The roof for the gazebo is shed with your own hands. Arbor made of polycarbonate, attached to the house. Preparatory work and frame creation

In the warm season, being in the country, all people spend most of their time outdoors. Someone works in the garden and garden, someone has fun with friends, someone sunbathes, and someone eats. But if you urgently need to hide from the midday heat or unexpected rain, then you need a gazebo. With proper design and construction, it will become a wonderful recreation area. In the article we will consider options for making a gazebo with pitched roof with our own hands, we will demonstrate the drawings, as well as show photo and video instructions for its installation.

Among the advantages of a shed roof are:

  • Ease of creating a project.
  • Relatively easy installation.
  • Timber consumption is reduced in comparison with the construction of gazebos with gable roofs.
  • Properly designing the slope with respect to the prevailing wind direction ensures resistance to constant winds.
  • The construction process takes relatively little time.

Before starting the construction of the gazebo, several important factors should be determined that play decisive role in the workflow. The following subsections will describe the differences between gazebos.

Pavilions are closed, semi-closed and open.

  • Closed structures are completely protected from snow, wind and rain. Usually the walls of gazebos are made of double-glazed windows. Such gazebos can be used regardless of the season.
  • semi-open partially prevent precipitation from entering the building.
  • open- these are, in fact, canopies that are used for temporary location, protection from the midday heat and light rain.

You can build a gazebo with a shed roof from different materials:

  • From wood. This material is one of the most common.
  • From metal. Since the advent profile pipes metal gazebos began to push back their wooden counterparts. Portable welding equipment can be used to assemble metal structures. Also, intricate forged arbors have recently become popular.
  • From stone. Such arbors are built from sibit, cinder blocks and bricks.

There is a combined type of arbors, where they are used different materials such as wood and metal, stone and metal, or stone and wood.

The project should be created taking into account the fact that the gazebo will be built near the house. Also, before making a project, you should think about the purpose of the structure. Will it have a fireplace, stove or barbecue. It is also important to determine the load on the structure in order to select the section of the bracing beams accordingly.

Determine the purpose of the gazebo:

  • For hanging out with friends.
  • For children's games.
  • As an office.
  • For family meals.
  • For storage of garden tools.

All these nuances are important to consider when designing a structure. At the end of this article, ready-made drawings will be provided, which may help you in creating an individual project.

A gazebo with a shed roof of a rectangular or square shape has no structural difficulties. The angle of the roof is determined based on several factors:

  • wind power;
  • roofing material;
  • rainfall in your area.

The angle of inclination of the roof varies between 5–60 º. So, when building a shed roof of a gazebo, one should take into account the indicators of the minimum slope in accordance with the material:

  • metal tile - 30º;
  • slate - in the range of 20–35º;
  • corrugated board - 8º;
  • roofing material - 5º;
  • seam roofs - in the range of 18–30º.

If you reduce the minimum angle of inclination of the roof, then it is likely that the structure will not withstand the loads. For example, a single-pitched corrugated/galvanized roof can sag under the weight of snow.

Shed roof should be built on the basis of an inclined truss system made from wooden beams. At the same time, all wooden elements must first be dried, and also treated with means of protection against fire, water and pests.

If you have decided on the parameters, material for construction and the internal content of the gazebo, then it's time to start building. Consider the entire construction process using the example of a semi-open gazebo with a pitched roof. For work you will need:

  • cement and sand;
  • edged board;
  • ruberoid;
  • nails;
  • beam for support;
  • roofing material;
  • impregnation, paint / varnish.

First you need to choose a place for the building, clean it from unnecessary items and debris. Then, on the ground, the gazebo should be marked in accordance with given dimensions indicated in the project.

Install pegs in the corners and along the perimeter of the future walls of the gazebo and pull the rope.

The pillars will serve as the foundation. To do this, dig the pits, which should be slightly wider than the pillars with a depth of 0.5–0.7 m. Make a ten-centimeter pillow at the bottom of the pit from compacted sand and gravel. Level the posts, fix them, and then fill them with concrete. Previously, the beam is treated with an antiseptic, and the part that will be immersed in concrete must be wrapped with roofing material.

