How to restore an old round table. How to restore an old table with your own hands? Features of the restoration of a wooden table

And get the first skills necessary for this, restore for a start old table. If your attic does not have such good things - it does not matter, on the Internet you will find a lot of ads for the sale of tables at the lowest prices from people who dream of getting rid of them.

Of course, it is better to choose a table that has, albeit a small, but still artistic value. It is much more interesting and pleasant to work with such furniture. In any case, the end result will please everyone. If in doubt, take a "before" and "after" photo - and you will see how the table received with the help of your hands new life.

Be patient and be prepared to make a couple of mistakes. Do not rush to get upset about this. Consider this your study project.

You got the table and we we can start restoration.

You will need these materials and tools:
- the hero of the occasion himself - the old table;
- dye;
- water-based varnish;
- solvent for degreasing the surface;
- putty;
- sandpaper coarse and fine grit;
- self-tapping screws and furniture bolts (as needed);
- rubber putty knife;
- brushes for applying varnish and paint;
- a roller for applying paint to the countertop (you can use a brush);
- clamps;
- grinder (you can do without it).

1. Inspection, determination of defects and repair
Start by inspecting the table and assessing its general condition. Look for defects old furniture they are always there. On our table, for example, cracks and scratches were found. In addition, in some places the varnish has worn off, in others it has cracked. All this will have to be corrected.

Better luck with legs. They do not stagger or hang out, which means that we do not have to disassemble the entire table. If you are less fortunate, even better - by correcting the situation, you will get a useful repair experience.

Check the leg mount. If this is a screw connection, you just need to tighten the screws and watch the table. Starts to stagger again - replace the screws.

If the leg is attached to the table with glue and it loosens, then the glue has dried out. To correct the situation, disassemble the table, thoroughly clean the joint surface from the remnants of old glue and apply a new layer according to the instructions. Secure the leg with clamps and leave to dry completely for a day. If the design allows, attach it with additional self-tapping screws, and even better with furniture bolts.

2. Sanding
The repair is over, and you can start grinding. To do this, use a grinder. If you don't have one, use coarse and fine grit sandpaper and sand by hand. However, depending on the type of wood and the degree of damage, such handmade can take a lot of time and effort. But there are also positive aspects here. For example, without having the necessary skill, you will not be able to spoil the product in the process, but manual grinding will allow you to feel the material and get an idea about some of its properties.

We used a grinder. First, go over the surface of the table with a nozzle with coarse paper. Grind carefully, without pressure and special efforts. First, get a feel for the material. Now move on to paper with less grain to make the surface as smooth as possible. Remove the remains of varnish and paint.

Grinding curly parts is carried out exclusively by hand, so as not to damage the relief. Only in cases where the design does not allow this, use power tools with suitable nozzles.

After grinding, be sure to remove all dust from the surface of the table and workplace. Use a vacuum cleaner.

3. Putty
All deep defects, be it scratches or dents that could not be eliminated during the grinding process, should be puttied with a special wood putty.

Use a rubber spatula to do this and apply putty to damaged areas. Wait for complete drying and carefully sand the surface.

4. Coating
Let's start processing the surface with paints and varnishes.

You can combine the coating on different parts of the table. For example, we decided to paint only its lower part, and treat the countertop with stain and open it with varnish.

Start with the table top. Cover it with a stain of your chosen tone and leave it to dry completely in order to correctly evaluate the resulting shade. If the tone does not suit you, apply another layer and wait for it to dry again.

Now you can start painting the bottom. Turn over and set the table in such a way that it is convenient for you to work and in the process of work you do not have to shift it from place to place.

Surely, you have already decided on the color scheme of your future table, and we have chosen white matte warm tone paint for ours.

Paint one element and only then move on to the next so that the coating lays evenly. Let the first coat dry completely and sand the surface with fine sandpaper to achieve micro-scratches. Apply a second coat of paint, wait for it to dry and sand again.

Let there be at least three such procedures, and even better 4-5. Sanding helps each new layer of paint to penetrate the previous one without forming a thick layer. Thus, at the output we get a very durable coating that will last for more than one decade and protect the table from mechanical damage and other kinds of external influences.

