Budget repair of a small corridor. Modern renovation in the corridor ideas photo useful tips. Budget repair in the hallway Repair of the corridor in the apartment design

Unfortunately, a huge number of our fellow citizens still live in apartments that do not have a large area, especially in the hallways. As a rule, they are either tiny square or represent a narrow small corridor. For this reason, it is simply impossible to place the necessary furniture in such a small space and you have to contrive and fantasize. But this does not mean that the interior of a small hallway in an apartment cannot be made cozy, original and original!

In the struggle for every precious centimeter, you need to take into account some of the subtleties and secrets of design. Firstly, the arrangement of a small space always requires minimalism and in this situation it is better to refuse various decorative details, it is also recommended to do without open hangers. by the most the best option for a small hallway will be a closet. Such a cabinet can be installed even without a back wall. Using this option, the cabinet will fit very tightly against the wall, and its design will be close to the built-in cabinet. Well, it’s better not to experiment, and order a built-in wardrobe according to your size, which will fit perfectly into the space and save precious space.

You should not refuse mezzanines, which can help out the owners of small apartments, because they are very roomy and you can place a huge number of things in them. There is an opinion that mezzanines are not suitable for a small hallway, not fitting into its design, but in life it all depends on the specific version of the object. In one interior, they will really look bulky, as if crushing and hanging over your head, and in another, they will fit perfectly and become indispensable for the people around you.

To visually expand the room, you can use mirrors. Firstly, the wardrobe doors can be made in a mirror version, or you can hang a small hanging mirror, under which you can put a chest of drawers or a shoe cabinet. But if there are small children in the family, then it is better to refuse mirrored doors and mirrors, taking care of safety. As for the interior door that opens into the hallway, it is better if it is with glass inserts, in which case the hallway will become brighter. You can also use the option with sliding doors accordions, or completely abandon the doors, arranging a decorative arch in the opening.

To make a small room visually appear larger, it should be done in bright colors, but to bright accents must be treated with caution, of course they can be used, only the main thing is that they blend well and harmonize with each other.

Lighting is also important, because there are no windows in the hallways, as a result of which there is no natural light. If the hallway is a long corridor, then best solution in this case, there will be non-standard wall sconces or fixtures built into the ceiling, which are best placed in a row at a certain distance from each other.

Equipping a small hallway, experts recommend not to use Wall panels from PVC and MDF, as well as decorative plaster, as these dressing materials take away precious centimeters. It is better to use high-quality, non-woven or vinyl wallpaper, because they do an excellent job of decorating the interior, without using additional space.

Floors also need to be decorated in light colors. Speaking about any floor covering, it should be noted that when it is laid in the corridor and, as it were, enters the room in a semicircle, it visually increases the space of the hallway by an order of magnitude.

Repair in the house is always considered a responsible event. Each room needs to update the wall decoration, decorate the ceiling, cover the flooring and fill the room with new stylish furniture.

At the same time, apartment owners often leave repairs in the hallway for later, as the final “dessert”. This is explained by the fact that this room is, in fact, a "passage", therefore, all construction waste in the process of work is placed here.

But this does not mean that the design of the hallway does not need to be given due attention, since this room is considered "face" of housing, on which the first impression of the owners of the house and their tastes will depend.

Peculiarities

In addition, the constant opening of the front doors provokes the penetration of cold air, which can increase humidity and cause condensation.

In order to avoid the appearance of fungus and mold, repairs in the hallway must be carried out with high quality, sticking to a clear plan and sequence, choose a good building material.

As a rule, a corridor upgrade should consist of the following steps:

 • lighting installations;
 • rational distribution of space;
 • finishing of all types of surfaces;
 • laying flooring;
 • furnishings.

It is worth noting that the repair technology directly depends on the layout of the hallway, its shape and size. To date, there are such types of hallways: a compartment, a box, a corridor, a “burrow with a snout”.

A small “box” room is found in brick buildings, which are called “Khrushchevs”, its area does not exceed 4 m2. Doors in the room can lead directly to living areas or a bathroom. "Boxes" are also in the "Stalinka". It's not hard to repair here. the only problem may be only the arrangement of furniture.

A corridor-type entrance hall is available in panel houses, this is a narrow and long room. Finishing work in the corridor is easy, the only thing you need to pay attention to here is The right way organization of space. The “burrow with a snout” looks similar, give the new kind such a room is difficult.

The narrow and cramped space does not allow you to chicly accelerate in the finish. The most important thing in hallways of this type is to install good sources lighting.

As for the compartment rooms, they are a small square room with an adjacent corridor, they can have a winding or stepped look. Such hallways are included in the layout of both new buildings and old buildings.

The main point in their repair is considered to be high-quality surface finish and rational use of space.

Types of finishing works

Any hallway, regardless of its shape and size, can become a beautiful and stylish room, for this you just need to give it a second wind and make cosmetic repairs.

Before starting work, finishing materials and tools are selected, the old surface is dismantled and the room is cleaned of debris. If you are planning a renovation, then you should worry about the availability design project and professional craftsmen.

The process of updating the hallway must necessarily consist of such types of work.

wall decoration

Traditionally, wallpapering is used for this. First, the old canvases are dismantled, if necessary, the wiring and other communications are replaced, and new doors are installed. Then the surface of the walls is leveled and all defects and flaws are eliminated. Vinyl wallpapers are considered an excellent choice for the corridor, they are easy to clean and last a long time, resistant to the appearance of fungi and mold.

A good option for the hallway are cork wallpapers, which are made from a thin layer of cork applied to paper.

So that the decoration in the room does not turn out to be monophonic, this material is recommended to be combined with various colored inserts.

The cork surface is easy to clean, does not collect dust and is safe for human health. It is not advisable to use this material for decoration dark rooms because it takes in a lot of light.

Many people prefer to choose plastic or wall panels for the walls of the corridor, they are quickly attached, they are not expensive, but they reduce the space by 2 centimeters. Therefore, liquid wallpapers are considered a good alternative to them, resembling a cross between ordinary canvases and plaster.

Products are presented in wide choice and are produced in the form of a dry mixture, which includes paper, silk and linen flakes.

cover the walls liquid wallpaper it is not difficult, it is enough to dilute the mixture with water according to the instructions, wait for the impregnation and apply the material with a spatula. Their thickness should not exceed 2 mm.

The decorative plaster also looks original in the hallway. Its main advantage is the huge availability of textures and colors. Thanks to this, beautiful paintings and unusual compositions can be laid out on the walls of the room.

The coating is considered durable and is suitable for both apartments and private houses. Such walls are easy to clean if their surface is additionally varnished.

Floor covering

The main requirement for the floor in the hallway is its ease of cleaning, as dirt and dust constantly accumulate in this room. Recently, in the design of corridors, laminate or tiles are used as flooring. If a ceramic surface is chosen, it must be glossy and resistant to chemicals.

As for the colors of the tiles, it is best to acquire dark shades, wear and dirt will not be noticeable on them, light colors, on the contrary, will help make the room wider and more spacious.

Laminate in the hallway should be thick and durable. A practical option for the corridor there will be an adhesive laminate, it is quickly dismantled and amenable to restoration. economical material for the floor in the hallway is linoleum.

The material easily tolerates moisture and pollution, has a long service life and is characterized by high thermal insulation.

Ceiling decoration

Its design depends on the height and overall interior of the room. In the case when the hallway is small, but its ceilings are high, it is recommended to make niches under them and solve the problem of storing things. To do this, the resulting design can simply be painted.

If the corridor is high, then panels, slats or drywall are suitable for decoration. Hinged compositions also look beautiful in miniature passers-by, they do not have joints and allow you to achieve a mirror effect.

In addition, the ceilings in such rooms can be covered with wallpaper. For this, non-woven or vinyl-based canvases are suitable, paper products are not recommended, because they cannot be painted and they will not last long.

The cheapest option for the ceiling in the corridor is the installation of expanded polystyrene plates or painting it. The base for this is carefully prepared, leveled, primed and coated with water-based coloring mixtures.

After all the surfaces in the room have been updated, all that remains is to worry about installing lighting. Chandeliers and sconces should be located in such a way that the light in the hallway is as close to natural as possible. This will depend not only the visual size of the space, but also the overall decor of the room.

Styles

The appearance of the hallway is determined by the style of its design. Lately in modern design minimalism is very popular, in which furniture is characterized by simplicity, lack of luxury elements.

In the decoration of walls and ceilings, complex color palettes are not used; in order to design a corridor in this direction, it is enough to choose two or three shades correctly. For many, such an interior may seem casual and boring, so designers also recommend such styles.