On one side of the gazebo, the supporting pillars should be lower, so that it will be possible to form a slope of a pitched roof. Next, you need to perform the upper strapping of the supporting pillars. Then you need to install the transverse beams on which the crate will be fixed.

The step of the crate depends on the roofing material you choose. For example, if it is a metal tile, then the crate pitch should be 40–50 cm. After that, you will need to install the roofing material.

A decorative lattice can serve as walls, the decoration of which can be climbing plants. Another option is to install railings around the perimeter of the gazebo, which are fixed to the supporting pillars.

The floor in the gazebo can be made of paving slabs laid directly on the ground, or install decking.

You can decorate the gazebo in several ways:

  • You can plant climbing plants around the perimeter or hang hanging flowering plants in pots.
  • A garland of small light bulbs laid around the perimeter of the roof, a lampshade in the center or lanterns under the ceiling can serve as lighting.
  • You can also decorate a half-open gazebo with bamboo curtains, textiles or curtains.

Scheme

Every summer, leaving the countryside to the country, we strive to spend as much time as possible in the fresh air: cook food on the grill, sunbathe in the sun, organize gatherings with a group of friends. But not always the weather conditions allow you to relax as you would like. A sudden downpour, accompanied by winds, will not allow you to enjoy all the delights of summer, but you can easily solve this problem by simply creating a gazebo on the territory of a private house or cottage. Such a structure, which performs almost all the functions of a recreation area, is always ready to shelter its owners and friends from any bad weather. Of course, today there is an amazing opportunity to purchase ready-made arbors, which are offered in garden centers and hardware stores in disassembled form.

To assemble all the details into a single design, it will take very little time and almost no effort. Included with the product you will see an assembly diagram or step by step instructions. But there is one significant drawback - the high and, as a rule, unjustified cost of finished verandas. In addition, all of them, although they have an attractive appearance, do not have anything special and unique. The real price of materials and time costs is an order of magnitude lower, and a finished building made by yourself will exceed all your expectations. In this article, we will look at the main features and subtleties that will certainly come in handy if you decide to create a gazebo with a pitched roof.

Choose a project

Some time ago, unusual octagonal gazebos were in trend, which impressed with their luxury and chic. But now everything has changed, and rectangular options, which are a more affordable version, are becoming increasingly popular. They are usually attached to the main structure, thereby simplifying the construction process at times. Of course, any newcomer to the construction industry will appreciate the change fashion trends, since a shed rectangular or square gazebo is easier to assemble. In addition, an extension created according to such a project is more spacious and can accommodate several zones at the same time - for cooking on the grill, for relaxing and, for example, washing.

It is worth noting also the following advantages of a rectangular wooden gazebo with pitched roof:

  • Easy assembly. Creating such an arbor, it will only be enough to find the most suitable drawing and, of course, be able to read it. Absolutely any person who has been familiar with the laws of geometry for grades 7-8 since school days can cope with this.
  • Practicality. Shed arbors can be autonomous structures, as well as full-fledged extensions to a house or cottage. Whichever option you choose, the structure will look organic and very attractive. In addition, a gazebo attached to the house protects the buildings from bad weather and strong winds.

  • Profitability. Thanks to this specific form of construction, you do not need much Supplies. That is why, even if your budget is limited, you do not have to give up on your idea. There are many projects on the Internet, using which, the built shed gazebo will have an amazing appearance with minimal investment.
  • Given the ease of assembly and construction works, you will be able to save on labor costs.
  • .Wide scope design. A shed veranda will be an ideal place for a kitchen, dining room, recreation area for children and adults.

Today, there are many thematic sites on the Internet, which from time to time host various projects of gazebos attached to the house, from various materials. If you don’t want to or don’t know how to do it yourself, then use the ready-made and proven ones by other people.

Preparation of building materials

The most common material that is used to create such structures is, of course, wood.