To fix the result, apply a water-based varnish. It dries quickly, is relatively safe and has no bad smell characteristic of other types of varnish. Apply varnish with a brush, picking it up a little each time so that smudges do not form.

Also varnish the countertop. To achieve a more durable coating, proceed in the same way as in the case of paint. Apply, thus, at least a couple of layers.

Basically, the job is done. Dry the table well in a ventilated place or ventilated room to get rid of the peculiar smell and admire the creation of your own hands.

We use only fabric and paint for table decoration. You see the result. Like?

To proceed with the restoration, you need to clean the surface of the table. It is advisable to do this work with a grinder, but in the absence of one in the arsenal of tools, it is really possible to get by with sandpaper, only in this case you will have to work hard.

When sanding a table, we get rid of varnish and paint, which, in fact, spoil the appearance of this piece of furniture. The cleaned surface is treated with wood putty. This step must not be skipped, because otherwise the surface will not be perfectly flat. We close cracks and chips.

Since we did not want to repair the mechanism that made the table fold out, and there was no need for larger furniture, the sliding structure was eliminated. We just securely fastened the table, and sealed the gap with putty so that nothing betrayed the fact that the table was once sliding.

You do not have to do exactly as we do, especially if the sliding furniture parts are in good condition. But if you want to simplify the restoration, take note of our idea.

We cleaned the putty surface with a grinder, and for reliability we applied an additional layer of putty to some parts and repeated the cleaning step again.

Here we have a perfectly flat, but outwardly unsightly table. To make it change beyond recognition, you need to decorate all the surfaces of the table.

What prospects do not open up before the master, who has such a table as in the photo. How to decorate - a lot of options, from simple coloring to decoupage and other designer tricks.

We decided to decorate with fabric. This is because they could not find drawings of a sufficiently large size among the options for decoupage blanks. And the plans were to pick up large sketches. Luckily, I came across a fabric with an interesting floral plot, so we decided to use it in practice.

First of all, we primed the surface of the table. Then they painted it with white paint. White, because it is this color that imposes on us the interior of the room in which the table will be installed. Therefore, you choose the color of paint for your case.

Now we cut out a piece with a pattern from the fabric, which will become the decoration of our table. The fabric is simply glued to the surface with the appropriate type of adhesive. Make sure the fabric is laid flat. That is why we so carefully leveled the surface of the table.

The result is the same decoupage, but our drawing also ensures that the connected and masked gap from the sliding cover does not crack, because the fabric will hold the surface even stronger.

The finishing step will be the treatment of the table with varnish designed for wood.

After drying, the craft is ready. Agree, it turned out to be a very beautiful piece of furniture, which, despite its venerable age, will serve for several decades before a new restoration.

If you have an old table that has lost its presentable appearance, do not rush to take it to the trash. He has served you for many years, and rest assured, he will serve you even if you give him a little time. The restoration of the table can be carried out in such a way that it will compete with any designer item. New life can be breathed in using completely different methods and techniques. Let's look at the most popular methods.

Options for transforming an old table

To restore an old table with your own hands, you can resort to one of the following options:

  • Veneering (gluing an old wooden surface with veneer).
  • Painting.
  • Pasting with self-adhesive film.
  • Decoupage (application of the tabletop with drawings from napkins, banana or rice paper).
  • Painting using stencils (through a paper or fabric stencil).
  • Tiling.
  • Decor with potali (foil, which is glued in the form of drawings).

Materials and tools for restoration

To restore your old table to its former beauty, you will need the following:

  • Sandpaper.
  • Sander.
  • Paint for wooden surfaces.
  • Impregnation.
  • Primer.
  • Primer roller.
  • Lacquer (colorless and colored).

Also, do not forget about personal protective equipment:

  • Respirator.
  • Protective glasses.
  • Work gloves.