Art Deco

The entrance hall is filled with unusual objects, and its space amazes with the beauty of smooth lines with abstract shapes and transitions. In such a room, the ancient and modern world. Expensive ceramics, polished silver and mahogany are considered the main components of this decor.

The walls are covered with wallpaper in a monochromatic palette, they may contain separate bright details. Often, wallpaper with large compositions is used for decoration.

The floor, as a rule, is decorated with glossy tiles, the doorway is decorated with an arch, and the ceilings are decorated with cornices or stucco. The furniture in the hallway looks unusual and artistic. In the room, lamps decorated with crystal and metal play a huge role. Also in such rooms you can find voluminous figurines of animals and expensive paintings.

Country

Fills the space with notes of nature and rustic beauty. Wall and ceiling finishes are characterized by a rough surface. For walls, panels made of natural wood are most often used; textured plaster and natural stone, the floor is covered with beams from the array.

The furniture is selected in olive and cream colors. The design uses various textiles with flower patterns and ceramic objects.

Classical

The walls are beige and light in color. As a rule, they are covered with plaster or wallpaper for painting. Inserts made of fabrics and wood may be present on the ceiling and walls.

The floor is marbled or laminated. Indoors, the main emphasis is on furniture, it should be symmetrical and regular in shape.

High tech

Ideally smooth surface of walls and a ceiling. In their decoration, both natural and artificial materials. The floor is made self-leveling or with the help of a plain ceramic tiles.

Ceilings are most often found stretch or suspended with spotlights. As for the color design, green, blue, white and gray shades prevail in such passers-by.

How to stylishly renovate?

Many understand the word "repair" wallpapering and buying a new cabinet. For the hallway, this option is not suitable, since it is the main place in the house where relatives and guests meet. Therefore, this room requires a special approach in design. In order for the “visiting card” of housing to truly become stylish and modern, You need to put a lot of effort into its planning, for example:

 • Use unusual inserts and combinations in compositions.
 • Install a plasterboard ceiling or hinged structure of the original form.
 • Attach niches and shelves with backlight. You can use mirrors instead of their back walls, which will help visually expand the area.
 • Decorate the walls with decorative stone. Wooden details and colored plaster also look beautiful on the surface.
 • Complement the room decorative panels, photographs, paintings and fashionable lamps.

In the event that the repair will be done by hand in a very small hallway, first of all, you need to draw up a sketch of the room and choose the right material. For small rooms, as a rule, pastel and light colors are used in decoration. A narrow corridor needs visual expansion, so the lines of its walls should be directed towards the finishing of the ceiling and flooring.

In a square hallway, you can experiment with zoning and apply smooth transitions to living rooms. In a long room it is not recommended to use a lot of furniture, as it will turn out to be a cramped and gloomy space.

Sometimes in the usual layout there are large corridors. They are considered a great option for design. IN two-room apartment instead of interior doors, you can make an original transition from the hallway to the living room with the help of an arch, but in a one-room one you can’t accelerate much, therefore, as an option, original curtains in the form of threads or beads are suitable.

In different types of houses

The technology of repair work directly depends on the construction of the building. Houses built back in the 70s of the last century are characterized by narrow rooms, while the entrance hall in them is miniature. The main disadvantage of old housing is the presence ventilation ducts in the corridor, this can be found in the "Khrushchev" or "Brezhnevka". Therefore, decorating this room for a modern interior, you will have to perform a complete redevelopment and hide all visible flaws.

It will also be necessary to lay good sound and heat insulation, change the wiring in the hallway, and level the walls with plaster. An important point the repair of the corridor will also include the installation of a new floor covering. As for the ceilings, the old stucco elements present on them can not be removed, but simply restored.

IN panel house the entrance hall has undergone certain changes, it has a good finish on the walls and ceiling. Therefore, it is a little easier to carry out repairs here. It is necessary to think over the design of the room, choose the style of the interior and update everything.

For floors in such a corridor, both laminate and decorative tiles. The walls can be covered with wallpaper, but as for the ceiling, in order to hide its defects between the ceilings, it is best to install a hinged structure.

A budget option

In a small hallway, the design of the repair will be inexpensive if you independently create an individual design project and do the finishing yourself. For this, a sketch of the room is initially drawn and all ideas for future work are outlined on it. In addition, you will need to make calculations of the area of the room, taking into account the shape and layout of the corridor.

Economy class repair includes all types of finishing work, but the materials for this are purchased without a stock and at an affordable price.

materials

Often the hallway is the last to be repaired, so Money there is no more left to buy good material. This is wrong, because the financial well-being of the owners of the house will be judged by the appearance of this room. Besides, this room is considered the most demanding for decoration.

Therefore, in order for the hallway to become stylish and comfortable, it is necessary to use the following materials for its design:

 • For walls - decorative putty, wallpaper, microcement, artificial stone. Often their surface is decorated with plastic or MDF panels. If oil paints were applied to the old surface, their residues are removed with a drill and the base is leveled, and then primed. In the hallway for painting, as a rule, acrylic or latex paints are used.

 • For the floor - ceramic tiles, linoleum, laminate.
 • On the ceiling - wallpaper, paint, whitewash, drywall.
 • All finishing products must be wear-resistant, wash well and not get dirty.

Decor

Any renovation should have a beautiful finish. Therefore, the decoration of walls, ceiling and flooring is considered only the basis for the transformation of the hallway, the decor will become the main touch of all these works. To decorate the corridor and eliminate monotony in it, it is recommended to use a relief. There should not be smooth walls in this room. Moldings, cornices and stucco work look unusual in the hallway.

Since dirt regularly accumulates in this room, you should take care of its flooring and choose materials that trap dust. This task can be handled by both ordinary carpet and carpet.

It is advisable to purchase products in dark shades with designer compositions. They will complement the room in a special way and simplify the cleaning process.

Corridors require good lighting, so it is recommended to decorate these rooms with modern models of lamps, which are mounted not on the ceiling, but on the walls. You can make additional light sources near the hanger, above the mirror or in front of the front door. Art objects, panels, ethnic figurines also look good in the hallway. If the area of the room allows, then you can beautifully and originally place fresh flowers in it.

How to arrange?

After repair work come to an end, the main issue will remain the purchase of furniture that will help to comfortably equip the hallway and fill it with homely warmth. It is worth noting that all modules must be selected in advance, before the walls are finished, because you will have to make holes for them or install niches. The main piece of furniture for the corridor is the wall. It should be versatile and stylish. If the room is small, then a small wardrobe, a chest of drawers and a cabinet with a mirror are quite suitable for the decor.

As for open shelves and hangers, this is not the best option for the corridor this species furniture will contribute to the disorder. Therefore, the correct solution would be the installation of closed structures. For example, the closet looks original in the room, it can replace many individual modules and save space. Furniture is desirable to purchase from natural wood, it will not only last a long time, but also give the room an aesthetically attractive look.

The color of the structures should be in harmony with the overall style of the hallway. It is not recommended to place furniture in too bright colors. As a rule, brown, beige and gray are well suited for arranging this room. If desired, wooden modules can be decorated with carvings or cornices, which are a smooth continuation of the walls and floor.

In addition, we must not forget about the mirror, it is hung as a separate element of decor on the wall, and arranged on the cabinet door.

Beautiful ideas in the interior

To date, there are many design tricks, thanks to which even the smallest entrance hall after repair will turn into a chic room. In order to visually expand the boundaries of the room, it is necessary to paste over the walls with light wallpaper. Canvases with small patterns will also give a sense of space, and wallpaper with vertical stripes is well suited for low corridors, they will “stretch” the ceilings.

In the apartment, the entrance hall can be decorated for every taste. For example, cover the walls with beautiful embossed plaster with sparkles. Such a surface in beige and pastel colors will look original. One of the walls can be made lighter, thus expanding the boundaries of the room.

If space permits, then interior doors it is best to replace the arch, it will hide the real boundaries between the rooms and play the role of zoning.

Natural materials such as laminate or tile are well suited as flooring. The color of the floor should not be too dark, but not too bright. As for the ceiling, a hinged structure with various inserts will be the right solution for it. Ceilings with decor under the array look original.

In a private house, as a rule, the size of the hallways is pleasing and opens up wide opportunities for creating a modern interior. For such premises, it is important to properly maintain the color scheme. The corridor can be of one color - blue, green or light brown, but the rest of the design details and surface finishes should stand out in contrast against the general background. To make the room spacious and “homely”, it is supplemented with objects of painting.

Usually, when carrying out repair work at home or in an apartment, it is customary to deal with the corridor last. And there are reasons for that, because the corridor is a walk-through room through which workers walk, building materials and garbage are transferred. If you make repairs at the beginning, then all efforts may come to naught. It is for this reason that you should make repairs in a small corridor when all the other rooms have already been repaired.

