Standard sizes for sofa legs. What are standard sofa sizes? How to choose product dimensions

Project development.

The external view (draft design) of case products (or a block of products) is drawn on a scale of 1:10 or 1:5 in two or three projections, depending on the complexity of the product. The drawing must contain fundamental architectural, artistic and constructive solutions that give a general idea of the finish, device and principle of operation of the product, its aesthetics and basic dimensions. According to the preliminary design, the simplest working documentation is further developed.

The simplest working documentation includes general arrangement drawings developed according to the preliminary design. A draft design for bar furniture products can not be developed, but replaced with drawings general view.

The number of sections in the general arrangement drawings should be sufficient to obtain a complete picture of the product design.

In the drawing, circles drawn by solid thin lines show extensions that must be drawn on an enlarged scale. The number of remote elements depends on the complexity of the product and should be sufficient in each case to assemble the product. Drawings of remote elements are developed for connections made with the help of spikes, various metal or plastic fasteners, and for complex profiles that require additional graphic explanation.

After the development of the drawings, a product specification is made. The specification includes parts made from boards, plywood, metals, plastics, as well as fasteners (screws, nails) and fittings.

The main dimensions of furniture products are chosen in accordance with the dimensions of the human body (anthropometric data), as well as with the dimensions of the items for which the furniture is intended to be stored. Taking into account anthropometric data, most furniture sizes are standardized.

Some anthropometric data of the human figure at rest, in motion and during the operation of furniture.

The comfort of products-supports is due to the size of the human body. In addition, they take into account the relationship between the sizes of various products, the correct choice of their individual parameters. So, the height of the seat of the chair from the floor depends on the height of the table: with a table height of 720-780 mm, a chair with a seat height of 420-480 mm is comfortable, the height of the table for typing can be reduced to 680 mm.

The width of the seats in the widest part of the chairs is at least 360 mm, for work chairs - 400 mm. If chairs and work chairs are made with backs that have curvature, then the radius of curvature of the lumbar (not more than 320 mm high) backs is 220 mm, ordinary (more than 320 mm high) backs is 450 mm.

Auxiliary information.

The dimensions of the sofas are determined by medical standards. For a person to maintain his health and comfort, a place of at least 50 cm in width in a sitting position and from 70 cm in a lying position should be allocated. Based on these and other characteristics, sofas of approximately the same dimensions are produced. Dimensions vary depending on the product model. Be careful when choosing the right dimensions.

The height visually expands the space around the furniture.

The height of the sofa with two seats is from 80 to 100 centimeters. The length varies from 2 to 2.5 meters. The second variation is inherent in a one and a half size product. When adding modules to the sofa, an increase of 50-70 cm may appear. The depth of the furniture is a little less than a meter: 80-90 centimeters. There are models that provide a low hard back, but offer a soft pillow above its level as the main support. Then, with a product height of 60 cm, the actual size of the back wall can be 90-100 cm.

Based on the characteristics, sofas of approximately the same dimensions are produced.

Sofas can be trimmed down to a depth of 70 cm.

Triple variations

A sofa with three seats is less popular than a two-seater. But it has more variations: it can be both a modular version and a corner one. The standard length is up to 3 meters, more often 2.5.

When adding modules to the sofa, an addition of 50-70 cm may appear.

Corner furniture

The depth of the protruding part of the additional module is 0.6 or more of the total width of the sofa. Dimensions start at 80 centimeters, and the maximum width of unassembled furniture is 100 cm. Corner furniture can be both three- and four-seater. The maximum length of such a sofa is 3.5 meters. The height of the backrest is the greatest: up to 110 cm, but be careful - this variation can block the bottom of the windows.

How to choose product dimensions

When choosing the size of the sofa, be reasonable. You need to be based on:

  • room possibilities;
  • interior design;
  • the required capacity of the sofa.

The optimal increase for a sofa for each family member is 70 cm disassembled, 50 cm assembled.

In fact, there is hardly enough space on it, so be more wasteful: it is better to buy additional modules or use more spacious models.

(from the book by A.A. Bartoshevich "Technology of furniture production")

Assuming to purchase such an interior item as a sofa, the buyer will definitely focus on one of the main parameters when choosing it - size. Many people buy upholstered furniture, intending to use it as a bed. Therefore, in order to choose the ideal option, it is also important to take into account the parameters of the room where the furniture will be located.

Features and Benefits

Before you buy a sofa, you need to decide on its functional purpose. When using furniture as an additional place to sleep, it is necessary to take into account its transformation (transformation) into a bed. Sofas can be classified according to their size according to their shape and the way they are laid out. Based on this, the form distinguishes:

  • corner
  • Direct
  • Modular
  • Island

Another sign of the classification of sofas is the presence or absence of a transformation mechanism. In modular and island sofas, such a mechanism is not provided, however, angular and straight models suggest both the presence of a transformation device and its absence.

