How to make good inexpensive renovations in an apartment. Do-it-yourself apartment renovation, where to start: the beginning of renovation in the apartment, work plan. Strategies for reducing the cost of repairs

Do you associate repairs as a difficult, costly and lengthy process? Our website “Remontik” will prove the opposite to you! You may not believe it yet, but the renovation process can bring real pleasure if you turn a rather boring and difficult task into a simple and exciting process.

If you are thinking about how to make renovations in an apartment with your own hands, then the first thing you need to follow is the sequence of all actions, and all stages should be completed one after another, according to a pre-prepared plan.

So, if you are determined and seriously thinking about making renovations in your apartment yourself, then you should adhere to the following steps:

Global preparation.

Replacement of double-glazed windows.

Plastering works.

Wiring of electrical communications, plumbing work.

Preparing the floor.

Finishing.

Indeed, you can do an apartment renovation yourself, without resorting to the help of professionals, if you adhere to a clear plan and carefully study each of the stages, which we will talk about in more detail below.

List of tools needed for do-it-yourself apartment renovation

  1. Ladder. It may seem to some that it is not the most necessary tool on the list, but this is not so.
  2. Special marking tools:
  • tape measure 10 or 2-3 meters;
  • square;
  • metal ruler for one meter;
  • carpenter's hydraulic level - use for more accurate marking of horizontal surfaces;
  • cord – beacons are installed along a stretched cord for alignment;
  • plumb line - ensures the evenness of the walls during plastering - the surface is hung.
  1. Hand tools (you can buy them in whole sets or individually):
  • hammer;
  • ax - pay attention special attention for sharpening the blade (for left or right hand) and the ax itself, which should fit as tightly as possible on the butt;
  • hacksaw – blade thickness from 1 mm with a well-polished plane;
  • chisel – up to 10 mm (needed for woodworking);
  • log house;
  • chisel 20 mm wide (used for woodworking);
  • metal scissors;
  • cutters.
  1. Power tools:
  • electric drill with a hammer drill (necessary both during repairs and after its completion);
  • angle grinder, can be used for grinding surfaces and corners, as well as when cutting stone and metal;
  • screw cutter (for this you can use a drill at low speeds);
  • electric jigsaw.
  1. Tools for other work:
  • painting tray (container for paint, glue, primer, etc.);
  • scrapers, spatulas (for applying plaster, putty, putty and removing old wallpaper and paints);
  • rollers (large furry ones, small foam ones) and a “fishing rod” for them;
  • brushes (round and flat);
  • sandpaper (of different grain sizes) – intended for smoothing surfaces;
  • a syringe gun (for squeezing out various adhesive mixtures) plus a tool for cleaning the gun;
  • masking tape (used for neat painting).

This is the minimum list necessary tools for those who are planning to renovate their apartment on their own.

Preparing for apartment renovation: video, photo

Every repair, whether major or cosmetic, begins with global preparation. First of all, you will need to complete everything dismantling work: removal of plaster, whitewash, wallpaper, door blocks, flooring and if necessary, the partitions will need to be dismantled and rearranged.

Situations often arise when, upon completion of repairs and finishing, you discover that you forgot to dismantle something. In this case, you have to redo a considerable part of the work, and do it carefully, slowly, in order to minimize new damage.

For this reason, after completing the dismantling of everything that is old, unnecessary and cannot be replaced, carefully inspect and analyze the results of your work. Think about whether you did everything right.

Replacing double-glazed windows in an apartment

This is quite a dirty job, especially the first part, when you have to dismantle the old window blocks. Once the installation of the window and sill is complete, cover them with plastic film to prevent them from being smeared or scratched during further work.

Plaster work in an apartment: video, photo

When performing plastering work, you need to follow the following sequence of actions: marking for beacon profiles, priming the walls, installing the beacon profile, plastering the walls and slopes. Moreover, plasterboard walls cannot be plastered. Work on plastering the ceiling, assembling and installing suspended and tensioned structures should be done after you have completed the installation of electrical cables, ventilation and other communications on the ceiling.

Installation of electrical communications and plumbing work

All activities at this stage come down to one - responsible action: installation or replacement of heating radiators, laying and wiring of electrical cables, low-current profiles (grounding cables, telephone, Internet, alarm, TV).

Before you start laying cables, mark the output of switches and sockets on the walls. Then proceed to groove the grooves and holes for the cables, distribution boxes, subdivisions, take care of installing a built-in electrical unit.