Despite the small size of the room, you should not treat repairs irresponsibly and lightly. After all, the corridor is the first thing guests see when they enter your house. No wonder some call it the calling card of the owner. Therefore, you need to make every effort to make your corridor worthy. In this article, we will consider repair work in the corridor, which can be done independently, without the help of specialists. So, you can save your money and try yourself as a worker.

A good plan is the key to success

The corridor is a specific room with its own characteristics, which must be taken into account before starting work. This is especially well understood by those people who live in Khrushchev, as their corridors are too small, narrow and devoid of natural light. If you live in a private house, then in rainy weather splashes can get on the walls, or they can be stained with melted snow. It is in the corridor that all the dirt that you bring from the street will settle.

It should not be overlooked that the corridor is subjected to various temperature changes, as a result of which rot and even mold can form. To avoid these consequences, it is important to take them into account and clearly plan the scope of work and the materials to be used.

What does such planning include? These are the following steps:

 1. Organization of space to visually expand a small corridor.
 2. Wall surface finish. How to carry it out and what can be chosen as a facing material.
 3. Lighting and ceiling repairs.
 4. Floor device.
 5. Selection and installation of furniture.

The range of materials for finishing the corridor is amazing. You can make it whatever you like. But the choice of material is significantly influenced by the layout, the total area of the ceiling, walls and floor, and, of course, your taste. And now for all the details.

How to visually enlarge

If the corridor is small, then nothing can be done (of course, it can be completed if desired, but only in a private house). It can be made more only visually. How to do it? Modern technologies allow you to decorate your walls and ceiling so that the room seems large.

The first way is to install a stretch glossy ceiling. It is able to visually increase the small dimensions of the corridor, thanks to its glossy surface, which will reflect all objects. Since the area of the room is small, there should not be any difficulties in installing such a ceiling.

The second way is to install large mirrors on the walls. This way you can also create the effect of a larger corridor. Sliding wardrobes, the doors of which are equipped with solid glass, are now gaining immense popularity. Due to their design, they are quite compact, since the doors do not open outward, but are able to move apart. Moreover, you can kill two birds with one stone: not only increase the space, but also save the space that a hanger would take up. There you can put your shoes and hang your clothes.

Designers advise using light colors in the design of the corridor. In their opinion, light colors can enlarge a room, while dark ones, on the contrary, can reduce it. Therefore, when choosing a finishing material, consider this fact. Another little trick is lighting. The better it is, the larger the room seems.

All that is required of you is to think over these moments, purchase the appropriate material and bring everything to life.

Wall finishing methods and materials

Your soul can roam in this direction, as there are a lot of options for decorating the walls of the corridor. But before you start working on ennobling the walls, you need to completely get rid of the traces of the previous repair. This includes:

 • peeling off old wallpaper or other facing material from the walls;
 • cleaning the site to the ground;
 • if necessary, plaster problem areas.

Be sure to carry out preparatory work so that the quality of the repair is at a sufficient level. Take a moment to make sure that the wiring is working properly, the insulation is not damaged anywhere and does not need to be replaced. After all, after the repair is completed, it will be problematic to fix the problem, since you will have to remove the new finishing material and all efforts will go down the drain.

When you plan to replace a door, do it in advance. But the preparation of the foundation does not end there. After cleaning, the walls should be puttied, making them even. To avoid the formation of cracks, a reinforcing mesh for interior work can be glued to the wall. Usually it is sunk with a soft grater into the starting putty. To decorative trim looked nice, the walls should be smooth. This is especially important when you plan to hang a mirror on the wall. To do this, apply a leveling mixture to the walls layer by layer, checking everything with a level. Your walls are prepared, now you can deal with the finishing material. Let's look at how you can ennoble the walls.

The name speaks for itself - the material is made of cork. After examining them, you will see paper on which a thin layer of cork is pasted. Such wallpapers have many advantages: they are hypoallergenic, do not collect dust, they are easy to care for and easy to wash. But they have one drawback - they are dark. If your corridor is small, choose a different material. For those homeowners whose corridor is quite spacious and bright, cork wallpapers are perfect. All that is required of you is to purchase wallpaper in rolls, glue and brushes, and paste them yourself.

Many people remember the vinyl records they used in the past. But these days, vinyl is still the same. good material. Vinyl wallpapers have long term operation, they can be washed using a cloth or brush. This fact is very important, because the repair is done in the corridor, where there is the most dirt.

A feature of the material is that they can have a fabric and paper layer, which is coated with PVC. The surface of the wallpaper is decorated with various drawings, ornaments and patterns. You can choose the color scheme according to your taste. Thanks to the PVC layer, the surface of the wallpaper is protected from dirt and moisture penetration. And to prevent the appearance of mold and fungus, a special chemical composition is added to them. One type of vinyl is silkscreen, which will look great on the wall. The downside is the synthetic nature of the material, which is why such wallpapers do not let air through.

Material that is "stuck in development" between plaster and ordinary wallpaper. You can buy both a ready-made mixture and a dry one, which includes silk, paper and linen flakes. Such wallpapers are very easy to apply: the composition is mixed based on the proportions indicated by the manufacturer, and applied to the wall with a thin layer of about 2 mm. This method is good because all the irregularities left after the processing of the walls can be easily hidden. To be able to wash them, the surface should be varnished. If you get tired of finishing, or you start repairs again, then removing such wallpapers is not difficult.

Such walls will look very noble, because such plaster can be applied in various ways. Thanks to this technology, the wall can be decorated with a living landscape, various patterns and even paintings.

If you are an uncreative type of person, even just rough walls will also look quite extraordinary. But it is important to note that the price of the material is rather big. Therefore, calculate all expenses in advance and estimate whether you will have money left. Some mixtures contain stone chips of different colors and shades, which will allow you to fit the corridor into the overall design of the home. The advantage of decorative plaster is practicality, aesthetic appearance and the ability to clean and wash the surface. Minus - it will not be easy to apply the mixture on the wall on your own.

Other types of finishing materials. The materials listed above are far from all that can be used for lining the corridor. For example, walls can simply be painted in the desired color, after having puttied and sanded the walls. Another option is to glue wallpaper for painting so that the wall acquires some texture. In such cases, washable paint is suitable. Separate sections of the walls can be laid with decorative stone. Lining - simple and fast way sheathe the wall. Moreover, all these materials can be combined, connecting several finishes. Show your imagination or just look at the photo at the end of the article. All in your hands.

The device of a reliable, beautiful and warm floor

The weakest point in the corridor is the floor, because it is subject to considerable load. Also, it is the floor that is the dirtiest place in the corridor. Moisture, dirty shoes, objects carried across the corridor - all this leaves garbage. You have to make it versatile, easy to clean and heavy duty.

The best option for finishing the floor can be considered a tile. This material is strong, durable, it is difficult to scratch it, but at the same time, care for them is quite simple. Before carrying out any final finishing work, you need to check the condition of the old flooring. Evaluate it visually, tap on it. If an empty sound is heard, then it will have to be dismantled and a new screed made. But this is even beneficial, because with autonomous heating, you can consider the option of floor insulation. It can be done in the traditional way from the heating system, or use electric floor heating. The second option will be much more expensive.

To properly perform the screed, you need to pour concrete along the beacons. Before installing them, the base should be prepared: eliminate all visible defects, cracks, potholes and chips, filling them. All dirt, dust and debris must also be removed. The surface of the floor should be abundantly covered with a primer. Only then can beacons be set up and the floor filled. Any material can be laid on such a base. Which one? Let's find out.

Linoleum. Economy class material that everyone can afford. But do not judge the coating by the price, although its cost is low, it performs its functions perfectly, coping with various kinds of pollution and moisture. It is very easy to remove dirt from it, and washing the surface is a pleasure, which is very important for the corridor. The presence of various patterns and patterns will only enrich the interior of this small room. But there are also disadvantages, unlike laminate or tile, linoleum is short-lived and easily damaged. Although you can purchase more expensive options that have a fairly dense and thick base. The wear resistance of such linoleum is much higher.

Tile. Ceramic tiles can rightfully be called one of the most practical and reliable materials that are used for flooring. Its durability and resistance to chemical and mechanical influences make the tiles ideal for flooring. Although you will need to put in some effort and fiddling with laying it, you will make a good and durable foundation. You can also choose any color, texture and patterns. When choosing a tile color, keep in mind that a light color can enlarge a small corridor, however, it will have to be washed more often. But dark tones will help hide various pollution that cannot be avoided.