In terms of size, non-folding sofas have compact dimensions and a fairly low price, but they are less functional and fit only for sitting. Such models are perfect for the kitchen, a small living room, as well as an office.

If you plan to use the sofa as a place to sleep, you should pay attention to folding models, which are highly functional, but have larger overall dimensions than in non-folding products. Also, buyers will be pleased with the presence of a linen box in some models, which will become an additional niche for things. However, it should be borne in mind that this furniture is less mobile, and the constant use of the transformation mechanism into a bed leads to its rapid wear. Therefore, the choice of the folding method is one of the decisive factors when buying a sofa, as well as determining the necessary parameters.

When preparing for the purchase of a sofa, each buyer individually highlights the main and secondary criteria, with the help of which he can choose the ideal option for himself.

corner

This type of sofa, like a corner sofa, has the largest dimensions due to its shape and is suitable only for a spacious room. In advance, you need to consider how much space the sofa occupies in the unfolded state so that it does not block, for example, a passage or a chest of drawers. The corner side serves as an additional couch, on which you can either sit or reclining. Often this part is used as a place for reading, since a bedside table or a floor lamp can easily fit on the side. In this type, a large linen box is provided, which will become an additional niche for both bed linen and any other things.

The dimensions of such products are quite diverse - from 140 cm to two meters or more, and the depth, on average, is 60-80 cm. It all depends on the transformation mechanism. In such models, such folding methods are provided as "Dolphin", "puma".

When ordering this type of sofa, the buyer is also given the opportunity to choose a design that provides for the presence of armrests or a variant in which this element is absent.

Direct

When choosing a direct sofa, it is worth considering the room where it will be installed. For the kitchen, an oversized option will be an excellent choice, which will serve as an additional interior decoration. When choosing a sofa in the living room, the estimated number of guests is taken into account, so the designs are selected more spacious. The parameters of furniture are selected based on the desire of the client - from 130 cm and above, depending on its purpose. A bed in straight models is provided both along and across, which depends on the way it is turned into a place to sleep.

The practicality of sofas with a mechanism such as "book", "click-clack", "accordion" is that when unfolded, they increase exactly twice, without taking up extra space. And, for example, a roll-out sofa type "Dolphin" or "cot" assumes the presence of a perpendicular bed, occupying a fairly large space in front of the sofa. A positive feature of the latter is the small width of the structure when folded.

Sofas consisting of several modules, are a godsend for people who like to often rearrange furniture, because such a sofa will not only allow you to move it without problems, but also change its shape. Such models are presented in different overall dimensions, it all depends on the number of modules. The disadvantages are the high cost of such furniture, as well as the lack of a bed.

Everything modern sofas differ in comfort and functionality, but do not forget that the main thing when buying is to choose the right parameters for upholstered furniture in order to purchase the perfect option for the room. Equal are the materials used for upholstery, as well as the filler of the sofa. They must be safe, high quality and durable.

Dimensions

Having chosen the shape of the sofa, it is necessary to correctly determine the parameters of the future acquisition, taking into account the size of the area on which the furniture will be installed, as well as the mechanism for its transformation into sleeping place. Each type has several dimensions. So, for example, corner models are most often made with a standard bed width from 140 cm to 200 cm, depending on the number of people who will use such a product as a place to relax. Since designs with an angle have two straight parts, the parameters of both must be taken into account, where most often the longest part can reach 180 cm in length. As for the depth of the sofa, models with a depth of 70 cm are considered the most comfortable.

Most often, direct models of sofas are produced with standard parameters, but in the case of purchasing furniture for a non-standard room, the order is made according to individual measurements. However, it is worth knowing that the price of such a product will be an order of magnitude higher than the rest. For example, if desired, Personal Area you can order an exclusive model in leather upholstery, which will only emphasize the refined taste of the owner.

Depth in straight models is one of the most important parameters. You should also consider not only the amount of space that the sofa occupies when folded, but also when unfolded:

  • In sofas such as "book", "accordion", where the bed is supposed to be along, the standard length of the product depends on its destination. For a kitchen, a sofa 140, 150 cm long will be sufficient. However, for a large family, the length of the product is 160, 180, 190 cm. For a large room, the size of the product can be more than 2 meters, and the depth of the sofa can be from 60 cm to 80 cm.
  • When buying a sofa with a transformation mechanism, providing for the presence of a perpendicular place to sleep, it is important to consider its purpose. For example, the option for guests can be small - 100-120 cm wide, and 170-190 cm long. Meanwhile, assuming to use it as a double bed, you should pay attention to models with a length of 190 cm to 200 cm and a width of 130- 140 cm.
  • It is also worth noting that to the children's room the sofa can be purchased without a transformation mechanism, as it may not be needed for a child. If the choice is stopped on a sofa that unfolds forward, it should be borne in mind that its length can reach 170 cm. Models of the “book” type can reach 2 meters in length, and in some cases even 3 meters.
  • In models consisting of several modules, the size will depend on the shape of the sofa. The parameters of each module can vary from 50 cm or more.