Be sure to draw a diagram electrical wiring: it will be needed to prevent it from getting into the places where the wire is laid in the future, where you will drill a hole and also hammer in nails. It is important to install pipes in the toilet, kitchen, and bathroom before installing electrical wiring, as well as all the work that is associated with them.

Preparing the floor in an apartment: photo, video

Installation of heated floors, screed and leveling. As soon as the screed is laid and leveled, you need to wait until it is completely dry. For various materials proposed different times drying, which means you should carefully read the description on the packaging or instructions.

Finishing work

Once the floor is prepared, you can install the doors and then begin finishing. Moreover, the sequence of all finishing works directly depends on the materials used and the choice of technologies. So, painting and whitewashing of the ceiling is done first, and suspended ceiling It is best to install when the walls are finished. Laying the flooring, be it tiles, linoleum or parquet, is done when both the ceiling and walls are ready.

Attention! If possible, it is better to renovate the entire apartment at once. Similar stages of work are, first of all, relevant for “dirty” ones, which include removing old whitewash, installing windows, not to mention dismantling and rearranging partitions, if it makes sense to do it in different rooms at the same time, to prevent this from happening when carpet is laid in one room, and in the next room you have just started removing old whitewash from the ceiling.

If you are unable to renovate the entire apartment, you can start it from the farthest room and gradually move closer to the exit. The repair of the corridor and hallway is carried out last. This is a fairly obvious rule: it is clear that carrying bags of construction waste and buckets of mortar around newly renovated rooms is not the best thing. best solution. But be that as it may, in practice this rule is violated very often.

It is also worth moving from the room furthest from the hallway when renovating the entire apartment. First of all, this concerns last stage do-it-yourself apartment renovation – finishing.

We have provided instructions for renovating an apartment on your own. For those who prefer watching videos, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the videos presented above, which clearly demonstrate all the processes.

How you can save on renovating your apartment yourself

If you want to renovate your home, but not spend a lot of money, then do not think that you can save only on materials and services of specialists. Actually secrets budget renovation not so much.

  • Start renovations in winter. You will be able to hire experienced workers at a lower cost since they do not have much work to do during the off season. Sometimes discounts can reach up to 40%. But at the same time, do not forget that winter climatic conditions are unfavorable for repair and construction work, and most people decide to renovate in the summer.
  • You can also save on the materials used by replacing expensive imported ones with cheaper domestic analogues. Imported materials do not always live up to expectations, and are much more expensive than domestically produced materials.
  • Most of the costs are in materials. If you replace vinyl wallpaper for paper ones, which today can be no less beautiful, you will save two to three times on wall decoration. Well, instead of a suspended or plasterboard ceiling, you can use paint, which will cost you much less. Of course, in cases where it is necessary to level the ceiling, it is not worth saving and it is better to do it from plasterboard.
  • Sometimes the services of specialists are more expensive than the materials they work with. For this reason, before choosing a construction team, look at several offers and do not rush to contact the first specialists you come across.
  • To do cheap repairs in the kitchen, use vinyl or fiberglass wallpaper. They need to be glued right up to the ceiling and the kitchen apron area needs to be finished with ceramic tiles. If you want to save even more, replace ceramic tiles with plastic panels that imitate tiles, and work area Cover kitchens with self-adhesive film.
  • If you don’t have enough money for expensive bathroom tiles, then the walls in this room can be covered with washable vinyl wallpaper or acrylic paint. They also look very nice PVC wall panels for the bathroom, the cost of which will pleasantly surprise you.
  • Planning inexpensive repair apartments with your own hands, you can’t afford to buy expensive plumbing fixtures. Therefore, if old plumbing fixtures look bad, you can clean or paint them. However, if the plumbing has cracked, then the only option left is to replace them. You can also save on construction waste removal if you organize it yourself.

What should you not save on when doing repairs yourself?

In no case do not skimp on laying pipes or electrical wiring. Engineering communications must be of high quality and must be installed by specialists. If we talk about finishing, even the most expensive decorative finishing It will look bad if you lay it out with gaps or ugly.

The only stage of repair that will be difficult to handle on your own is redoing the electrical wiring. For those who plan to save money, there is a way out here too - negotiate with the electrician who services your home. Such a master will be interested in the high quality of his work, since he will have to continue servicing your home. You should not skimp on the wiring itself, since the safety of your family directly depends on its quality. Well, you can easily install the sockets yourself, saving money.