Restoration

To restore an old table with your own hands, you need to follow the following steps:

  • First, inspect the table for scratches, cracks, and other defects. If there are any breakdowns, be sure to fix them. Check all the bolts on the tabletop and legs, tighten them.

Important! by the most the best option will disassemble the table into separate parts, clean them from dust and dirt, and then assemble it again. When assembling for better fixation, you can add glue to the attachment points and wait until completely dry (at least 15 hours).

  • Next, grind the table with a machine or sand it by hand. This will make it possible to align all the problem areas that were not previously visible. Removing old varnish and paint is quite a long and laborious process. Sand the surface with medium-grained, and then fine-grained sandpaper.

Important! Try to sand the wood along the grain. Improper processing can cause defects that are subsequently very difficult to eliminate.

  • Repair all deep scratches and cracks with putty. Let the patches dry completely and then clean and sand the surface.
  • Degrease the table with acetone and prime its surface. For these purposes, you can use a universal primer. Instead of impregnating, prime the countertop 2-3 times, completely drying each layer.
  • Again carefully sand the surface of the table.
  • If there are no cracks, chips and scratches on the countertop, then you can treat it with a water-repellent impregnation, and then cover it with several layers of varnish or stain. This gives the surface a unique effect of fresh wood.
  • In the event that the surface condition is unimportant and subsequently it is planned to decorate the table, then it must be painted. For these purposes, it is better to use water-based paint. Apply with a large brush. When the paint is dry, apply a second coat. Application should be in quick, thin layers. Dry the table for at least four days.

Important! It is advisable to apply dark paint in two or three layers, in order to avoid ugly gaps.

How can you decorate a tabletop?

Restoration of the table is, of course, good. But to create a real work of art, you should design the countertop. To do this, you can choose one of the following methods.

painting

Painting is one of the most popular interior design techniques and hotel household items. There are several options for painting furniture:

  • Art painting with thin brushes.
  • Painting with stamps.
  • Painting using stencils (templates).

Important! For glass countertops, airy and bright painting stained glass paints.

The painting looks incredibly beautiful with the help of tulle or some other lace. To apply an openwork pattern to the surface of the table, you just need to attach the tulle to the table top, fixing it with adhesive tape, and paint the table in the same way as through an ordinary stencil - using a roller, foam rubber sponge or spray paint. It is desirable to choose a paint color that contrasts with the color of the surface.

Important! On a glass tabletop, painting should be applied from the wrong side, while the front side should remain smooth.

Decor tiles

You can update the countertop by decorating it with tiles. The use of tiles on the table opens up great scope for imagination, since today its choice is truly huge. For these purposes, you can choose:

  • Mosaic tiles.
  • Ceramic tiles.
  • Tiles made of plastic composite materials.

Important! It is very convenient to work with tiles in the form of a mosaic. Such a tile is simply cut with a knife. Thus, the extra parts are removed without any problems.

The whole procedure will be creative and simple:

  • Restoration of the table begins with cleaning the surface and its degreasing.
  • Then, with the help of special glue, the tile is fixed on the table.
  • After a few hours, the joints between the tiles are rubbed using grout or a special joint paint for this purpose.

Important! A mosaic of pieces of tile looks very interesting on the table.

potal

Potal are very thin sheets of various metal alloys used to imitate any surface under silver, bronze or gold. The gilding technique is often used in the decoration of furniture along with other decorative techniques and techniques:

  1. To begin with, draw a stencil, on which the potal will subsequently be glued.
  2. Then apply glue to it with a thin brush.
  3. Carefully lay the sweat sheets on the glue.
  4. With a soft brush, very carefully remove unnecessary parts of the sheet.
  5. The thicker the brush with which you apply the glue, the thicker the pattern will be from sweating.

Important! Pieces of sweat sheets that are left over from the design of the countertop in this style can be collected and used again in the form of a powder.

Painting in different colors

You can restore an old table with your own hands by painting it in different colors. This is a very interesting technique that many modern designers use:

  • First, cover the entire countertop with one color.
  • After the paint dries, apply masking tape to create a stencil for the rest of the colors.
  • Using a brush or roller, apply all the other colors one by one.
  • After the paint has dried, remove the masking tape.

