Projects of stairs with a turn of 90 degrees. We make a wooden marching staircase with a turn with our own hands. Calculation of a turntable at ninety degrees

Even a one-story object is not without steps inside - there are stairs to the attic or low, often found structures in the interior, crowning the design idea. A house with several tiers needs special lifts, and the ease of use and safety of home depends on what type of stairs the owner chooses for self-construction. The most common option is a do-it-yourself staircase to the second floor made of wood with a 90-degree turn.

As a rule, these are L- or U-shaped two-march models. The rotation angle is 90 and 180, respectively.

In addition, stairs are divided into the following options:

Additional advantages of both options are convenience and safety. The structures are calculated in such a way that they can withstand the weight of the cargo carried to the second floor and a sufficient number of assistants. The width and depth of the steps will allow older people and young children to use the stairs without fear for their safe movement.

Designing a 90 degree turntable

Small houses for a small family do not need wide and bulky spans. Therefore, consider the construction corner stairs in 90 with running elements instead of a transition platform. It will take up little space, since it has only one march, several steps act as the second. It is best to arrange the structure with a clockwise rotation.

Tools and materials

The choice of wood must be approached carefully.

First, why wood? Because only this raw material lends itself to self-fitting and design - in the process, you can make mistakes with calculations and correct inconsistencies very easily.

Secondly, this a budget option building material.

Thirdly, wooden houses require similar stairs - steel or concrete are incompatible.

As for the breed, it is important to choose hard varieties- beech, oak, larch.

Budget pine is allowed, it is only important to ensure that there are no inclusions of knots in the boards and timber, which makes the breed very sinful. A residential building is characterized by violent activity - moisture, temperature changes, dry air. From this, the ladder to one degree or another will begin to deform and the knots will fall out of their places, creating a dangerous situation for the operation of the product. Before manufacturing parts, all wood is dried and impregnated with moisture-repellent and protective compounds against biological damage - mold, bug.

The required tools are known to every carpenter:

  • hacksaw;
  • electric jigsaw - it will help to gently round the edges;
  • screwdriver;
  • hammer or mallet;
  • bit;
  • square;
  • level.

For the design of parts choose:

  • support beam with a section of 100 mm or more (depending on height);
  • edged board 50 mm thick;
  • auxiliary beam with a section of 40 mm;
  • fasteners: self-tapping screws, steel corners, anchors, screws, bolts;
  • wood glue or epoxy.

Accessories should not cause complaints. It is better to select fasteners in anti-corrosion design - the difference in temperatures of building materials will create conditions for the occurrence of condensate, which is detrimental to both metal and wood.

Calculation of stairs to the second floor made of wood with a 90 degree turn

Before starting work, it is required to prepare a drawing, where all the components of the structure are scrupulously noted. To do this, use the calculation formulas or computer programs.

To draw up an accurate, verified design of a staircase with a 90 turn, it is important to know the following values:

  • March width. It is important to proceed from your own wishes, however, it should not be less than 80 mm.
  • The length of the projection of the stairway from the last upper riser to the corner of the central winder step.
  • Step width. Minimum 120 mm.
  • Step height. Maximum 220 mm.

The calculation for the actual dimensions of winder steps is carried out on graph paper. To do this, two rectangles are drawn, depicting marches with known parameters, converted to scale values, with a line passing through their centers. They are connected by an arc of a circle through which the radius of the central winder will pass. From it, the layout of the elements is performed, following the optimal and uniform width.

Example: a two-flight staircase with a long and short span of 8 and 2 steps, respectively. Winder steps in the amount of three pieces are located at an angle of 30?. The design has the following parameters: opening length - 2294 mm, width - 930 mm, height to ceiling - 2683 mm. Step length - 825 mm, width - 208 mm, riser height - 206 mm. It remains to indicate the actual dimensions of each part on paper and you can start cutting.

Sawing stringers

For the load-bearing parts of the stairs, a template is made - a right-angled triangle with the dimensions of the depth of the step and the height of the riser. It is cut out of plywood or use a square. Marking is applied with a pencil, they are checked with the rule - thin part from the width of the board no more than 15 cm - and cut out the excess.