If you do not have tools for repairs, you will have to buy or rent them. However, a more economical option is to ask friends or neighbors. We recommend making a list of all the necessary tools in advance so that during the repair process you are not left without available tools.

With your own hands and on a small budget

I renovated a room that was last renovated twenty years ago. I spent 16,921 RUR on this.

Victoria Tsarenkova

renovated grandma's room

I inherited from my grandmother her room in our family apartment. In this article I will tell you how to make simple repairs and restore furniture so that the room takes on a modern look.

What will you learn

What the room looked like before renovation

Our apartment is located in the old housing stock of St. Petersburg. This is the name given to houses built before the revolution. Ours was built in the 1890s. Such buildings differ from modern ones with uneven walls, high ceilings and bizarre layouts. They also feature ceilings with stucco, walls with paintings, tiled stoves, stained glass windows and antique inlaid parquet flooring. I like it when renovations preserve the special, ancient spirit of St. Petersburg apartments - this is their highlight.

RUB 16,921

I spent it on renovating the room

We renovated all the rooms in the apartment except grandma's. She objected to the renovation as too disturbing an undertaking, but we did not insist. Therefore, her room gradually fell into a depressing state: old wallpaper, dilapidated wooden frames and Soviet furniture. Only the parquet is well preserved.

Preparation for repair

I decided that the renovation would be mine creative project, and not a grueling inevitability. And this helped me relate more easily to all the vicissitudes of this process. There was excitement: what would I end up with? Besides, I was in no hurry and did repairs only in my free time.

I'm not a designer, but I have a feel for colors, style and combination of textures. This runs in our family: my brother is an artist, and my mother recently became interested in painting with watercolors. I also love different sites and groups on social networks where people meet interesting interiors. It seems to me that such “observation” helps a lot when you come up with an interior design yourself.

Therefore, an approximate picture immediately appeared in my head of how I wanted my room to look. That's what was important to me.

Painted walls, not wallpaper. I wanted bright colors, and I decided that there would be three walls blue color, and one is yellow. I also didn’t want to glue wallpaper, because this is an additional procedure, and I needed to make everything easier and faster. The option of painting old wallpaper was also not suitable: they had been hanging on the walls for twenty years and I wanted some kind of update.

The furniture is gray. I decided that I would repaint my grandmother's lacquered furniture to make it look more modern. I chose gray because I thought the gray shelving would look cool against the background yellow wall. The combination of these colors is one of my favorites.

Bed in the form of an ottoman. I didn’t consider a sofa or couch, because I wanted to sleep on the bed: so that in the evening I could just throw back the covers and lie down, and in the morning I could put everything back on. I'm tired of the "sofa rituals": in the evening, spread out and cover sleeping place, in the morning, remove the laundry and put the sofa back together.

Before starting the renovation, I found and saved pictures from Google and Pinterest with the desired result into a folder on my laptop, sorting everything by color and their combination. I knew that this is what interior designers do: they collect “mood boards” for visualization and inspiration.

Pinterest is also convenient because you can save all the pictures you like directly to your board - that’s what user folders are called on this site. I also recommend doing a search query on Pinterest in both Russian and English, because the results are very different. If you request in English, you will receive more images, since this social network is popular all over the world.

Work plan

It always seemed to me that repairs were difficult and expensive. I thought that I couldn’t handle it on my own, because I didn’t understand building materials, I didn’t know what and how to do it. But there were no other options, because there was no money to hire craftsmen. Therefore, I had to do everything myself and as budget as possible.

My brother helped me. He did the renovation himself a few years ago and suggested what materials to buy. For example, he advised us to use ordinary plaster instead of the famous “Rotband”. It's cheaper and perfect for my needs. My brother also told me what kind of paint was needed for the walls, ceiling, windows and radiators. He explained what should be painted and in what order. Without his advice, I would have spent a lot more time, effort and money on repairs, figuring out what was what.

I didn’t want to do everything perfectly correctly and strictly according to technology. It was important for me to stay within the budget and put the room in order - so that it would be clean, tidy and simply pleasant to be in. I also wanted to preserve the spirit of St. Petersburg, for which apartments in the old building are so famous. Therefore, I did not try to level the walls, ceiling and window openings to European standards.

I had to:

  1. Rip off the wallpaper.
  2. Fill nail holes and small potholes in the walls.
  3. Prime the walls.
  4. Paint the walls, ceiling, windows and door.
  5. Repaint the furniture.