Important! On a colored background, you can stick or draw various pictures.

  • Finally, cover the table with two or three layers of clear varnish. This will add strength to the decor and protect against mechanical damage.

Important! Lacquer can be either matte or glossy - according to your desire.

Decoupage

You can update an old table using the decoupage technique without even having special skills. Learning how to create masterpieces in this technique is not difficult at all.

To restore the table using the decoupage technique, you will need the following:

  • Pictures for decoupage - you can use ordinary napkins with your favorite pattern or even images from magazines.
  • PVA glue.
  • Acrylic varnish (it is better to buy varnish in a spray can).
  • Napkin.
  • Acetone or alcohol.
  • Brush.

The sequence of work is as follows:

  • Clean the table of old paint, dirt. After that, degrease the surface by wiping it thoroughly with a rag with alcohol or acetone.

Important! If the surface is poorly cleaned, the decor will turn out to be sloppy.

  • Pick up pictures and make the necessary composition from them. Any image will do: for the kitchen table, you can choose motifs of vegetables and fruits, in various colors. The table with motifs of ancient buildings looks very interesting.

Important! If you use special decoupage pictures, then you don’t need to do anything extra with them - just stick them on, removing the top layer.

  • Arrange the cut out pictures on the table. Mix PVA with water in equal proportions and glue the pictures to the surface in the selected places. To prevent bubbles from forming, smooth the pictures with a napkin, expelling excess air from under them. Then leave the pictures to dry.
  • After the decoupage is completely dry, varnish the surface of the table with pictures. Apply varnish in several stages, waiting for the complete drying of the previous layer.
  • Restoring a table can help turn an old, unnecessary item into a real work of art. In order to decorate a piece of furniture, you can choose any decor option that is convenient for you. As you can see, this does not require a lot of money, strength or skills - even a beginner can cope with this task.

If you have an old dining table that you hold dear as a keepsake, or you just want to save some money on buying new furniture, then you have to interesting job as a restorer or decorator.

Keep in mind that restoring a kitchen table with your own hands is not the easiest and, in some cases, not justified, because not every table can be repaired, and it is better to entrust antiques to professionals. But more often than not, the right "upgrade" can bring your old friend back to life and transform him beyond recognition.

How can the table be updated?

To update kitchen table with your own hands, you can use one of the following proven technologies:

  • Traditional painting - this is the method we will consider in detail in a step-by-step master class.
  • An interesting way of decorating and painting furniture is coloring through tulle - a tabletop is painted through it, and a lace pattern is formed according to the principle of a stencil.
  • Ceramic tiles will allow you to decorate a dilapidated, badly damaged countertop and make it more practical - you can put hot on such a surface and wash it in any way.
  • You can update the old table using decoupage technique. We will also talk about it in more detail.
  • An easy way to modify the table with your own hands quickly and on a budget is to paste over it with a self-adhesive film.
  • Burning will renew an undamaged wood surface.

Master class - 6 steps on the way to a new life

In this simple DIY dining table restoration tutorial, we'll be updating, repairing and repainting this old veneered table with a moderate amount of imperfections.

So, to update the kitchen table you will need:

  1. a grinder or sandpaper of coarse, medium and fine grit, as well as glasses, a respirator and gloves;
  2. alkyd enamel paint of the desired color (or other desired coating, such as stain), as well as a flat, non-shedding paint or art brush;
  3. primer for wood and a small roller / brush for priming;
  4. wax paste or varnish.

Step 1. Inspect and repair parts

We carefully examine all the fasteners in the structure and the defects of the countertop - how much the veneer has delaminated or the tree has been damaged.

If the table is a little loose, then you just need to tighten all the screws. If it requires a more serious restoration, then you need to completely disassemble the table, re-fasten all the parts, or clean and sand all the grooves and joints so that the new glue grabs better, fix the glued parts with clamps or self-tapping screws, and then remove them after 15 hours, when the glue is completely dry.