How to choose?

By number of seats

Before buying upholstered furniture, you should roughly calculate how many people will use the sofa on an ongoing basis, since the size of the sofa and the number of seats on it will depend on this. Furniture consultants give some advice on this:

  • Options small withdrawable models, which will be used as a bed for one person, can reach 130-140 cm. An excellent option would be the "Baby" sofa, which has a smooth and comfortable spot for sleep.
  • For a married couple, it will be optimal lorry sofa, as well as an option that has a length of 170-180 cm. Sofas measuring 190 cm and even 210 cm are considered no less comfortable. The width of such structures is from 110 to 150 cm.
  • One of the most popular among buyers is straight sofa model 3 meters long. It will perfectly fit into the interior of a medium-sized living room, it will be a bargain for a large family. In a spacious apartment can be picked up convenient option sofa with ottoman, where the corner part can be used as a fairly comfortable place to read by equipping it with a lamp.
  • Designs focused on a large living room, can reach sizes from 4 to 6 meters in length, depending on the parameters of the seat, the width of which can vary from 70 to 90 cm. These models are usually made to order., in which you can specify the size of sofa cushions and the presence or absence of armrests.

The feeling of comfort directly depends on the convenience of a home sofa. After all, we can fully relax only on that upholstered furniture that meets all the necessary parameters. It will be difficult to sleep on a narrow sofa. A hard back is unlikely to add to your feeling of comfort when you sit on the couch after a hard day's work.
In addition to size and shape, one of the most important parameters of a sofa is its height. Not only the possibility of installing furniture in rooms with a special layout depends on it in such a way that the model fits perfectly into the interior, but also a number of other important factors, which we will discuss in detail.

So, it is believed that the optimal height of the sofa is about 90-100 cm.

As for the seat itself, its height should not be less than 42 cm (according to generally accepted standards). Otherwise, if these parameters are lower, sitting in a seated position, you will not be able to relax your muscles. And, as a result, even being there for a long time, you will not feel a sense of relaxation. True, these parameters do not apply to children's sofas. Their height, of course, should be much less. Bulky furniture for a child will obviously not be comfortable.

A separate problem is the parameters of the sofa for older people suffering from joint diseases and improper draft. On the contrary, they are more suitable for high options, and, preferably, with a rigid back.
The height of the sofa is usually indicated in the technical data sheet in third place - after the width and length of the model. Many buyers often confuse the height of all furniture as a whole with the height of the back and seat. However, the documentation always specifies the first parameter.
The standard height of many sofas is 90 cm. However, this figure may vary depending on the type of furniture, the retractable mechanism (if any), as well as other design features. It is no secret that models of straight and angular types, especially depending on what are made by different manufacturers, may differ from each other in the height of the seat and back.
If the furniture needs to be installed in the corner of the room, provided that this room is large, it is recommended to buy a sofa whose dimensions exceed the generally accepted height parameters - it should be in the range of 110 cm. small area Sofas with standard indicators are quite suitable.
All of the above does not apply to modular sofas. In principle, by their design, they bear little resemblance to other, more familiar to us, types of upholstered furniture. The height of such sofas usually does not exceed 70 cm, and therefore they can be installed in any part of the room.
The height of upholstered furniture is also affected by the following technical features:
- the presence or absence of support legs - they make the sofa higher or, on the contrary, lower. In addition, furniture with high legs can visually increase the area of the room, and sofas without means of support, on the contrary, reduce;
- the presence of pillows in the set, which are usually located on the seat. They are able to add height to the seating area for convenience. True, if at the same time the back of the sofa is low, then visually upholstered furniture will still look low;
- stiffness of the filler. No matter how high the sofa looks visually, if the filler is soft, then the seat will be strongly pressed through at the moment when someone sits on it. And if the furniture sags down, then the visual sense of height is also reduced. Well, among other things, a sofa with a soft filler can hardly be called comfortable. Not to mention that the hard material has a much higher quality.

The optimal height of the sofa is formed by manufacturers and taking into account the built-in transformation mechanisms. The standard parameters most often correspond to “book”, “eurobook” and “click-clack”. For unfolding mechanisms (they are installed on folding sofas, both French and American, as well as on Sedaflex models), a height of 100 cm, or even more, is more relevant.

The thing is that a sleeping place is placed inside the seat, which folds several times. Thanks to this, the back of the sofa automatically increases in height. It is only about the position of the furniture in its original form. When the sliding part moves apart, the sofa itself decreases accordingly.

So, the most important thing to consider when choosing the best sofa for your apartment is its parameters and specifications. Even if this data is not indicated in the product passport (and this sometimes happens), before, do not be too lazy to find out this information from the sellers. Or, if you have a ruler with you, measure the height yourself. After all, it directly depends on whether the furniture meets the necessary standards or not, whether it will be convenient for you to relax or sleep on this sofa.