Painting works

Ceiling. I started by painting the ceiling. Since I had a “no rules” renovation, I decided not to remove the old whitewash, not to treat leaks and not to seal cracks - but to paint immediately according to what was there.

For the ceiling, I bought the cheapest one at a construction hypermarket. water-dispersion paint. I planned that one 3 kg bucket would be enough for the entire ceiling. The label said "3 kg ≈ 18-24 m²" and the area of my room was 14 m². I ended up using three of these buckets for the ceiling. I painted it in two layers. Perhaps I used so much paint because I didn’t follow the technology - that is, I didn’t prepare the ceiling for painting.

9 kg

I used paint for a 14 m² ceiling

At first I had a problem with the ceiling: the roller did not apply fresh paint, but only removed the old whitewash. I had to paint with a wide brush, and make a figured strip at the junction with the wall with a thin brush. As a result, I found it even easier to paint with brushes than with a roller. In addition, I stood on a high stepladder almost near the ceiling, so my arm didn’t get too tired.

One bucket of paint cost 159 RUR. Painting the entire ceiling cost me 477 RUR.

Firstly, I primed the walls - that is, I applied a special compound so that the paint would better adhere to the surface of the walls. In addition, the primer protects the walls from mold and mildew. One liter of liquid primer was enough for my room. It must be diluted with water, applied with a roller to the walls and allowed to dry. In what proportion to dilute and how long to wait for drying is indicated on the packaging.

1 l

liquid primer was applied to walls with a height of 3.2 m and a total length of 11.5 m

Secondly, I filled nail holes and small gouges to prevent dust from accumulating in them and to make the wall look more uniform. There were many such holes and gouges in the walls. For this I needed a plaster mixture. I bought a 5 kg bag, which I completely used up. The mixture must be diluted with water until smooth. For this I used a construction mixer that my brother gave me. Whether it will be possible to beat the mixture by hand - I don’t know.

I didn’t spread the whole bag at once, but in parts. The mixture hardens quickly, and it must be applied to the wall in time. I added water by eye, keeping in mind that the plaster should have the consistency of thick sour cream.

Applying plaster to walls is simple: you take the mixture on a spatula, cover the hole, and level this patch on the wall with the sharp side of the spatula. I liked this part of the work: compared to painting the ceiling, it was practically a vacation.

In general, first it was necessary to seal the holes and only then prime the walls. But I was wrong and did the opposite. This did not affect the painting result.

Painting the walls with a roller was also easy. But I have a problem with color scheme. I planned to make one wall yellow, but when I painted it, it turned out terrible. This wall moved forward and visually pressed. And my brother came up with this move: leave a wide yellow stripe on the wall and paint the sides with blue paint.

On the advice of my brother, I bought one of the most budget paints - the Marshall brand. He painted such a wall and was pleased with the result: the paint lay well on the surface and covered it with a dense layer. The colors turned out rich and did not fade or fade over time.

I needed five 2.5 liter buckets: four blue buckets and one yellow. I painted it in two layers, but I didn’t use all the paint - there was half a bucket of blue paint left and a third of the bucket of yellow paint. I plan to use them later when renovating the toilet and bathroom.

10.4 l

paint was used on walls with a height of 3.2 m and a total length of 11.5 m

The paint is sold in white, but to get other colors, you need to do “tinting” when white paint add a little paint of the desired shade. They did the tinting for me at the construction hypermarket where I bought the paint. There are special machines that rotate the bucket vigorously and thus mix the colored paint with the white one. Tinting one bucket cost 63 RUR.

Yellow paint was more expensive than blue paint. For tinting in yellow The most budget paint for 399 RUR was not suitable, so I had to buy a bucket of yellow from another price range of the same brand - for 455 RUR.

In total, I spent 2297 RUR on wall paint.

Windows and door. Before painting the windows and door, I scraped off the cracked paint from them with a spatula, and in the space between the windows plaster mixture repaired several obvious imperfections.

I painted the windows and door in two layers of universal acrylic enamel. I didn’t bother to understand the nuances and took the most budget option on a shelf in a construction hypermarket.

5 kg

enamel was used for two windows and one door

My windows are wide - each is 1.25 m. The door is also quite large - 2.7 × 0.95 m, plus it had to be painted on both sides. This work took two full buckets of 2.5 kg each. At first I bought one bucket, and when I realized that I would need more paint, I had to buy a second one.