  • Sometimes the underframe needs to be replaced, not only because its parts are very dilapidated, but also because the legs can completely modify your old table. For example, if earlier the legs were simple, now you can replace them with beautiful carved balusters.
  • When disassembling furniture, do not forget to mark the installation location of each of the parts, so you will not get confused and quickly complete the task.

Step 2. Remove the old coating

Now put on goggles and prepare 2 types of sandpaper: coarse-grained for primary processing and fine-grained for smoothing. Get ready for a long and laborious job - delete old paint or varnish is not a simple matter.

Step 3. We close up cracks and chips

After grinding, we carefully clean the table from dust, inspect the countertop and look for defects. Keep in mind that even the smallest damage will be visible after painting. All chips and cracks must be locally repaired with wood putty or polyester putty, and then sanded the entire surface again when the “patches” dry out.

Note - covering the table with stain:

  • if the countertop does not have severe damage, then you can not hide natural beauty wood and cover it with stain, and then with varnish, shellac or wax. The photo below shows an example of a restored table with a stained oak top.

Step 4. Prime and sand again

We continue to work. Now we need not only to clean the table, but also to degrease it. And after the table dries, proceed to the primer. This step is required, because without it paintwork lay unevenly and quickly get damaged. You can use an alkyd or shellac wood primer. In this master class, the universal alkyd primer Zinsser Cover Stain (pictured below) was used, which dries in just 1 hour, protects the wood well and prepares it for painting. It costs about 500-600 rubles, but is not sold everywhere. The table can be primed in 1-2 coats with a small sponge roller, allowing each coat to dry completely.

When the primer is dry (1 day), sand the countertop again with sandpaper or a medium-grit sanding sponge to smooth the primed surface and prepare it for painting. And don't forget to put your respirator back on!

Step 5. Now let's start painting.

It is very important to choose the right paint and its color. Avoid cheap paints, because this is a dining table, which means that the countertop should be well tolerated by frequent washing, rubbing, bumps, etc. In this case, a premium water-based alkyd enamel paint with a satin finish is used, but you can choose a more environmentally friendly acrylic-based enamel. Also, choose a quality brush with passion so that it does not shed in the process. Not a paintbrush, but a large flat art brush is perfect.

The paint must be applied in 2 thin layers, while the finish layer is best left to dry for 3-4 days.

  • If you have chosen a dark color of paint, then it is better to apply it in 3 thin layers;
  • To create scuffs in the shabby chic style, the paint can be sanded in some places, for example, on the ends of the table;
  • Also, to create the effect of "antique", the table can be patinated.

Step 6. Apply a protective coating

As we said, you can protect the surface of the table with a varnish, for example, a matte water-based polyurethane (in the photo on the left is an excellent varnish from Varathane). It should be applied evenly in 2-3 thin layers, lightly sanding each layer before applying the next layer of varnish. Of course, all layers must be completely dry before sanding (4 hours).

The second option is wax protection, which will make the countertop matte and can be rubbed to a shine. To do this, the wax should be gently rubbed with a cotton cloth into the wood, then allow the first layer to dry for at least 1 hour. After that, polish the surface in a circular motion, and repeat the procedure 2 more times within one day. Well, now be patient and leave the table for 1 week so that the surface acquires the necessary operational properties.

Well, that's all - the restoration is completed, and the old table has found a new life in trendy white.

And here's another interesting video from the program "Cheap and cheerful" on the topic of restoring countertops at home from improvised means.

Updating the countertop with decoupage

If you do not want to stop there or your table does not have serious damage, but just needs a little update, then you can decorate the table with drawings: paint it manually with acrylic paints, use stencils and stamps, or update the table with decoupage. Perhaps, it is this decor technique that is popular today that we will consider in more detail, because decoupage will not only allow you to quickly and budgetly transform the table or, for example, style it like Shabby chic (as in the photo below), but also hide some defects of the dilapidated surface.

The kitchen is a place where the tenants of the apartment spend a lot of time: they cook here, eat food, but often also arrange gatherings with friends. Therefore, naturally, you want the room to look attractive.

