes are a simple element of a drain system and are very easy to make at home. Sheets of galvanized steel or thin tin are suitable for work. The manufacturing method of these materials is the same.

It is easy to make a steel pipe yourself

Step-by-step instruction

Work is performed in the following sequence:

  1. Calculation of the amount of materials and their purchase.

    The weight of the steel sheet must be at least 270 g per square meter. m

  2. A sheet of metal laid on a flat surface is cut to the size of the gutters and pipes of the future drain. The width of the blank for the pipe should have a margin of one and a half centimeters to connect the edges. A fold line is also applied - on one side at a distance of 0.5 cm, and on the other - 1 cm. Before shaping, the workpiece can be painted to extend its service life.

    To make the drainpipe last longer, it can be painted

  3. With the help of pliers, the pattern is bent from the smaller side at an angle, and from the larger side - the letter G.
  4. The metal is leveled with a mallet at a right angle. The sides of the workpiece are connected, and the smaller part should go into the larger one.
  5. Cylindrical or semi-cylindrical shape of the workpiece can be given manually using a template. A sheet of metal is placed on a pipe or log of the desired diameter and tapped with a mallet.

    You can shape the pipe for the drain with your own hands

Steel gutter installation

The principles of installing a gutter system made of galvanized metal are similar to installing a drain made of plastic pipes. But there are also differences:

  1. After determining the starting point, the gutter brackets are mounted.
  2. Metal gutters are overlapped 7-10 cm long. The overlap is designed to compensate for the expansion of the metal in the summer.
  3. Funnels are installed, which should be located between the brackets. The holes for the funnels are cut with scissors for metal.
  4. The funnels are connected to the pipe at a sufficient distance from the wall.
  5. Pipes are fixed with clamps.
  6. An ebb is attached at the bottom of the pipe.
  7. An anti-icing system is installed.

Drainage from plastic bottles

The cheapest and easiest option is to create a drain from plastic containers. Accumulating the right amount of such material will be easy, but for the design you will need 1.5-liter straight-shaped bottles. In addition to them, you will need wire and brackets.

Drainage from bottle plastic is assembled very quickly and is cheap

Tools and materials for work

It is worth preparing:

  • furniture stapler and brackets 10–12 mm;
  • construction knife;
  • drill or screwdriver;
  • thin drill;
  • wire;
  • awl;
  • plastic container.

Step-by-step instructions for making a drip from plastic bottles

  1. The first step is to calculate the length of the future drain. For convenience, you can draw a sketch. Functional part bottles will be equal to 15–20 cm. This plastic is not suitable for long (more than 5 m) structures.
  2. Bottles are cleaned of stickers and labels.
  3. Then, the bottom and the neck are cut off from the plastic container in the place where the upper part narrows. For the gutter, the resulting cylinder is sawn in half.

    A plastic bottle needs to be prepared to make a drain out of it.

  4. The gutter is assembled from plastic rectangles using a stapler. The plastic is overlapped (1.5 cm) and fixed with two or three staples. The bottoms are used as plugs for swivel structures.

    You need to fasten the parts of the bottles for the gutter with a stapler

  5. The resulting light gutter is attached to the roof. To do this, holes are drilled in slate or other roofing material at a distance of 20–30 cm. Similar holes in the gutter are made with a screwdriver or an ordinary awl. Next, a wire is passed through the holes, which attaches the spillway to the roof.
  6. Drainage is also easily constructed from bottles. We cut off the neck of one, and from the rest we make already familiar cylinders. A bottle with a cut off neck will act as an adapter - it will need to make a hole in it for the edge of the gutter.

    The finished construction of plastic bottles will last about a year

The finished design will last at least a year, but then you have to take care of creating a more advanced system.

It's obvious that independent creation gutter system is available to anyone who wants to equip their home with an economical and practical design.

During construction country house immediately before the installation of the roof, it is necessary to install a drainage system. Its main purpose is the collection and removal of rain and melt water. This prevents the destruction of the walls of the building and the foundation. To build a drainage system, or, as it is also called, a storm sewer, you can use ready-made structures that are sold in specialized companies. But if you want to save money, it is much cheaper to make a drain from sewer pipes with your own hands. But here you have to make a lot of efforts with preliminary calculations.

Manufacturing technology

Sewer polymer pipes may well serve as drains. For the manufacture of gutters, the pipe must be cut lengthwise in half with a grinder or a hacksaw. After their joining, an excellent tight connection is formed.

Note! Sewer pipes will serve as a drainage system for many years, because they are designed for aggressive drains.

So, to do the work yourself, you will need the following material:

  • Gutters. They will be made of polypropylene sewer pipe Ø110 mm.
  • Water pipes. To do this, you will need to purchase pipes Ø50 mm.
  • Tees that will connect pipes into one system. On both sides, the tee will have Ø110 mm, and on one side Ø50 mm.

For successful works, it is important to clearly consider the design of the drainage system from sewer pipes. To make the right purchase, it is recommended to draw up a project. For this you need:

  1. Measure the perimeter of the roof. Based on this data, you can understand how many gutters will need to be mounted. Consider the fact that the purchased pipes will be sawn in half, so you need to buy half as many pipes as the measurement will show.
  2. Consider a drainage system. This will require pipes Ø50 mm. Their number will be determined by the height of the building, as well as by the number of downpipes.

Note! The distance between the gutter risers on average should be at least 5 meters!

Installation work

For successful installation of a drainage system from sewer pipes, it is necessary to perform all the work in the following sequence.

First of all, plastic pipes Ø110 mm are sawn lengthwise. To do this, you can use the grinder. To make the gutters the same size, wooden templates are pre-made.