I painted the window frames and the figured part of the door with small rollers 6 cm long, and everything else with brushes and large rollers. To prevent paint from getting on the glass, I sealed it with construction tape around the perimeter of the frames. In general, the glass was also in poor condition. But I decided not to do anything with them yet. I just washed it and scraped off the paint from the previous renovation.

One bucket of enamel cost 364 RUR. I spent 703 RUR on painting two windows and a door, since I bought one bucket at a discount, asking for a discount card from a neighbor in line at the checkout.

Batteries. Batteries require special paint. If you paint normally, when heated to heating season it may crack or rust. That's why I bought acrylic enamel for radiators. I was lucky that the heating hadn't been turned on yet. Otherwise there is a risk that warm batteries Even special paint can dry unevenly.

Before painting, I did not remove the old coating or prime the batteries - although this is recommended in articles about repairs. I just wiped the batteries with soapy water to remove dirt and dust.

241 R

worth a bucket of enamel

I painted mostly with a brush. And for the internal surfaces I used a 6 cm long roller with a handle: it was easy to push it between the sections of the radiator, and it painted everything well internal surfaces sections. Two batteries took a little more than half a 0.8 liter bucket, although I painted in two layers and did not save.

I also bought the most budget enamel, a bucket cost 241 RUR.

I just cleaned it with a brush for 110 R and a solution of ammonia, which removes dirt. Due to this, the boards became lighter. But if you peel it off and varnish it, it will be absolutely gorgeous

Why I decided to repaint the furniture

The furniture in my grandmother's room included two shelves, a square table and a round table, as well as an ottoman stool, a TV stand and an old sofa.

I installed the TV stand through Avito. The housing office staff initially agreed to take the sofa, but were unable to get it out of the room through the doors. As a result, my brother and I broke the sofa and threw it into a container for construction waste: there was no time to add any more, and it looked shabby.

We decided to leave the rest of the furniture for two reasons. The first is sentimental. This furniture is a memory of people dear to me. My grandparents bought a Riga set in the mid-70s. And when my grandmother passed away, my mother and I could not give this furniture to strangers.

The second is practical. I needed to furnish my room, but there was no way to buy new furniture. And this set, which roamed for 40 years different apartments, is still in excellent condition - certainly stronger than the furniture we bought in the nineties and even two years ago.

And then I decided to do this experiment. I learned from the Internet even before the renovation that furniture in the “Soviet chic” style can be transformed beyond recognition.

I had to remove the varnish from the furniture and paint it a new color.

How to remove varnish from furniture

I studied articles and videos on the topic and found three ways to remove varnish from furniture.

Thermal method. The surface is heated with a hair dryer, and then the varnish is scraped off. I immediately abandoned this method: such a hairdryer can heat up to 600 ºС, and I decided that it was simply dangerous. What if I do something wrong and set the surface on fire or burn my hands.

Chemical method. The remover composition is applied to the surface with a brush, and after a certain time specified in the instructions, the varnish is removed with a spatula. Minor varnish residues are removed with sandpaper. I decided to try removing the varnish from the table using this method. In a video from one restoration workshop, it looked like this: a remover was applied, and the coating was easily removed to light, living wood. But there was a nuance: the master used car paint remover. I bought the furniture destroyer paint coatings B-52." And nothing worked out for me.

The "destroyer" only removed 1-2 mm of varnish and deformed the table in several places. Perhaps because I left it for 45 minutes instead of the prescribed 30 minutes. Or this remover was simply not suitable for covering my furniture.

I was also worried about the toxicity of the product. Even though I worked in a respirator mask, the smell filled the entire apartment and did not disappear immediately. And on the can, a short list of the components of the product was coquettishly completed with the words “additives that ensure the penetration of the gel inside polymer coating" I was puzzled that the manufacturer did not indicate the exact composition, so to “decontaminate” I washed the table with water and vinegar. And I decided to go the third way.

Mechanical method. The surface is treated with sandpaper - manually or with a grinding machine.

At first I wanted to remove the varnish using a sander. I thought it would be easier this way. But you would have to buy or rent a machine. Besides, I was told that it is no easier than doing it by hand. So I decided to go over the furniture by hand and bought a sandpaper holder.

I sanded all surfaces twice: first, a rougher one with P120 grit, then a softer one with P180 grit. The surface of the table was softened by the chemical remover, and it turned out to be quite difficult to remove the varnish. It was easier with the shelves: both of these giants are two meters long each, and I sanded the shelves, drawers and internal sections quickly and easily.