It is better to use a jigsaw - it will carefully cut off the parts along the marked lines. The ends of the prepared boards are immediately sanded to prevent them from going into chips.

Installation of support poles

To fix the stringers, a 100 mm support bar is attached. The place of its installation is determined by the drawing. Most likely, it is located diagonally opposite the corner of the room. The beam is fastened with steel corners, anchor bolts or concreted into the floor - depending on the stage of construction of the house. In addition to a thick support, a bar with a cross section of up to 50 mm is used. It is used to make supports for a wall stringer and a base for laying winder steps.

Stringer fastening

Work begins from above, so that all the shortcomings fall on the bottom, where it will be incomparably easier to fix them. The stringers are attached to the ceiling with the help of steel corners, bolts or self-tapping screws. The lower part must be inserted into the support bar. To do this, a groove is hollowed out or cut out on it. Its dimensions are 2 cm deep, and the width and length are 1 mm less than the end. This is necessary in order for the kosour to enter tightly. For reliable fixation, a paste is prepared from sawdust and wood glue. It is put inside and knocked out with a kosour mallet.

The wall element is fixed similarly at the top, and from below it is fixed to a metal corner to a support of a smaller section, having previously sawn out the end for laying the winder. All work is carried out with the indispensable observance of the level, otherwise future steps will not lie parallel to the floor.

Making steps for stairs

Steps for marches are cut according to the template. These are the same elements and difficulties should not arise. Easy installation and winder steps. For them, a separate platform is purchased from boards or plywood and the steps are cut out according to the drawing - the lines come out of one corner. When all the elements are prepared, they are treated with protective compounds and varnished in several layers.

Assembling the stairs to the second floor with a turn

Unlike the fastenings of the supports, the steps are temporarily fixed from below - subsequently, after fitting all the details, the structure is disassembled and, after processing, laid again. They make a bowstring for the lower march - a board according to the principle of a kosour, but without coal cuts for laying steps. In the inner part of the wooden element, grooves are knocked out or sawn out, where the steps will be inserted.

The wall short bowstring is made in the same way as described above. The upper end of the outer string must reliably hide the end of the winder, and the lower end is cut off perpendicular to the floor for the subsequent installation of the riser. Having installed the first straight elements on self-tapping screws on the outside and adhesive paste on the inside, they proceed to laying the radius ones. They are fixed in the same way. Straight steps are laid, sawing grooves at the ends for inserting into the stringer. Before fixing on fasteners, all elements are glued.

The risers also lead from below. Inexperienced craftsmen make the mistake of making workpieces equal to a tight fit between steps. This is not necessary - the house will live a busy life, where moisture and steam are present. Swollen, the elements will be able to break the entire structure, or at least deform it. A 5 mm gap is enough to keep the ladder model strong for many years.

Fences and balusters

A significant role in the interior is played by decorative elements of the stairs - railings and balusters. They are bought ready-made. But if the master has golden hands, nothing prevents them from making them on their own.

Special attention to fastening: it is required to have balusters often - on each step. This will create additional support and safety for children and elderly homeowners. Besides, it's beautiful.

It is impossible to fasten the balusters to the steps with self-tapping screws - it is not reliable. It is better to use dowels - small wooden rods like dowels. For them, holes are specially drilled at the edges of the steps, which should be a couple of millimeters smaller than the rod. Before inserting the dowel, the hole is filled with glue or epoxy.

Holes are also drilled in the balusters themselves, moistened with a fixing compound, and the elements are put on wooden rods. The design is carefully knocked out with a mallet for better adhesion.

on the top baluster and support post string or string is pulled. It is pre-blackened to make accurate marks on all decorative elements. All excess upper parts are cut off, keeping a parallel with the stringer - so, the fence will lie flat. The handrail is either put on the balusters and screwed with screws from below, or fixed from above, but then the fasteners will have to be puttied.

The finished staircase should be passed from top to bottom with a grinder or sandpaper and cleaned of fine chip dust. After that, they decide what kind of decoration with decorative compositions is required - usually, wooden surfaces are varnished, stained or painted if the quality of the material is not the best.