The inlet pipes on the pipes should not be sawn, a distance of 15–20 cm must be left.

When the drains are ready, it is necessary to proceed with the installation of brackets. They are mounted on supporting rafters.

Can be used as brackets prefabricated structures which are made of durable sheet metal. Also, brackets can be made independently, but this will take more time.

Note! The bracket is mounted on each of the walls. It is important to maintain a clear slope angle, otherwise the water will stagnate. As a rule, the slope angle is 1 cm per 1 meter of pipe.

First, mount the extreme brackets, and then pull the thread between them, which will help maintain the correct slope.

Next, mounts for the downpipe are installed.

Note! The drain pipe should extend from the wall by an average of 10 cm.

When all the fasteners are in place, you can assemble the drainage system into one. Gutters made from sewer pipes can be fastened together with aluminum clips or special glue for polypropylene. When using clips, each joint of the gutter must be treated with a sealant.

The assembly of the tee is carried out according to the same principle as the assembly of sewer pipes. For docking, also use sealant.

A plug is installed at the highest point of the drainage system.

You can assemble the entire structure on the ground or directly on the mounts. The choice is yours. Most importantly, follow all existing requirements regarding the assembly of a drainage system from sewer pipes.

Note! The key point will be the removal of the pipe away from the building. Otherwise, water will enter the foundation and gradually destroy it.

According to this principle, the installation of a drainage system on the roof is carried out.

Gutter construction on a flat roof

What if your house has a flat roof. Is it possible to use sewer pipes for the manufacture of a drainage system in this case as well? Yes! To do this, you must first embed the pipes in the masonry. In this case, external gutters and gutters will not be needed. The roof surface is initially made so that all the water is collected in one place. This is where the drain pipe will be installed. The only condition for using sewer pipes in this embodiment is to place them in insulation. This will prevent the occurrence a large number condensate.

Note! To protect the pipe from blockage, the funnel can be equipped with a protective grid.

Watch a helpful video and photo that will help you carry out the entire process.

Video

This video shows how to cut a plastic pipe lengthwise:

Throughout the Russian climate, frequent precipitation is far from uncommon. And therefore, it is customary to arrange a drain in dwellings, which controls and diverts these precipitations away from the roof itself. If the house stands for a long time without a drainage system, its basement, facade and walls are destroyed. There are longer-term consequences as well: a flooded basement, washed-out ground around the house, and other problems. That's why there should always be a drain!

But if you have just purchased a house or cottage and you have a limited budget, you can temporarily make a drain from sewer pipes with your own hands: this is not difficult, and in practice such a system will be reliable. But such small buildings as a gazebo, children's house in the garden or carport, a homemade drain is quite suitable as the main one. And we will teach you how to do it right!

Do you like the idea, but are you worried about how the sewer pipes will be able to withstand the external atmosphere? After all, they are designed to drain water from the house, and mostly underground, and it is unlikely that the manufacturer will take care of such plastic material well tolerated ultraviolet rays. But, in fact, many gardeners notice that gray and brown pipe trimmings feel great in the open sun for quite a few years.

Moreover, due to the relative cheapness of sewer pipes, you can build drains of the most complex shapes and for a variety of purposes from them:

Your homemade gutter will serve you faithfully no less than an industrial one if you choose the right material for it. Sewer pipes are completely different types, for different parts of the drainage system. After all, you know that the drain is internal and external, and the first is used mainly only for flat roofs. It is just well hidden from the sun's rays, and therefore almost any sewer pipes are suitable for its device.

But for a gable or shed roof it is important for you to learn to understand the material.

White pipes - for internal drains

White pipes are used for the installation of sewerage systems indoors. Their material is designed mainly for high water temperatures and has a high level of sound insulation.

It is possible to use white pipes as a drain only in those areas where the winter is warm and mild, because. such plastic will not withstand sudden changes in temperature. So for now, forget about this option.

Gray pipes - for warm winters

Gray pipes are the most common. They are also used inside the house, but their plastic is already stronger. It is designed for high temperatures, but does not tolerate frost and physical exertion.

Therefore, if you live in the southern regions of Russia, where the climate is quite mild and there are almost no frosts, it will not be a problem for you: how to make a drain from sewer pipes of this color and how long it will last you. Just do not forget to constantly clean them from snow and ice so that they do not crumble.

Brown pipes - for hard frosts

But brown pipes are used when installing sewerage systems already outside. They are distinguished by a thick wall, which remarkably tolerates sub-zero temperatures and high pressure water mass.

The only thing such pipes are not adapted to is the hot water temperature. After all, it is calculated that the sewage runoff from the house, before it enters the brown pipes, after the white and gray ones, is already cooling down, plus the cooler air temperature outside will complete its job. Such pipes perfectly tolerate loads from snow and ice, are strong enough, but do not withstand direct sunlight for a long time and become brittle over time.

Here's what a pretty drain is obtained from a brown sewer pipe:

Home craftsmen are especially pleased with the fact that the price of one sewer pipe is less than that of a gutter of the same length. But from one pipe you get two whole gutters!

How to design a future drainage system?

In terms of terms, a gutter system is a complex of gutters and pipes that collects and removes water from the roof. A gutter system, or drain, is also often called a separate gutter or pipe. And now let's figure out how to make a good drain for your home from the pipes you purchased. First you will need to draw up a sketch and calculate the dimensions of all the details.

How to make a gutter for a pitched roof?

So, you will need a certain number of gutters, which are easy to calculate based on the parameters of the roof perimeter. You will install brackets for every 10 meters, 17 pieces. The outlet has exactly the same length as the sum of the drain pipes. You will also need funnels, pipes, 1 piece for every 10 meters, corner elements, a plug, couplings (exactly 2 times fewer pieces than gutters), elbows, the number of which will depend on the complexity of the eastern system itself.