Favorite cozy kitchen becomes a place for family communication, a room in which they often spend most of their free time.

The tabletop belongs to that part kitchen set, which, due to regular use, increased susceptibility to various kinds of damage, loses its attractiveness the fastest. If the damage is minor, then it is worth repairing the countertop - the options depend on the material used in its manufacture.

The countertop used in the kitchen is subjected to various loads during its operation.

If the surface is no longer subject to restoration, then it is worth thinking about a more radical method - its complete replacement. Let us consider in more detail the options for how to update the countertop in the kitchen with your own hands.

Homemade table with ceramic tiles looks unusual

The result of replacing the countertop and the view of the kitchen before and after

They update the existing countertop in different ways - the end result here largely depends only on your imagination. However, there are three main options that are most popular.

Transforming the kitchen after replacing the countertops and facades

In the first place in terms of creativity and prevalence is the painting of the tabletop using a stencil. This method allows you to implement any ideas, being also the least expensive in terms of money. The desired pattern can be found on the Internet, printed, then it will only be necessary to cut out the stencil itself (thick cardboard or thin plastic is used), and it's time to get to work.

With the help of stencils, you can bring to life almost any idea, and this method will not be expensive.

In addition to the stencil, you will also need acrylic paints desired colors, brush, foam sponge. Before painting, it is necessary to prepare the surface: wash it, degrease it. Next, the countertop is covered with the main color, then, using a template and a sponge, the selected pattern is applied. To prevent the paint from flowing under the stencil, the pattern turned out to be clear, experts recommend applying paint on a sponge with a thin layer. If in doubt that the sponge will be able to accurately apply the image, use a brush.

Stencil painting goes well with decoupage. On the surface of the work area, regularly used and cleaned with chemical detergents, this method is not recommended to be used, but, for example, a dining table or a bar countertop in a studio apartment, you can safely decorate it this way.

You can make a creative thing with your own hands if you use the decoupage technique

The main thing is not to overdo it with the number of drawings, choose the right combination of pictures for decoupage and a painting pattern, otherwise it may turn out to be sloppy.

Tools, as well as material costs, are also needed to a minimum here. Ready-made decoupage pictures are sold in all stores with goods for creativity, but you can save money by cutting out drawings from napkins, magazines, newspapers. The work is carried out in several stages:

  1. clean, degrease the surface;
  2. dilute the PVA glue with water (one to one ratio), moisten the pictures with this solution;
  3. carefully glue the images to the countertop, smooth them to remove air bubbles from under them;
  4. after complete drying, the surface is varnished in three, and preferably four layers (each layer must dry before applying the next).

The second option for updating the working plane of a kitchen set with your own hands is a coating decorative tiles. This option is suitable for plastic, wooden countertops, as well as those made of fiberboard / chipboard. For this, even the usual ceramic tile, but the mosaic looks much better.

It is advisable to combine the tiles on the countertop in size and shades - so the pattern will be more original

When choosing colors future coverage, experts recommend taking into account the style of the apron located above working area. More original design obtained by using a combination of tiles that differ in size and color.

Also, tiles can be combined with mosaics in the form of large tiles, which greatly facilitates and speeds up the decor process.

To update the tiles, you will need the tile itself, glue for it, and grout. The sequence of actions during the work is similar to the previous method of restoring the countertop: the surface must be washed, dried, then glue is applied, and tiles are laid. When everything is dry, grout is applied over the tile.

The most costly way to repair countertops is the third - using tempered glass. But the result looks accordingly - expensive. The set of actions is standard: cleaning, degreasing the surface, coating with paint, after drying - laying, fixing the glass sheet.

A painted tabletop with glass will look presentable and very rich.

For more effective appearance instead of a plain layer of paint, apply some pattern to the countertop. To do this, they often use screen painting or the same decoupage. Tempered glass will protect the pattern from abrasion, give greater strength to the table itself (unless, of course, you chop meat with an ax here). Also, experts recommend that such a design be removed from the stove.