How to care for a wooden staircase

Wood is the most capricious construction material and without proper care, the staircase will not serve its owners for a measured period.

What you need to know so that the operation of the turntable is reliable and long:

  • Do not expose the structure to excessive moisture. Cleaning consists in wiping wooden surfaces with a damp cloth without the use of aggressive detergents- alkalis, solvents, acids. The final stage of cleaning will be wiping the surfaces dry with the addition of a special wax for furniture.
  • It is important to create a ventilation balance in the house, since overdrying for wood is fraught with cracking and creating cracks for mold breeding centers and bark beetle larvae. In inconspicuous dark places, they breed with catastrophic speed.
  • Eliminate all problems in a timely manner - sticking joints, unscrewing fasteners, loss of stiffness of steps and railings, creaking. Prevention is primarily important for the safety of the owners. If required, the structure is dismantled or the failed elements are replaced.

It is important to remember that finished staircase will shrink, like any wood product. Therefore, it is not recommended to self-assembly immediately tightly - for 2-3 weeks the ladder should stand assembled "on the fly".

Simple methods of preserving the original appearance of a wooden turning staircase will allow home master be proud of your own product for a long time. However, any staircase is a consumable home interior item and over time it will require replacement. This is important to remember if the owners are going to make a model from valuable breeds.

If it is not difficult to understand the calculations of a single-flight staircase, then the drawings of two mid-flight structures, with a turn of 90 and 180 °, are not an easy task. It is especially difficult to design winder turning steps, which are equipped with stairs due to architectural features building.

Zhitov online constructor

Dmitry Zhitov's program is free calculations of drawings, projects and costing for 14 options for wooden and metal stairs. To make a staircase using the online designer, on home page site should be selected, the project of interest. In each of the calculations there is a general drawing of a staircase of a certain model, its top and side views, drawings for the step template and bowstrings.

The initial data is indicated, which the user will manipulate, changing them, according to his requirements. These changes will make adjustments to the drawings and indicators for steps and bowstrings. The general data includes dimensions in millimeters:

  • height and length of the staircase;
  • the width of the platform, it is also the width of the stairs;
  • thickness and protrusion of steps;
  • the presence of a platform or the number of winder steps is indicated.

Dmitry Zhitov's online designer calculates and then issues dimensions and drawings, in accordance with the convenience formula, with the proper step depth and acceptable slope angle, which is a link in the "Recommendations" window. If given dimensions, do not allow you to create a staircase, according to the convenience formula, then the program indicates the percentage of discrepancy and recommends changing the number, depth, protrusion of steps or the length of the opening.

The greater the percentage of discrepancy from the formula, the greater or less the height and depth of the steps become, the angle of inclination increases, which makes the stairs uncomfortable, and even dangerous. Changes are made until the result meets the parameters of a comfortable staircase, or a different staircase configuration is selected.

Among all online calculators, this one is the most accurate, detailed, visual and understandable. Unfortunately, not all types of stairs are provided by the service, but there is hope that over time the options will be supplemented.

How to independently make calculations, projects and drawings for two mid-flight L-shaped stairs with a platform, rotated by 90 ° using Dmitry Zhitov's program

All basic projects wooden structures the program offers a sufficient and economical width of stairs of 80 cm. L-shaped stairs have two flights of longer and shorter lengths. Between them there may be a platform or turning steps, one of which will be angular. In what cases steps are made instead of a platform and how to work with Zhitov's online constructor can be described in a specific example.

L-shaped wooden staircase with a platform

The basic software project of a wooden staircase on bowstrings offers calculations and design drawings:

Let's assume that the height and length of the opening do not fit in the source data. The height of the room where the staircase will be built reaches 2700 mm, and because of the floor beams of the second floor, the length of the opening can be made 2500 mm. The height of the opening will be the sum of the ceiling thickness (for example, 300 mm) and the height of the room: 2700+300=3000.

In the right field, with variable data, it is necessary to replace the height of the opening (Y) by setting 3000, and the length of the opening (X) 2500. Calculate.

After the calculation, you should pay attention not to the change in the drawings, but to look in the "Recommendations" window. With our substituted data, the discrepancy with the convenience formula is 33.8%, and the angle of inclination has become critical - 46.6° (the most convenient 30–40°).