For you, the easiest option would be to simply draw a diagram of the future plumbing on a piece of paper. So, outlet pipes with funnels are usually installed every 12 meters. If the side of the house is smaller, place them in the corners, and only two of them will be enough. Take waste pipes with a diameter of 50 millimeters, and purchase an adapter tee 110 by 50 mm. The size of one plum can be 10 centimeters, which is quite enough for the roof of a private house. From one pipe you get two trays of the same size.

Next, you will need to muffle each end of the gutter. Take a revision plug or a regular one, cut into two parts. That's when you already have all the elements on the sheet - count the total number:

  • With a roof slope area of up to 50 square meters you will need a pipe with a diameter of 80 millimeters.
  • At 125 square meters, this is already 90 millimeters.
  • With more than 125 square meters, you need to take a pipe of 100 millimeters.

You will choose funnels and adapters, having already decided on the diameter of the pipes. Therefore, at this stage, already draw up a sketch of the future water supply and mark out suitable places for locating drains and mounting gutters. Once you have the whole scheme ready, you can purchase the material.

How to make a gutter for a flat roof?

So let's figure out how to make and install a drain from sewer pipes for flat roof. Yes it is possible! There is a big bonus here: the drain will be built into the wall, and it will not be outside. Therefore, sewer plastic is not afraid of either frost or destructive UV rays.

Your main task is to make sure that water flows easily from the roof to one place, in its center. That's where you just need to install a drainpipe, or even several. The only thing you have to take care of is to insulate such a pipe, or place it in special insulation so that condensate does not collect on it. And after installing the funnel, just cover it with a grate so that it does not clog.

How to make a mount for a homemade drain?

To secure a homemade drain, you will need brackets. You can purchase them ready-made or make them yourself. The only difference will be that many types of ready-made brackets are designed for the same ready-made downpipes.

See how their edges are folded over so that the bracket can easily snap onto them. But if you attach just a cut sewer pipe, it does not have such a rim on the side. And therefore, it is better to purchase one bracket for testing, and try on the pipe - will it hold? That is why, when making a homemade drain, many craftsmen make the brackets themselves - these are more suitable and often turn out to be even more reliable.

Ready-made brackets for drainage systems

Ready-made metal brackets must be bent using a special tool so as not to damage the polymer coating. After all, if there are small microcracks, water will easily get into them and corrosion will begin. And this already at times reduces the reliability of the entire drainage system!

And here are the finished plastic hooks on a homemade drainage system:

This mount is well suited for organizing the drainage of gazebos:

Homemade fasteners: we select and manufacture

And the strong fasteners that come with the sewer pipes are also quite suitable for the drainpipe. Moreover, they are designed to withstand the weight of water, and therefore more durable, and go well with the color of the pipes themselves:

If you're going to make the mount yourself, you'd better get a special hook bender, or at least a small vise. Once you've hammered in one hook, bring it up to the overhang and check the angle of the hook. The chute mounted on it should then be located strictly perpendicular to the ground. It is important to bend the bracket so that the front edge of the gutters is only 2mm below the rear. Only in this way the water, if it overflows the gutter, will come out through the outer screens, and will not flow along the walls of the house.

Bending hooks with a regular vise is exhausting. The fact is that the clicks of the vise do not completely clamp the holder. Therefore, experienced craftsmen prefer to make a tool for bending metal gutter holders on their own. Here is the simplest instruction:

  • Step 1. We take an ordinary metal corner with a wall thickness of at least 6 mm, or a channel of the same parameters.
  • Step 2. In the channel grinder, a slot of such a length that it is equal to the width of the gutter holder.
  • Step 3. We take a square pipe in which the inner walls are slightly larger than the width of the gutter holder.
  • Step 4. Now on all the holders we mark the places of the fold. After that, we put the holder into the square pipe, take wooden block and forcefully insert it inside the pipe.
  • Step 5. We set the required bend angle.
  • Step 6. Now insert the holder into the slot and align it with the marked fold point.
  • Step 7. Now we knock out the bar with another piece of wood from the opposite end of the pipe.
  • Step 8. If there was already paint on the handle, it will also crack a little, but it can be corrected. But in the final result, the quality of the joke will be much higher than that of those curved with a vice.

By the way, here is a wonderful master class on how to make such hooks even faster and easier:

Another interesting option bend hook:

  • Step 1. We make a grinder with a very small risk with a depth of 1 to 2 millimeters.
  • Step 2. We nail one nail or one self-tapping screw through the hook into the rafter and bend the hook itself. It will bend exactly along the filed line, and will not break over time.

Once all the fasteners are ready, go around your house and see how you best fix it all.

Of course, it is desirable to install the gutter before you cover the roof. The following illustration will help you understand the installation of the mount:

Converting pipes into drains

Now let's prepare the sewer pipes themselves. You will need to cut them lengthwise. From one pipe you will get two excellent identical complaints. In practice, everything is quite simple! To make the cut smooth, follow these instructions:

  • Step 1. Lay the pipe on the boards, and attach the wall at the bottom with a self-tapping screw at both ends.
  • Step 2. Connect the screws with a thick thread and mark the place where you will cut the pipe with a permanent marker.
  • Step 3. Remove the thread and cut the pipe with a grinder.
  • Step 4 Now do the same on the other side. The only difference will be that now you will need two self-tapping screws.