Like all materials, it has its advantages and disadvantages. It is very easy to mount, the main thing is to provide a flat surface. Laminate above class 33-34 is strong, wear-resistant and durable. It is easy to take care of, wash and clean. But, like all wood materials, it absorbs moisture well. Although this is not a big problem, since a laminate has existed for a long time, which included a moisture-proof layer that provides reliable protection against moisture. It should be noted that you cannot achieve silence with such a coating, because, walking on it with heels or other shoes, you will hear all your steps, and not only you, but also others in the next room.

Ceiling decoration

Another important element the corridor is the ceiling. How it will be designed, what work needs to be done, and how to do it, depends on the height of the corridor. For example, if the height allows, niches can be equipped on top for storing various things. And you can make such a ceiling from drywall. This is one of the most simple options finishes, but quite spectacular. The height can be reduced by an average of 150 mm. When you have high ceilings and stock, this is a good option for decorating the ceiling. Its main advantage is that you can make a flat surface, so you do not have to level the base.

And if your room is small, as mentioned earlier, it can be visually enlarged by combining stretch ceiling with drywall. Some go even further and mount mirrors on the ceiling. This is quite original and will completely solve the problem with a small corridor.

When funds do not allow you to realize such ideas, you can decorate the ceiling with ordinary wallpaper, for example, for painting. You can choose any light color that fits well into the overall picture of the apartment or house. The simplest and most inexpensive option for finishing the ceiling can be called polystyrene foam boards. The surface of the ceiling must be leveled and the plates glued to a special glue.

Indoor lighting

Regardless of what material you have chosen for the ceiling, it is important to provide good lighting, as there is practically no natural light in the hallway. To add more light, install sconces, ceiling lights and other lighting fixtures in the hallway. You can use a lower light, thanks to which you visually expand a narrow room. When working on the ceiling, take care of the additional installation of the backlight in advance.

You can also use floor lighting or light paintings, and to make the corridor modern, use mobile lighting. Whatever you choose, remember that your main task is to provide good lighting in a dark corridor. This is especially important when mirrors hang on the walls, in which everyone often looks at themselves before leaving.

Selection and installation of furniture

After your walls and ceiling are decorated, there is already a solid foundation on the floor, and there is a lot of light in the corridor, it's time to start choosing and installing furniture. To logically complete the end of the repair, you need to responsibly approach this issue. Built-in furniture is very popular, thanks to which you can save even more. small space. To install it, even at the stage of repair work, you need to prepare niches in the wall in which furniture will be placed.

Another option is to purchase a ready-made entrance hall. At the same time, you need to take into account that when choosing furniture, you should build on the interior design you have already done. An important factor when buying - compactness, reliability and convenience.

Small hallway with a comfortable bench

In old houses, it is very often necessary to do the repair of the apartment and the hallway with your own hands. This room occupies a very small space, but its importance cannot be underestimated, because it is rightfully the face of the apartment, because guests, when they come to the house, first see it. She can tell everything about any apartment as a whole. That is why you should be very careful about the repair of the hallway. Furniture in the hallway is generally a separate issue. It is catastrophically necessary, but, unfortunately, there is not enough space for it. Also design and styling.

traditional hallway

The main part of the modern housing stock was built back in the Soviet era, which was distinguished by strict socialist minimalism. If this is a kitchen, then only for two, and if it is a hall, then only 3 by 4. It could not be otherwise, because the apartments were built at the rate of 10 square meters per person. So it turned out that for a small hallway there was only a small dark nook near front door. Look at least the old photos of the repair of the hallway with your own hands!

Usually the hallway is small in size, so you should not spend money and invite craftsmen. But, despite its size, this room needs a lot of attention. Even before you start work, you need to think about how its lighting will be. Is it appropriate to hang a small ceiling lamp, or better to install it on the wall. Is it worth it to mount additional lighting near the mirror, and also, what should it be like, or what place should be given to it.

hallway color palette

Starting to repair the hallway with your own hands, you need to proceed from your own preferences when choosing a color, but you can also listen to the recommendations of the masters. Choosing a color for this room, you can visually enlarge it, as well as hide all the flaws. There are such general rule, which says that the lower zone must be dark, the middle must be light, and the top must be completely light.

In order to make repairs to a small hallway with your own hands, you need to develop a new project and determine the scope of work. To achieve a good result, you will have to completely dismantle the built-in furniture, remove the flooring, remove paint, old wallpaper and whitewash.

Next, you need to choose finishing materials. Among the wide variety of tools and building materials for repairs that are offered in specialized stores, sales specialists will help you navigate. The purchase can be made through a network of online stores, this way you will definitely save money.

New furniture must be ordered in advance to match the design project. While it will be made, you will definitely have time to repair it in narrow hallway finish. Next, the old furniture is dismantled and all surfaces are prepared for leveling. You do not need to have special skills for this - only physical strength.

A very important element that you have to work with during repairs is electrical wiring. If there is even a slight doubt about one's own abilities, then it is better to ask relatives and friends, among them there will definitely be a craftsman with "golden" hands who can help.

The next stage is the alignment of the ceiling, walls and floor in accordance with the project. You can also install new flooring yourself. If it doesn’t work out, then you can watch the repair of the hallway with your own hands on the video on specialized sites.
Then the final work on finishing the ceiling and walls is carried out. Next, wallpaper is glued, and painting is done. And in final stage establish the necessary electrical devices- lamps, switches and sockets.

wall decoration

How to decorate the walls in the hallway? There are a lot of ideas for repairing the hallway. First you need to remember that before you start gluing new wallpaper, you need to remove the old one. It may be necessary to change all the wiring, as well as other communications in the walls. If the plan provides for a change of internal and external doors, then it is better to do this immediately. After removing the old cladding, the wall must be leveled. To do this, holes and cracks must be covered and puttyed. So, everything you need is done, and now it's time to choose the wallpaper.

Vinyl wallpapers

Vinyl wallpaper is an excellent washable finish that will last a long time. Dirt can be removed with a special brush or sponge. There is a fabric and paper layer, which is very thinly covered with PVC, and an image is made on top. It is PVC that completely protects the base from various pollution and moisture. Vinyl wallpapers are very often impregnated special means which prevents mold and mildew from growing.

There is also structural vinyl. In another way, it is called foamy. Such wallpapers are embossed and dense. Silkscreen is also vinyl wallpaper to which silk threads are added. They are smooth, embossed and look very similar to silk. These wallpapers are heavy and, if not properly connected, will easily come apart at the seams. If the silkscreen is smooth, uneven walls may be visible.

Vinyl wallpaper is a common synthetic. That's why they don't let air through. Most manufacturers make vinyl wallpaper with micropores. This allows moisture to evaporate and prevent condensation from collecting. There is more cheap option- it is washable paper wallpaper film-coated.

Cork wallpaper

You can also use cork wallpaper with a fairly thin layer of cork applied to the paper. So that the colors of these wallpapers are not too monotonous, all designers dilute the cork with some kind of colored inserts. These surfaces are perfectly washable, do not cause allergies and do not collect dust. They are absolutely not suitable for dark rooms, because they take a lot of light.

To determine the type of wallpaper, you need to watch a video about the repair of the hallway. Many developers prefer wall, plastic panels, because they are perfectly washed and do not deteriorate at all after that. These panels are simply attached, however, the walls are reduced by about 2 centimeters.

Liquid wallpaper

Liquid wallpaper is a cross between stucco and ordinary wallpaper. You can buy a dry mix, or more precisely, a mixture of silk, linen and paper flakes. Next, you need to dilute it with water according to the instructions and leave it for a while so that the flakes are fed. Then apply the material to the walls with a spatula, 2 mm thick.

These wallpapers are good because they perfectly cope with irregularities on the walls and do not form any seams, and are also very easy to clean with a vacuum cleaner. They can be opened with varnish, and then it will be possible to wash them. Another plus or minus - these wallpapers are hard to peel off. For those who like to make repairs every couple of years, they will not work.

Decorative plaster

You can also finish the walls in the hallway with decorative plaster. This option is quite interesting in variety, because you can make whole pictures, patterns and rough walls. Such a coating is perfect for houses where animals live, because the composition of the material contains stone chips, which makes the material strong enough.

The walls will be perfectly washed if the plaster is pre-varnished. The only disadvantage of this coating is that the process of covering the walls itself is very complicated, and you will have to seek help from specialists.

Other finishes

The decoration of the walls with chipboard plates, which are covered with veneer, does not lose its popularity. There are a lot of advantages, and they are known to everyone. Regarding the minuses - it must be recalled that the plates are very long, expensive and difficult to mount. Not suitable for those people who make repairs often, because such a coating will look great even after 4 years and it’s a pity to change it.