Width="1000" height="667" class="" style="max-width: 1000px; height: auto"> The sandpaper holder cost 120 R, and the cheapest sanding machine would have cost me about 1000 R. I only treated the corner areas of the furniture with small pieces of sandpaper without a holder - otherwise it would be impossible to get to them

How I painted furniture

I made a mistake when I chose for furniture light gray color. I painted the table, but it looked so dull and cold against the background of the blue walls that it immediately became clear that it couldn’t be left like that.

So I went through my paper palette again and suddenly settled on purple. I've never been a big fan of this color, but I love how it goes with the yellow and blue. I also thought it would be unusual - the furniture was purple. That's why I decided to paint with it.

I love the resulting color combination on the walls and furniture. The question may arise: am I getting tired of such bright colors? No, I love bright colors and their combinations, so I don’t get tired, but, on the contrary, I recharge

Instructions

The cost of repairs consists of two components: the cost of materials and the cost of labor. Moreover, the services of professional repairmen can cost much more than all the materials. Therefore, the first commandment of cheap repairs is to do everything you can. Actually, only two jobs need to be entrusted to specialists: plumbing (if the pipes require replacement) and electrical wiring; professionals do not do the rest. And second - choose inexpensive materials and do without what you can do without.

The simplest thing is to make it inexpensive in living rooms and hallways. To tidy up the ceiling, you will need ceiling paint (preferably matte - this allows you to hide surface unevenness) and a special paint roller - foam rubber or fleecy. Of course, you can do without a roller by painting the ceilings with a brush, but, firstly, it is much more tedious, and secondly, stripes may remain on the painted surface - and you will have to repaint it a second time. The roller allows you to apply only one layer of paint.

Stick paper wallpaper on the wall - they are not as durable as vinyl, but they are very cheap. By the way, special glue for paper wallpaper You don’t have to buy it – you can make a paste from flour or starch. The worn linoleum on the floor can not be changed, but simply painted with oil or acrylic floor paint - the color will easily last 3-4 years.

The choice of materials for bathroom and kitchen renovations must be approached more carefully - after all, these are premises with high humidity. Therefore, for ceilings in these rooms, it is better to purchase special moisture-resistant paint marked “for baths and kitchens” or “for wet rooms” - especially since it does not cost much more.

Bathroom walls do not have to be tiled. If the walls are in good condition, you can paint them with acrylic paint or stick on moisture-resistant, washable vinyl wallpaper (marked “three drops”). You can also use paintable fiberglass wallpaper to decorate bathrooms. They are good because they are very undemanding to the quality of the surface - they can be glued even to an uneven, crumbling wall and this allows you to reduce not only the cost of repairs, but also labor costs. A slightly more expensive, but at the same time very economical option is plastic wall panels. They look great and are very easy to clean.

To decorate the kitchen, you can also use fiberglass wallpaper or washable vinyl wallpaper, sticking it to the ceiling or to the middle of the wall. If kitchen apron not tiled – can be used plastic panel simulating tiles, or stick oilcloth or self-adhesive film on the wall above the work areas.

Renovation never ends, but you can enjoy updating your interior and do it profitably.

Update your doors

Interior doors can completely change the interior. Their prices vary widely, and often doors “eat up” half of the budget spent on renovating a room. There are especially many problems with their installation, because for this you need to either very accurately determine the dimensions and work independent work, or call craftsmen whose work costs more than the door itself.

The solution is fantasy and hand-made. Don't buy a door, make a new one from an old one.

First remove old paint(if the door was painted). This is done using liquid glass, that is, a solution of sodium silicate in water. If you apply it to old paint, after drying the solution will peel off along with it. You can also use a blowtorch or heat gun to heat and remove the paint layer. These methods require more time than working with a grinder and brush, but they produce less dust and debris. If dents and chips are found on the door, a wood primer will help you.

The same methods will help you update old wooden window frames.

A smooth and clean structure can be turned into decorative element: paint, wallpaper, plaster, mosaic, cover with fabric. Choose according to your taste.

Re-glue the wallpaper

The room does not necessarily have to have wallpaper of the same color and texture. They can be combined so that the result looks real design solution. If you take a product from leftovers for a combination, the savings will be considerable, especially if you need to decorate a small room.

If you don't have the time or inclination to bother with changes to the entire room, re-wallpaper only one wall. Fast and unusual.