Here is a great step by step master class:

Our advice: if you work with a grinder, be careful! The melted plastic is actually very hot, and can even burn your hands. Yes, and flying particles can hurt the eyes. Therefore, when cutting sewer pipes, be sure to wear gloves and goggles. As home craftsmen note, sewer pipes are also easily cut with a jigsaw or wood saw, and all the difficulty lies only in the correct marking of the longitudinal marks for cutting. But it is most convenient, of course, to make gutters from sewer pipes with a grinder with a thin circle for metal.

And connect finished items simple enough:

You will be interested to know that instead of ugly vertical pipes, you can use ... chains. This is quite a popular way! The principles of such a drain are quite simple: the chain must be firmly connected to the gutter and the base.

At the same time, it is pulled so that it cannot move to the side, and for this, it is most often buried in a concrete base or in the ground. A small canopy protects the facade from water splashes. Looks amazing!

The advantage of such "drains" is that they are less visible against the background of the house and do not interfere with its exterior. In addition, they are usually complemented by spectacular decorative elements. Moreover, today it is fashionable not just to lower the chains down, but to create complex spatial forms from them, and even alternate with decorative bowls made of ceramics or plastic.

The only inconvenience is that modern manufacturers of plastic gutters do not produce special elements for connecting the gutters to the chain. But, since you make your own drain, and you yourself are already acting as a manufacturer, then there is no limit to your imagination! And it's convenient: you will have to tinker with cutting and connecting only the horizontal elements of the drainage system, and lower the elements of beauty already down. Why not?

Stage # 2 - installation work

Now we will install our drain from the sewer pipes:

  • Step 1. To begin with, the shortest and longest bracket must be fixed to the front board of the eaves.
  • Step 2. After that, connect the gutters with a slope of 3 mm for every 50 cm, so that rainwater arrived at the center. Please note that the edge of the roof must necessarily fall in the middle of the gutter so that snow and ice do not damage the gutters in winter and the rainwater itself hits the target.
  • Step 3. Once all horizontal gutters are ready, install pipes to drain water.
  • Step 4. Fix such pipes to the wall, and leave a gap of 20 to 80 centimeters between them and complaints. Here there will be a tee and an elbow, which will provide the transition from the gutter to the pipe.
  • Step 5. Now cut two pieces of pipe 5 centimeters each, which will serve as your connectors. Install each connector and secure with self-tapping screws. Lubricate silicone sealant attachment points to protect them from rainwater.
  • Step 6 Fasten the vertical pipes to the wall using brackets with clamps. For each meter of such pipes, you will need only two fasteners, which is not at all a lot.
  • Step 7. And at the very end of the pipe, below, install the elbow. This is necessary so that water does not get under the foundation. It should be located at least 30 cm from the wall.
  • Step 8. And finally, close the end of the gutter with plugs, which you simply cut in half.

This is how the installation of a drain on plastic hooks looks like:

When installing the drain, do not clamp all the details too tightly: a little mobility is needed so that the whole structure changes slightly under the influence of temperatures.

Fasten all gutters to the brackets with self-tapping screws. And so that later the pipes do not twist under the influence of sunlight, fix them with antennae on the brackets, or install spacers.

At the stage of final work, you will need to think about how to connect your homemade gutter system to the storm sewer. To do this, an audit should be made on the downpipe - this is a segment with a hatch and gratings that will collect all the garbage from the gutters. After all, it is important that only rainwater then goes into the sewer, without all this goodness, and does not clog the subsequent more complex system.

There are also alternatives: connect additional drainage pipes, and those will already communicate with the sewer or with the storm water inlet. The advantage of the latter is that it has a valve that does not let in odors and collects large debris in a special removable basket.

Some subtleties and nuances that are important to know

When installing a homemade drainage system from sewer pipes, keep in mind that all PVC products change their physical parameters with temperature changes. Therefore, it is very important that the gutters can move freely in the brackets. And for this, try to leave at least 9 centimeters from the junction of the gutters to the bracket. Also, the ends of the gutters must be tightly joined.

So that your downpipes, made so carefully with your own hands, do not get dirty and clogged with foliage, install a regular one on top. plastic mesh. It will pass water, but leaves and branches will not:

The owner of a finished industrial drainage system usually does not think about it, believing that manufacturers always take everything into account themselves. But when you do something with your own hands, you always want to do it with high quality, and you won’t forget about such details.

Why it turns out in practice that often home-made drainage systems turn out to be both stronger and more durable. Moreover, some craftsmen also manage to be creative, for example, to get water into their garage with the help of a drain - catch a great idea:

If you live in a region with snowy winters, install an additional heating cable in the gutters. Do not worry about the material of the sewer pipes: they are just designed for temperatures above average, so the cable will not harm them in any way.

There is another important rule: do not install gutters at temperatures below zero. After all, when the air temperature rises higher with the onset of spring, the pipes will simply twist. In any case, even just in cool weather, it is important to calculate all expansion joints and gaps so that the system does not “play” later.

Usually this does not happen because the industrial versions of the drainage systems have special serifs inside the parts that help to correctly connect the elements at a specific air temperature. But in the case of sewer pipes, you have to do everything on a whim.

Issues of aesthetics and stylistic unity

There is such an interesting architectural element- gargoyles. These are the heads or bodies of fantastic animals with open mouths, which usually end in a gutter. In other words, these are "terribly cute animals" on your roof.

Of course, in a finished industrial gutter system, such decorative aspects are rarely implemented, there is more emphasis on practicality. But, if you make a drain yourself, why not design it more spectacular, agree?

The purpose of the roof over the house does not need to be explained. One of the functions is to protect the attic or attic from precipitation, i.e. from water leakage. But, flowing down the slopes of the roof, water inevitably falls on the walls and foundation. As a result, the load-bearing elements of the building structure are destroyed very quickly.