The program recommends increasing the number of steps by three, the length of the opening by 443 mm, or using a different staircase design. Extra steps will lead to their insufficient depth, which will have to be compensated by an increase in the protrusion, and the angle of the staircase will increase. The length of the flight of stairs is limited by a wall or a closely spaced door, and the floor beams do not allow the upper opening to be extended. This is the case when it is worth resorting to the device of stairs with winder steps.

Wooden staircase with 90° turn steps

Swivel steps on a wooden staircase will save space, maintain the convenience and functionality of the structure.

By choosing a staircase model with 90° turning steps, where the total number of steps is 13, turning - three, lower steps - four. We introduce the same parameters: the height of the opening is 3000 mm and the length is 2500 mm. After recalculations, the program claims that such a staircase is relatively comfortable, the discrepancies with the convenience formula are 12.9%, the slope angle is 39.2°. It is recommended to add two steps.

This project is acceptable, but following program recommendations, it is worth trying to add two stages. To do this: increase the total number of steps (C) to 15; there are three turning steps; we make five lower steps. After calculations, the angle of inclination is 39.5 °, the staircase corresponds to the convenience formula. Now you should turn to the drawings and make sure that the designed structure is almost perfect.

Ladder with 39.5° slope

  1. With a staircase width of 800 mm, three turning steps have been preserved, this is a very convenient ratio.
  2. The distance from the upper step of the lower flight to the ceiling is 2000 mm, which is quite enough even for a tall person. Rising further, it will be under the ceiling opening, and nothing will interfere with the movement.
  3. Step height 200 mm, depth - 293 mm, riser depth - 150 mm. These are excellent indicators with which the stairs will be comfortable.

Now you can use ready-made drawings, templates for making steps and bowstrings. The dimensions of the rotary steps are shown on a separate drawing.

Wooden stairs with 180° U-shape

Zhitov's online constructor has four options for such structures, two of which are two marching and two three marching.

  • platform between the upper and lower march;
  • turning steps between marches, two of which are angular;
  • platforms after the lower and before the upper marches with steps between the platforms;
  • turning steps after the lower and before the upper flights with straight steps between the turning ones.

All U-shaped stairs are very capricious in calculations, they require significant areas, and an increased width of the ceiling opening. Unlike L-shaped structures, two stairways with a 180 ° turn have a larger platform and turning steps.

This makes it difficult to design a staircase with the proper slope and comfort formula. It is very difficult to make such calculations on your own. By changing the number of steps in the Zhitov program, you can achieve the most acceptable sizes. Percentage deviations from the convenience formula are acceptable if the angle of inclination remains convenient, and the depth and height of the steps are acceptable. But with a small length and width of the opening, it is sometimes impossible to create a U-shaped staircase.

Do-it-yourself calculations and drawings of two-flight metal stairs with a turn of 90 and 180 ° using the Zhitov program

All metal stairs in the online constructor are presented:

Variants of turning stairs are offered only with landings without winders. In addition to the exact dimensions of the parts, the program will determine the required amount of material. The drawings are made for two stringers, without changing the calculations, marches are easy to perform on one stringer. If you need to create metal structure on bowstrings covering the steps, you should use the drawings for a wooden staircase. To calculate the turning steps for a metal staircase, it is also recommended to resort to calculations of wooden stairs of the same configuration. The proposed width of the metal stairs is 90 cm. Despite the uniform calculations, the depth and height of the steps, metal staircase sometimes it is easier to fit into space than a wooden one. Such a design is created easier and cheaper.

C-shaped stairs

Calculations of rotary C-shaped structures are based on the calculations of round stairs, the most complex and problematic. Projects for them are created by CAD programs (computer-aided design systems) such as AutoCAD, since it is necessary to work with many variable data. Zhitov's online constructor does not contain such calculations. The project of a C-shaped staircase, which does not allow the slightest inaccuracies, is best entrusted to a specialist.