If you just want ordinary painted walls, then you should work hard and stick special wallpaper for painting before sticking. This solution will hide the defects of the walls and the texture will appear. With such wallpaper for painting, the hallway will look better than it will be just painted.

hallway floor

First you need to understand what is the floor in the hallway. We enter it in unclean shoes, sometimes wet, and even bring some objects. That is why the floor in such a room must be washed well. In the design of hallways, tiles or laminate are usually used as flooring. Both the first and second coverage, one might say, successful. Options for repairing the hallway for the floor must be considered in advance.

Tile

If you want to make the floor in the hallway of tiles, then you should remember a few nuances. Without fail, the tile must be glossy, this is for easy and convenient cleaning, as well as resistant to various chemicals which can be used.

The color scheme of the tiles is also important. It is better to choose dark colors for the surface, because it is on such a tile that dirt is not noticeable at all and its wear is not visible. It is not recommended to take black, because even a small scratch will be noticeable on it. Tiles very light colors will make the room visually wider and brighter.

PVC floor tiles are very similar in quality to linoleum, however, in appearance they look more like stone or wooden planks. This material is quite durable and can last up to 25 years. This coating is also easy to apply. The size of the plates is different - 30:30 or 50:50 centimeters.

The tile looks quite impressive in the hallway. Thanks to this material, the hallway area can be separated from other rooms. Such floor material is perfect for a fairly wide, but not long hallway.

Linoleum

The most popular flooring material is linoleum, which tolerates dirt and moisture well. It is better to glue it to the floor, but at the same time the base should be just perfectly flat. Foam-based linoleum is less erased, so it lasts longer. It is perfect as a cover for those rooms in which high humidity and pollution.

There are also linoleums on a warm basis. They have a bottom layer of jute or felt materials, on which a polymer layer is then glued. The height of the coating can reach a maximum of 5 millimeters. This floor will last up to 10 years.

Laminate

In the hallway, laminate flooring has many pros and cons. It is necessary to choose only thick panels so that they completely isolate sound. The good thing about this coating is that it has a simple and quick assembly. The panels are fastened firmly enough to the floor.

If you choose this option, and not glue, then moving, you can quickly disassemble it. It is also good that the floor does not need to be varnished and sanded. There are no restrictions in the color scheme and any designer's idea can be brought to life. Moreover, it quite accurately repeats the texture of the tree. There are also downsides. Chipboard and fiberboard panels create a hum.

This means that it is practically impossible to walk quietly on such a floor with your heels, because the sound will be exaggerated by the echo. It is better not to apply wet cleaning to this surface, especially if it is a cheap laminate. Safety and environmental friendliness for health will be a great bonus when buying this material.

Ceiling in the hallway

Ceiling design depends on functional duties and height. If your hallway is small and the ceilings are high enough, then you can solve the problem of storing things by making niches under the ceiling. By painting the middle of the free ceiling with a contrasting color, the aesthetic problem will be solved.

If you have high ceilings, then drywall is perfect, as well as slats and panels. Suspended ceilings are sometimes complemented by some kind of diffused lighting. These ceilings are mounted on the base with the help of suspensions, then the room is reduced by about 15 centimeters.

If the hallway is small in size, the stretch ceiling will look good, because it has no joints. With it, you can make a low and dark hallway the complete opposite, if you use a light canvas with a mirror effect. Any repair of the hallway in the photo can be viewed in the catalog of the master.

Ordinary wallpaper is also suitable for the ceiling in the hallway. You can use paper, but they will last longer, of course, glass, vinyl and non-woven. The color of these wallpapers can be absolutely anything. It all depends on the ideas of the designer and the interior. Wallpaper can be selected for painting and after a while their color can be changed.

The cheapest option is expanded polystyrene plates, they are attached very easily to glue and always look beautiful, but they will not last long. Also the cheapest thing is to paint the ceilings. But do not think that this is the easiest. The ceiling may not be even, and then painting will cause a lot of trouble. True, with an ideal ceiling - this option is really the easiest.

The ceiling for painting is prepared in several stages. The first is that it is primed, and then plaster is used. If it is very uneven, then a reinforcing plaster mesh is used. After gluing it, leveling is carried out, and then primed again. An ordinary ceiling without depressions and tubercles can be painted immediately. It is best to use water-based paint.

hallway lighting

Based on the fact that it is the entrance hall that is deprived of a source of natural light, then, by installing artificial light, it is necessary to compensate for this deficiency. Sconces, chandeliers and other lighting devices that will be located in the hallway should give light very close to natural. Lower light can visually expand any walls in narrow hallways. It allows, as it were, to slightly blur the real dimensions of this room.

An individual and complete interior will help to create not only light paintings, false aquariums, floor lighting of walls, but also illuminated plants. Stylish and modern interior will make repairs to a small hallway, if the lighting is made varied and mobile.

Furniture in the hallway

The choice of furniture, as well as its arrangement, occupies a very important place in the design of the hallway. With the location, and most importantly, the size of the furniture, you must decide in advance before the work on the walls begins. The plans may include built-in furniture, then for this it is necessary to mount special niches that will be needed when installing such furniture.

It is much easier to make holes for already purchased furniture than to pick it up for an already finished repair. When choosing furniture for the hallway, you must first of all start from its size, because repairing the hallway in an apartment is a painstaking task. Usually the hallways are small, so the furniture there should not be superfluous.

It must be practical and functional. It is quite enough to put a cabinet with a mirror and a chest of drawers, but if the area allows, then the interior of the hallway can be supplemented with an umbrella and a magazine rack. The highlight will be the key holder.

Hangers and open shelves are not the most advantageous option for this room, as they contribute to disorder in this part of the apartment, so only closed furniture should be installed. If the ceiling height in this room allows, then you can even mount a wardrobe, which can definitely replace all of the above furniture.

Since little furniture is needed to repair a small-sized hallway, it is better to focus on quality, because it is on it that attention is drawn. Choosing good quality furniture, you will definitely be insured that the money you spent on it will definitely not be thrown to the wind, and it will please the eye for a very long time.

You can simplify your task a little and buy furniture to order, which will be made specifically for the project for your hallway, based on some of its features and, of course, your wishes. Making repairs to the hallway with your own hands and arranging the furniture correctly is easy enough, for this you just need to use knowledge, a little imagination, and your hallway will attract the eyes of all guests.

Many people have a question, how to make repairs in the hallway? Very simple! And now you know what the process of repairing and selecting furniture for a hallway in an apartment, country or private house is. Remember that any place in the house should have good lighting and, of course, be kept clean. The easiest way to comply with such conditions is by adhering to the "minimalist" style in interior design. It is very important not to clutter the hallway with bulky items, leave space for mobility, and, if possible, provide natural light.

The entrance hall and the corridor can be called the “face of the apartment”, since it is they who form the first impression of the homeowners, of their tastes and well-being. Therefore, the design of these premises should be thought out carefully, to the smallest detail.

Finishing the corridor in the apartment is usually done last, since dirt and debris during the repair of other rooms will remain all the way from the front door to the rooms where the work is being done. In addition, when building materials or large pieces of furniture are brought in, they can easily damage the finish on the walls and floors of the hallway. That is why the facing of these surfaces is performed last.

What should be considered when planning the finishing of the corridor?

Hallways in standard city apartments usually have very small area no source of natural light. Dust and dirt from the street are primarily brought into these walk-through rooms, as they are often walked in street shoes.

In addition, you should also think about the fact that during the operation of the apartment, various pieces of furniture and large Appliances, which during transportation it is quite possible to damage the surface of the walls. Therefore, for finishing it is recommended to choose materials that have a certain strength.

Another important point that cannot be ignored when planning the repair of these premises - despite their small area, Finishing work can result in a decent amount if they are produced by a construction team. Therefore, having realistically assessed your strengths and financial capabilities, you can try to produce this stage on your own, choosing an affordable method and materials that are suitable in quality and price.

In order for the work to be successful, they should be carried out according to a pre-drawn plan, which should provide for the entire sequence of actions.

Work plan

The stages of repair work for any of the rooms of the apartment practically do not differ in their sequence, but they will differ in scale, depending on what type of repair is chosen: major or cosmetic.

 • Overhaul provides for the complete dismantling of coatings of all surfaces with replacement electrical wiring, arrangement of a new floor screed and plaster leveling layer on the walls. In addition, the total scope of work may include the installation of a false ceiling.

 • Cosmetic repairs include the replacement of decorative wall and floor coverings, and sometimes the installation of a false ceiling. If ceiling work is to be carried out, then it may be necessary to make additional wiring for electrical cables for lighting fixtures that are built into suspended ceiling.