By carrying out repairs in stages, you can save money. Large construction hypermarkets offer big discounts and special promotions in the summer and fall. For example, in August at OBI you can save up to 40% when purchasing basic goods for renovation: laminate, tiles, power tools, paint, plumbing. And for a one-time purchase of 10,000 rubles or more, the client receives an OBI Club card, which entitles him to a 5% discount and to lucrative individual offers until the end of the year.

Repaint old furniture

Change beyond recognition old wardrobe maybe in a couple of days. You can use self-adhesive film, but this way you are unlikely to turn your grandmother’s sideboard into the pride of the interior. But with the help of paint, primer, varnish, napkins and a few hours of free time, you can make something magical out of a wooden or plywood chest of drawers.

  1. First, remove all old coating - varnish or paint - not only from the outside, but also from the inside of the furniture. Process all the boxes. It will take more time, but the restoration will be complete. To remove paint and varnish, it is better to use special solutions and apply them in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Sand the cleaned surface with fine-grained sandpaper. Then prime (use a sponge to saturate all the pores).
  3. If there are any unevenness or chips, cover them with wood putty.
  4. The primer can again be sanded and painted. Suitable for furniture acrylic paints, they are easy to apply and lie flat. If you have not done painting work before, use convenient spray cans.

In addition to paint, you can use stickers and decoupage. You will learn how it works from the video tutorial.

It is best to work outdoors so that you do not have to protect the room from dust and debris, and also to avoid breathing sawdust and paint in a cramped room.

Pay attention to home textiles

The bedroom will be transformed by one blanket on the bed. Children's room - carpet. In the living room, the entire interior can revolve around a sofa and unusual pillows on it. In order not to change the upholstery of the furniture, sew beautiful covers. In any room you can “rhyme” these accents with curtains, and draperies can be not only on the windows, but also on the walls and doors. As a result, the room will look like it was after renovation, although you did not do any work. The easiest way is to find a color that will create a contrast to the entire design of the room and will focus on the textiles.

Make an unusual floor

It is unrealistic to completely re-lay the floor and lay parquet with your own hands in a couple of days. For a quick DIY cosmetic renovation, you need to estimate how much you can spend. It is not necessary to buy all the materials at once; you can prepare for replacing the floor by purchasing tools and supplies in stages. This approach will allow you to think through the design concept and save on proposals.

Until the end of October, OBI is running a savings promotion: you make your first purchase for 2,000 rubles and receive a 5% discount on your second. For the second and third purchases for the same 2,000 rubles, the discount will increase and amount to 7 and 10%, respectively. Buyers who receive a card with a maximum 10% discount can use it until the end of October, and then exchange it for a card with a 5% discount until the end of the year on any purchases.

What can you spend money on so that the result exceeds expectations?

Repaint the floor using stencils or patterned patterns. This is an option ideal for wooden floors and brave owners. The main rule is to use several colors.

Update your linoleum. This is the most affordable and easy-to-process floor covering. Buy linoleum bright color, even familiar furniture will look completely different on it. Or you can take advantage of the experience of artist Heike Weber and paint old linoleum with ordinary permanent markers.

Combine coatings. It is not necessary to change the flooring in the entire room; you can replace it only in damaged areas. Choose a texture and color that will match the remaining floor and get an unusual interior.

Put vinyl tiles . This is another easy way to update your floors while saving time. Tiles require preparation of a flat surface, but if you do not need leveling, even beginners can handle the installation.

Add light

Sometimes it is difficult to be in a room just because of poor lighting. As you know, there are two types of light: functional and decorative. It is difficult to make a room brighter without altering the wiring, but conductive structures allow this too: the lamps, which are mounted on a supporting frame, can be rotated in any direction and the lighting can be changed.

But decorative lamps and LED backlight can be used at all times. Original chandeliers and floor lamps look especially good in a minimalist interior.

Apply designs to old tiles

To replace tiles in a kitchen or bathroom in a couple of days requires incredible skill, skill and full set tools and materials. It would be strange if there was no way to update the backsplash in the kitchen or bathroom in another way.

The easiest option is stickers. Buy whatever you like, degrease the surface of the tile and apply the desired pattern.

A more labor-intensive process, but no less interesting in the end, is painting tiles. Not every paint will withstand constant contact with water, so you shouldn’t paint the walls directly above the bathroom, but the kitchen and toilet walls are at your complete disposal.