It is known that it is not expensive, safe for human health, aesthetically attractive and can be purchased in almost any region of our state. Such a gazebo made of wood will fit perfectly into any yard. country house or cottages. In order to save as much as possible on construction, we strongly recommend that you, at the stage of choosing a project, start from the selected building material. Usually the average length wooden log is six meters. After studying the drawings in detail, evaluate how much wood you will need to carry out all the construction work. In the event that the dimensions of the building are larger than the figure obtained as a result, you will need to make adjustments to the project, reducing it or purchasing more materials. To create a frame, you will need:

  • Bar (of your preferred breed) 100 * 100 millimeters;
  • Solid board 40 * 150 millimeters;
  • Edged part 40 * 150 millimeters;
  • River 25*25mm;
  • Any roofing material (preferably ondulin);
  • Thin film for waterproofing;
  • Fasteners (nails, dowels, self-tapping screws, corners);
  • Sand-concrete mixture to create the base;
  • Ruberoid.

Advice! If the project plans to create a barbecue or a barbecue in the gazebo, it is strongly recommended to treat all wooden elements with a product that will protect the timber from fire due to constant exposure to high temperatures.

Base for gazebo

If you are interested in how to build a gazebo with your own hands, and whether a foundation is needed for such a structure, then there is no definite answer. It all depends on the features of the selected project. First of all, look at your site and choose the most picturesque place and prepare it for further work. You should clear the surface, remove tree roots if necessary, and replant the plants. It is best if the lower part for the structure is at a slight slope, as it will constantly merge from it rainwater, creating a puddle. After the area is cleared, mark it with a tape measure to select the places for the piles. In order for the gazebo to be stable with your own hands, you need to create at least 6 supports.

After installing them, you can proceed to the direct pouring of the base. To determine the most optimal amount of concrete, take into account the number of pillars, as well as the depth to which they were mounted. It is extremely important during the performance of such work to take into account the frost resistance of the soil in a particular region. After filling the hole with concrete, leave the base to dry for a few days so that it can harden and become strong.

Installation of the structure frame

Before the base has hardened, it is important to have time to mark the location of the frame components. They are sawn and processed using an electric planer. To create the optimal angle of inclination of the roof slope, the external vertical posts must be an order of magnitude higher than the internal ones. Let's say you are going to create a structure with a height of 2.5 meters, then in the center the roof should have a height of approximately 3.2 meters. At the moment when the base is frozen, proceed with the direct assembly.

It is carried out systematically, in several stages:

  • Remove the formwork from the posts and cover them with a waterproofing layer. Create squares of roofing material 30 * 30 centimeters in size and lay them on each of the supports in several balls ( best option- two). In addition, the heads can also be carefully covered with a layer of bitumen.
  • Carry out the installation of the lower strapping of the frame. To do this, it is worth fastening using the “thorn and groove” method and performing a screed with metal brackets.
  • Install the vertical frame partitions so that the roofing part of the gazebo is at an angle. They are exactly the same as the foundation piles should be the same number. Until the moment when you carry out the upper harness, use temporary struts to strengthen the structure. They should be in a clearly vertical position. Remove parts of the frame with strapping. Corners can be used for convenience.
  • Wooden floor boards are installed. Keep in mind that the larger the segment between them, the greater the thickness of the material should be. After setting the lag, proceed to the next step - creating a flooring floor covering. A grooved board is best suited for this, but, alas, its cost is quite high. In order to save money, you can carry out the flooring of the usual edged board(for these purposes it is worth using a planer).
  • Wooden railings are mounted, which are attached to the corners of the vertical racks. In the case when the drawings imply the presence of sheathing of some of the parts of the opening, we proceed to its implementation. Decorative trim with gaps looks very impressive: with its help, you can perform two functions at once - leave room for air to penetrate, and also protect yourself from sunlight even on the hottest day. We can say that this is where the assembly of the frame ends. Let's start building the roof.