So, the whole process of repair work is usually planned in the following sequence:

 • For any type of repair - this is the dismantling of old decorative coatings and cleaning of surfaces, the removal of all previously performed leveling layers - during the major reconstruction of the premises.

 • Carrying out the necessary calculations of the finishing area and the amount of materials required for it.
 • Determining the location of lighting fixtures and wiring. Its connection to the mains is made already at the final stage of repair. Works related to electricity are recommended to be entrusted to a professional master who has the appropriate permit.

 • Space planning, that is, determining the placement of furniture items necessary in the hallway, depending on the size and shape of the room. If it is possible to plan the premises using a special computer application, then this will be the best option, which will allow you to visually evaluate the color combination and the convenience of the proposed arrangement of all interior accessories.

 • Finishing the ceiling, the chosen method and material - for any type of repair work.
 • Alignment of walls, and then cladding decorative material at overhaul, or only finishing work for the cosmetic transformation of the room.
 • Leveling the floor with a screed, and then laying the floor covering, possibly with a heating system - with a complete alteration of the rooms, or just replacing the decorative flooring during cosmetic repairs.

Types of hallways

The lighting and design solution for the design of the hallway largely depends on the type of hallway and corridor. With a standard layout, these rooms can be combined and have the following forms:

 • A "box" is a square or rectangular room that provides ample room for imagination and can be decorated in any style. Such hallways are typical for houses of old construction and have an area of 4 square meters. m.

 • The hallway-corridor is a narrow elongated rectangular room, sometimes having smooth turns under different angles, in which it is quite difficult to place a lot of furniture. Therefore, you will have to choose only the most necessary for her - it can be a shelf for shoes, an ottoman, a hanger for outerwear, and of course a mirror, without which you can’t do without in the hallway.
 • Entrance hall - "boot" - this type of room also combines in its configuration two corridors located at right angles to each other. In one of them there are doors to the sanitary premises of the apartment, and it leads towards the kitchen, and in the other, in fact, there is an entrance hall with doors to the entrance and to the living quarters of the apartment. As a rule, these two corridors have a small width, but a sufficiently large length along which all the necessary furniture accessories can be installed.

What will be subject to reconstruction and decoration?

Hallway lighting and ceiling

After the walls are cleaned of old coatings, it is worth thinking about how to properly distribute the lighting fixtures in the dark hallway and corridor, since intense lighting is necessary for them. This factor is due to the fact that, as a rule, people do the final touches on putting their appearance in order when leaving the house in the hallway in front of the mirror. For this, it is necessary to provide that there is enough light in this room, and it is desirable to organize shadowless lighting.

If it is dark in a small room, then it will visually seem even cramped. To avoid this effect, it is recommended to make the ceiling light and install lamps on it that give a bright but diffused light.

If the ceiling is planned for painting, then the best option for this would be acrylic paint. However, this option will be advantageous only if the surface has perfect evenness and smoothness, otherwise bright lighting will reveal all the existing flaws.

IN last years plasterboard suspended ceilings have become popular, having one or more tiers, forming niches in which neon or led strip or the same lamp is installed. Most often, tiers are given intricate curvilinear shapes that visually expand the space, making the room look wider. In addition, a similar version of the ceiling will help to more intensively illuminate certain areas of the room, in particular the one where the mirror will be fixed.

If the apartment does not have too high ceilings, then you can use a glossy light stretch ceiling for their design. On its surface, light from devices mounted on the walls will be reflected, increasing the overall intensity of illumination. In this case, it is desirable to direct the light from the wall sconces onto a glossy surface.

Original interior solution - two-tier ceiling

If the owner of the apartment has good skills in working with building and finishing materials, he will be able to cope with this task on his own. To help him - a detailed publication of our portal

To obtain even bright light, it is desirable to use modern economical LED lamps, which today can be found in a large assortment in specialized stores. Such lamps, with a small power consumption, create an excellent level of illumination. Many of them are specially designed for embedding in drywall construction - they look like neat dots, which is why they are called dotted. In luminaires that turn towards the ceiling, lamps are installed that are equivalent in terms of luminous efficiency of 50 ÷ 60 W. If the sconces will be installed on the walls of a narrow hallway, it is recommended to choose flat models that do not protrude too much from the wall, otherwise they will visually make the room more cramped.

If the ceiling and upper part make the walls light, this factor will enhance the overall illumination and help save on electricity consumption, as the effects of reflection of the light flux from surfaces are actively “turned on”.

If the ceiling in the hallway is not too high, then you should not use low-lowered lamps or chandeliers for lighting, as they will visually make the room even lower.

If you have the financial capacity, you can install a stained-glass suspended ceiling in the corridor, illuminated from the inside. But it should be remembered that in these conditions it is not worth choosing a pattern with a dark colors, and to organize the backlight it is better to use lamps with a cold glow.

In addition to the ceiling surface, recessed fixtures are sometimes installed in walls if they are sheathed with plasterboard, which is fixed on a metal profile frame, or placed in niches.

Hallway flooring

The corridor and the entrance hall are the premises with the highest intensity of movement of the residents of the apartment. In addition, we must not forget about the dirt and dust brought on the shoes, which may contain grains of sand that can damage some coatings with their abrasive action. Therefore, for flooring in these rooms, you need to choose a material that has increased strength.

most popular floor coverings used in apartments are materials such as linoleum, ceramic tiles and laminate. Less often you can find parquet or solid board. Each of the coatings has its own characteristics, which you need to know about in order to choose the best option.

Ceramic tile

The range of this material in hardware stores is quite wide, but not every type of tile is suitable for the hallway.

It is impossible to purchase tiles intended for wall cladding for laying on the floor, since there are completely different indicators of strength and wear resistance.

For laying near the front door, you should not choose a tile with an absolutely smooth glossy surface, since if you step on it in wet shoes, you can easily slip and get a serious injury. Especially this factor must be taken into account if the family has small children or people of respectable age. If you plan to lay this particular material, then the best option would be to choose a tile with a rough surface - this is usually indicated on the packaging of the material.

In addition, we must not forget that ceramics is a “cold” type of flooring and it is best to mount it on a pre-laid system. For apartment conditions, an electric heating option with a cable or special mats is suitable. These systems are safe to operate and consume a minimum amount of electricity.

The advantages of tiles include ease of maintenance, durability and long service life. However, this material is quite difficult to install, and if there is no relevant experience in this area, then you will have to invite the master, and this is also an extra cost.

Tiles can be combined with other floor coverings such as linoleum, laminate or even carpet. Thus, it is possible to divide the hallway into zones. One of the common options is that ceramic tiles are laid near the door, and the rest of the hallway and corridor are lined with other material. Such a decision will make these rooms less boring, especially if the design of the material is chosen with taste.

Laminate

Linoleum

Linoleum is a traditional flooring material for flooring in all rooms of the apartment, including the hallway, and it can be called time-tested for its practicality. If earlier this type of coating did not differ in variety in terms of base and colors, today its range pleases consumers, as it provides an opportunity to choose according to such criteria as the material of manufacture, the degree of wear resistance, pattern, thickness, colors and, of course, price.

If financial opportunities allow, then you can purchase a natural-based laminate.

It meets all the requirements for its operation in walk-through rooms - these criteria include environmental friendliness, moisture resistance and strength, high resistance to mechanical damage, low thermal conductivity, ease of maintenance and durability. The disadvantage of any natural material is its high price.

Artificial linoleum is made on the basis of polymer raw materials and has more diverse colors and patterns than natural, as well as quite affordable cost. The service life of this coating may vary, depending on the quality of the material, but in general its operational period is quite long, and is at least 15 years under normal conditions. temperature conditions. The disadvantages of artificial canvases include instability to solvents and sudden changes in temperature.

Decorative plaster

This type of finish is more complex in execution, but, despite this, it is becoming more and more popular, as it perfectly transforms the walls and hides small flaws on it. Varieties decorative plasters- quite a lot, but they all have high strength and abrasion resistance, good moisture resistance.

Decorative plaster - a stylish interior decoration!

It is simply impossible to tell in one section about all types of this finish. You can get acquainted in detail not only with the description of different types, but also with the processes of preparing surfaces and applying finishes to the wall in a separate article of the portal.

The technology of finishing the walls of the corridor "under the stone"

In combination with plastered sections of the wall, laying tiles that imitate natural stone are often used, and more and more apartment owners are interested in this way of decorating the walls of the hallway. Therefore, two different technologies for finishing walls “under the stone” will be considered below. Perhaps the description of these works will inspire someone to independent creative process and help you save a lot of money.