The destructive effect of water can be avoided by installing a roof drainage system. Before we start the master class on installing gutters, a little theory.

Types of drainage systems

The drainage system has two signs of classification, which determine the technology of its installation:

1. According to the method of manufacture - home-made, industrial.

Handicraft production, i.e. homemade gutter from the roof. This system is supported by facts such as the ability to make a beautiful and unusual gutter with your own hands. Making a homemade system does not involve significant costs. In addition, it can be mounted according to a user-friendly scheme. The undoubted disadvantage is the need for constant maintenance, since gutters are usually made of galvanized steel, which quickly rots. Among the conditional shortcomings are the difficulty of docking individual elements and mediocre appearance.

Factory production (factory). This method involves maintaining all standards and parameters. That is, if necessary, you can easily join different elements from different supplies of the same manufacturer.

2. According to the material used - plastic, metal.

According to the installation method, an adhesive system is distinguished (installation takes place using glue) and glueless (installation on sealing rubber bands).

Advantages of plastic gutters:

  • immunity to ultraviolet. High-quality plastic drainage system will not burn out during the entire period of operation;
  • not subject to corrosion;
  • the adhesive system does not require maintenance, since the “cold welding” method is used, during which the elements are connected at the molecular level;
  • strength;
  • light weight;
  • operating temperature -40°С +70°С;
  • ease of installation;
  • the presence of different colors;
  • a wide variety of components allows you to create a gutter system of the desired configuration, which makes it indispensable for installation on broken roofs.

Disadvantages of PVC gutters:

  • plastic can be destroyed by mechanical stress. Therefore, such systems cannot be installed on high-rise buildings. Gutter system from plastic it is mounted only on a low-rise private house;
  • repair failure. A destroyed element cannot be restored;
  • a plastic drainage system with sealing rubber bands requires periodic replacement of seals, which entails disassembly / assembly of elements;
  • high coefficient of linear expansion.

The gutter system from a metal profile has several varieties: galvanized, copper, galvanized with polymer coated(painted). The main difference between them is the cost and duration of operation. The appearance is shown in the photo.

Advantages of metal gutters:

  • strength;
  • reliability;
  • withstand significant snow loads and other environmental influences;
  • do not support combustion;
  • operating temperature -60°С +130°С;
  • dimensional stability.

Disadvantages of metal gutters:

  • high price;
  • significant weight of the entire system;
  • complexity of installation;
  • small selection of colors;
  • the appearance of rust when the protective layer is damaged (an exception is a copper drainage system);
  • a small number of elements makes it suitable only for installation on roofs with angles of 90°.

Which drainage system is better, plastic or metal, it is difficult to answer unambiguously, it all depends on the specific operating conditions and other factors. In any case, the choice of a drainage system should be based on quality indicators, not price.

From the position of this classification, we will consider how to properly mount the drainage system with our own hands.

Installation of a drainage system - instructions

Like any construction process, the technology of installing gutters includes the selection of a system, material and calculations.

There are several options for drainage systems, depending on their throughput. For example, 100/75, 125/90, 150/110. This marking shows the ratio of the diameter of the pipe and gutter. Visual system round section 125/100 and square section - in the photo.

Advice. Each manufacturer has its own dimensions of gutters, pipes. Their configuration is also different. Therefore, do not even try to dock systems from different manufacturers.

Such a variety of systems is necessary so that each user can choose the one that suits his needs.

Choosing a drainage system

To choose the right water drainage system you need:

  • get acquainted with the maximum level of precipitation in your area;
  • calculate the area of the slope (S). Not all, but the largest in size. It is its size that will determine the choice of gutter

S \u003d (A + B / 2) x C

Nuance. For flat roofs(the slope angle does not exceed 10°) the formula takes the form
S = A x C

Based on these measurements, select the desired system in the table.

After the system is selected, you need to determine the type and calculate the amount of materials. To do this, we will prepare drawings or diagrams of planes with dimensions. They will simplify the calculation and then the installation of the drainage system.

Calculation of the drainage system

We will illustrate, using the example of a house, how to calculate the amount of materials for installing a drainage system.

Gutter gutter - semicircular (semicircular section) and rectangular (rectangular section).

Designed to collect precipitation (rain and melt water) from the roof.

The length of the gutter is 3-4 m. It is fixed with the help of hooks and brackets, which are installed in steps of 60-90 cm, ensuring that the slope of the gutter is at least 1 cm for every 3-4 meters.

Their number in linear meters is equal to the perimeter of the base of the roof. That is, the length of all surfaces on which the gutter will be mounted. Gutter dimensions - sold by the piece in 3 and 4 m.p.

For a house the size of our example, you will need 3-meter gutters - 10 pcs. 4 meters - 1 pc.

Nuance. Round all dimensions to the nearest whole gutter length. The fewer connections, the easier, more reliable and cheaper the installation will end up.

  • Gutter angles (external (external) and internal, 90 and 135 degrees).

The corner gutter is designed to change the direction (distribution) of water flows. Mounting method: mounted on the outer and inner corners of the roof.

We will need 4 outside corners and 2 inside corners, all 90 degrees.

If a house or cottage has sharp or obtuse corners, you need to choose the system in which such corners exist.

Advice. A variety of angles can be made from a plastic gutter by cutting out part of the gutter and connecting the halves at the desired angle. Parts are connected using glue - cold welding.

  • Gutter funnels, connectors, gutter plugs.

For our example - 4 funnels, 2 plugs. Connectors can be - 5 or 17. Depending on the features of the installation of a particular system. In most drainage systems, corners are fastened directly to the gutter. But in some - with the use of a connector.