Creating a roof for a gazebo

Roofing for the gazebo may consist of one slope. Perhaps this is the most suitable option for such structures, as it is distinguished by the ease of installation of the roof structure, which, despite its availability, has a spectacular and attractive appearance. A pleasant shadow will depart from the roof, and the coating will protect from direct sunlight. To determine the most suitable angle of inclination, we recommend that you use a special calculator for construction calculations.

Such auxiliary tools can be easily found on the web by going to thematic sites and forums. I mount the roof, do it in several stages:

  • First you need to file the rafter legs. It is best to do this with a margin and with the expectation of 2 additional overhangs of approximately 0.4 - 0.5 m each. Special cuts should be attached to each rafter, which should be attached to the top of the base trim. They will serve as a kind of pattern for the rest of the legs. They should be created according to a single scheme.
  • All elements should be connected with nails or metal corners. Considering the angle of inclination, stretch the fishing line and twine.

  • Stretch using waterproofing film and cut into several even strips. When fastening them, do not make a strong stretch, use a construction stapler. It is recommended to make a small overlap of about 10-15 centimeters. The greater the degree of inclination, the more significant the overlap of the film sheets should be.
  • Carry out the installation of roofing sheets, taking into account the advice given by the manufacturer, and also use the fasteners that come with it. In addition, try to observe the distance between the sheets and the need for overlap (at least ten centimeters). Remember that the angle of inclination always determines which of the materials is best for laying on the roof of the gazebo.
  • The last thing to do is to mount special boards that are used to protect against wind at the end of the structure. If necessary, bring east for washing.

Everything is ready. Such a shed gazebo is a real find for owners country houses, as well as dachas. It doesn’t matter at all whether it will be autonomous or attached to the building, the shed gazebo will be stylish and original decor site. She will always show guests that the owner of the house has good taste, and also strive to equip her site with her own hands. In this article, we examined in detail what stages of construction must be completed, as well as what structural features a gazebo has, which involves pitched roof. If you are not sure about the choice of a particular material, be sure to consult with a specialist in the construction industry.

Even the most expensive hoods do not cope with their purpose by 100%. As a result, the surrounding space is still saturated with the smells of food. This problem can be solved by a gazebo attached to the house with a barbecue or barbecue.

Open-type gazebos contribute to a relaxing holiday in the bosom of nature. Here it is especially pleasant to arrange tea parties, celebrate family holidays and learn the basics of science. Fully glazed outbuildings provide better protection from the cold. They let in up to 95% of natural light, due to which it is possible to visually expand the space.

Structures with non-standard forms are preferred by supporters of the loft and hi-tech. They contribute to a clearer delineation of functional areas. Based on the shape and purpose of the seasonal building, you can choose optimal type roofs:

  • a flat roof with a minimum angle of inclination facilitates Finishing work on high;
  • single-sided version minimizes installation costs roofing materials;
  • a gable roof is more suitable for square and rectangular buildings;
  • multilevel roof - the best solution for octagonal arbors equipped with barbecues or electric appliances for cooking.

From this video you will learn how to attach a gazebo terrace to the house with your own hands.

How to build yourself

To begin with, it is important to determine the raw material base. For example, buildings made of wood are better than any metal structures keep warm. But in the absence of regular surface treatment with protective compounds, they quickly become unusable. Brick gazebos attached to the house retain an attractive appearance in any climate. In addition, they provide high-quality thermal insulation of the premises.

Plastic extensions demonstrate good resistance to aggressive environments. However, due to their flammability, barbecues and stoves cannot be used in them.

For self construction you will definitely need shovels, hammers, drills, a building level, tape measure and power tools. If you make a shallow foundation - a concrete mixer, M-400 cement, crushed stone and sand.

When choosing a site for future construction, it is important to take into account the visibility of the most attractive objects and the level of its illumination. It must be flat and dry. The bumpy place will have to be leveled with special equipment, and the roots of the trees uprooted. If ground water lie quite close, you have to find another territory.