Indeed, a properly selected stone texture and color scheme of this facing material can ennoble the interior of the premises and give it individuality. However, it should be noted that if the hallway has a very small area, then you should not stick stones on all the walls. It will be enough to cover only the area around the front door with stone, and it is desirable that the material had one of the light color shades.

Below, two available technologies for such a corridor finish will be considered step by step.

Laying tiles imitating natural stone

First of all, ready-made facing stone can be purchased at a hardware store. In this case, the work is carried out in the following order:

Illustration
In order for the tile to hold securely on the wall, it is necessary to make a series of preparatory work, which begin with cleaning the walls of old coatings.
It should be remembered that it is impossible to glue tiles on wallpaper, even if they are securely attached to the wall, since the canvases will not be able to hold heavier finishing material.
However, if you plan to lay on separate parts of the wall, you will have to develop a design project in advance, determining the location of the tiles. Then, having made measurements of the tiles, transfer them to the wall area to be lined, marking the edges of the future finish with a simple pencil. After that, you should carefully remove the wallpaper only from these parts of the wall. Thus, it will be possible to combine two finishing materials.
If you plan to cover the entire wall with finishing material, the wallpaper must be completely removed. In addition, old, peeling plaster is cleaned from the walls, as well as oil paint, if it has been previously applied.
The next step is to prime the cleaned surfaces with a solution that includes antiseptic substances.
The primer will help protect the walls from mold and other negative manifestations, and will also create high adhesion for the next finishing layers.
If you plan to combine masonry with a painted wall, then its surface must be well puttied. Moreover, this work must be done as efficiently as possible so that there are no stains from the spatula and so-called sinks on the surface.
It should be noted that this process requires some skill, therefore, if there is no experience in such work, then it is better to entrust the alignment of the walls to an experienced plasterer.
Puttied and dried walls are carefully polished to smoothness with a construction grater, on which an abrasive mesh is first installed, and then fine-grained sandpaper.
After grinding, the surface is again covered with a layer of primer applied with a roller with a fleecy nozzle. The water-based primer dries in about two hours.
Next, the process of painting the wall follows.
Usually for this purpose water-based or dispersion paints, in which the color of the desired color is added. They are also applied by roller.
This type of paint will not interfere with fixing stone tiles on top of it, but if you want to get even more confidence in reliable fixation finishing material, then the wall should be marked and covered with its sections, on which it is planned to install tiles, with a primer.
While the paint or primer is drying, it is worthwhile to start selecting tiles.
To do this, it is unpacked and laid out along the wall, which will be lined.
Since the “wild stone” tile has dark blotches, which are located differently on different specimens, it is necessary to try to decompose the fragments in such a way that the areas painted in a darker color are evenly distributed in the masonry.
It is easier to finish if the entire wall is masonry, but if it is located in separate sections, usually these are the areas around doorways and corners, then work must begin with them, from the floor plinth.
However, before installing the first row, it would be useful to check the horizontalness of the plinth using the building level.
If it turns out that it is not ideal, then you should measure the height of the tile and beat off the line along the upper side of the future row with a masking cord. It is on it that the first row of masonry will be displayed.
At the same time, it may be necessary to make temporary linings from plastic plates or wooden slats from below under the tiles in some places.
If the plinth has not yet been installed, then it is recommended to mark out the level, install and fix the support rail or starting profile, on which the first row of tiles will be mounted.
Some tiles made of gypsum may have irregularities on their edges that form during casting - these flaws must be cleaned, otherwise they will interfere with the smooth fixing of the elements to the wall.
To do this, use a sharp knife and sandpaper with a large grain, fixed on a piece of timber, or an abrasive bar.
If there is an external corner in the corridor, which will be decorated with artificial stone, then work should begin with it, and it is best to use special corner elements for this.
Before fixing the corner tiles with glue, it is recommended that they first be carefully tried on.
Next, according to the instructions on the package, the tile adhesive is kneaded.
Moreover, if the tile is made of gypsum, then the adhesive composition should also be chosen on a gypsum basis, and if the facing material is made of cement-sand mortar, then the adhesive is also used on a cement basis.
At the same time, to simplify the work, especially when installing tiles on a wall painted in light shades, it is better to choose tile adhesive in white.
Some craftsmen prefer to fix the elements of this cladding with liquid nails, and this can be done under certain conditions. For example, if the tile is gypsum and has a small thickness and weight, and the room in which it will be installed has normal humidity.
However, in any case, professionals recommend using tile adhesive, since it is cheaper, and such a composition, if it is of high quality, will fix the tile on the wall more securely.
At installation work tiles will need to be cut.
Gypsum tiles are easy to use with an ordinary hacksaw, while for cement tiles you will have to use a grinder with a stone disc.
If it is planned to produce “torn” masonry, and the tile has smooth edges, then it will have to be broken.
To get a long protruding element, the tile is first filed, and then the extra parts are broken out by grabbing them with pliers.
To obtain an arbitrarily uneven edge, it is simply broken off with the same tool.
However, it should be noted that these manipulations can only be performed with thin gypsum tiles.
So, masonry starts from a corner or doorway.
The glue is applied to the surface of the wall and the tile itself in a thin layer, since when they are bonded, it should only slightly protrude along the edges.
Moreover, this excess must be immediately removed with a spatula.
The tile is applied to the wall and pressed well, glue is removed from its edges, and then it is tapped to the wall with a rubber mallet.
The installation of the second and all subsequent rows is carried out according to the principle of brickwork, that is, the vertical seams must be displaced by at least ⅓ of the length of the tile.
Each of the stacked rows is verified according to the building level, since the tile can go skewed by only a few millimeters, which will gradually grow into centimeters, and the work will eventually be ruined.
Another nuance that often causes inconvenience if ordinary tiles are used to decorate the corner, and not corner elements, is the mismatch of their edges, since it is often quite difficult to find perfectly right corners in apartments.
Therefore, before applying the adhesive mass to the surface, it is necessary to try on two tiles to the corner, and if they do not match, mark and then saw off the protruding excess part.
Since this version of the finishing material has a certain volume, the masonry from it will perfectly hide the small irregularities of the corner.
Another difficult design area is the arch.
But if gypsum material is used for decoration, then this problem is solved quite easily, again due to the ease of processing such tiles.
Since the arch can have a different radius of curvature, which is difficult to calculate in advance, it is easiest to cut the tiles down at the place of its laying.
To do this, the tile is applied to the place where it will later be fixed with glue, and the edge of the arch is outlined on it with a pencil. According to this mark, a cut is made with a hacksaw with fine teeth.
In order not to be mistaken with the place where the element is fixed, it is best to circle it additionally on the wall by lightly pressing the pencil.
Since the gypsum tile does not have flexibility, it will be difficult to fix it on the arch opening area. The gap that forms between the wall and the tile must be completely filled with adhesive mass.
If “liquid nails” are used for fixing, then the glue is applied to the upper and lower parts of the tile, and after it dries, only the side clearance is filled with it.
Thus, the entire arch is framed.
Further, after the glue dries, in order to mask the corner joints of the masonry, a paint composition should be sprayed onto it. For this purpose, a conventional spray gun is suitable.
If this device is not available, then you can cover the stones with a liquid paint solution using a soft brush.
In any case, it is necessary to ensure that there are no streaks on the surface, therefore it is recommended to have a sponge on hand, with which they must be removed immediately.
The end edges of the stone are carefully painted over with a narrow soft brush designed for watercolor work.
The work must be carried out carefully, trying not to touch the surface of the wall.
If part of the paint nevertheless got on the surface of the wall, it must be removed with a damp sponge, and if necessary, touch up certain areas of the surface.
When the paint is completely dry, the masonry is covered with a water-based varnish. It has no unpleasant odor and dries quickly enough.
The varnish is applied with a wide soft brush, since the composition should cover all recessed areas of the masonry.
It is best to choose a matte varnish for the coating, as the gloss can spoil the whole look, because the "stone" will look unnatural.

Imitation of masonry in papier-mâché technique

Another option for decorating the walls of the hallway and corridor can be a finish that will not bring high costs, but will require a lot of patience and strength, as well as creativity. In this case, the cladding is done using the familiar papier-mâché technique. In the example brought to your attention, the master designed not only the hallway and kitchen, but also his office.

Next, it will be considered how to make material for manufacturing, how to apply it to the walls, and also paint it in the desired shades. Moreover, it should be noted that the shape of the stones in imitation of masonry can be for every taste of the master, and the color scheme is also selected for the intended style of the interior.