In drainage systems where installation is carried out with the use of glue, conventional connectors and expansion joints should be used.

Compensatory is installed with a roof length of more than 8 r.m. Its installation is carried out without the use of glue. Such a connector is designed to compensate for the linear expansion of the gutter during heating / cooling. For our example, 4 regular connectors and one compensating one would be required.

Advice. One funnel receives water from 10 m.p. gutters. If the length of the wall is longer - you need to put two funnels. In our example, we did just that. In this case, the distance between two adjacent funnels cannot exceed 20 m.p.

  • Gutter hooks.

Hooks can be long or short. The first are designed to hang the gutter on the rafters and are attached before installation. roofing material. The second (short) ones are used for attaching the gutter to the frontal board, respectively, it is possible to install it on a finished roof, i.e. covered with roofing material.

The gutter fastening hook is installed at intervals of 60 cm. At the same time, installation is mandatory near corners, funnels, plugs and at junctions. In our example - 68 hooks.

  • Downspouts (for vertical drain), pipe fittings/brackets.

The pipe can be round and rectangular. Designed for vertical water flow.

The pipe bracket is designed to fix the pipe to the wall. According to the installation method, they distinguish “on a stone” (for fixing on a brick, stone or concrete wall. Fixation by means of a hardware) and "on a tree" (for fixing on wooden walls(beam, log, OSB). fixing with screws).

The number of pipes is determined by the number of funnels. In our example, there are 4 funnels, which means there are also 4 pipe installation sites. their length is equal to the total length of all walls along which the installation is planned. Pipes are also sold in lengths of 3 and 4 m. You need to round up, since the joints on the pipe are also undesirable. Those. if you have a house height of 3.5 m, you need to buy a 4 m pipe. 0.5 will go to waste or for other needs.

Pipe fasteners are installed every meter. At the same time, their installation near the knees is mandatory.

  • Pipe elbow, drain (drain elbow).

If the design of the house is similar to that shown in the photo, then for each riser (we have 4 of them) we need two universal elbows (8 in total) and one drain (4 in total).

Distance L is measured as shown in the figure.

The material was prepared for the site www.site

Nuance. makes some adjustments to the calculation of the drainage system. The height of the attic wall affects the number and installation of gutters. The diagrams below show what needs to be taken into account when calculating.

Installation of a drainage system made of plastic (PVC)

1. Installation of drain funnels (roofing, storm, water intake) on the roof.

The gutter hooks closest to the funnel are installed at a distance of 2 cm from it. They serve as holders.

Advice. The angle of inclination with respect to the funnel is 2° or 3-4 mm. by 1 m. It is convenient to check the slope with the help of a nylon thread.

With a wall length of 10 to 20 meters, it is more advisable to install the gutter in the following ways:

  • Simple slope (straight) - the funnel is installed at the end of the ramp.
  • Double slope: "from the middle" or "towards the middle."

In the first case, the middle groove is in highest point, and the water moves to the funnels located at the corners of the building. In the second case, two extreme gutters are at the highest point and the water moves to a funnel located in the middle between them. If the length of the gutter exceeds 22 meters, three funnels or a more powerful system are installed.

3. Mounting of the common and compensatory gutter connector (if necessary).

Gutter connectors are installed between the brackets. Equal distance from them.

4. Cut the gutter into blanks of the desired length. It is desirable to clean the place of the cut.

5. Connection of gutters with a funnel. The gutter is laid on brackets adjacent to the funnel, taking into account the linear expansion of the plastic.

The hole for the funnel can be drilled in the right place of the gutter using a crown.

Some manufacturers label funnels in such a way as to simplify installation. That is, the temperature scale is indicated on the side of the funnel. After checking the temperature overboard, the chute is set at the desired level.

In adhesive systems, the funnel is one of the elements that does not use adhesive when installing.

If provided, at the junction of the gutter and funnel, a sealing gum is installed.

When laying the gutter, the connector must be smeared with glue or sealed with an elastic band.

The compensation connector is mounted without the use of glue.

Nuance. In order for the water to flow in a given direction, it is better to make a “teardrop” at the end of the drain pipe.

7. Installation of corners and plugs for the gutter is carried out according to the same scheme.

Both the corner and the plug are mounted using glue or sealing rubber bands.

8. Fastening clamps and installation of downpipes.

At the calculated distance, holes are drilled for fastening the clamp.

The installation of the pipe begins with the installation of the elbow (if necessary) or the pipe in the funnel.

Glue or rubber seal is required.

Nuance. The lower pipe is inserted into the upper one with a gap of 2 mm. (linear expansion compensation).

The pipe is attached to the wall with a clamp. Which is installed in pre-drilled holes.

If necessary, a system of splitters (tees) is mounted.

The ebb must be mounted so that the water from it does not destroy the foundation of the house. For example, an outflow diverts water into a drainage system channel or directly into a drainage well.

Installation of a metal drainage system

Step-by-step guide, instructions for installing gutters for a roof made of metal profiles with your own hands.

1. Installation of two extreme brackets.

They can be installed on truss system or at cornice plank(frontal).

Advice. For a normal outflow of water from the roof, the angle of inclination of the gutter towards the funnel should be 3-4 mm per 1.m.

The bracket is mounted on three self-tapping screws.

With a wall length of more than 10 m, a simple (straight) slope is performed. If the length is more than 10 m - double.

2. Open the gutters.

The place of the saw is cleaned with a file.

Advice. The movement of the saw is carried out in the direction "away from you".

3. Cutting a hole for the funnel.

Advice. The diameter of the hole should be slightly larger than the diameter of the funnel.