You can lay the glass directly on the raw surface with any texture

Not recoverable

Sometimes repairing an old countertop is more expensive than buying a new one. Here the choice is obvious - it is better to replace it. There are a lot of options today, so there is an opportunity to choose for every taste, color and budget. Also, when choosing, it is worth considering the overall style of the kitchen set.

Countertops come in five types:

  • from fiberboard / chipboard;
  • wooden;
  • metal;
  • stone;
  • glass.

Worktops made of fiberboard or chipboard, covered on top, for greater resistance to moisture, high temperatures, a layer of plastic, - best option according to the ratio "price - quality". They are also distinguished by a wide variety of textures, care for them is extremely simple, resistance to various kinds of damage is quite high. Qualitatively coated with a water-repellent sealant joints significantly extend the life of the surface, and also retain its original shape. Disadvantages of plastic - scratches, stains may remain.

Stone planes are divided into two subspecies: from artificial stone or natural. Them hallmarks are high strength, resistance to any external influences (moisture, temperature, etc.), attractive appearance.

Kitchen worktop made of natural stone

A practical and less expensive option is an artificial stone countertop.

The main disadvantages are a lot of weight, high cost, in addition, having damaged some part of the countertop, it will have to be completely changed.

Metal tables are made of stainless steel and are used mainly in professional kitchens. They are resistant to mechanical, chemical influences, they are not afraid of moisture and high temperatures, while the price also “does not bite”. This material has no particular drawbacks, however, some tend to argue that it contributes to the loss useful properties products cut on such a table.

Stainless steel work table

Wooden countertops are preferred by lovers of everything natural, eco-friendly, aesthetically attractive. However, at the same time, it is worth considering the rather rapid “wear and tear” of the material, plus it can fade from the sun or under the influence of high temperatures, and if the varnish coating is damaged, it can deform, therefore, it requires special care. In addition, the price of the surface is quite high.

Solid wood top uses high-strength ash, oak, maple, cherry, walnut or bamboo wood

As for the glass kitchen planes, they are not suitable for every design - for example, in an old Khrushchev with a "grandmother's" repair, such a surface will look at least strange, but it looks perfect on a modern spacious kitchen. Advantages of glass table top - impact resistance, resistance to high humidity, high temperatures, large selection of colors. Among the disadvantages are the high cost, the need for special care.

We change qualitatively and correctly with our own hands

The replacement process does not require special skills, however, it will be useful to first figure out how to update the countertop of the kitchen set. So you can do everything right, avoid mistakes that can affect the life of the surface.

From the tools you will need a drill with drills, a jigsaw, files, sandpaper (preferably fine-grained), sealant, spatula, for marking and taking measurements - a pencil, tape measure, pattern, square.

Tools and materials that you will need to replace the countertop with your own hands

When everything you need is prepared, get to work. First you need to turn off the water and other communications, remove the sink and hob, then dismantle the old countertop. Experts recommend dismantling carefully, it is advisable to keep the parts with which it was attached - perhaps you will need corners, some screws from the old set.

After dismantling the countertop, it is necessary to remove the remnants of the old sealant at the joints with the wall

Having dismantled the old surface, it is necessary to wash the place where the new one will be installed well, giving Special attention joints. If there are no holes for the hob and sink in the countertop yet, it's time to make them.

We use the old countertop as a stencil for cutting out a new one, we attach linings along the edges to avoid moisture ingress

In the case of glass, stone or wood, in the absence of confidence that you can do everything right with your own hands and do not spoil the expensive material in this way, it is better to entrust the cutting of the corresponding holes to specialists.

We make markings for washing and hob, carefully cut holes

We cover with sealant and insert the sink into the new countertop

Next, the tabletop fits into place. Before attaching to the wall and the rest of the headset, you need to make sure that it lies strictly horizontally. When all fasteners are installed, the countertop is ready for use.

We mount the upper profile on the lock, then connect the siphon to the sink and install the mixer

The only thing that can be done is for greater aesthetics, and at the same time reliability of use, to close the joints with corners.

We close the joint of the tabletop with the wall with a decorative plinth and install the corners