Winder, turning corners and steps, features of corner stairs

What are winder, rotary steps

For turns of flights of stairs, steps are designed with an inner side that is narrower than their outer side. These steps are called running or turning. Typically, one of them L-shaped stairs, and two in U-shaped, are angular. The outer side of the corner steps forms a right angle. The number of winder steps depends on the width of the stairs. With a staircase width of 800 mm, the optimal number of steps is:

  • three for stairs with a 90° turn;
  • five for stairs with a 180° turn.

You can increase the number of steps without losing convenience with a larger width of the stairs.

Features of corner stairs

In residential premises, L-shaped stairs are most often adjacent to one or two walls. They can be built:

  • on one stringer;
  • on two stringers;
  • on bowstrings;
  • the outer side of the steps is mounted on a bowstring, and adjacent to the wall, it rests on a stringer attached to the wall.

The latter option is mainly applied to wooden stairs, which are offered only on bowstrings in Zhitov's program. But according to the drawing of the template for steps and bowstrings, it is not at all difficult to calculate a wooden stringer for straight steps, creating a turning staircase with a flat platform.

For turning steps, the program gives a separate drawing of their top view, but does not provide diagrams of step templates and bowstrings. The distance between the cuts on the bowstrings for the wide side of the winders must be calculated by yourself, which is not at all difficult, having drawings with all the necessary dimensions. It is more difficult to calculate and draw a kosour for such steps. Due to the clarity of Zhitov's calculations, this is quite possible. The same applies to U-shaped stairs.

The calculation of turning stairs is somewhat more complicated than the calculation of straight stairs.
The calculation of the convenience of the stairs is calculated by a formula based on the length of the step.
Human stride length ranges from 60 to 66 cm, with an average of 63 cm.
A comfortable staircase corresponds to the formula: 2 step heights + step depth = 63 ± 3 cm.

The most comfortable slope of the stairs is from 30° to 40°.
The depth of the steps of the stairs should correspond to shoe size 45 - at least 28-30 cm.
The lack of depth can be compensated by the protrusion of the step.
The height of the step should be up to 20-25 cm.

You can also achieve the convenience of a turntable by changing the height of the platform.

The program will draw drawings of the turning stairs with basic angles and dimensions.
The drawings show the overall dimensions of the stairs, marking the top of the steps on the bowstrings, the corners of the steps and the main dimensions of the steps themselves.

To create stairs, the most different materials. But wooden options are always in fashion, which are considered a model of style and Russian traditions. The use of wood creates a feeling of comfort and home warmth. While creating key moments thoughtful installation, standards and calculations are considered. Do-it-yourself staircase to the second floor made of wood with a 90 turn is installed in compliance with all design rules. Such a product will take up little space.

Varieties of stairs to the second floor: photo options

To choose the option of stairs, you need to decide on the type of device and material. The choice of system depends on the placement in the rooms, the features of the layout and individual needs. Ceramics, wood, metal and plexiglass are used as materials.

The following types of stairs are distinguished:

  • marching structures are made on bowstrings or stringers;

  • screw options are made on supports in the form of a carrier rack;

  • models on the bolts are bevelless designs. The steps are mounted to the wall and connected with bolts;

  • combined include several varieties of designs.

For the kosour, supports are installed, which are located against the wall. Work must be controlled with a level.

Important! For strong fastening of the kosour, a small recess is cut in the beam.

The nuances of making wooden stairs to the second floor: assembly and installation of steps

A high-quality and solid staircase is not just a necessary functional element of engineering planning in two-level or more dwellings, but also a magnificent decoration of the interior of the whole house.

In order to acquire such a design, you can either purchase it at ready-made or do it yourself. If you prefer the second way, then it is better to make a system for the second floor of wood with a 90 degree turn. It is this type of staircase that is considered the most comfortable for movement and takes up relatively little space in the house. How to make one yourself wooden system and will be discussed in this article.

Staircase with 90 degree turn - why this particular system

Choosing the most best option ladder system, it is best to stop at the mid-flight stairs with a 90-degree turn. Its main advantages are:

  • saving room space - in contrast to the direct system, the rotary system requires less square meters room area;
  • ease of installation - of course, compared to a straight design, a 90 degree swivel has a more complex calculation and installation process, but at the same time it is easier to manufacture, unlike screw and 180 º swivel systems;
  • comfort of movement - if all standard safety requirements were taken into account during the installation of the stairs, then this system is considered quite convenient and comfortable to use.