A detailed drawing of the gazebo will allow:

  • accurately calculate the required amount of finishing materials;
  • choose the best place for brick oven and barbecue;
  • to avoid extra costs during the construction of walls and the installation of a truss system;
  • attach a gazebo to the main building in the shortest possible time.

The image should detail the location and dimensions of each structural element. This refers to supports, gratings, crossbars, shingles, lower and upper strapping. Separately, you need to make a sectional drawing of the furnace.

Base

Lightweight plastic and metal structures can be installed on a concrete surface. In the case of capital structures made of stone, it will be required monolithic foundation. First you need to mark the base line on the site, dig a trench, tamp a sand cushion at the bottom of the pit, install formwork and make a reinforced frame. At the end of the work, pour concrete and compact the mortar with a vibrating plate. In this case, the air will definitely come out of the mixture, and the base will turn out to be reliable.

In order to avoid cracks in the first days of concrete drying, it should be sprayed cold water. Final solidification is possible only after 10-12 days.

Wall supports

For work, profiled bars with a thickness of 100-125 mm are needed. Unlike conventional lumber, they contain grooves on both sides. The rectangular section increases the contact area of the rims, and the optimal density of the bars contributes to the creation of an inextricable array. Thus, the rigidity of the walls, their resistance to moisture and penetrating winds increases.

The side pole is needed for mounting the rafters. If everything is done correctly, the supports will hold the surfaces for many years. The corner posts adjacent to the wall must be at least 50 cm higher than the others, otherwise the roof will not slope. In this case, there is no need to talk about high-quality drainage.

truss system

To install the most practical and inexpensive do-it-yourself shed roof, you need to perform a number of operations:

  1. Attach the upper Mauerlat to the wall of the building, that is, firmly fix the lower support. To do this, you will need several bars with a section of 50x200 mm and up to ten anchor bolts.
  2. Install the rafters using hot-rolled corners (70x70 mm). Due increased performance rigidity, they withstand maximum load, and their light weight contributes to quick installation.
  3. Lay a wooden crate and about 9 profiled sheets on top of the supporting structure. Self-tapping screws with washers are useful in the work.

When using euroslate on the roof, you will have to install refractory cuts. With their help, you can quickly put out the fire.

In round gazebos in the country, barbecues with chimneys are installed right in the center of the buildings. At the same time, the distance between the kitchen area and the seating area should not be less than 2 m. Portable structures are more suitable for sheds and tents. Stationary with supports for fuel are intended for capital constructions from a stone and a brick.

In a large gazebo with an area of 12 m², it is possible to install a barbecue oven with a hood. If the budget allows, it is better to choose stationary structures, equipped with sinks and countertops.

Of the lighting fixtures you will need LED lamp and bra. To decorate the extension - flowerpots, clay figurines and plastic crafts.

A gazebo with a shed roof will protect the owners of a country house from heat and rain, and will become a cozy place for evening tea or fun gatherings with friends. Let's try to make such a building with our own hands.

Suitable roofing materials

For roofing use various materials. Depending on the choice, the roof is bulk, metal or plastic. A characteristic feature of such a structure is that the coating is mounted immediately on the rafters.

Create cozy atmosphere in your suburban area

The construction of a rectangular roof structure requires consideration of several factors:

  • the dimensions of the structure, on which the choice of material, rafters, fasteners depends;
  • the structure must be placed taking into account the prevailing direction to avoid excessive load on the roof;
  • the angle of inclination of the slopes is determined taking into account the average snow load and the selected type of roof material;
  • the length of the overhangs, correlated with the length of the rafters and battens;
  • ways to drain rainwater.

Roofing materials are chosen taking into account the angle of inclination of the slopes. Such a roof will be reliable and will last a long time. When choosing, we take into account the following points:

  • bituminous coatings are not used at high slope angles;
  • slate can be used from 15 to 40 degrees, as it has great rigidity;
  • it is better to use corrugated board at angles from 10 to 45 degrees, with a smaller slope, more overlap is required;
  • metal tiles are recommended at 8–50 degrees, as they have sufficient rigidity.

Species diversity

The gazebo can be closed, semi-closed and open.