How to paint tiles?

  1. Clean the surface of the tiles and seams from dirt using detergent and a stiff brush. Wipe with a cloth soaked in vinegar solution.
  2. Sand the surface with fine sandpaper to help the paint adhere better to the surface.
  3. Prime the tiles with epoxy primer. Let dry until the next day.
  4. Take epoxy paint and create as you see fit. If you decide to apply multiple coats, allow the previous one to dry for at least 12 hours.

Cheap but stylish renovation of a small apartment

Many people panic when they hear the word repair. First of all, because this phenomenon is directly associated with high costs. Yes, after the renovation many people feel as if they were robbed. It is impossible to eliminate expenses, but you have the power to reduce them, without compromising the quality of repairs. So, how can you make your apartment stylish while spending a minimum of savings on it?

What you shouldn't save on

The most important thing in a renovation is a quality foundation. This means that the floors must be smooth, the walls must be smooth and also level, and the angles must be strictly 90 degrees. What is the threat of such disproportionality? Everything is learned in small details. So, if your walls are uneven, it means...that the baseboards will not completely adjoin them, unsightly gaps will appear, which will definitely spoil the appearance. Next, problems with uneven corners will appear when you install the cabinet corner furniture. Well, on a crooked floor the cabinets will stand shaky. In general, if you decide to rely on independent forces for repairs, your work must be perfect. Filling floors, leveling and plastering walls,engage in wall decoration, installation suspended ceilings– all this should be done by professionals. Believe me, by saving on the base, you risk later shelling out a much larger amount to correct errors.Do not forget that it is very important to correctly lay the wires throughout the apartment and pipes in the bathroom.Much also depends on the quality of the finish, namely its practicality andappearance. Even the most expensive ceramic tiles, laid out crookedly, or cut off unevenly, will spoil the entire interior of the room.

Expensive does not mean stylish

For some reason, we mistakenly believe that expensive building and finishing materials look better, and as a result are 100%guarantee successful repair. Unfortunately this is not the case. Of course, we do not give you a choice between the cheapest and the most expensive material. This is not entirely true, because first of all we should talk about quality and reliability, be it a building mixture, finishing material or an interior item. Quality is above all, the rest is a matter of your choice. And he should fall for the most wallet-friendly options. Repair is a serious matter, so take it seriously. Compare various options, read the reviewsabout finishing materials on the Internet.

How to reduce the cost of repairs

We won't go into detail about which one is better. building material choose because as mentioned above – the main quality. Let's consider the interior elements that form the basis of the design.

Let's start with the design itself. It’s not worth spending money, I’ll hire a designer so that he can tell you in which corner to put the sofa and in which TV. Today a lot interesting options for the design of apartments of various sizes and designs can be found freely available on the Internet. This is easy to do, you just need time to choose one or another design option. It is not necessary to repeat it exactly, you will just be able to see what color variations are combined, what is more suitable for this or that type of decoration, and finally, how upholstered furniture looks in the interior of the room.

The main components of the interior are finishing materials for walls, furniture, decorative items and flooring.

Let's start with the floor. Many people cover it with linoleum, which is quite justified. This material is cheap, relatively practical, but if We are talking about a stylish apartment - it definitely shouldn’t be decorated with linoleum.Options: laminate, self-leveling floors. Laminate is cheaper than self-leveling floors and it looks very beautiful. This universal material, which can be matched in style to any interior.

Wall decoration - there can be a lot of variations on this theme. Cheap options - wallpaper. But you have to really work hard to find cheap wallpaper of decent quality and with a pattern that’s not a la “I’m visiting grandma.”Did you know that many designers suggest their clients not to cover the walls with anything at all, leaving the brick for everyone to see. The idea is very interesting, but requires specifications in style (combine this option with a fireplace - it will be perfect). Dear decorative plaster can be replaced with a regular one, applied with a relief roller; all this splendor can then be painted in any color, but just choose the paint carefully.

Interior items - specifically forA huge part of the funds goes to them. Minimalism style will help you. Buying cabinet furniture is not cheap. However, as practice shows, it is much cheaper and more practicalbuy itemsinterior separately.

Pay attention to the old things that remain from the previous environment. Now it’s called vintage, and if you skillfully incorporate this style into your interior (including wallpaper, buy a couple of antiques, hang up black and white photographs), then you won’t have to buy anything. A rocking chair will perfectly complement the interior; they are usually cheaper than ordinary soft chairs.