A lot of good and high-quality materials are offered for the production of the structure, but still the best of them for private country house is natural wood. It is she who creates a unique coziness and a feeling of comfort throughout the home.

Accurate calculation is the first step to success

The main point at the very beginning of the manufacture of a wooden staircase with a 90-degree turn to the second floor is the exact calculation of the structure. And, if you follow a clear product design plan, you can make a high-quality and comfortable staircase in the house and with your own hands.

It is the exact calculation that simplifies the installation of the system, and also guarantees its comfort and long service life.

Key construction details

The main details to be calculated are:

  • load-bearing beams - stringers or bowstring;
  • steps - in rotary systems, these are straight steps and rotary (winder), with the help of which the rotation of the structure is formed;
  • fencing - includes balusters and handrails.

Calculation tools

The calculation of turning stairs is carried out using:

  • geometric formulas;
  • graphic methods;
  • online calculator.

When calculating a wooden staircase with a 90-degree turn, the following recommended parameters should be used:

  • height of steps - no more than 20 cm;
  • tread width - about 40 cm;
  • assembly tilt angle - from 25 to 35 degrees;
  • turning steps - the width on the narrowest side is not less than 100 mm, the overhang of the turning step over the previous one is not more than 50 mm;
  • the height of the fence is at least 90 cm.

When calculating the design, follow the proportions and parameters that are comfortable for the movement of an adult

How much material is needed

To build a staircase to the second floor with our own hands made of wood with a 90-degree turn, we need:

  • load-bearing timber 100 x 100 mm;
  • edged board 40-50 mm wide;
  • finished handrails and balusters;
  • wood glue for sealing all joint gaps.

In order for the construction to come out of high quality and reliable, choose dried and well-treated wood.

For the manufacture of a stair swivel structure, use only natural and high-quality processed wood

Prepare the tool

To mount the rotary system, you will need the following inventory:

  • wood saw;
  • hammer;
  • electric drill;
  • drill;
  • file;
  • electric screwdriver;
  • jigsaw;
  • level.

Assembly of the structure

Do-it-yourself erection of a rotary structure should take place strictly according to this plan:

  • Manufacturing and installation of stringers.
  • Step manufacturing.
  • Manufacture of bowstrings for the lower flight of stairs.
  • Step installation.
  • Fencing installation.
  • Sanding and varnishing stairs.

Production and installation of stringers

Kosour is usually made from wooden beam, the length of which corresponds to one flight of stairs, and the thickness is about 5 cm.

Before you start sawing the stringer deck, you need to make a template. As a template, you can use a triangular piece of plywood sheet. According to this sample, markup is applied to the deck and a sawtooth part is cut out.

Before you start sawing the kosour, make precise markings on it

Then the stringers are fixed at the location of the stairs. Experts advise starting the installation by attaching the kosura from the top so that you can fix minor flaws at the bottom. At the bottom of the floor, the part is fixed with anchor bolts or concreted into the floor.

Step manufacturing

The steps and risers for the structure are also cut according to the template. All steps, except for the turning ones, must be the same. Running products are cut according to a prepared sample made according to a drawing.

All parts are coated with a protective agent and varnished.

Make steps the right sizes cut board

Manufacture and fastening of the bowstring

The upper part of the outer string support hides the end of the turning step, and its bottom is attached to the floor.

Installation of steps

The steps are installed by fixing them with screws and carpentry glue. When installing the rotary treads, it is necessary to monitor the reliability of the connection. The fastening of the risers starts from the bottom of the structure and then goes up.

Fence Installation

Balusters are fastened to the steps with wooden rods. Before inserting it, special glue is dripped into the hole.

In the places where the flights of stairs turn, at the beginning and at the end of the flight, you need to install massive balusters (pedestals), which will also act as a handrail retainer. Next, handrails are attached to the installed balusters.

Finishing work

On this final stage a ready-made wooden structure to the second floor with a 90-degree turn is sanded and varnished.

Be sure to treat the finished structure with varnish, which will provide not only a beautiful appearance stairs, but also long service life