Closed structures are completely protected from adverse natural factors. These gazebos can be used all year round.

Semi-closed partially protect against the penetration of precipitation into the building.

Open structures will be a great place to relax in the summer heat and light rain.

According to the form, buildings are distinguished in the form of:

  • square;
  • rhombus;
  • rectangle.

A simple gazebo attached to the house is an interesting building solution. This building, built in modern style, will help create a great place to relax on the territory of the cottage. For the construction of an extension to the house, less building material and space on the site are required. For small country houses, this is an ideal garden design option.

Design Tips

In order to build robust design taking into account the loads, the influence of environmental factors, it is necessary to calculate the materials for the foundation, base, walls, roof and, if necessary, glazing. It is especially important to calculate the slope of the roof. It happens from 6 to 60 degrees. The more windy in the construction site, the more gently sloping the roof should be designed. At the same time, a large angle of inclination will not allow moisture to linger on the roof plane. An important role in the calculation of the angle is played specifications roofing material.

Consider step by step how to draw up a working draft as correctly as possible:

  1. Choose the type of structure: open, semi-open, closed.
  2. We develop the design details of the gazebo so that the building fits into the overall architectural ensemble.
  3. Selecting a construction site.
  4. In the drawing, we mark the height, length, width of the building, the place of construction of the support posts, the entrance, the height of the fence.
  5. We draw projections of the facade, schemes of technical components of the structure.
  6. We draw up a plan for the construction of the foundation.
  7. We create diagrams of structural units: sizes and location of window openings, entrances.
  8. We carry out drawings of the roof indicating the angles of inclination, roofing material.
  9. For gazebos with a fireplace or barbecue, a brick laying plan with dimensions is required.

Manufacturing technology

When the gazebo project is completed, we prepare the tools:

  • fastening elements;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • machine for grinding timber;
  • level;
  • roulette;
  • saw;
  • hammer.

Fundamental works

For a shed gazebo with flat roof Suitable for any foundation

  • columnar;
  • slab;
  • tape.

First of all, we choose a suitable place on the site. It should be flat and open, ideally elevated to protect the base from moisture. Next is the marking of the territory.

The simplest and most economical option for a gazebo made of wood and metal is a columnar foundation. For its erection in the corners of the future gazebo, we install support pillars, maintaining a distance of 2 m. Next, we fill the bottom with a mixture of sand and gravel. Cut into equal pieces metal pipes so that after digging in they are visible above the surface by about 20 cm. We fix the supports in the holes and align them. We insert a piece of reinforcement inside each pipe so that the length of the column is 11 cm longer. Then concrete mortar is poured into the pipes, and the space between the walls is filled with stones or earth.

Instead of pipes, you can use durable logs, pre-treated with an antiseptic.

Sometimes, instead of pillars, bricks or blocks are used; for this, a mixture of sand and gravel is placed at the bottom of the pit, and a piece of reinforcement is placed in the center.

When the foundation is poured, it is given a few days to dry. In the process of pouring, support pillars are placed at the corners of the gazebo, fastening them with the upper and lower trim of the timber.

During the construction process, the following sequence must be followed:

  1. Cut the bars to the size of the building and grind with a planer.
  2. Cover concrete poles with roofing material. Wrap the top of each support with two layers of waterproofing material.

Take care of the base and location of the gazebo in advance
  1. On the pillars set the lower trim, built of four bars. Wooden structure connected according to the "thorn in the groove" method and fixed with metal corners.
  2. Frame racks are placed on the lower trim. Short elements are located at the back, creating the desired angle of inclination of the roof.
  3. The edges wooden poles they are connected by an upper strapping, fixing the frame elements with metal fasteners. The size of the structure is controlled by the building level.
  4. Thick floor boards are attached to the bottom trim. They must be laid out, observing a distance of 85 cm.
  5. Using metal corners, railings are attached to the racks. Some openings can be sheathed with slats.

truss system

To install the roof on the gazebo frame, perform the following steps:

  1. Rafters are made from boards. The supporting structure of the roof should be half a meter longer.
  2. We put one rafter leg on top of the building to make markings for cutting grooves. They are needed in order to connect the rafters with the bars. Installation of the main structure begins with the fastening of the front and rear rafters. A rope is stretched between these elements, performing the function of a level. Along this line, the remaining rafters are attached to the upper harness.
  3. The roofing material is spread on the rafters with an overlap and connected with a special stapler. The smaller the slope angle, the greater the overlap of the material should be.
  4. A crate is created from unedged boards. Between its parts, gaps of 30-40 cm in size should be left.
  5. The finish coating is mounted with fasteners. Wind boards are attached to the end of the structure.

Arrangement of the finished object

Decorating a gazebo requires creativity and a sense of taste. From the successful design of the building depends on its attractive appearance and how it will fit into the overall architectural ensemble. The structure can be decorated with flowering or climbing plants, trees, shrubs to create shade. Other materials can be used: fabrics, colored glass, ceramics.

The decor can be applied even during the construction of the structure. For example, make the roof of the canopy out of polycarbonate, and in the gazebo itself, close the openings with colored glass, making interesting stained-glass windows. An excellent decoration of the gazebo will be the original curtains, they can be used to protect from the wind.

When arranging a gazebo with your own hands, you need to follow simple rules. Plants around the gazebo should be in harmony with the surrounding landscape and consistent with the overall style of the building. Flowers and plants inside the gazebo should form a single design composition with interior decoration premises.

Decorative lamps can create a special atmosphere in the gazebo and make it safer in the evening.

Implementation options:

  • Spotlights;
  • LED strips are an economical way to effectively highlight individual structural elements in the dark;
  • garlands of light bulbs will create an atmosphere of celebration and extravaganza in the country or in a country house;
  • a large chandelier is ideal for creating a classic or antique style in the gazebo.

Shed roof - the simplest, cheapest and most reliable protection for the gazebo. By choosing high-quality material and approaching the installation with all responsibility, you can get beautiful roof at an acceptable price.

Large shed gazebo

In this article, we will try to build a gazebo with a shed roof on our own, while observing all the requirements of construction and protection.

First of all, we will consider the characteristics of the gazebo and the basics of its construction - the foundation with the strapping, the frame and the top strapping. After that, let's go directly to the roof - the study of the drawings, the construction of the truss system, sheathing, laying waterproofing and roofing.

Lastly, consider the options for buildings with a pitched roof. Probably, you may like one of the proposed ideas, and you will want to use it as the basis for building in your country house.

In the course of this publication, we will consider not only the construction of a shed roof, but also gazebos in general. Therefore, the first step will be to study the characteristics of the future building, and then directly erect the frame with strapping.

Specifications

End result of construction

  • Dimensions: 3 by 3 meters;
  • Foundation: columnar;
  • pillars: timber 100 by 120 mm (rather non-standard solution);
  • : single slope;
  • Rafters and lathing: board 25 by 100 mm (18 pieces);
  • Roof: ondulin.

An interesting solution was to use the same boards for the rafter system for both the rafters and the battens. It turned out to be enough to prepare 18 boards, put them “in a square” on the roof, and the entire top of the gazebo was almost ready.

Foundation and bottom trim

For the construction of a building small size, in this case 3 by 3 meters, classic brick foundation blocks are enough. Finished poles are smeared with bitumen, waterproofing is laid on top - sheets of roofing material.

The lower harness is a 100 by 100 mm beam, which is connected according to the “half-tree” principle. Having laid the strapping around the perimeter, a timber is additionally attached in the center of the future floor to hold the floor boards - the log.

Frame and top rail

To create a frame, a non-standard beam 100 by 120 mm is used. The dimensions of the pillars are not critical, it is quite enough to use the classic dimensions of 100 by 100 mm.

The poles are fastened with the help of metal corners (if they ask in the store, then take at least the seventies). Additionally, you can fasten the pillars with a support - the boards are attached between the bottom harness and the pillar (before that, the ends of the board are cut off at an angle so that they lie flat on a wooden surface).