Is it possible to save money on a drainage system? In search of cheap options for organizing rainwater drainage, craftsmen are trying to make parts for gutters on their own, from improvised means: plastic containers, galvanized steel sheets, pipes. Is this saving justified? Which is more profitable: buy factory parts or make your own? How long will a homemade gutter last? In any case, there are only 2 ways to spend less:

  1. Save on installation and assemble and install the drain yourself.
  2. Figure out how to make a funnel and gutter from improvised materials, and design your own system.

Copper gutter system

System calculation: home drain planning

At the planning stage, markings are made - they mark the installation sites of horizontal (gutters) and vertical (gutters) lines. After determining the footage, the number of additional parts that are needed to assemble the system is calculated: fasteners, plugs, connectors, funnels and adapters.

Gutter footage and number of funnels: how to calculate correctly

The number of horizontal lines depends on the design of the roof and the length of the slopes. The simplest system of two gutters and two downpipes - best option for a gable roof with a total area of up to 100 sq. m and a slope length not exceeding 10 m.

Scheme for calculating the number of drain lines

In this case, there is no need to make a double slope from the center. And you can make a gutter for a drain both from ready-made and from home-made parts. The length of the horizontal tray is equal to the length of the slope. Diameter - 10 - 12 cm. The slope of the drain is up to 2 - 3 mm per linear meter. Factory parts are produced in standard length - 3 m.

The number of funnels designed to drain water from the tray into the downpipe is equal to the number of horizontal lines. If the length of the straight section is more than 10 - 12 meters, then 2 funnels and 2 drainpipes are installed at the edges.

Basic installation parameters for gutters

If the total number of funnels in the planned scheme is two, then it is easy to calculate the length of the drainpipes. The height of the building from the lower edge of the roof to ground level is multiplied by 2.

When planning more complex structures calculations are performed for straight lines, gutters and plan installation in difficult areas (on ledges, in corners) with the selection of special products - corner connectors.

Additional details: mounting hooks and connectors

To make a gutter for a drain, you will additionally need:

  • 2 plugs per horizontal line.
  • Connectors - every 3 m if finished parts are connected.
  • Brackets - 10 m - 20 pcs. The distance between the hooks should be within 50 - 60 cm.

Hooks are selected depending on the type of fastening. If a strong gable board is installed under the roof slope, not sheathed with clapboard, it is more convenient to install the box on short brackets.

When fixing to the rafter sheathing, ready-made adjustable or non-adjustable hooks with an extension are selected. Such fasteners can be made independently from strips of thick steel 3–4 cm wide.

To connect the funnel to the pipe, you will need 2 elbows of 40 o to bring the drain to the pipe installation line. To fix the pipe to the walls, special holders or clamps are used. Connect pipes with connectors.

Which is cheaper: make gutters yourself or buy ready-made ones

After calculating the number of parts and the total length of the horizontal and vertical branches, you can choose: from what and how to make a gutter and drain funnels in order to both save money and install a system that will last at least 10 years.

Plastic PVC designs

The easiest way to make your own gutter is to assemble a line of prefabricated PVC trays and connectors. Plastic systems cheaper than metal-polymer. Processing and installation do not require special skills. The material is easily cut with a hacksaw, the kit includes all the necessary connectors. Assembly does not require professional tools.

The advantage of PVC gutters is aesthetics. It is possible to choose a system in tone with roofing or upholstery color roof space. The material does not fade in the sun, withstands significant temperature changes.

Metal-polymer parts

Metallo plastic gutters- These are steel products in a polymer shell. The cost of metal parts is higher than plastic ones. Service life of a drain - from 30 years. The material has high strength - withstands loads during the convergence and melting of snow, does not crack in frost. Used in drainage systems without restrictions on temperature regime.

Working with metal-polymer parts requires preparation. Cutting molded products is carried out exclusively with special scissors or a hacksaw for metal. The use of cutting discs is not allowed - the material must not be overheated during processing.

Products are transported in a protective film. When assembling, care must be taken - damage to the polymer layer must not be allowed.

The only drawback of the metal-polymer gutter is the noise of the gutters. If you plan to install a drain on a low house with an attic, quiet polymer trays are preferred.

Do-it-yourself materials for making gutter parts

To make a funnel drain and a gutter with your own hands, use galvanized steel and plastic pipes for external sewage.

Steel factory gutter

Galvanized steel is sold in the form of sheets. To make parts, you need certain skills in working with metal. A system assembled from handicraft products will not be durable - during cutting, a thin zinc layer is damaged, and the edges at the cutting point remain without an anti-corrosion coating.

To work with steel you will need:

  • A special bending machine or wooden blanks to be used as the basis for forming the gutter.

Bending the sheet wooden base

  • Scissors or grinder for cutting.

The sheets are cut according to the planned dimensions, bent in shape and the edge is folded in the form of a fold for the subsequent connection of the part.

The parts of the box are connected to each other in two ways: by hot soldering or by installing steel connectors, which are fixed with screws.

It is unprofitable to make gutters from steel sheets on your own. Flaws:

  • Difficulties with the connection due to inaccuracies in the geometry of the parts.

Special machine for working with steel

  1. Short service life - before the appearance of holes in a handicraft assembled box, a maximum of 2 - 3 years pass.
  2. The process is laborious and time consuming.

It is better to try to assemble a simple system of sewer pipes. Select parts intended for installation outside: pipes for external sewerage - orange. You will have to put up with the color - white or gray pipes are designed for indoor installation, the material of manufacture does not have frost resistance, resistance to ultraviolet radiation and high temperature. Taking into account the fact that in summer the drain is under direct sunlight at a temperature of 40 degrees, and in winter - at 20 degrees below zero, pipes for internal work will not be able to last even 1 season.