The shape and color of future “stones” are all the prerogative of the creative master

Step-by-step instructions for self-performing such a finish are in the table below:

IllustrationBrief description of the operation to be performed
In order to perform lining in this technique, you will need ordinary paper egg trays, CMC wallpaper glue, a mosquito net measuring 1000 × 1000 mm or a mesh bag with small cells, designed, for example, for storing onions.
In addition, it is necessary to prepare washing powder for hand washing, as it gives more foam, enamel white and colored paint, soft brushes 150 and 10 mm wide (you will need several of them), electric drill with mixer attachment, plastic basin and bucket.
In this case, the manufacture of a paper-glue mixture from ten egg trays will be demonstrated. This amount should be enough to cover an area on the wall with a size of approximately 550 × 550 mm.
The production of the working mass is best done in the bathroom, as the work requires a large number water.
In order not to clog the drain in the bath, it is best to protect it with a regular mesh, which is installed in the sink in the kitchen.
Trays are treated differently: some masters knead them or cut them into small pieces, others simply immerse them in very hot water.
So, for soaking ten trays, 6 ÷ 7 liters will be required. hot water, to which 50 grams of washing powder should be added.
The trays are immersed in boiling water one by one, so that their cells do not overlap, and left to soak for half an hour.
Then, taking a drill with a mixer attachment, mix and knead the resulting mass with its help.
Further, the soaked paper is kept in water for at least another two hours, since the mixture should turn out to be almost homogeneous, and also without odors characteristic of tray cardboard.
Washing powder will not only remove unpleasant odors, but will also contribute to a faster and better softening of the paper.
Two hours later, the mass is crushed and mixed with a mixer installed in an electric drill. Simultaneously with mixing, a kind of “washing” of the resulting mass is also carried out.
Next, the resulting "porridge" of paper must be rinsed.
To do this, a cut is installed in a plastic bucket mosquito net. It must be well laid out at the bottom of the bucket, and then fasten its edges to the bucket with ordinary clothespins.
Then, about 1 kg of paper pulp is laid out in the container prepared in this way.
After that, the mesh rises up and twists in the upper part, then the resulting "bag" is taken out of the bucket, placed on a lattice stand in the bath.
Further, a mug is pressed onto the grid with the working mass, squeezing out excess liquid from it.
The squeezed mass, without freeing it from the mesh, must be washed from the powder with running water from the shower. The mass must be turned over and squeezed by hand until clean water flows from it.
Rinsing is carried out first with cold and then with warm water, after which the mass is wrung out, like ordinary underwear.
The rinsed and wrung out paper is poured into a clean container, as it should be dry and crumble easily.
The same work can be done with a mechanical washing machine in which the centrifuge is installed separately from the washing tub.
A mesh bag is installed in the centrifuge, paper soaked in soapy water is placed in it, then the bag is twisted and tied at the top.
Then the centrifuge lid is closed, the device is turned on, and the mass is squeezed out.
After spinning, the mixture is rinsed. To do this, water from the shower is poured into the centrifuge, and then moisture is again squeezed out of the mass.
If an automatic machine is installed in the apartment, then it’s not worth the risk, since it has a different spinning principle, and the paper can clog the filters of the device. Therefore, it is best to do the work manually.
The next step is to add one liter of diluted CMC glue to the pulp made from ten trays.
When mixing, add a little more to the mixture clean water, and if the mass is not plastic enough, then also about 0.5 liters of glue.
It is most convenient to mix the paper-glue mixture with the help of a mixer nozzle installed in an electric drill.
As a result of mixing, a homogeneous, plastic, pleasant-to-work mixture with high adhesion to any surface should be obtained.
Cladding work begins from the top of the wall from the ceiling.
The mass is thrown and leveled on ceiling plinth or the junction of wall and ceiling. In this area, the mass should adhere tightly to the surface - it is pressed with fingers, at the same time forming the first seam between the "stones".
The advantage of this finishing material is that the paper-adhesive mass, unlike other solutions, does not leave marks on any material located next to the surface to be coated.
In this case, an example of the formation of a relief from a mass made from 10 trays is presented.
The mass is applied to the wall by sketching or simply by applying the collected lump by hand with the necessary effort.
Having sketched a small amount of material, it is pressed against the surface of the wall with the palm of your hand.
The mixture does not leave dirty marks on the hands and easily adheres to any wall covering - it can be tile, wood, whitewash, concrete, drywall, brickwork and other materials.
After the mass has been applied to the wall, it is pressed firmly against the surface with the hands, while creating approximately the same layer thickness.
The facing material does not require ideal leveling, since natural stones almost always have an uneven surface, except for pebbles polished with water.
On a leveled wet layer, the formation of a “stonework” relief begins.
To do this, recesses are made in the mass with hands, which will become the seams between the imitated "stones".
At the same time, the shape of the "stones" themselves is created.
The master recommends, when creating a relief, to alternate small and large "stones", giving them various shapes. They should not be laid correctly, with even seams between them, it is better if the artificial stones created in this technique are randomly located.
When forming the “masonry” elements, when pressing the mass with a hand, for example, when creating a seam, the mixture on the other side rises, forming a tubercle. It must be pressed, while distributing it to the mass located nearby.
The mass in the seam between the "stones" should be well pressed against the wall, and in order not to use additional tools, the width of the seam can be determined by the thickness of the finger with which it is formed.
When forming "stones", it is necessary to ensure that their middle part is not strongly pressed inward, that is, their edges should be below the middle. Otherwise, after drying, the “stones” will become like saucers, and this circumstance will surely give out their artificial origin, and the masonry itself will not look very aesthetically pleasing.
In addition, do not leave the edges of the stones sharp, which can also ruin appearance relief - they are gently smoothed, leading to the seam.
It must also always be remembered that if large and small “stones” are included in the manufacture of a three-dimensional pattern on the wall, then the paper-glue mass will be spent rationally, economically, which will allow one batch to decorate a larger wall area.
The relief of the "stones" can act on different height from the wall - this will give the masonry more naturalness, that is, they do not need to be especially compared and smoothed.
If the design of the wall is intended artificial stones imitating pebbles, then a little more glue should be added to the mass. It will make the material more plastic and easy to smooth.
When the work on creating the relief is completed, the wall lined with this technique must be properly dried, otherwise cracks may form on it, or the layer will separate from the surface.
To prevent this from happening, drying should be carried out in natural conditions, that is, there should not be a draft in the room or turned on heaters aimed at finishing.
If at the end of the work there is an excess paper-glue mass left, it must be stored in an open form, otherwise it will acquire an unpleasant musty smell. If, nevertheless, this happened, then the mass will have to be stretched again, squeezed out and then can be used again in work.
If moisture has evaporated from the mixture, then before use, water should be added to it, soaked and mixed well.
When the created relief on the wall is completely dry, it is necessary to check it for cracks and flaking.
If cracks are found, they should be repaired with the same paper-glue mixture, and while it dries, you can do color markings.
In this case, the master first determines the color of each of the “stones” with colored dots.
This method simplifies the work, since paint of the same color is first taken and it is applied to the marked “stones” throughout the entire facing layer.
For coloring, it is best to use alkyd matte enamel or oil paint, which is applied to the "stones" in two layers.
Then stones of a different color are painted, and so on until the entire surface is covered with a layer of paint.
The paint is applied to the entire relief of the "stone" to the seam.
Sometimes, to give naturalness to painting one “stone”, several shades are used, which gives the masonry elements a deeper volume.
As for staining, we can say that this process can be done in different ways, depending on the goal and the style solution of the interior. It all depends on the artistic taste of the master.
The paint is applied to the seam in such a way that it does not find the “stone” on the protruding relief. It should not stand out in the foreground, since the task of designing the seams is to give the finish neatness, that is, they should only be the background for the main elements.
In this case, the result of work is presented in the selected green-brown-beige range, with seams made in blue shades.
However, each master chooses his own color option, which is more suitable for his vision of the created interior.
Properly lined wall, covered with enamel or oil paint, easy to clean with soapy water and a stiff brush.
Based on this, we can conclude that the finish is moisture resistant and can be used for any of the rooms, including the bathroom. An exception is the area where the bathtub meets the wall - it is recommended to lay one horizontal row of ceramic tiles there, matching in color with the future "masonry".
It can also be noted that the mass made from cardboard of egg trays has low heat and sound conductivity, so a wall finished with this material will dampen noise from the outside, and will also become warmer, unlike brick or concrete.

So, available ways and necessary materials for finishing the corridor - quite a lot. The main thing is to start for yourself to decide what you would like to get as a result of the repair. The second step is to determine the amount that it is possible to allocate for repairs in this room, and then look for options that are suitable in all respects.

And in order to spur the imagination of an interested reader, below is a video in which many very interesting options for finishing the corridor and hallway are presented.