The top harness does not look quite standard. Usually the upper base is identical to the lower one - a beam lies along the perimeter of the structure. Since the roof is shed, it was decided to lay only parallel bars opposite each other, after which we immediately proceed to attaching the rafters, more on that later.

Roof erection

One of the sides of the gazebo is 20 cm higher than the other. The angle of inclination can be even greater, the above option is one of the most minimal. Nevertheless, this is enough to continue further construction of the roof.

The next step will be the installation of rafters, lay a crate on top of them and cover with a roof on top - in our case, ondulin is used. Before proceeding to the practical part, let's deal with the theory.

Blueprints

Below is a classic example of laying an ondulin roof over a pitched roof. In the case of our gazebo, instead of timber, we use ordinary boards 25 by 100 mm, and waterproofing is simply skipped (although I would recommend that you definitely complete this step).

Installation of a shed roof with ondulin

In addition, I would like to show on the basis of what we use a classic wooden crate without any additional rafter legs, supports and racks. Pay attention to the diagram below.

Since the dimensions of the future gazebo are small (only 3 by 3 meters), then there is no point in additional pores. Only with a roof length of more than 4.5 meters does it make sense to put a bed so that the rafters do not sag under the action of snow or some kind of atmospheric influences.

truss system

On top of the parallel strapping bars, the rafter legs are laid. And this is done with cunning: the boards are laid across, with a side of 25 mm down and up, and 100 mm on the sides. This is done to create additional hardness, since pushing through a classic board is not difficult, and in this case you will have to try.

Fastening is carried out using metal corners, no additional cuts are needed.

The owner of the gazebo noted that he calmly walked on the roof and nothing sagged under the weight of his weight.

rafters

sheathing

On top of the rafters, the same board 25 by 100 mm is laid in the amount of nine pieces. It is laid already with the wide side down, since the roof will be attached to it in the future.

Vapor waterproofing and insulation

If an insulated roof is planned or you want to additionally protect the material and interior from moisture, then you will need to lay additional layers of vapor barrier and insulation.

In this case, the whole technology begins with the laying of a vapor barrier under the rafters. Then it is necessary to lay the insulation in the cells between the rafters. Lay a moisture-proof membrane (waterproofing) on top of the structure, on which the counter-lattice and crate are attached. And only after that the roof is laid.

Insulated roof with insulation

You can skip this step if your gazebo is planned to be open. For such structures, rafters and battens are enough, on top of which the roof is attached.

Roof selection and installation

Let me remind you that the stage with vapor barrier and insulation can be skipped. By the time the roof is laid, your roof should look like two perpendicular rows of rafters and battens.

Thanks to a large selection of roofing materials, you can choose the best option for yourself. Perhaps you have access to some material (for example, corrugated board) that is perfect for such a roof. Therefore, it is impossible to unequivocally determine the necessary roofing - everyone decides at his own discretion.

In this case, the owner preferred ondulin (euro slate). This is a high-quality and reliable material, which is very convenient to lay on a shed roof (pro soft tiles I wouldn't say that.) Therefore, if you have the opportunity to use this material, then feel free to start styling.

Photo options with a pitched roof

Finally, I would like to give a photo of gazebos made according to classical technology with a pitched roof. If you are interested in these structures, then you are probably thinking about building or updating your own building.

Shed roof project

The options below can give you ideas for building, renovating or making design decisions.

attached to the house

An economical solution would be to attach a gazebo to your country house or cottage. This will save on building material and the area of your site - they occupy a common space much less than standing separately.

On my site, I decided to attach a gazebo to the cottage. A bar 100 by 100 was used, classic rafters with a Mauerlat and corrugated roofing.

From ondulin

Relatively new material for the Russian market. It is more expensive than the options described above, but in some situations it may turn out to be more advantageous against the background of metal counterparts. Summer masters very often prefer ondulin, so if you are attracted by this material and the cost is “affordable”, then give preference to it.