Details for self-manufacturing drain

For work you will need:

  • Half of the planned footage of gutters in the form of orange sewer pipes with a diameter of 100 mm.
  • Pipe couplings - according to the number of connection points on horizontal branches.

Gutter coupling

  • Pipes for a drain in an amount equal to the estimated footage of drains.
  • Adapters with a tap to make do-it-yourself funnels for a drain.

Tee with 90° elbow - for funnel

  • Elbows: 2 for each funnel.

knees with different angles used for installation when changing direction: in corners, under a funnel

  • Sealant for plastic - frost-resistant and moisture-resistant, for outdoor use. You can use an acrylic or silicone based adhesive.

For convenient work and quick installation, you can choose pipes of the same diameter for gutters and drains and thus save on waste.

How to make a gutter and fix the funnel with your own hands

For assembly and fastening of horizontal sections of the drain, you will need simple tools:

  • A ruler with a level, chalk or pencil, fishing line or thread.
  • Screwdriver, self-tapping screws.

Mounting brackets: installation of ready-made and homemade mounts

First of all, it is necessary to fix the brackets under the roof - hooks that hold the trays.

When using short non-adjustable brackets, mark the extreme point on the gable board where the first fastener will be fixed. The distance from the edge of the roof is up to 15 cm. From this point, a line with a slope is formed. The distance to the last fastener in meters is multiplied by 2. The resulting value is the height difference in millimeters between the first and last bracket.

Hook to end distance

Example. If the distance between the hooks is 8 m, then the height difference is: 8 x 2 = 16 mm. This is the minimum allowable slope value. Maximum - 8 x 3 = 24 mm.

Slope and calculation of the number of brackets

The installation points of the extreme elements are connected. Brackets are attached along the marked line in increments of 50 cm.

If hooks with extension strips are installed, then after fixing the first bracket to the flooring, measure the distance between the top edge of the board and the middle of the hook. From this point, a slope is formed towards the funnel.

An easy way to do the right slope

To simplify the process, you can mark the fold directly on the extension strips. Lay out a series of numbered hooks end to end. Draw a straight line from the first bend point. On the extreme bracket, measure the required slope value and put a mark below the first line. Connect to a dot on the first element. During installation, the hooks are attached to the line, and according to the marking, the extension cord is simply bent.

Mounting brackets with extensions

Assembly of plastic and metal-plastic structures

Plastic trays are interconnected using special parts. The junction points are calculated so that the distance from the edge of the connector to the hook is at least 2 cm. If connectors with rubber seals are selected, then the gutter is installed so that there is a gap of 5–6 cm between the edges of the two connected trays. This distance is sufficient for free movement details during thermal expansion.

The second method is glue. The connector is treated with an adhesive: 3 strips of sealant are applied. Two - at the edges and one central. The groove is pressed against the connector, the adhesive residue is removed.

Plastic plugs are installed along the edges of the line.

Plugs, funnel and brackets at the edge of the line

The funnel is mounted according to the connector principle. Make sure that the distance from the outermost bracket to the edge of the funnel is up to 5 cm. If the factory funnel is equipped with a sealant, then additional sealing is not carried out.

The connection is made on brackets or parts connected on the ground are installed if 2 craftsmen work.

Instructions for the manufacture and assembly of PVC pipes

When choosing sewer pipes for a homemade drain, pay attention to 2 important moments:

  1. Choose products of the middle price category - preferably from frost-resistant PVC for laying in the ground.
  2. Do not skimp on connectors - they should be of the same material as the pipes (orange, for outdoor installation), from the same manufacturer.

How to make a gutter from an ordinary sewer pipe? Cut along the pipe exactly in the center: you will get two gutters 3 m long. For gutters, it is better to buy pipes without connecting sockets.

Gutter slope from sewer pipes

For cutting, use a hacksaw, a jigsaw, or a grinder with a disk (preferably with large teeth).

Tray with roof connector

The couplings are also cut in half - 2 gutter connectors are obtained. There is a seal inside the coupling - it is cut separately and placed in the part.

Marking for cutting pipes and joining parts

Joints must be sealed with acrylic or silicone construction sealant.

What to make a stub? When buying tees for funnels, choose products with decorative lids. The lid must be cut into 2 halves, glued with sealant to the edges of the tray.

Tee with factory threaded cap

Just like the connector, cut upper part tee. The product is cut so that the outlet is under the gutter. Fix the funnel on the sealant or screws. A knee is attached to the lower branch with a bell facing upwards.

Artistic homemade funnel from a sewer tee

The pipe is assembled from pipes with connecting sockets. On the top pipe, you need to install a branch at 40 - 90 ° to connect the drain to the gutter. Measure the length of the segment between the knees. Cut off a piece of pipe without sockets and connect the system.

In the lower part, a branch is installed - a knee, the part is cut so that the drain falls into the center of the storm water inlet or into the ground, at a distance of up to 40 - 50 cm from the edge of the blind area.

Video: how to make a gutter for a drain from a sewer pipe

Is it worth saving on plumbing? If the roof structure is simple gable or four-pitched, you can save on installation work. Savings on material is highly questionable. Given that even expensive outdoor sewer pipes are designed for installation in the ground, and not in the open air, then it is impossible to predict how long a home-made system will last. In addition to fragility, there is another drawback: a very controversial appearance of the structure. Such drains are suitable only for temporary outbuildings in the country.

Budget plastic gutters are designed for year-round use in all weather conditions. Special connectors, brackets and adapters will facilitate the installation process. And if you choose glueless connectors, then you can assemble the system in a couple of hours.
